  • Buhari’s government different from past governments, says Osinbajo

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo yesterday said that President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration is different from other past administrations as it will not steal the commonwealth of the people.

He spoke at the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Ward Congress in Eti Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State.

In a statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and publicity, Laolu Akande, the Vice President assured all Nigerians that they would share in the benefits that would accrue as the Buhari Administration continues to serve.

He said “We came to find out how things are going, to hear the good news that all our ward congresses are going on very peacefully without any rancour and problems.

“We are confident in our party and the reason we are confident is that we are not thieves, we are different and we want to serve the people and the people know we want to serve them. And with everything we have, we would serve the people. We will make sure we provide everything necessary.

“And I pray that every one of us will all see and benefit in the goodness of this land. None of us would be left behind. We would all see the blessings together.

“Our party is a great party and it will become greater and greater still. What we must achieve in Lagos and other parts of the country is that we must be the best in everything we do we must be the best.

“In terms of progress, whatever we do must be the best, our schools, hospitals and roads must be the best. So we have to put in the resources. And we can do that, very very possible.

“As I have been saying all over the country, the difference between us and any other govt is that we will not steal the money. We must be confident.” he said

He went on “With the decline in the oil prices, we have been earning 60% less than the previous government, but God is helping us, we are getting more and more hopeful.

“With that we would see the changes we hope for, so that our children and ourselves will see the benefits.” he stated

The Vice President also commended the party leaders in the LG.

He said “I have seen that we held these congresses peacefully. I am very happy to be here, to see that our party is making progress and is doing very well.”

Prof. Osinbajo also prayed that “the Lord God Almighty will help us, He will help your children, we will see the goodness in this land, in our own lifetime we will enjoy, suffering must end, progress must continue.”

  • There is hope in Buhari’s government, says cleric

The Shepherd in Charge of Celestial Church of Christ, Alpha and Omega Parish, Superior Evangelist Michael Adeusi, has appealed to Nigerians to continue to cooperate with and support President Buhari administration as it offers greater hope in 2018.

Adeusi said this in an interview with The Nation in Lagos. He said that President Buhari’s administration offers hope and a bright future for Nigeria as he is making every effort necessary to make life bearable for the people of Nigeria.

He noted that there are no perfect systems in the world but each government through its leaders makes frantic effort to address the needs of the people at every point in time.

He opined that the giant stride recorded in tackling the Boko Haram menace and fighting corruption, a major cankerworm that has eaten deep into the fabrics of our nation, is highly commendable.

Adeusi said: “I am very excited when former chief of staff and senior military officials were questioned on how they used the funds under their watch. No government since I was born has been able to dare these set of people. I believe that this administration offers a lot of hope for us.”

Although he expressed sadness over the state of the economy, he admonished Nigerians to allow the president to finish his tenure so that he can at least fulfill some of the campaign promises.

He stated that Rome was not built in a day and thus effort to rebuild broken walls may take time, and when it’s finally built everyone will rejoice.

He encouraged Christians not to relent in their prayer to God for mercy upon Nigeria.

  • It’s difficult to remove PDP members in Buhari’s government – Presidential aide

It’s difficult to remove PDP members in Buhari’s government – Presidential aide

A Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Social Media, Mrs. Lauretta Onochie, on Tuesday said it would be difficult for President Muhammadu Buhari to remove members of Peoples Democratic Party members who are serving in his government overnight.

She spoke at the 2nd annual international conference on Tuesday in Abuja with the theme focusing on institutions: A panacea for sustainable development.

The event was organized by the Progressive Solidarity Forum in collaboration with National Orientation Agency.

She corroborated claims by Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Services, Col. Hammed Ali (rtd) who said that the change agenda of Buhari government had been hijacked by members of PDP who defected to the All Progressives Congress.

She said more than 50 per cent of PDP members are in the Buhari government serving in the presidency, judiciary and law enforcement agencies.

According to her, these members are serving their personal interest instead of that of President Buhari government.

Mrs. Onochie said: “That brings me to those who are in this government to serve themselves. Those Col. (rtd) Hammed Ali, the CG Customs called PDP. He said that there are about 50 percent of them in this government.

”But I say no they are more than 50 per cent. They are everywhere. They are in the presidency, the national assembly. You can find them in the judiciary, they are in the law enforcement agency.

”They serve their personal interest. They encourage unsuspecting youths, our youths to be their foot soldiers on the social media to abuse and curse people while their own children are sipping tea in England or America or elsewhere. They are a poor example to our youngsters on the social media.

”You just don’t go and change all the agencies. That is not how it works. If you have to change the whole civil service, the whole police, the whole market women, you change the whole children in the school.

She said Nigerians must come together to fight corruption before it kills the nation.

”Corruption is everywhere. All of us must come together and join hands with this president to kill corruption before corruption kills our nation.

“Our youth population is in need of good role models. They were born into corruption,” she said.

Earlier in his remarks, Grand Patron and Founder of the organization, Dr. Ibrahim Emokpaire, said Nigeria needs a strong institution to fight corruption.

According to him, the federal government needs to focus on creating a robust and dynamic institution to accelerate development on a sustainable basis.

