  • Group petitions DSS over attempts by ex NEMA DG, Sani Sidi, others to frustrate Buhari’s Govt

A group, the Empowerment for Unemployed Youths Initiative has petitioned the Department of State Services, DSS over plans by the former Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA and one Hafsat Shaibu to frustrate the Government of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The group in the petition dated July 16, 2018 and signed by the National Coordinator of the group, Solomon  Adodo raised alarm over plan by Sani Sidi and Shaibu to also cripple activities at the NEMA headquarters.

Adodo in the petition said ordinarily the group would have ignored their plans but the recent discovery that their plan is also aimed at destroying NEMA is part of a wider plot to shut down the entire country with crises.

“Targeting NEMA is meant to ensure that the Government is unable to manage emergencies arising from the breakdown of law and order being plotted by Shuaibu, Sidi and their other collaborators

“An advanced phase of the plot is that Nigeria will then be compelled to accept foreign domination once it is unable to internally manage its own emergency situations”he said

The group while further alleging that the duo of Sanu Sidi and Shaibu have enriched themselves when they held sway at the helm of affairs at NEMA said the situation then made IDPs to publicly protest against neglect by the Government.

“Sidi did not only defraud NEMA but now deployed the proceeds of the corruption for obstructing justice by paying bribes to federal lawmakers to indict other persons for the theft of public funds at NEMA”he said

The group said it was forced to write the petition due to the activities of those agents and their collaborators who finance and sponsor terrorism in the country just to prove that they are untouchable even after stealing public funds.

“It is on record that Shuaibu lives a lifestyle that is way above her means and in recent times has been holding meetings with groups and persons suspected to be members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, IMN and could have financed their recent attempts to to overwhelm security personnel in Abuja”

“We understand that she had contacts with the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB to repeat an outing similar to the IMN attack in  Abuja while she has also had talks with persons of extreme views with the intention of causing serious mayhem randomly across the country”the group alleged in the petition.

The group further urged the DSS to deploy its good office to investigate Hafsat Shaibu and Engineer Sani Sidi for their roles in stealing public funds to attempt destabilizing and sacking a demicratically and legitimately elected Government

“We believe Nigerians deserve to be protected from whatever these two hardened entities are planning”the group said

We’ll do things faithfully in Buhari’s govt, says Osinbajo

    •LCCI hails President on economy

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has assured business stakeholders that the Buhari administration, in line with its Economic Recovery and Growth Plan, will continue to ensure the implementation of policies to drive socio-economic growth and prosperity.

He spoke while receiving a delegation from the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Osinbajo, in a statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, said: “I think that no one is in doubt that we have very great policies and we will ensure that these things are implemented and are done as faithfully as possible.”

He said the private sector will continue to play a prominent role in the economic programmes and initiatives of the Buhari administration.

The vice president noted the significance of private sector investment in the economy, adding that collaboration between the Federal Government and the private sector will further boost the country’s economic progress.

“If you look at our economic programmes and several other initiatives, the private sector plays a prominent role in them, and that is how it should be. So, there is no question that the roles the LCCI and private sector play are critical to the kind of development policies and plan that we have in this government.”

The vice president hailed the LCCI for its Presidential Policy Dialogues on the economy, which he noted has helped in shaping some initiatives and policies of government.

Osinbajo said the Buhari administration would continue to have robust engagements and work with the private sector and stakeholders in developing plans for implementation of several economic projects.

He noted that, in conjunction with the private sector, the Federal Government is resolving the Apapa, Lagos traffic gridlock.

The delegation’s leader and LCCI President, Mr. Babatunde Ruwase, hailed the Buhari administration for its laudable economic initiatives, which he said, has made Nigeria a more investment-friendly destination.

He said: “We appreciate the series of Executive Orders focused on promoting the ease of doing business in the country. These orders are impacting positively on the business environment and promoting an inclusive economy through the scaling up of the local content in government expenditure.”

  • Oyo APC: Buhari’s govt ‘ll disappoint cynics in 2018

The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has assured Nigerians that the Muhammadu Buhari administration will leave the worst cynics of the party with nothing to capitalise on.

The party said the Buhari administration’s efforts to restore Nigeria to the path of greatness would be felt in all sectors this year.

In a statement by its State Chairman, Chief Akin Oke, the ruling party predicted that more comfort and happiness would come the way of Nigerians as the party – at all levels – had planned to change the status of Nigeria from that of a hopelessness and vulnerability nation to that of hopefulness, abundance and stability country.

The statement said: “The less-than three years that the APC has been in the saddle have been so challenging but there are strong indications that God Almighty, who caused the Change to happen in 2015, would not abandon the country as we make steady progress in the areas of improved security, economic recovery, food sufficiency and political stability. Therefore, most Nigerians are aware of the difference made so far and they are ready to encourage the APC to consolidate on these achievements.

“In Oyo State, we salute the courage of Governor Abiola Ajimobi for remaining steadfast and resolute on his mission to restore, reform and transform the Pacesetter State, despite the daunting challenges of paucity of funds. We have seen how he has been able to offset the backlog of salary arrears when most states in the country are still battling with the problems while the vision to improve social infrastructure has not suffered any abandonment.

