Chidera Ezeh resumes light training next week

FC Porto of Portugal striker, Chidera Ezeh has revealed exclusively to SportingLife that he will resume light training as part of recovery from his hamstring injury next week.

The petit Flying Eagles forward was a substitute in the African Youth Championship (AYC) second round, second leg qualifier against the Ngorongoro Heroes of Tanzania in Kaduna a fortnight ago, where he scored one of the goals but still got injured before the end of the tie.

The Nigeria Under 20 team defeated their Tanzanian counterparts 4-1 for a 6-1 aggregate victory having won the first leg 2-0 away from home.

Ezeh missed the first leg in Tanzania after he copped an injury in training before the match.

But the player informed that his treatment had been going on fine and that medics of his club, FC Porto, as well as Flying Eagles doctors had been in constant touch with him for updates on the injury.

“I will resume light training next week because I was told the injury would keep me out for only two weeks. I’ll go ahead with the next phase of the recovery from Monday. I am doing fine and I am happy that my club, FC Porto are in touch and the Flying Eagles’ doctors have not abandoned me at all. I will come back without any problem,” Ezeh, a member of the FIFA U-17-winning team to the United Arab Emirates 2013

    • Akinjide, Alfa, Bello get European suitors too

Two Portuguese giants, FC Porto and Sporting Lisbon have entered a negotiation war in their attempts to lure Golden Eaglets’ midfielder, Chidera Ezeh to their clubs.

The River Lane Academy player was on the verge of signing for FC Porto before Sporting Lisbon came into the picture and they have been granted permission to speak with Ezeh’s representatives before a decision would be reached next week.

Ezeh was in the first team of the coach Manu Garba-tutored side during the qualifiers and at the African U17 Championship before he lost his place during the FIFA U-17 World Cup in the UAE.

He, however, managed to find the back of the net once against Sweden in the Golden Eaglets’ 3-0 win in the semi finals.

Ezeh’s agent, Mohammed Babawo told SportingLife that they would listen to the offer from Sporting Lisbon first before deciding on where the Imo State-born player would be transferring to.

He also confirmed that the trio of Zaharadden Bello, Akinjide Idowu and Abdullahi Alfa were not short of offers at all. He said they were awaiting invitation letters from top clubs in Europe including Bayer Leverkusen, Atalanta, Juventus and others for the three players to act on.

    … Defeat Sweden 3-0

Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets on Tuesday qualified for the final of the FIFA U-17 World Cup taking place in United Arab Emirates.

The Manu-Garba tutored youngsters defeated their Swedish counterparts 3-0 in the second semi final played at Rashid Stadium in Dubai.

Idowu Awoniyi was the hero once again, scoring in the 21st minute to shot the three-time world champions ahead.

The Nigerians dominated possession as usual, but could not translate their superior ball artistry into much needed goals.

However, two goals in quick succession in the second half through Samuel Okon (80th minute) and Chidera Ezeh (81st minute) ended the match as a contest.

Nigeria will meet Mexico who had earlier defeated Argentina 3-0 in Friday’s tournament decider.
