    Individual’s choices shape Nigeria’s future – Brymo

Singer Brymo has described Nigeria as a geographical space lacking a defined sociable identity, arguing that its foundation was laid by the British, who arbitrarily named its people “Nigerians.”

According to him, the country’s future rests on the individual choices of its citizens, stressing that personal responsibility is crucial to nation-building.

Brymo further noted that Nigeria may never naturally develop a strong drive for self-improvement, insisting that progress will depend on deliberate decisions by individuals to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s growth and development.

‎”Nigeria is clearly a geographical space with no sociable personality of ‘her own’, and the people (by the happenstance of the British who named us) are called Nigerians, and I am publishing this to remind us all that the country may ever have no conscious reason to help self, and that the quality of the choices we settle for Individually culminate in the outcome we all live in the aftermath”, he wrote on Instagram.

Remixes by A-list artists a quest for relevance – Brymo

Singer Brymo has publicly criticised A-list artists Burna Boy, Davido, and others for remixing hit songs by rising acts.

According to Brymo, these artists are using remixes as a way to leverage the buzz and stay relevant, rather than genuinely helping emerging artists gain exposure.

In a statement on his Instagram story, Brymo urged A-list artists to stop jumping on every trending song, especially those by newer acts.

He stated that this practice is not only unnecessary but also detrimental to the growth of emerging artists, preventing them from finding their own unique voice and style.

Brymo describes the practice as “vile,” adding that it’s driven by self-interest rather than a genuine desire to support new talent.

This criticism comes amid a backdrop of tension between Brymo and some of Nigeria’s biggest music stars, including Burna Boy and Davido, with whom he has had past disagreements over issues like song ownership and industry dynamics.

Brymo wrote: “Dear Nigerian mainstream ‘A-listers,’ Burna [Boy], Davido and Co, stop jumping on every hit song in a remix, especially releases by newer acts.

“Let other artistes find their own way. The pretending to be helping them reach higher is a ridiculous watch. Stop seeking relevance in the efforts of ones who know little about the business. It’s vile!”

Bride price is transfer of ownership, says Brymo

Singer, Brymo, has criticised the tradition of paying the bride price, arguing that it perpetuates outdated views of women as commodities rather than individuals with autonomy.

In an Instagram post on Friday, Brymo shared his perspective on the practice, citing a movie scene where a character stated: “A woman that can be bought is not worth having.”

“I saw in a movie scene the other day where a man told a female love interest that a woman that can be bought is not worth having’ and it all made sense to me without a doubt left in my mind and that the practice of paying bride-price depicts the transfer of ownership of the bride”, he said.

He said that paying the bride price symbolises the transfer of ownership over women.

Brymo further emphasised the complications the tradition creates for both parties involved, noting that the bride may still assert her independence despite being “paid for.”

He also highlighted the problematic implications of ownership and control inherent in the practice.

“And I may participate especially because the other who was paid for may ever still choose to be as they want to afterward… and posing ownership problems for the procurer…and a man expresses full ownership on things he pays for…yet a woman ain’t a thing to own or one to dictate for,” he added.
