    Firm projects higher revenue, growth after acquisition deal

    Champion Breweries Plc has projected more than a five-fold increase in revenue and over 10 times growth in profit after tax following acquisition of Bullet, Nigeria’s alcoholic brand.

    Speaking at its “Facts Behind the Figures” session at Nigerian Exchange (NGX) in Lagos, Managing Director, Inalegwu Adoga, said the deal will contribute over 70 per cent of Champion’s topline and expand foreign currency earnings in 14 African markets.

    In H1 2025, Champion Breweries Plc recorded a 111 per cent surge in revenue and a 692 per cent turnaround in profit after tax, reflecting execution and positioning the business for sustained growth.

    “This is a transformative moment for Champion Breweries. Bullet gives us scale, high-margin growth, and international reach. With this acquisition, we are evolving from a strong regional brewer into a multi-market, multi-category growth platform with international relevance,” Adoga said.

    Its majority shareholder, enJOYcorp, reinforced the long-term ambition. “Bullet expands Champion’s reach in Africa, diversifies its earnings into foreign currencies, and strengthens its portfolio with trend-driven products,” said David Butler, managing director of enJOYcorp and board member of Champion. “This is a step for transformative African beverage brands that can compete globally.”

    To support the acquisition and future expansion, Champion Breweries is launching a N58 billion capital raise programme (N42 billion public offer and N16 billion rights issue). Proceeds will fund the Bullet deal, working capital, market expansion, and sustainability investments.

    Funds will also support technology upgrades, such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and returnable packaging solutions, with renewable energy and logistics transformation.

    Champion Breweries is complementing its growth with a sustainability roadmap. Plans include transitioning its Uyo brewery to solar power, exploring CNG for its fleet, and reducing plastic waste through packaging innovation.

     In the past year, its shares have delivered 302 per cent gain on NGX. The firm has also refreshed its governance with independent directors to strengtheni oversight and align with global best practice.

    Shareholders okay N45b capital for Champion Breweries expansion

    Champion Breweries Plc shareholders have approved an increase in authorised share capital to five billion shares and sanctioned a fresh capital raise of N45 billion by way of debt and bonds.

    The moves by the shareholders align with EnjoyCorp Limited’s strategic growth agenda following its 2024 majority acquisition of Champion Breweries Plc.

    The proceeds will fund a landmark acquisition of key intellectual property and brand assets, underscoring Champion Breweries’ ambition to accelerate growth and strengthen its market leadership.

    The approval was secured at the company’s Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM), held virtually, marking a decisive vote of confidence in Champion Breweries’ transformation agenda and long term growth trajectory.

    Under the resolutions passed, the capital raise will bolster the company’s balance sheet, enhance liquidity, and provide the financial flexibility required to execute an aggressive expansion and innovation programme.

    Shareholders also endorsed the acquisition of select intellectual property and brand assets to broaden Champion Breweries’ portfolio, boost operational efficiency, and cement its position in Nigeria’s competitive beverage market.

    Chairman of the Board, Imo Abasi Jacob, described the approval as a pivotal step forward.

     “We are extending our promotional reach with eco-friendly units already on the road.

    This capital raise empowers us to fast track growth, launch premium innovations, and deepen market presence, all while upholding our commitment to quality, sustainability, and long-term shareholder value.” He noted.

    The virtual EGM recorded robust shareholder participation, with voting conducted electronically and via proxy. In compliance with statutory requirements, the Register of Members was closed from July 7 to July 10, 2025, to facilitate seamless preparations.

    The Board expressed deep appreciation to shareholders for their unwavering support and reaffirmed its commitment to expanding operational capacity, broadening its product portfolio, and deploying capital prudently to deliver consistent returns while sustaining market leadership.

    The Managing Director of Champion Breweries Plc, Dr. Inalegwu Adoga, has affirmed that the company is rapidly evolving into a dominant force in the Nigerian beverage industry.

    Adoga spoke during a consumer engagement event tagged “Drink & Win,” at Bae Arena in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

    The event, which drew thousands of enthusiastic consumers, was aimed at rewarding loyal customers and reinforcing the company’s deep connection with the people of Akwa Ibom.

    Speaking with journalists at the event, the MD shared insights into the company’s impressive financial performance and strategic direction.

    “Well in the last two years, to be specific, last year we increased our revenue by 64.5% over the previous years. We posted N7 billion in 2023 and N21 billion last year and then also increase profit after tax by 121 percent,” he said.

    He added: “Our shareholder equity almost increased by over 1 billion. Our earning per share increased from N5.10k to N9.00 to give you a sense of our financial performance. Last year was very good for us and this have not happened before.”

    On the inspiration behind the Drink & Win Bar Activation Promo, the MD emphasised the company’s firm grip on its home market and the importance of maintaining visibility and dominance in Akwa Ibom.

    “It’s necessary to make statement of dominance as we are elevate our game and optimize our momentum,” he intoned.

    He described the event as the beginning of a series of mega activations, noting that the initiative will be extended to other selling districts within the state to deepen brand visibility and consumer engagement.

    “Our product leadership in Akwa Ibom cannot be contested. Champion is the official beverage of Akwa Ibom State.     “Champion Breweries have done remarkable well in the market. In the consumer food sector in which we operate, we are the only brewery company which have done remarkable in these past years.”

    Our correspondent reports that the Drink & Win event by the proudly Nigerian brewery was a resounding success, with thousands of customers thronging the venue to enjoy their favourite Champion brands in an atmosphere charged with fun, energy, and local pride.

    Litany of prizes including T-shirts, face caps, umbrellas, live chickens, bags of rice, cooking oil, tomato paste and other exciting items were given out to winners through raffle draws. A vibrant lineup of local entertainers kept the crowd lively with music, comedy, and dance performances well into the night.

    Speaking on the significance of the event, the Marketing and Brand Manager, Champion Breweries Plc, Queen Nwabueze, reiterated the company’s commitment to delivering quality and premium taste at an affordable prices and promoting the Akwa Ibom indigenous culture.
