  • ‘President’s directive on riggers exposed PDP’s antics’

THE Buhari Campaign Organisation (BCO) yesterday praised President Muhammadu Buhari for his directive to the military and other security agencies that they should deal ruthlessly with ballot box snatchers and other election riggers during Saturday’s elections.

Buhari’s support group noted that reactions from the camp of the opposition to Buhari’s order were clear indication that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate were planning to rig the 2019 polls.

In a statement issued in Abuja by its Director of Communication and Strategic Planning, Mallam Gidado Ibrahim, the BCO stated that what the president did with his directive was to uncover a hornet’s nest in the camp of the opposition and stirring it up for Nigerians to know their plan to rig the polls.

Ibrahim said: “We in the BCO give kudos to President Buhari for this marching order. Only the evil-minded should be afraid of the order. The opposition are criticising President Buhari for his comment on ballot box snatchers because they want Nigerians to see nothing of those who denied them electricity and other infrastructure in the past 16 years.”

  • 2019: Tinubu won’t disappoint Buhari, says campaign group

The Buhari Campaign Organisation (BCO) on Monday supported the choice of national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as co-chairman of the APC Presidential Campaign Council.

It said the former Lagos State governor will not disappoint the party and its standard bearer, President Muhammadu Buhari, in the polls judging by his tenacity and political structure.

The President’s support group made its position known following media report of alleged rising discontent within the APC over the composition of its presidential campaign council inaugurated by President Buhari.

The report alleged state governors and some prominent members of the party were not happy with the composition of the council because it is populated mainly by loyalists of Tinubu.

But in a statement by its Director of Communications and Strategic Planning, Mallam Gidado Ibrahim, the BCO allayed such concerns.

It noted if there was anything like that within the party, it shouldn’t be a source of worry.

The group said there couldn’t have been a better choice for a head of the APC presidential campaign council for the forthcoming elections than Tinubu at a time the party is going into the general elections within a short period after undergoing a healing process spearheaded by Tinubu himself.

Ibrahim said: “If there is party supremacy whereby directives of party leaders are being enforced today, it was the ‘Jagaban’ who sustained it.

“By employing both partisan and non-partisan social forces, Tinubu was able to give validity and currency to party supremacy.

“In President Buhari’s thinking when he designated him to lead the consultation, reconciliation and confidence-building efforts in the APC last year, only a person of Tinubu’s political stand can settle all the intra-party feuds in the APC the way he provided the critical supplement for APC’s victory in 2015.

“And in earnest, the appointment of the former Lagos State governor to lead the APC reconciliation committee paid off.

“We believe that he will repeat this same feat of keeping the party as one and how he led the party to win the 2015 polls by leading the APC to a resounding victory in the forthcoming elections in his capacity as co-chairman of the party’s campaign train.

“Those who seem to be worried, going by reports, should relax their mind and give Tinubu the support he needs to actualise the party’s dream of emerging victorious in the 2019 polls”.

  • They want to return Nigeria to bad past, says Buhari campaign organisation

The Buhari Campaign Organisation (BCO) yesterday spurned former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s endorsement of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, describing it as a desperate bid to return Nigeria to its bad past.

In a statement by its spokesman, Festus Keyamo, the BCO berated Obasanjo, Atiku and the religious leaders who attended the event.

According to the BCO, President Muhammadu Buhari’s reelection is in the hands of Nigerians.

The campaign said it was ironic that Atiku had consistently asked for forgiveness from his former boss who often accused him of corruption instead of confronting him with evidence of his innocence.

The statement reads:  “We are inclined to dismiss this gathering and ‘endorsement’ as a complete non-event, but we feel we have a responsibility to Nigerians to remind them of the character and antecedents of these individuals, lest they take Nigerians for granted and see all of us as fools.

“We do not intend to dwell on all the unprintable things touching on the lack of character, lack of integrity and corruptibility of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar that Chief Obasanjo has repeatedly and consistently told the whole world about up until few weeks ago. These are well-documented and circulated for Nigerians to remember.

“However, we are bemused and amused that a character who intends to be President of Nigeria has, for the past 11 years, consistently begged for ‘forgiveness’ from a man who has consistently and unequivocally called him a very corrupt fellow.

