2027: Baba-Ahmed, Buba Galadima can’t stop Tinubu, says Illiyasu Kwankwaso

Executive Director of Finance, the Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority (HJRBDA), Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso, on Tuesday said that Hakeem Baba-Ahmed and Buba Galadima lack capacity to stop President Bola Tinubu’s reelection in 2027.

Baba-Ahmed, a member of the Arewa Consultative Forum and a former Political Adviser to Vice President Kashim Shettima, and Engr. Buba Galadima, a member of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), have been criticising Tinubu’s policies of recent.

In his reaction to the criticisms, Kwankwaso said the two men do not have the moral rectitude to discredit the Tinubu administration, urging Nigerians not to take them serious.

“Hakeem Baba-Ahmed recently accepted appointment in the government of Tinubu thinking it was business as usual, where political appointees had field days in office.

“When he saw it was a different government, he realiased he wasn’t fit there; he ran away. Today Hakeem Baba-Ahmed cannot tell why he accepted the job and why he resigned.

“Now he finds comfort in instigating people against the same government he once served. He should come out clean and tell Northerners the truth about his actions.

Baba-Ahmed, in a viral video, had warned that any attempt by the government in power to manipulate the 2027 general elections will be resisted.

He also said the country will suffer consequences if the 2027 poll results are tampered with.

However, Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso on Tuesday accused Baba-Ahmed of being among those who allegedly cheated the North.

He said the duo had enjoyed long service in government but have nothing to show as part of their contributions to the northern region.

Kwankwaso said Buba Galadima can not boast of winning a poling unit y

“All his years with General Buhari what did he contribute to the ex-president? instead, Buhari was able to win his elections when the likes of Galadima departed him.

“But Bola Tinubu on the other hand, in less than two years of his government, has brought serious developments to the North; look at the Kano to Abuja road; look at Badagary to Kebbi Road network. These are jobs that have since gone far and nearing completion.

“There is no gainsaying that the prices of food and other essential commodities are going down and Nigerians are having the affordability to buy, but Buba Galadima and Hakeem Baba-Ahmed who are blind critics will not comment on these.

“Let me assure Baba-Ahmed and Buba Galadima that Tinubu will win his second term in office with the North inclusive, because Nigerians are appreciative of the president’s transformative agenda,” Kwankwaso said.

  • Galadima’s queer theory

    Galadima’s queer theory

Buba Galadima, northern elder and controversial critic, has woven a rather quaint — if not queer — deflation theory: falling food prices are a conspiracy against the North!

In his preening (il)logic, northern farmers had all fled their farms because of sundry insecurity.  If farmers are in ‘exile’, so to say from farms, how come the more food stuffs that have sent food inflation on a steady but progressive southward spiral?

Galadima answered own question.  Hear from the horse’s mouth: “The government has started massive food importation … “

True.  The Federal Government indeed announced temporary food imports, to make for shortfalls, pending the time own huge farming intervention to tackle food inflation matured.  But Hardball wonders if that importation would pass for “massive”.  That’s a Galadima hyperbole, for whatever motives.

But Galadima’s accompanying conspiracy theory is definitely false, which further shed light on his “massive” hyperbole.

Again, hear direct from the horse’s mouth:  “… this will make the economy of the North, which depends on agriculture, to dwindle as many won’t be able to farm again to gain any meaningful profit.”  Haba, Alhaji!  For real? Are you griping because food is getting cheaper?  Must everything be politics?

That the medium on which Galadima spoke was Hausa, speaks volumes of what appears his sinister motive.  It sounded too close to conspiratorial grandstanding over the air waves to discredit the sitting government, to which Galadima is not exactly a friend.

But that’s alright.  If the Tinubu government has supporters, it must not gripe over opposers.  Supporters and opposers are integral parts of democracy.  Supporters eulogizing a government is no more an offence than bad-mouthing it by opponents.

Still, the Galadima take is queer because of its ringing illogic, which again should sound strange, even to the northern masses, whose mind Galadima was clearly trying to poison.

Pray, who does falling food prices hurt?  The northern “Talakawas” that need cheap food to make life more livable?  Or the rich that would spend even less on food, while sinking their excess money into more earthly comfort?  Who?