“More importantly, we would like to applaud leaders, elders and members of our great party for their patience, resilience and loyalty over the years while we also wish them a prosperous new year. It is our sincere prayer that each member would derive maximum benefits from their patriotism and contribution to the development of the APC. Events in recent time have indicated that APC is a party one can be proud of, and we urge members to keep the flag flying.”

Also, Oyo State APC has hailed its elected representatives and other political office holders, particularly “those who have never distanced themselves from the party as well as the people that elected or supported them”.

The party expressed appreciation to its good ambassadors, stressing that the few who performed below expectations should raise their game as the 2019 would be more competitive.

It said: “Apart from the governor, who has performed creditably, we also have many Federal lawmakers and state Assemblymen, who have done well to provide dividends of democracy to the people, at the same time assist the cause of democracy and good governance. However, we can assure that only the best would emerge as the party’s standard bearers at all levels in 2019 general election.

“On the 2019 governorship ticket, we are delighted with the quality of aspirants who have so far indicated their intention by visiting the state secretariat (of the party) while we charge them to maintain decency and decorum in their subtle mobilisation efforts ahead of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and party guidelines. All the aspirants are guaranteed a level-playing field. The party will not disappoint the masses as it will present the best among the pack when the time comes.

“Lastly, we appreciate the decision of many notable political players in the state, especially those who recently pitched their tent with the APC. We encourage them to see themselves as having equal stakes as others who have been in the party before them. We assure all of them of fair treatment, as the party is always ready to reward hard work, commitment and loyalty.”

  • ‘It’s difficult to remove PDP members in Buhari’s govt’

A Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Social Media, Mrs. Lauretta Onochie, said yesterday that it would be difficult for President Muhammadu Buhari to remove Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP’s) members serving in his administration, overnight.

She spoke at the 2nd Annual International Conference in Abuja, with the theme: “Focusing on institutions: A panacea for sustainable development”.

The event was organised by the Progressive Solidarity Forum in collaboration with National Orientation Agency.

Onochie corroborated claims by Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Services Col. Hammed Ali (retd), who said the change agenda of the Buhari administration had been hijacked by PDP members, who defected to All Progressives Congress (APC).

She said more than 50 per cent of PDP members were in the Buhari government serving in the presidency, judiciary and law enforcement agencies.

According to her, “these people are serving their interest, instead of that of the Buhari administration.”

Onochie said: “That brings me to those who are in this government to serve themselves. Those Col. Ali called PDP. He said there are about 50 per cent of them in this government.

“But I say no, they are more than 50 per cent. They are everywhere. They are in the Presidency, National Assembly. You can find them in the judiciary; they are in the law enforcement agencies.

“They serve their personal interest. They encourage unsuspecting youths, our youths to be their foot soldiers on the social media to abuse and curse people, while their own children are sipping tea in England or America or elsewhere. They are a poor example to our youngsters on the social media.

“You just don’t go and change all the agencies. That is not how it works. If you have to change the whole civil service, the whole police, the whole market women, you change the whole children in school.”

She said Nigerians must fight corruption before it kills the nation.

“Corruption is everywhere. All of us must support the President to kill corruption before it kills our country.

“Our youths are in need of good role models. They were born into corruption,” Onochie said.

The organisation’s Grand Patron and Founder, Dr. Ibrahim Emokpaire, said Nigeria needed a strong institution to fight corruption.

He said the Federal Government should focus on creating a robust and dynamic institution to accelerate development on a sustainable basis.

“Focusing on functioning institutions remains the most pragmatic enduring legacies of the short stint of a progressive party in the governance of Nigeria,” Emokpaire said.

Have faith in Buhari’s govt, Rivers APC urges Nigerians

The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has admonished Nigerians to have faith in President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

The party also hailed the revolution in the Railway sub-sector, engendered by the Buhari administration through the Ministry of Transportation under former Rivers Governor Rotimi Amaechi.

In a statement yesterday in Port Harcourt, the state capital, by the chairman’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, Rivers APC hoped the Buhari administration would soon revive and reposition the Transportation sector and the economy.

The party described yesterday’s signing of a contract for the Calabar-Port Harcourt coastal rail line, which is expected to be completed in 2018, as well as the impending signing of the contract for the Kano-Kaduna railway project, as steps in the right direction.

It said: “We heartily congratulate the Muhammadu Buhari administration for the revolution being executed through the Ministry of Transportation, headed by our leader, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. We are convinced that this is just the beginning of greater things to come from the ministry and Buhari’s administration.

“The Abuja-Kaduna railway, earlier inaugurated by the Buhari administration, has created 700 jobs, while the Lagos-Ibadan railway project will start before the end of this year, and will be completed in two years.

“If this is not a revolution, then we will like to know what a revolution is. Truly, we have moved away from the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP’s) corruption economy to production economy.”

Rivers APC also expressed happiness that Amaechi had taken his revolutionary trends to the national level.

Thye party reassured Nigerians that they would witness greater feats before the end of the Buhari administration.

It said: “The developmental strides of Amaechi in Rivers State speak volumes and we are happy that he has not disappointed us and the country.

“We congratulate President Buhari, not only for his faith in his Minister of Transportation, but also for giving him the conducive environment to operate and achieve all these feats.”
