  • Buhari supporters caution Senators against use of foul language

Supporters of President Muhammadu Buhari under the auspices of Buhari Media Support Group (BMSG) has asked the Senate leadership to caution senators from using foul language on Nigerian leaders on the floor of the senate and during plenary.

The Buhari supporters said it take exception to what it described as conspiratorial stance by some senators against the government of President Muhammadu Buhari with emphasis on abuse of immunity, which emboldens them to use incendiary remarks on the President at different times during their sittings.

In a statement signed by Chairman and Secretary, Austin Braimoh and Cassidy Madueke respectively, the group said it was particularly uncharitable for Senator Eyinaya Abaribe to use foul language against the President who was quoted as saying that Nigerians have been indulging the President he referred to as “incompetent”

BMSG said it took exception to such remarks by Senator Abaribe, a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) member during Thursday Plenary, describing it as reprehensible, his action amounting to an irresponsible brand of politics that the opposition has been exhibiting over time.

The group calls on the Nigerian Senate leadership to always prevent its chamber from turning into a circus that allows use of profane and insulting language as lingua franca with the President of Nigeria being often verbally abused.

While asking the Senate leadership to call members to order on use of intemperate language to address the president, It said, “Senator Abaribe’s comments on the floor of the Senate which engendered a rowdy session are not just shameful to the institution of the Nigerian Senate, but such defiles the hallowed office of the President and even the Senate Chamber.

They also called on Senator Abaribe to tender an unreserved apology to Nigerians and to the President of Nigeria on the ill-conceived remarks credited to him and for him to know henceforth, that the Chamber of the Senate is not to be desecrated in any way.

  • Wike, Lamido, Murray-Bruce warned against ‘reckless speech’

Wike, Lamido, Murray-Bruce warned against ‘reckless speech’

The Buhari Media Support Group (BMSG) has cautioned Rivers State Governor Nyesome Wike, former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido and Senator Ben Murray-Bruce against statements that can negatively inflame passions in the country.

It said “reckless statements and hate speeches” by Nigerians in leadership positions could plunge the nation into internal strife or tarnish its image internationally.

The BMSG, in a statement, said: “While recognising the rights of citizens to freedom of speech under the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, we believe it is imperative to condemn recent unjustifiable and careless statements by those who ought to be aware of the implications of making unguarded public statements.

According to the group, in “one of these reckless statements” Wike allegedly claimed that voting for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2019 elections “would amount to digging the grave for the burial of Nigeria.”

It said the governor also claimed that there had been a nationwide breakdown of security, especially in APC states, which he cited as an example of the Buhari administration’s inability to productively manage natural resources.

“The BMSG considers those comments as untenable and totally against the available evidence in the public arena. The Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) of the President Muhammadu Buhari Administration was embarked on to save Nigeria from continued wastage of its foreign reserves in mindless consumption of foreign goods and services through importation.

“The results of that policy thrust by the administration are already yielding fruits to the national economy, particularly in the areas of agriculture and manufacturing.”

Jonathan’s government most corrupt in Nigerian history – Buhari support group

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has continued to come under heavy attack from supporters of President Muhammadu Buhari over his comment that the Buhari government and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) came to power based on lies and propaganda.

Ones of the President’s support groups, the Buhari Media Support Group (BMSG) yesterday reminded the former President that he ran the most corrupt government in the history of the country and has nothing concrete except monumental looting of public resources to show for his six years rule.

In a statement signed by the Chairman, Hon. Austin Braimoh, and Secretary, Chief Cassidy Madueke and made available to The Nation in Abuja, the group said it was unbecoming for the former President to paint the Buhari in bad light when Nigerians overwhelmingly rejected his government during the 2015 elections for alleged incompetence and running a government without a clear cut direction.

The statement reads in part: “to us, it was uncharitable for the former President to refer to APC as running a government of “lies and propaganda”, while at the same time attempting to impress Nigerians that he ran a faultless government with time tested achievements.

“It is unbecoming of former President Jonathan to speak of President Buhari’s government in bad light, even when majority of Nigerians home and abroad believed he ran the worst and most corrupt government ever.

“We submit that the former President should always remember that Nigerians rejected him overwhelmingly during the 2015 Presidential election on the alleged incompetent and directionless government he ran, all through, a reason he should avoid being brazenly judgemental.

“Indeed, the former President ought to be in the dock by now, answering charges on a welter of proven allegations bothering on phenomenal corruption, ineptitude, utter lack of focus and vision, all which combined to make Nigeria a pariah state under him.

“Former President Jonathan cannot claim to be a saint at this point in time when indeed, huge amounts of stolen funds running into trillions of Naira were recovered from men and women, who served in his government, including the former First Lady.