It’s that welcome juncture, where reasonable people think the inflationary crisis might just be coming to an end — good news.  Yet, that’s what seem to incense Galadima, as he weighed in with his toxic politics.

Galadima has a right to play whatever politics he likes, no matter how senseless.  Still, his illogical take — ease on food prices as anti-northern conspiracy — is likely to make him the butt of jokes, even among the northern masses he is trying to hoodwink.

Such silly politicking would bury, with contempt, Galadima and his views.  But his choice!

  • Kaduna PDP campaign media director’s bail suffers setback

A federal High Court sitting in Kaduna has given a transfer order on the case between the Department of State Security (DSS) and the director general Media and Publicity of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Campaign Council in Kaduna State, Mr. Ben Bako.

Bako was arrested by operatives of the DSS in Kaduna for allegedly inciting the public at a rally in Kafanchan, Kaduna State and has been in detention in one of the organisation’s facilities in Abuja since then.

The accused, who was represented by Barrister Baba Lawal Aliyu and former Attorney General of Kaduna State, Barrister Mark Jacob, applied on behalf of their client to be released on bail for the enforcement of his fundamental human right pending when hearing on the matter would commence.

The counsel sought an order enforcing the applicants fundamental Human Rights as guaranteed by section 34,35 andb36 of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), Order 2 of the Fundamental Rights(enforcement procedure)rules 2009, Article 3,4,5 and 6 African Charter on human and peoples Rights for same being breached by the Respondents.

It also sought an Order releasing the Applicant on bail pending his arraignment before a court of competent jurisdiction and such further order as may be deemed fit to make by the court.

As the arguments on the bail application commenced, counsel to the DSS opposed the bail application saying his reply is supported by a sworn affidavit, which highlighted the offense allegedly committed by the applicant bordering on national security and added Bako is being detained in order to avert a breakdown of law and order.

The DSS also made it clear that it had filed an exparte application on the matter at another federal High Court in Abuja.

The Presiding Judge, Justice Peter Manloung, observed that since the matter is before a court of competent jurisdiction in Abuja, he may not want to continue with it, saying all he could do is to transfer the bail application to Abuja for reassignment by the Chief justice of Nigeria, CJN.

Counsel to Bako then pleaded that since the Judge became aware of the ex-parte application in Abuja, the transfer order should go with an order direction the DSS to allow the counsels access to their client, who is with the DSS.

But the judge, who said the best he could do in the circumstance was to only grant the transfer order, said every other applications could be directed accordingly.

  • I won’t regret opposing Buhari – Galadima

Buba Galadima, one of President Muhammadu Buhari’s closest associates recently embarked on a campaign against his former party the All Progressive Congress (APC) and the re-election bid of the President. In this interview, he opened his heart and home to Seun Akioye who tries to unlock the man Galadima.

It was time for the Zuhr prayers and Buba Galadima quickly performed his ablution and joined other worshippers who had gathered at the praying ground, under mango tree. The tree, provided a shed for about 15 worshippers who had chosen that spot as a permanent place of worship.

The prayers over, Galadima set about his other duties which included attending to a myriad of visitors who had come to seek his counsel. Following this, he retired inside, went into the building and was not heard of for many hours.

The house where this meeting was held stands on the upscale Bangui Street, in an equally upscale Wuse 2 area of the Federal Capital with its exotic restaurants catering to both the local and international pallets. From the exteriors, one had the feeling it would be one of those old, yet fashionable houses usually associated with the area and inhabited by the Capital’s rich and connected. But as the gate pulled apart, it revealed nothing of the sort but a two-bedroom apartment, built in the olden fashion, with a large space in the front.

There was nothing to suggest this house belongs to Buba Galadima, a politician of repute who had served Nigeria at different capacities for many years. Though a couple of cars were parked in the vast compound, only a Kia Jeep belongs to the man and according to his staff, the car itself was a wedding gift for his son.

The house where Galadima lives is small, but from the outside, one could see it is tolerably clean and furnished spartanly. A huge mango tree stands in the right corner of the vast compound, it provided a shade from the sun and a barrier against the wind for the throng of visitors who have made the house something like a permanent home.

    A man of the people

Galadima operates an open door policy in his house where the distressed, frustrated and people looking for hope flock to everyday. His house is open to everyone and his heart too. Among the throng of people who have made the house, a second home are his long term associates and political mentees. Many have come as far as Suleja to meet up, review the political landscape and renew hope.