“We wonder what type of character would not vigorously confront his accuser with facts to show his innocence, but would rather consistently ask for ‘forgiveness’ from him.

“The desperation to get the endorsement of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo by the PDP and its candidate is a clear sign that they want to return us to our sordid past where a few people decide who should govern us.

“In 2014/2015, President Muhammadu Buhari and his team, out of respect and convention, paid courtesy calls on prominent individuals and statesmen in the course of their campaigns when they visited cities in which these individuals lived.

“However, Nigerians should note that President Buhari was never reported to have grovelled and ‘begged’ anyone for forgiveness, just to be endorsed as a presidential candidate. Ultimately, he relied on the people of Nigeria to decide his fate. President Buhari would continue to rely on the endorsement of the people of Nigeria to be re-elected.

“Interestingly, just a few weeks ago, specifically on the 4th of August, 2018, Chief Obasanjo was widely reported to have said ‘God will never forgive me if I support Atiku for President’.

“Whilst we acknowledge the constitutional right of the ex-president to support anyone of his choice, we draw attention of all God-fearing Nigerians to a character who would use the name of God in vain and in a flip-flop manner in just a matter of weeks. Where is the shame? Where is the honour? Where is the pride?

“When a person invokes the curse of God upon himself if he does a particular thing, like Obasanjo has done, and then deliberately does that particular thing and calls on Nigerians to follow him to receive his curse, Nigerians must flee in the opposite direction.

“We urge Nigerians not to follow this character to receive the curse he invoked upon himself. We are also constrained to ask Chief Obasanjo about his Coalition For Better Nigeria, otherwise known as Third force. We hope it is doing well.

“We also note with interest the full participation of some ‘men of God’ in the entourage of the Peoples Democratic Party for this political re-alignment. We are glad that they have publicly declared their partisan interest and urge all Nigerians to see all their previous, present and future attacks on President Buhari from their pulpits in the context of partisan politics and not in the context of nationalistic or altruistic commitment. We wish them well.

“Finally, we see this gathering as a confederate of desperate power-mongers and questionable characters who wish to return us to the era of unbridled corruption.

“It is significant that the meeting was held in a building which has become the symbol of corruption of the Obasanjo years, where a sitting president collected monies from known government hangers-on and contractors to build a “Presidential Library” in clear violation of the code of conduct for public officers. We hope President Obasanjo would one day return Governor Ayo Fayose’s N10 million to that building as Fayose has requested. It is a significant reminder of the difference between the past and the present.

“Nigerians would soon be called upon to choose between returning us to the era of corrupt presidents and their deputies or continuing on this path of transparency and people-oriented government.”

  • Atiku ‘full of credibility crises’, says Buhari Campaign

The Presidency and the Buhari Campaign Organisation (BCO) yesterday launched a scathing attack on Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Atiku Abubakar, saying he is “full of credibility crises”.

In separate statements by the spokesman of the BCO, Festus Keyamo and Special Assistant on Social Media to the President, Laureta Onochie, Atiku came under fire. BCO questioned the alleged monetisation of the process at the PDP convention in Port Harcourt.

The Campaign Organisation reminded the former Vice President and Nigerians that during the elections, Nigerians would have to decide between a candidate with a history full of credibility crises, damning reports on corruption both home and abroad and another candidate, (the incumbent President) with an unblemished record in public service.”

The statement said: “We wish to congratulate His Excellency, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, on his emergence as the candidate of the PDP in respect of the forthcoming 2019 Presidential Election.

”However, we note with interest all the reports in the media as to massive vote-buying at the PDP primaries (especially with foreign currency). We contrast this with the speech of President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2014 APC Convention when he said as follows:

“I have always served Nigeria to the best of my ability. I have always tried to give more to the nation than it has given me. This is the principle of service that has guided my public life. Thus, I am not a rich person. I can’t give you a fistful of dollars or naira to purchase your support. Even if I could, I would not do so. The fate of this nation is not up for sale.”

“There were also media reports in the 2014 APC National Convention that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar freely used the same method of massive vote-buying in foreign currency, but he came a distant third. Till date, he has not denied those media reports. The claim therefore that the process that produced him now as a candidate of the PDP was free, fair and transparent is suspect.