“Focusing on functioning institutions remains the most pragmatic enduring legacies, of the short stint of a progressive party in the governance of Nigeria,” he said

  • Economy: Buhari’s government confused, adamant, says Ezekwesili

Economy: Buhari’s government confused, adamant, says Ezekwesili

Former Vice President of the World Bank for Africa, Dr. Obiageli Ezekwesili, has described the economic policies of the government as “confusing,” expressing regret that in spite of the confusion, the government remains “adamant.”
Ezekwesili, convener of the Bring Back Our Girls and former minister was speaking in the current edition of The Interview magazine.
Answering a question on the call for diversification, she said: “I am not a fan of the economic policies of this government so far; I feel it’s too tentative in making even the right policy decisions and even when it tries to make the right policy decisions, it has been in the breach. It has been very confusing.”
In a statement, the MD/Editor-In-Chief of The Interview, Azu Ishiekwene, described the interview as “a no-nonsense call to reflection. Oby is not treading on eggshells. It’s bareknuckle stuff.”
Ezekwesili said: “It’s not that the government is timid; it’s about doing the wrong things and being adamant about them.”
She cited the government’s monetary and fiscal policies as key areas of denial of “empirical evidence” and called for structural reforms and better citizen engagement.
In the interview, conducted before the BBOG’s visit to Sambisa, Ezekwesili wept over the fate of the remaining Chibok girls, saying the episode had exposed the Federal Governments in their “worst form.”
She spoke on what she would do if President Muhammadu Buhari invited her to serve; her perception of former President Goodluck Jonathan and her relationship with former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Also in this edition, the founder of the Centre for Values in Leadership, Prof Pat Utomi, spoke, among other things, on why he is not in Buhari’s cabinet and on Nigeria’s “self-inflicted recession.”
Entrepreneur Mo Abudu; leadership capital enthusiast, Linus Okorie; and pharmacist-turned-bag designer, Maureen Obayewa, also share their experiences.

  • Response to naysayers’ verdict on Buhari’s government

Nigeria is a unique country. One that boasts of too many intelligent commentators and critical analysts. Going through Nigerian dailies, this much can be deduced from the many opinion pages. However, the sore point with the litany of commentators, opinion writers and analysts in Nigeria is that most of them have lately constituted themselves into prophets of doom, naysayers and masters of letters but without any substance.

It is disheartening that most of these people seem to think that by virtue of the letters after their names, they know better than those of us without a letter apart from the initials before our surnames. So they come out with ‘abracadabra’ to confuse the masses. They have used every trick in the book to confuse the masses on the good works of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration, casting doubts on the giant strides the All Progressives Congress (APC) government has made since May 2015.

The simple truth is that the man Buhari is doing a wonderful job in eradicating the pests and madness of our society—corruption, indiscipline, insecurity and so on. The question I have always asked this band of prophets of doom and naysayers is where were they when certain officials gathered together and decided to share money that was meant for the procurement of heavy military hardware to fight terrorism? Or who could have been bold enough to prosecute a sitting Senate President, top politicians and popular individuals without fear? Who else could have tackled upcoming terrorism as ‘Biafra agitators’ and the menace of renewed militancy in the South South.

The lessons we are learning now is that if the now fading Boko Haram nuisance had been dealt with through military response, like we are witnessing, they would have become history by now. The point l am then making is that instead of destructive criticisms, these so called ‘Dr. Know-alls’ should come up with solutions to support and help the progressive movement. Unfortunately, even if Buhari assumes some supernatural powers and walks on water, the naysayers will say it is because he cannot swim. It is a known fact that you cannot please all the people.

One challenge I have consciously thrown at our band of intellectuals is that they should give the masses the names of other individuals they think can perform better than Buhari. The time has come for Nigerians as a people to learn to show appreciation for their leaders so that our country can move forward for the sake of our future and generations yet unborn.

One of the things our band of critics have been talking about lately is that the President has been appointing people into positions from a particular section of the country. Inasmuch as these people have the right to their opinions, there is the need for us to be objective. What the greatest critics of Buhari have forgotten is that the overall interest of the nation and the ability of the appointed persons to move the nation forward is the most important. Whether he puts his mother, his dad or his whole clan in positions, it is unimportant, as long as we are moving forward. The truth is that if we had continued with ‘you chop, l chop’ PDP, things would have been worse. Even the developed countries went through hard times before they got better.

Today, Nigeria is a better place in the sphere of security, thanks to President Buhari. If you come to Abuja, you can feel the peace and calmness around. People go about their businesses, go worshipping in their churches and mosques without the fear of Boko Haram. Hooligans parading the streets of Onitsha in the name of Biafra were quickly quietened. The marauders, lawlessly carrying guns in military style, vandalising oil pipelines and terrorising communities in the name of Avengers, behaving like they are untouchables, to their own misfortune, when the forces of real military action came on them, they fell to pieces. This is what a real military in Nigeria should be. It does not really matter what people say, the military command under Gen. Tukur Buratai is doing a fabulous work and does not need distractions from negative press the way our prophets of doom and naysayers are going about it.

If the militants and other violent groups disturbing the peace and economy of this nation want dialogue, they will be listened to. But if all the stolen money from former President Goodluck Jonathan’s regime is being used to buy guns and bombs and handed over to some thugs to start war (because EFCC is closing in on them ), what do you expect ? War only begets war. Histories are written by victors, not the defeated.

Like l said earlier, even if Buhari walks on water, it won’t marvel those who are set in their ways, as in the case of our Lord Jesus Christ, they will still say it is because he couldn’t swim. Leave the man Buhari alone and learn to face and manage your own immediate problems. You guys behave like kids deprived of cookies. Grow up!
