    Cardiff manager hails ‘impressive’ Odemwingie

The manager of Cardiff City, Malkay Mackay, has said he believes West Bromich Albion short-changed themselves by offloading Osaze Odemwingie during the last transfer window.

Futaa.com reports that Odemwingie impressed in a cameo appearance on his debut against Tottenham on Sunday and is set to feature in a heavily-changed side for Tuesday night’s Capital One Cup clash against West Ham.

The former Lille forward spent seven months in the wilderness at WBA after his aborted move to Queens Park Rangers in January. He joined the Welsh capital side for around £2.5million on transfer deadline day.

“He has guile, a great touch, awareness. I know exactly what I have got: an intelligent, articulate lad who had a smile on his face since the day that he got here.

“He is in the need of match fitness and training and we need to blend him in gently. But we have an exciting talent for what I believe is a really fantastic price.

Odemwingie holds WBA record for the most Premiership goals by any player.

  • Odemwingie ready for Cardiff City debut

Cardiff City new signing, Osaze Odemwingie, has stated that he will be more than happy to be involved in his team’s next outing after the international break.

The Welsh capital side plays fellow EPL newcomer Hull City after the international break, futaa.com reports.

Odemwingie, who has since return to his usual happy self after the transfer deadline-day £2.5m move to Cardiff is aiming to settle fast into his new team.

“The next 10 days or so will go fast and I’d love to be involved at Hull, futaa.com quoted Odemwingie as saying on Cardiff’s official site.

He added, “Its good timing to come at a time like this.

“I have two weeks to get to know the other players and I’m really looking forward to that.

Cardiff is currently 11th on the EPL table with four points from three matches.

    Hull releases Olofinjana

Hull City has released Seyi Olofijana from the club after securing promotion to the English Premier League, Supersport.com reports.

The former Nigeria international was offloaded along with 11 others, while four players including Senegal veteran, Abdoulaye Faye, were offered new deals.

Without a Championship start since November, Olofinjana was allowed to join the Championship strugglers Sheffield Wednesday ahead of March’s emergency loan deadline for Football League clubs.

The move effectively ended his four-year association with the Tigers, and his release on Thursday was confirmation that there will be no place for him as manager Steve Bruce reshapes his squad. His four-year contract was due to expire in June.

An injury-plagued Olofinjana has dramatically failed to live up to expectations since his £3 million from Stoke City in the summer of 2009.

Although he spent the 2010/11 season on loan with Cardiff City, he has earned about £6 million in wages during his four years on the Tigers books.

In return, he made just 24 starts and scored once for the club.

Olofinjana follows a similar path threaded by compatriot Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha, who was released by Hull City at the end of the 2007/08 season after making only 11 starts for the club.
