Princess Toyin Kolade gives mum befitting burial

    By Oladapo Sofowora

Last Saturday will remain fresh in the minds of the indigenes of the ancient town of Ilesha, Osun State. It was the day society lady Princess Toyin Kolade came to town to bury her beloved mother in grand style.

The mother of the boss of Fisolak Global Resources, Madam Comfort Folorunsho Adejuyigbe, had passed on in October, last year at the age of 92 and Princess Kolade had been planning a talk of the town burial for months. Her efforts came to glorious fruition on Friday April 28 and Saturday April 29 with a grand occasion that many people will not forget in a hurry.

The Christian wake held on Friday was followed by the grand burial at Oke Ibukun Stadium in the town. Princess Kolade’s late mum was from the Biladu royal lineage and the Arimoro ruling house in Ijebuland. It was no surprise, therefore, that eminent royal personages, including the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and the Owa Obokun of Ilesha, Oba Gabriel Aromolaran, stormed the event to play the roles befitting of royal fathers.

Alongside the many musicians that graced the event, prominent Nollywood acts like Bisi Ibidapo-Obe, Yinka Quadri, Taiwo Hassan and Fathia Balogun were on hand to honour her.

  • Toyin Kolade set to give mum befitting burial

The best way a man or a woman can prove their love for their parents is to take good care of them while they are alive and celebrating their memories when they are gone. With this in mind, Lagos socialite, Princess Toyin Kolade, is planning the ‘mother of all burial ceremonies’ for her beloved mother who bade the world farewell in October last year.

The pillar of high society, who presides over Fisolak Resources, is determined to hold an event that will be the talk of the town for a long time. To this end, Iyalaje, as she is fondly called, has set the machinery in motion to ensure that the final rites for her mum, who departed at the ripe old age of 92, are as grand as possible.

Prominent men and women of high society are expected to storm the Ilesa, Osun State venue of the event to lend support to one of their own. From the catering to the sitting arrangements and the music (popular singer Yinka Ayefele has already been contracted), Princess Kolade is not leaving anything to chance.

Olorogun Oskar Ibru plans big for father’s burial

A LIFE well lived is a life well spent, as the saying goes. In the case of the recently-departed patriarch of the Ibru dynasty, Olorogun Michael Ibru, it is set to also be a life well celebrated if plans by his son and heir, Olorogun Oskar Ibru, and the family are anything to go by.

Olorogun Michael, who founded the Ibru organisation in the 50s, died in the early hours of Tuesday, September 6. Until his death, he presided over a huge conglomerate spanning interests in fish trading, transportation, tourism, breweries, timber and poultry, among others. He was the most distinguished indigene of his hometown, Agbarha-Otor, where he was a prominent chieftain. He brought his town honour and prestige to the extent that the Olorogun honorific became synonymous with the Ibru family.

Death had earlier rocked the Ibru Empire in March. Olorogun Felix Ibru, younger brother of Olorogun Michael and the first governor of Delta State exited the land of the living for the realm of his ancestors. His funeral ceremony, which is still discussed in Delta State and beyond, held just over a month ago.

It is, however, fair to expect the burial rites for Olorogun Michael to surpass the preceding ceremony in size, majesty and grandeur. He had fives wives and numerous children and grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Goodie Ibru, and two sisters.