Galadima’s personal assistant, Michael Olayanju, is a young man who preciously followed in the food business before he crossed paths with the politician five years ago. He has since grown to be one of the closest to him.

“ I can describe Baba as a comrade who speaks his mind. He is a very simple but highly principled person and he has that ability that ability to blend with people from different tribes outside of his own. From Edo to Rivers, he knows someone in every local government,” Olayanju said.

He described Galadima as a man of the people, a principled and “brutally honest” politician which is why he is having problems with many people today. Olayanju and a coterie of aides have had their own fair share of Galadima’s “honest brutality” which has seen him reportedly turned down millions of dollars.

“I know what I am saying,” Olayanju said trying desperately to make you believe his side of the story. Soon Sebastine James came in, he has been an associate and family friend of Galadima for over 15 years and has seen the politician in all his state. Olayanju continued: “ Baba has had many opportunities to profit from previous administrations but he rejected them all. We are here and we saw everything that happened. He said he would rather go and sell oranges in Wuse market and that people will buy it knowing he is the one selling.”

Sebastine is a veteran of Galadima’s politics. He is one of the many foot soldiers and strategies who worked assiduously for the President in his three unsuccessful bid to lead the nation. Today, Sebastine seemed broken and sad. But his bitterness may not be in what he did not benefit personally but in what he called he betrayal of the mandate.

“When Baba ( Galadima) works with you, he does it to the end. That was why we worked for the President, we worked really hard because we believe when he comes in, things would change in the country generally. I am disappointed, look at the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) manifesto, we worked hard so he can rescue this country. No Buhari supporter who worked through the different times with him will be happy with what is happening now,” he said.

Sebastine believes Galadima’s mission is for a better Nigeria and if the opposition wins the general election and fails, the party would be voted out until a good replacement is found. “ Jonathan failed, Buhari failed, if Atiku wins and fails, Nigerians will vote him out. Nigeria is no longer like that of the olden days, people are wiser now.”

From the throng of close associates who daily besieged the Galadima modest accommodation, his pan Nigerian outlook is clear. There were several languages spoken in the house at any given time with many tribes represented. It is hard to differentiate between his biological children and adopted ones. “We sleep in the same house, eat and do a lot together, there is hardly any difference among us,” Olayanju volunteered.

Why I am against President Buhari

It was time for the Magrib prayers and Galadima performed his ablution quickly, almost in haste. He joined others under the tree for the prayers which was already underway. Prayers over, he joined a mass of guests, hangers-on and political associate under the tree in his vast compound with a newspaper in hand.

The talk revolved around the elections, predictions and permutations but Galadima, engrossed in his newspaper, paid no heed. “We have Kano already, Kwankwanso is rooting them everywhere in Kano” someone said. Galadima looked up, displaying a face devoid of any expression so that it was hard to know if he agreed with the statement or not.

For a man who has been a long term friend and political associate of President Muhammadu Buhari who suddenly turned foe, fighting his old friend publicly must be tiring.

“ Nigerians should be in a position where they can hire and fire any public officer who has not done well, that is what I am trying to build. That is where I am getting the Nigerian people to, that is what I am trying to build,” he said underlining the philosophy behind his antagonism to the President.

Unknown to many, Galadima’s problem with the President did not start yesterday. It began in 2014 when according to him the President called a press conference to denounce him. “He called a press conference and addressed the press in 2014. We didn’t have any disagreement, but some people gave him conditions that that he had to denounce us for them to support him.

“That tells you the kind of person he is. I still supported my party in the 2015 election, it has reached the point of no return, I was a signatory to the formation of the party. At that time, I wanted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) administration out, so we had to work to achieve that,” he said.

But if you think Galadima has one trace of regrets for helping to bring the All Progressive Congress (APC) to power, he was adamant there is nothing to regret. “ I did not regret doing that and I am not regretting wanting to throw Buhari out because I am trying to build the people’s power.”

The supporters of the ruling party have accused him of corruption, described him as frustrated and angry after he failed to secure lucrative contracts and ministerial appointment because President Buhari would not do business as usual. Galadima and his associates laughed at the accusations.

