    Suspected car snatcher held

    The Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) has arrested a suspected car snatcher, Bolaji Hafiz.

    Hafiz, 35, was apprehended last weekend by a team of policemen led by the Officer-in-Charge of FSARS, Sanusi Mohammed, a Chief Superintendent (CSP) on Lagos Island.

    It was gathered that an unregistered black 2008 RAV4 Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) was recovered from him.

    A source said the suspect usually went to car shops to rob owners of their vehicles after generating fake bank alerts.

    It was gathered that the police have initiated actions to recover other stolen vehicles from him.

    Operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), Ikeja have arrested a suspected notorious car snatcher, Bolaji Hafiz.

    Hafiz, 35, was apprehended at the weekend by a team of policemen led by the Officer-in-Charge of FSARS, Sanusi Mohammed, a Chief Superintendent (CSP) at Lagos Island.

    It was gathered that an unregistered black 2008 RAV4 Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) was recovered from him.

    A source who hinted on the arrest said that the suspect usually went to car shops and fleece owners of their vehicles after generating fake bank alerts.

    It was gathered that the police have commenced actions to recover several other stolen vehicles allegedly in his custody.

    FCT: Police arrest suspected car snatcher

    The Police Command in FCT said it had arrested a suspected car snatcher, Abubakar Umar of Jabi Daki Biu, Abuja.

    The command’s spokesman, ASP Anjuguri Manzah, made this known in a statement in Abuja on Sunday.

    Manzah said the suspect was arrested following a stop and search conducted by the operatives of the command at Dikwa, the boundary between the FCT and Niger.

    “The suspect was intercepted and arrested on Oct. 20 by the eagle-eyed police operatives while trying to escape with a blue coloured Mazda BRV 822 BS,” he said.

    He said the car was reported to have been snatched at gunpoint from its owner at Gosa, Lugbe.

    The spokesman said his cohort escaped on sighting the police operatives on duty.

    Manzah said that FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammad Mustafa, had ordered the transfer of the suspect and exhibit from Zuba Police Division to the Command Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (CIID).

    He said the commissioner said the transfer of the suspect would lead to the arrest of other members of the gang now at large.

    “The suspect in police custody has been cooperating with the Team of Police detectives in the ongoing investigation.

    “He will be charged to court on conclusion of investigation.

  • Car snatcher nabbed in Kebbi

    The police in Kebbi State have paraded two persons described as car snatchers.

    The names of the two suspects were given as Abdulwahab Yusuf, 35, and Esther Ejembi, 26. One other person is said to be at large. Yusuf, Ejembi and the absconded one were said to have snatched a Sport Utility Vehicle at gunpoint along Area 11, Garki Abuja.

    Parading the suspects, the police Public Relations Officer, Kabiru Bawa Rawayau explained that immediately the incident happened, the police were informed and surveillance was placed on them.

    He pointed out that despite several checkpoints, the suspects had managed to beat every road block. But they ran out of luck as they were overpowered at a place called Maraba-Yauri, in Kebbi State.

    The gang leader whose name was not given, is said to have bolted into the bush on citing the team of policemen at a checkpoint.

    The police spokesman added that the Honda Jeep with registration number, Lagos, KJA 665 BD, was in custody as further investigation continued.