“It is therefore clear that going into this election, the issues that will agitate the minds of Nigerians most would be centered around the credibility of the candidate of the opposition and the kind of values he brings into our politics.

“Nigerians would ask themselves whether he can be trusted with our national resources with this proclivity for “dollarising” the political arena, thereby taking us back to the warped values from which President Buhari is trying to extricate the nation. One wonders what such a candidate would do with public funds.

“Nigerians would also note with interest the verdict of Atiku’s former boss when he was Vice President on his credibility and integrity, calling him unprintable names at different occasions. Nigerians would note that in all of these occasions, Atiku Abubakar had never defended these allegations against him by his former boss, but continues to court his support and cooperation.

“Nigerians would want to know how candidate Atiku Abubakar intends to inspire a nation to believe in his ability to fight corruption in the face of very damning reports both locally and internationally concerning his records on corruption whilst he was in public service as a Customs officer and later when he was Vice President of Nigeria.

“We note with amusement that on many occasions, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has tried to claim some credit for certain “achievements” during the tenure of President Obasanjo when he was Vice President because, according to him, he was “part of that government”.

“We also wish to remind Nigerians that as much as he claims the credit, he must be prepared to accept joint liability for all that happened in that government. He cannot blow hot and cold. In due time we shall talk about all these.

“Taking all the above into consideration, Nigerians would rightly ask whether a leopard can indeed change its skin despite all the sweet talk they expect to hear from the opposition candidate during the election.”

Ms Onochie said Atiku’s emergence had made the job of the President’s team easier towards retaining the number one seat in 2019.

According to her, Atiku left the APC to avoid contesting against the President in the primary.

She also claimed that Atiku spent more money than other aspirants in the PDP in order to  emerge winner of the Presidential primary election.

She wrote: “Alhaji Atiku Abubakar outspends Saraki, Tambuwal and others, wins the PDP presidential ticket for 2019.

“Congratulations Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. You have outspent the rest. You have a new toy. But believe it, it is only a dream.

“You ran away from facing President Buhari in a primary, now you’ll meet him at the presidential elections. Ntor!

“14.8 million people made President Buhari their candidate, 26,584 people made Atiku their candidate.

“Bearing in mind that you can’t go to America to represent us at the United Nations, nor meet with Nigerians in America, our job is made easy.

“Say Baba Buhari. 2019 is settled. God bless Nigeria,” Onochie added.

  • We’ll compel Buhari to re-contest in 2019, says Buhari Campaign Organisation

National Coordinator, Buhari Campaign Organisation (BCO), Alhaji Danladi Pasali, says the organisation will compel President Muhammadu Buhari to re-contest in 2019.

Pasali spoke in Bauchi yesterday while inaugurating BCO North-East Zonal Secretariat and officials that would run the affairs of the secretariat.

“We will mobilise the masses of this country to compel President Buhari to re-contest during the 2019 General Election since he had fulfilled most of his campaign promises, particularly in areas of security, war against corruption and revamping of the economy,” he said.

“We will secure endorsements for re-election bid of Buhari from various groups across the country.

We will pressurise him to re-contest to enable him consolidate on his achievements and ensure that the corruption fight is irreversible.

“We will work with other like-minded groups and the APC to secure President Buhari’s party nomination and victory in the general elections.”

Pasali said the organisation would use all media platforms and billboards to highlight details of Buhari’s achievements in order to mobilise supports for the re-election of the president in all the 36 states of the country.

He therefore called on Nigerians, both within and those in the diaspora, to support the organisation and ensure that the president excels both during the party’s primaries and the general elections.

While swearing-in the chairmen of the six states within the North-East geo-political zone, the National Coordinator called on them to work tirelessly to ensure that President Buhari was re-elected in 2019.

He noted that all the achievements already made by Buhari would be ruined if he was not re-elected.

The state coordinators are: Alhaji Isa Gonja (Adamawa), Alhaji Aminu Abubakar (Bauchi), Mohammed Mailta (Borno), Suleiman Bako (Gombe), Tukur Sambo (Taraba) and Aminu Nguru (Yobe).