“They are in power isn’t it and they can arrest you and try you,” he began, putting the newspaper aside. He waited for some seconds as if he wanted the import of his message to sink in and then said in a frank voice. “So why did they leave a corrupt man like me to be walking on the streets, then they don’t know their job and they say the man is integrity and fighting corruption and there is a corrupt man he knows, abusing him, they can’t lock him up?” Many people nodded in agreement, but Galadima was not done.

“Do they have any evidence that I was running after contracts? Did I work for Buhari from 2002 to 2015 to deserve an appointment? If I don’t, then who deserve the appointment, those he appointed what is their record of sacrifice for him to deserve that appointment, do I look like an intelligent man that could be minister? If I am not, what was the yardstick he used in appointing those he did, is it their intelligence or input into the campaign?”

Then he stopped. He looked as if he was thinking about his next statement which might prove earthshattering, then deciding against that, he said, rather calmly: “ The other side of it is that I was offered ministerial appointments severally when I was with President Buhari. Obasanjo, Yar’adua and Jonathan government all offered me several appointments but I refused because I had a project, that was Buhari. For 15 years.

“ The offers included Minister for Abuja, not once, so what is the issue, if it is minister that I want, I can get, long time ago. People ran away from us, went and got minister, appointments, and contracts and after making their money, they came back. I want to ask him through you, how much was he paying me for the services? He should tell the world now. I want to say finally, that has anybody suffered deprivation, humiliation like me?

“I was arrested , detained, questioned 38 times, not only that, I was framed up and tried for treason, they appointed 12 Generals ( from Brigadier upwards)to try me, I was chained legs and hands and put like this inside four floors below ground level, I wouldn’t know night or day.

“So all these doesn’t mean anything to Buhari and now you are supporting Buhari and want to vote for him. Could you have suffered that deprivation and humiliation and when he becomes President, would you clap for him?

Bu this time, the atmosphere had worn a somber look and except for the noise of the wind and the hooting from the cars, one could almost hear each other’s breathe. Galadima probably took the silence as a sign his message was sinking into his audience and he used the opportunity to further drive home his point.

“You were garnering 12 million votes for him and he sits in the house, people bring him cars, go to his farm in Daura how many jeeps will you find, those that they accuse as thieves brought it and money. Have you heard that Dasuki gave him money and jeep?”

That was a former Head of State according to reports.

“Not as a former Head of State, it was not Dasuki’s responsibility to provide cars for former Heads of State, it is the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. So because Buhari is the President, everybody should be a liar, me I have betrayed Buhari, is one of the things they say. What I pray for you young men is that you should make my kind of sacrifice and at the end you should be paid the way I was paid by Buhari.”

This last sentence woke up the subdued audience and a loud disagreement ensured. Galadima smiled, but it was short-lived. He looked at the young people in the audience and said, “ I see people jumping up and down, shouting Sai Buhari, Sai Baba and because they are young men, they have no experience in life, they didn’t even pause to say, how about those jumping for him before, how did he reward them?”

“The President has promised to reward those who work now,” someone said. It was not immediately clear if it was meant to be sarcastic or genuine. But Galadima took it serious when he replied, “Why didn’t he pay those who worked before, pension and gratuity?” He asked no one in particular, a few of the people looked away while a man opened his two palms and showed it to the sky.

“Which means he himself admitted he didn’t do well, he didn’t act as God would have wanted him to act, that is the admission. Why should you waste your votes going to appoint somebody that doesn’t even know what is happening around him and he said with his mouth that he is caged. Buhari that said integrity, you don’t know that he cried in 2011, that he will never contest election, but he did, where is the integrity?”

I am still Buhari’s best friend

Almost without ceasing, Galadima has made a career in criticizing the President and trying to pick a hole in his integrity mantra. Recently, he announced on a national television that members of the President’s inner circle who prior to Buhari’s presidency were poor have suddenly become multi billionaires. However, the talk seemed consigned for the realm of mere allegation.

“ So all these are allegations, I expect direct interaction, me and you agreed to speak direct,” Galadima blurted, a slight offence was visible in his voice.

    You mentioned Daura GRA?

