    The contingent of Nigerian internationals in Turkey could soon increase following Trabzonspor’s growing interest in Super Eagles left-back Bruno Onyemaechi.

    According to Turkish transfer expert Ekrem Konur, Trabzonspor are prepared to open discussions with Greek giants Olympiacos to evaluate the conditions surrounding a possible move for the 26-year-old defender.

    Negotiations are expected to intensify after the conclusion of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where Onyemaechi is currently on national duty with Nigeria.

    Onyemaechi has endured a challenging spell at Olympiacos, struggling for consistent playing time since completing a €2.5 million transfer from Portuguese side Boavista during the January 2025 window. A switch to Trabzonspor could offer a fresh start and increased minutes at club level.

    The Turkish outfit already boasts Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu, who is enjoying a prolific campaign and sits as the Super Lig’s second-highest scorer with 11 goals. Turkey is also home to Super Eagles talisman Victor Osimhen, who leads the line for Galatasaray among other players who are also making waves.

    Super Eagles defender Bruno Onyemaechi has revealed how patience and hard lessons from past disappointments have reshaped his mentality and approach to national team duty, as he continues to enjoy a more prominent role at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

    Reflecting on his experience during the last AFCON cycle, the 28-year-old admitted he was eager for opportunities that never came under former coach José Peseiro.

     “You know, when a coach gives you the opportunity, you need to take it. I remember the last AFCON — I was begging for the opportunity but Peseiro did not give me,” Onyemaechi said.

    The left-back explained that those setbacks taught him the value of patience and constant readiness, lessons he now carries into every national team call-up. “So right now, I’ve learned from experience to be ready whenever they call you. That is the most important thing,” he added.

    Onyemaechi concluded by giving thanks for his current run in the team, noting that the experience has strengthened his mind-set.

    “I give God all the glory for this moment,” he said. He has since become a trusted figure in the Super Eagles setup at AFCON 2025, earning regular involvement and increased confidence from the current technical crew.

    Bruno Onyemaechi is thrilled with  the prospect of making his UEFA Champions League debut with Greek club,  Olympiacos.

    Onyemaechi  who joined  Olympiacos from Portuguese outfit, Boavista got the ticket for Europe’s most glamorous  competition after clinching the Greek Super League title.

    It was the club’s first domestic title since the 2021–22 campaign and they added more silverware to their cabinet by winning the Greek Cup, defeating OFI Crete 2–0 to complete their 19th  domestic double and secure a 29th  Cup triumph. The victory marked Onyemaechi’s second trophy with the club in just five months.

    “It’s a very big season cause I’ll be playing in the Champions League for the first time. I’m looking forward to this, I hope I’m prepared for it and I hope I’m injury free also,” the 25-year-old fullback shared his enthusiasm in an interview with TVC News Nigeria.

    Onyemaechi spoke on Nigeria’s crucial upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers, stressing the importance of winning every match to secure a place at the 2026 tournament.

    He said: “Talking about the World Cup, we have very important games that we need to win. We know it’s difficult but we are professionals, we need to do our job.

    “ We know the pressure is there, we need to forget about that and try to win these two games and qualify for the World Cup.

     “Nigeria is a big nation, it’s a big shame if we don’t qualify for the World Cup so we will do our best to get the ticket.”

    Onyemaechi further threw his weight behind  Super Eagles’ head coach Eric Chelle, describing him as the right person to lead the team.

    “ In the two months I’ve worked with him, I can say he’s the right guy for the job. There’s noise outside saying he doesn’t know what he’s doing, but if you come closer, you’ll know he’s the right guy for the job.”

    Super Eagles defender and newly signed Olympiacos of Greece player, Bruno Onyemaechi, says he is eager to kick start his career in Greece and can’t wait enough for his debut for Greek club.

    The talented left-back made the move from Portuguese side Boavista to Olympiacos for a reported €2.5 million on Monday.

    Onyemaechi shared his enthusiasm for the move, expressing his eagerness to engage with the club’s supporters.

    “I’m happy to be here. When I first heard about the offer, I spoke with my family, and they were fully supportive,” Onyemaechi told the club’s media.

    “I’m excited to meet the fans at the stadium and can’t wait to get started.”

    Known for his creativity and speed, the Nigerian international highlighted his strengths on the field.