“Nigerians still remember vividly that looting of treasury was an art under the past government of Jonathan, while terrorism gained momentum uncontrollably as government officials under his watch pilfered from monies earmarked to fight terrorism without remorse

“No one is in doubt that Nigeria fell into the abyss under the Jonathan administration with a completely wreaked economy, which eventually gave way to a gripping recession that took ingenuity and wisdom from Present Buhari’s government to resolve.

“The Jonathan’s administration almost nailed the future of Nigeria, dealing a fatal blow on the system with  a fraudulently contrived privatization agenda,  in which only his cronies and henchmen were, mostly beneficiaries.

“In clearing the rot in the power sector, President Buhari did a rescue operation, which lifted power generation from an all time low of 2, 633MW by 2015 to 7,001MW now.

“To us, Nigerians are grateful that the achievements of the President Buhari administration, in a period of just two years, has surpassed those of the entire 6 years of the Goodluck Jonathan era.”

“We, therefore, allude to  the ability of President Buhari to infuse a sense of transparency probity and accountability in the management of the national economy which has helped to curb looting, return stability to the Foreign Exchange Market while external reserve has continue to be on the sharp rise.

“It is also gratifying for Nigerians that the policy of diversification of economy has revived the agricultural sector, leaving farmers to smile to the banks amid the prospects of growth of agro-allied industries in Nigeria

“In all, we, as a group, give kudos to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on the recoveries of monies and properties from Jonathan’s alleged group of mother looters, appealing to the anti-graft agency not to relent efforts in ensuring the prosecution of those found culpable”.

  • MASSOB leader accused of spreading falsehood

MASSOB leader accused of spreading falsehood

The Buhari Media Support Group (BMSG) on Tuesday accused the leader of the Movement for the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), Chief Ralph Uwazuruike of deliberately spreading a falsehood that the Buhari administration was marginalizing the South-Eastern part of the country.

The group in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja said no government in Nigeria has shown more determination to develop the South-East like the determination so far shown by the Buhari government.

The statement signed by the Chairman of the group, Austin Braimoh and Secretary, Chief Cassidy Madueke, the group said that Uwazuruike’s comments have proven that “he has been a master of deceit all the years that he has operated as the leader of MASSOB”.

“We have observed the churlish, but apparently unsuccessful attempts by some individuals to confuse unsuspecting Nigerians with deliberately spawned narratives casting Buhari’s administration as one with scant regards for the development of the South-East geo-political zone and the equitable consideration of the people of that region in political appointments and other political opportunities.

“The best way to treat characters like Uwazuruike is to totally disregard his voice of falsehood and propaganda since it has become evident that the Buhari administration means well for the South East”.

The group described Uwazuruike’s comments as delusional and unfounded as the Buhari administration has made the South East region a priority in its appointment and development agenda.

It said three prominent Ministries which include Foreign Affairs, Trade and Investment as well as Labour are being manned by Ministers from the South Eastern part of the country.

The group noted that in the past, very few governments made infrastructural development across the country a priority but that the present administration has not just shown the political will to correct that deficit, but has put its money where its mouth is by beginning unprecedented infrastructural development projects across the nation.

BMSG further observed that the Buhari administration has commenced the construction, maintenance and reconstruction of major roads networks in the South-East which were abandoned over the years.

Apart from the road projects, the group said that the construction of the second Niger Bridge which was abandoned by previous administrations has commenced.

“Besides, we are all witnesses to the affirmative action taken by the President in diffusing the growing tension over the matter of ill-advised quit notice by a group of Arewa youths to the Igbos.

“The President was characteristically assertive in the management of the growing imbroglio which threatened the very existence of the country at that time,” BMSG said.

The group advised Nigerians to be cautious of divisive personalities who are in the business of fueling hatred and division along ethnic and religious divides, noting that President Buhari is committed to a united Nigeria.

Buhari support group condemns Rivers violence

The Buhari Media Support Group on Monday condemned the violence that characterised the legislative re-run elections in Rivers on Saturday.

A statement signed by Muhammed Labbo and Cassidy Madueke, the group’s Chairman and Secretary, respectively, in Abuja, called on politicians to learn to conduct themselves within the ambit of the law.

According to the statement, the Federal Government should act swiftly to arrest the unfortunate situation to forestall total breakdown of law and order in the state.

The statement said: “Security agencies should rise up to the task and fish out those behind the recent killings in Rivers.

“They should prosecute them to serve as deterrent to those who are bent on throwing the state into anarchy.

“We appeal to all political parties and politicians in Rivers to conduct themselves and their activities within the ambit of the law.

“We also condemn the recent provocative statements by Gov. Nyesom Wike and advise him to desist from making further reckless statements,’’ the statement said.

It further said that the statements were capable of emboldening his party members and supporters to unleash violence on opposition supporters and innocent citizens of the state.