“Have they denied? People went and used the drone to take pictures, so pictures lie? That is why you people in Buhari’s government, you are worshipping Ganduje (Kano state Governor) you say he has integrity. Even what we saw with our own eyes, you are denying so how can I convince you? And his friends are Ganduje and Adams Oshiomole. Why don’t you go and ask Asiwaju Bola Tinubu about me whether I am an honest man or bad person, he knows me sufficiently in political circles. I am not a stranger, from 1978 to date. So me, corrupt person, with all the positions I held, I stay in two bedroom house. About 40 of us sleep in this house.”

In politics, 24 hours is a long time according to popular saying, one is tempted to know if there is any chance of a possible reconciliation between these erstwhile friends, comrades and soul mates turn foe. Galadima shrugged his shoulders and picked up the newspaper he dropped earlier.

“You should ask him that question because he was the one that said he doesn’t want me, he doesn’t like me or my vote or that of anyone close to me. I am still his best friend in the whole country.” A murmur of disapproval mixed with disappointment greeted this astonishing revelation from everyone. But the old horse was undaunted.

“The man that looks into your eyeballs and tells you the truth is your best friend, so says our culture and tradition.

So who tells him what I say? I am his best friend according to tradition and culture. I told him that his friends are stealing, I was the first to say that on television and the next day some people went and brought how his own people are buying keystone bank and 9 mobile. And he is now keeping quiet and he is Mr. Integrity fighting corruption.”

It was time for the Isha prayer. Galadima and a few others began the process of ablution in preparation for the prayers which would again take place under the mango tree. There were animated discussions about politics and some of the revelations from Galadima. Because the principal has declared for the People’s Democratic Party candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, his associates also shifted their support to him. But the question of corruption and Atiku’s inability to travel to the United States was not too far from the talks.

“Let me tell you something, have they said what Atiku’s offence was?” Galadima asked in between ablution in a somewhat conspiratory tone. “They have only that he would not enter the US, they are government now, they should tell us why he cannot enter the US. I don’t want to volunteer an information for you. Can Atiku be held responsible for the offence of his wife or child? Everybody should carry his cross, that’s what the Bible says – maybe you are not a Christian- so why are you people not telling the truth?

So why should Nigerians dump President Buhari for Atiku Abubakar?

“No, I didn’t say dump Buhari, I am a democrat, I believe solidly within me that you have got the rights to make your own decisions and take your destiny in your own hands,” he said, almost in a shout as he began to walk towards the gate to the mango tree where the voice of the Muezzin was already audible.

“If you believe that Buhari is good and he can take you to the next level as he says, vote for him. I am not satisfied with what he is doing that is why I said he should be voted out, but you, don’t worry go and vote for him but when the day of reckoning comes, you should be able to remember that one Buba Galadima (whether alive or dead) said so. That is all I need from you.”

The day is never complete without the usual community dinner in Galadima’s compound. According to Olayanju, in order to accommodate as many people as possible at his table, Galadima would skip lunch and had a buffet for dinner. “ He serves everyone, no matter how many they are and he eats last. There is only one rule, that you must finish your potion otherwise, he would pack the rest and put in your pocket,” he said.

After prayers, Galadima resumed the interview. There has been so much talk about threats to his life and seeing he lives almost without security was a major concern to his associates. But Galadima shrug it off. “ Yes, I know I have to be careful and even people all over the world are telling me to get extra security. But see here, everybody walks in and out of this house, As a Muslim, I have one belief it is only the coward that dies many times. I have experience, I have lost children above 30, man and woman. So why should I lose children at that age and me that is now nearing 70 think I should live forever. In my tradition and community, there is a certain age that you will reach that you will not fear anything and speak the truth. I have reached that age. Those who want to kill me, tell them that when they kill me, let them not die.”

A call was made that dinner was ready. As people trooped into the compound, it was obvious they had come only for the meal which was a simple tuwo shinkafa and Kuka soup on the one side and jollof rice diced with some meat on the other. Though there were chairs which could sit about 10 people, Galadima chose to sit on the mat as he served everyone after which he served himself Tuwo.

At Galadima’s table, Nigeria could be said to have been represented. So what informs this pan Nigeria outlook? “The truth of the matter is that I married from all the regions of the country and from all the religions, that would have informed my disposition. We are seated here now, there is no single person even from my zone, that tells you who I am,” he revealed.

