“I don’t know if I should call my children my pillar of life. They know I have always lived my life for them. But now, they told me, ‘Iya (Mother), you’ve been living for us; it’s time to live for yourself, enjoy life, and have fun,’” she said. “They contributed millions to support my career, and I’m so happy.”

Wright also spoke candidly about her battle with clinical depression during her time abroad, particularly at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“My depression started during COVID. Watching the news, you’d hear that millions had died, and it was terrifying. Until now, I still suffer from high blood pressure and take medication for it. I was alone, and I thought, ‘Maybe if I were home, someone would be with me.’ So many thoughts ran through my mind—‘What if you die? What if you catch COVID?’ I would cook but not eat. To tell you the honest truth, if you’re not a very strong person, living abroad can be very depressing,” she admitted.

Nigerian men are not ready for self-made women – Bukky Wright

Movie star Bukky Wright has opened up about the difficulties actresses encounter in their relationships, particularly with Nigerian men.

In an interview with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu on Channels TV, Wright revealed that many actresses struggle to find suitable partners due to the nature of their profession.

She explained that some men who pursue actresses often have ulterior motives, such as seeking fame or clout, rather than genuine love.

She further noted that when the “right” men do come along, they often lack the emotional maturity to handle a relationship with a strong, independent woman.

According to Wright, Nigerian men are generally unprepared to embrace the independence and self-sufficiency of a self-made woman.

She said: “To be very honest, it affects homes, it affects your marriage but at the same time do you get the right men to come to you? Most of the time it’s a no, because the men who feel they’re right for you, I had someone ask, where do I start from, I’ll be like seriously? Start from wherever, start from the beginning, you’re a man, and I’m a woman. But unfortunately, you get to find out that the men that have the guts to talk to you as an actress are probably, I don’t want to say, clout chasers.

“But you won’t blame the women in the Industry because these are the men that come up to them, and for somebody that has that kind of intention, what do you expect out of that marriage? And at times when the right men come, a lot of them don’t have what it takes to be with a self-made woman or a popular actress, sometimes they get jealous on what they’re not supposed to get jealous on forgetting that you met this woman doing this job, you saw her on the screen as an actress, you saw her as a self-made woman before you approached her, so what is it you’re jealous of, is it the fame or what?

“Because I’ve seen a lot of things, I’m going to say this has happened to me, I’ll just say that Nigerian men are not ready for a self-made woman. I’m sorry if this comes as an insult, but are you ready for a self-made woman? Are you ready for an independent woman? because if you want an independent woman or if you want a strong woman, trust me there are some things that you can’t get”.

She concluded that men who desire a submissive partner should consider seeking someone who is not ambitious or driven, as a strong-willed woman will inevitably rebel against attempts to suppress her aspirations.

“But if you want a woman that will always succumb to you, I’ll say go to your village, and get somebody that is not aspiring to be anything in life because if a woman is aspiring to be something and you marry her, and you’re now trying to pull her down, she’ll rebel”, she added.

Why I took a break from acting, by Bukky Wright

Seasoned actress Bukky Wright has revealed that her long break from acting was largely due to the desire to prioritise her children’s needs.

In a recent interview with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu on Channels TV, Wright explained that she had to take time off to care for her children abroad, emphasising the importance of being present for them during critical stages of their lives.

She said: “Well I decided to diversify into something else for a bit but I’m back. Well if you call it making money, I didn’t fall out of love with acting, and I haven’t done it all.

“There are still lots of things I’m looking forward to doing, but I had to take a break for my children,my children called so I had to take a break. You know there’s a time in a woman’s life and the children’s lives where they need you more than ever, my children are abroad so I had to leave everything to go take care of my children.

“Because I’d always tell anybody, you don’t want to leave your children with anybody abroad, especially at a certain age, that’s when they’ll say, ” ‘ You’re not my mum, you can’t talk to me like that, you’re not my dad you can’t tell me that’ , so be there yourself.

“That’s why we’re mothers, sometimes we even have to go for Omugwo, I’ve never heard a man go for Omugwo. If it’s because of what we come back with, have you thought of what we go through?

“Mothers will always be mothers, I’m not faulting any man for being a father, but in Yoruba land we’d say ” ‘ Iya ni iya mi,Baba ni baba gbobo aye, that means my mother is my mother, but a father can be a father to many”.

  • Bukky Wright: APPRECIATION IS THE CURE FOR DEPRECIATION

ALTHOUGH presently keeping a low profile, cross-over actress Bukky Wright who recently celebrated her birthday, has decried people who choose to be ungrateful to God because of other challenges of life they may be facing, calling such people fools.

“Appreciation is the cure for depreciation,” she said.

“If you’re not Thankful, your tank can not be full; if you’re not Grateful, you are nothing but a great fool. Thank you Lord!. Holding a grudge might feel good in the moment. It might even make us feel powerful and vindicated, as if we are letting the person who hurt us know that we are holding them in prison until they recognize their wrong towards us.

“In reality, all it does is create more pain and hurt inside of us. This has a severe impact on our physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional self. It is imperative that people understand that holding a grudge and allowing bitterness to take a deep root inside us is not a power position, but a position of bondage”.