As dinner wore on and more visitors arrived, Galadima maintained a stoic look, like a man deep in thought. He looked a man, deeply bruised who had spent his life believing in a thing only to realize at the twilight of his days that all had been but a phantom. But according to him, whatever his new venture turns out to be, there would be only two word on his lips: No Regrets.

  • To unseat Buhari not an easy task, says Galadima

    …As coalition inaugurates steering committee

The chairman of the reformed- All Progressives Congress (R-APC), Alhaji Buba Galadima has warned that the task of unseating President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 would not be an easy task.

Galadima spoke in Abuja on Thursday during the unveiling of the secretariat of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) and the inauguration of the steering committee for the coalition.

Addressing a coalition of the 39 parties, Galadima urged the group to brace up for tough times ahead, saying that taking over power from a retired army general isn’t not a small task.

The rAPC chairman told the coalition group, being led by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to be prepared for harassment, intimidation and name calling as well as several other divisive tendencies.

Galadima said, “Trying to take over power from a retired military general is not a small task. It is a herculean task. But we will try. Over 200 million Nigerians out there are waiting for us. The masses of this country have since shifted their support from the ruling All Progress Congress (APC)

“They will attempt to intimidate, harass as well as bribe and divide us. They have called our people all sorts of names. They will still call several people more names.

“But we are not afraid of being arrested, intimidated or harassed by the EFCC and the ICPC. General Buhari will not be the president to be sworn in come May 29th, 2019”.

He charged those currently sitting on the fence to quickly join the coalition and urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a free, fair, credible and transparent election in 2019.

According to him, Nigerians will not accept the repeat of what happened during the Ekiti State governorship election, which he said was rigged by the APC.

Also speaking at the event, the national chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, decried what he described as the harassment of the leadership of the Senate.

Secondus said it was time for the coalition to rescue Nigeria from the “misgovernance”, which h said is typified by senseless killing of innocent Nigerians and harassment of opposition elements.

This National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Chief Olu Falae advised the coalition members to be wary of those who might want to do everything possible to split their ranks.

“We must be wary of those who will come to scatter us by trying to sow seeds of discord, spread fake news and adopt divisible measures to achieve their sinister motive”, Falae added.

He enjoined members to always cross check any information they get before believing or acting on it, saying such information  might be fake, as the stakes are very high.

A former Foreign Affairs Minister, Chief Tom Ikimi, who also spoke at the event, said the coalition was borne out of the peculiar circumstances the nation finds itself at this time

Ikimi said, “The coalition is in the quest for a return to a virile and durable democratic process that will assure respect for civil liberties and human rights and to maintain a culture of sustained adherence to the rule of law.

“I confirm that there has not been a single crack in the alliance since its formation, despite unsavory attempts by our main opponents, who have deliberately or mischievously attempted to initiate or present nonexistent cracks in the alliance to the public.

“We have never claimed that all the 68 registered political parties in the country are members of the alliance. There are 39 parties who indicated interest in the alliance and 35 of them were available to endorse the document on the Inauguration.

“Since then the Democratic People’s Party (DPP) has joined the alliance and has also signed the document. None of the parties that signed the MOU has departed from the grand alliance”.

Besides the PDP, other parties in the coalition include the Action Alliance (AA); Alliance for Democracy (AD); Africa Democratic Party (ADC); Action Democratic Party (ADP); All Grand Alliance Party (AGAP); Action People’s Party (APP); Advanced Congress of Democrats (ACD); and Better Nigeria Progressive Party (BNPP).

Others are the Democratic Alternative (DA); Democratic People’s Party (DPC); Grand Democratic Party of Nigeria (GDPN); Green Party of Nigeria (GPN); KOWA Party; Labour Party (LP); Mass Action Joint Alliance (MAJA); and Masses Movement of Nigeria (MMN).

Also in the group are the National Conscience Party (NCP); New Generation Party (NGP); National Unity Party (NUP); Nigeria Intervention Movement (NIM); People’s Alliance for National Development and Liberty (PANDEL); Peoples Progressive Party (PPP); People for Democratic Change (PDC); Providence People’s Congress (PPC); and the Reformed All Progressive Congress (RAPC).

Others are the Restoration Party of Nigeria (RPN); Social Democratic Party (SDP); Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN); All Grassroots Alliance (AGA); National Interest Party (NIP); Nigeria Democratic Congress Party (NDCP); Progressive People’s Alliance (PPA); and Young Democratic Party (YDP) among others.

  • Defection of APC NASS members unhealthy for stable politics – Sen. Kaka

… Stressing, ‘defection was their game plan from beginning’

Senator Gbenga Kaka on Tuesday bemoaned the defection of some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the National Assembly (NA) to the opposition political parties – the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and African Democratic Congress (ADC), saying it would not augur well for the “stability” of the  nation’s politics.

Kaka who represented Ogun East at the Senate from 2011 – 2015, however added that the defection of the APC lawmakers during plenaries at the chambers of the Upper and Lower arms of the National Assembly on Tuesday, was not a thing of surprise.

Speaking with reporters at the main campus of the Olabisi Obabanjo University (OOU), Ago – Iwoye, Ogun State, about the development, the Senator said a good number of party members knew that defecting to PDP was the game plan with the formation of Engr. Buba Galadima – led Reformed – APC.

He also expressed worry that the action of the lawmakers could erode the power of political parties to achieve supremacy over members or enforce discipline on them.

He, however, admitted that what the defectors had done was covered by the law of the land, especially if there is an alleged division within one’s political party.

The former Deputy Governor of Ogun State added that the party can approach the law court and ask it to declare as illegal, the Reformed – APC which the defectors relied on to move to other political parties.

He hailed the new leadership of APC, Adams Oshiomole, for being “resolute” and working to set the pace for “party supremacy” over members, be it the executive or the lawnakers unlike his predecessor, Dr. John Odigie – Oyegun, whom he said adopted “laissez faire” approach during his tenure.

According to him, once general elections are conducted and winners emerged on the platform of a political party, elected and appointed office holders must “obey and surrender to the supremacy of such party” that shut them into power.

He urged the executive and the two arms of National Assembly to seek avenues to work together, pursue unity and justice in the interest of peace and stability of the country’s politics.

  • APC support groups allege blackmail against Buhari

A coalition of All Peoples Congress (APC) support group has said that a few individuals were capitalizing on some avoidable situations in the country to sow seeds of discord among the people and blackmail the President to lose the 2019 general elections.

Addressing a news conference in Abuja at the weekend, Chairman of the group, Ambassador Lawal Mohammad Manir said some religious leaders and groups were spreading fake information about the President and the APC with the sole purpose of provoking a system crisis within the polity that would lead to the factionalisation and eventual defeat of the party like they did to the defunct CPC.

The coalition expressed surprise that Buba Galadima could be talking about internal party democracy which he failed to exhibit when he held sway as the National Secretary of the Congress for Progressives Change, leading to the woeful performance of the party.

Manir said “it has become pertinent for us to state that we are now witnessing misguided efforts by some religious groups, leaders and persons of vested interest taking advantage of avoidable situation in our nation to sow  discord between people.

“These groups and individuals using different communication platforms continue to spread fake information about Mr. President and our party. The sole purpose of these detractors is to provoke a systematic crisis within the polity and our party that would lead to factionalisation and its eventual defeat like they did the previous CPC.

“Our members are concerned that the coming campaign season is coming up with all manners of malicious campaign of calumny especially against Mr President and shamelessly and irresponsibly even against the new national leadership of the party.

“The country’s kleptomaniacs, the supposed owners of the country and manipulators (anti common man), the shameless hypocrites and political misfits are gradually coming to unfold themselves as one big re-energized axis of evil aiming as usual to cause more damage than good to our party and by extension the collective interest of majority of the Nigerian people.”

Ambassador Munir said “During his leadership as practically self-imposed National secretary of the CPC, within the confines, of most northern States, it was very easy for him to play small-ball politics.

“That time, between the partisan dead-lock and the entire news circle, his contrive talking points was basically on the sensational over the substantive; issues of corruption and poverty, hopelessness and lawlessness were problems to be managed, not crises to be solved.

“They became fodder for newspapers and television shows, not issues to find genuine consensus and compromise. He single handedly forced everyone at some point in CPC to stop reaching for the possible and resigned to that which was most probable.

“Some of our members coming from the previous CPC saw these as a perfectly conceived plan in the process of execution and wrote several letters of protest, which were not acted upon, because Buba was then, the National Chairman, National secretary, Organising secretary as well as the unofficial publicity secretary of the CPC.

“Buba Galadima would rather force his candidates down the throat of members than allow internal democracy take its cause; as was the case in Bauchi, Bomo, Kano, Katsina, Kaduna and several other states. He almost succeeded in tarnishing the image of Buhari and of course he contributed 98 percent to the failure of CPC in the governorship election of all the northern States.

“Buba Galadima was simply the manifestation of evil, anarchy and impunity in the Democratic process of the previous CPC one that succeeded in doing more evil and damage on an unimaginably larger scale than theAentire corrupt INEC officials put together.

“He controlled the soul of CPC with an impunity that promotes only that which is suffocating to public good and decency. The result of which led to what happened in Bauchi, Borne, Gombe, Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, and several other CPC hopeful States.

“Even after several appeals from genuine well-wishers, Buba refused to listen. The only unique thing to his administration was inability or deliberate refusal to arrange an order of priorities that promised solutions that were decent and just. Solutions to those problems urgent as they were would have been constructive and rational.

“CPC would have been the party of an open, honest system that doesn’t peddle the agenda of whichever loyalist or special interest can write the biggest cheque. So the exit of such a boastful loudmouth, with no clout to winning an election even in his native home of Gashua is indeed a good riddance to pest infested rubbish.”

The group appealed to members of Reformed APC to give the new national leadership of the party a chance to try and right the wrongs, saying “after all, disagreements were not unexpected, they have become a part of the universally accepted Democratic process as such.”

“It is not only in our party but, anywhere two or more group of people with a diametrically opposed ideologies co-exist in a community.

“However, it is not the disagreements that should worry us for now but, the measure with which to resolve them. In our considered opinion it is too early to pre-empt the capability or otherwise of the new leadership of the party to resolve issues.”

Named as defendants are the members of the National executives led by Adams Oshiomhole, members of NWC, the chairmen of each of 36 states executive council, INEC and APC.

In their statement of claim, the plaintiffs claimed that the APC is harbouring intractable divisions and the party is awaiting a massive implosion and might collapse finally unless steps are taken by reform-minded members to address the issues.

They stated that the trouble in the APC got out of hand after the congresses recently conducted by the APC at the ward, local government and state levels, which culminated in the purported national NWC of the party, held on June 23, 2018.

The plaintiffs stated that APC has become factionalized and this is no longer a secret as the crisis tearing the party to pieces at the National and sub-national levels are in public domain.

They argued that the manner in which the APC’s national convention was conducted has deepened the division within the party and exacerbated the leadership crisis from wards to the national level.

They claimed that most members of the party feel alienated and this has resulted in open and massive divisions, fictionalization, and disenchantment within the rank and file of the party.

The plaintiffs are praying the court for a declaration that having regard to the constitution of APC, particularly Article 20 thereof,  the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,  Electoral Act,  the election conducted by the party at Eagle on June 23,2018 is invalid,  null and void.

They also want the court to declare that being no valid election at the National convention of APC, thereby leaving a vacuum, the reform-minded faction of APC known as the Reformed All Progressive Congress validly constituted the plaintiffs and the other National officers and state executives of APC to fill the vacuum and act in the interim capacities as officers of the APC.

They therefore pray the court for an order of perpetual induction restraining 1st to 52nd defendants from parading themselves or claiming to be officers of APC  or performing any discussion as officers of the party in any capacity whatsoever as their elections and swearing in as officers of APC as invalid, null and void.

The Galadima led group wants the court to grant an order of perpetual injunction restraining APC from holding the Oshiomhole led executive council and all the state executive council as either national officers, members of the NWC, zonal executives and state executives of the APC.

They want an order of perpetual injunction restraining APC from harassing, intimidating, suspending or expelling any of or all the plaintiffs from the APC,  or taking any steps whatsoever to terminate the membership, rights and entitlements in the APC.

The plaintiffs equally prayed for an order of perpetual injunction restraining INEC from recognizing or accepting the defendants as either national officers, members of NWC, zonal executives or state executives of the APC.

They also want the court to grant an order directing INEC to recognize the plaintiffs who are members of the reform-minded faction of APC as current interim NWC, zonal executives or state executives of the APC and accord them all rights and privileges appertaining to the respective office pending the holding of valid elections by the party.

The case is yet to be assigned to a judge for hearing.
