“Exactly 5 years ago, on this day, at this exact time, what started like an ordinary day with bright sunshine and a beautiful weather, quickly became a nightmare. And the eventual loss of everything. The whole world is in agreement that fire is the most destructive force of nature. And that’s why most are afraid to die. The fear of hell.

“Even the Almighty God gives us a clue into this, by choosing, when angered, to use water to destroy the world, but he saved the FIRE for the END. Isn’t fire the main character in hell? So I can only imagine how it must feel, what it must feel like, to be one of the victims of the devastating destruction currently occurring in Los Angeles.

The ones who run towards the danger, and run into the scorching flames when everyone else is running in the opposite direction. The ones who, even though might have their own homes and families going through the same thing, are sworn to sacrifice themselves for the good of others. We know that you are giving 1000% of yourselves to contain the fires. We encourage you. Stay strong. Y’all are the real heroes. We salute you . God Bless you.”

The Embodiment of Humility. Since that very first day we met in 042, all those thirty-something years ago, when we were running the town with “Two-Point Entertainment”, later “Two Can Play Entertainment”, hosting campus shows and gigs at Moore House & Forum Night Club, you have remained true to yourself.

“I remember clearly,…. “I just wan sing, I just want climb stage make I entertain the people. Na the only thing wey dey make me happy.” before you got on stage that night, and boy, did you demolish the stage. I knew you were born to do this. The many many many special times we have spent together since, in different parts of the world, have reinforced your conviction and mastery. And nobody hails me, in that special way that only you do

“Sometimes, I wish you weren’t so humble. Other times, I wish we were all as humble as you. So much I want to say and could have said, as I celebrate you today, and no it’s not your birthday, but why try when I saw a post the other day by @emmaugolee who’s captures your essence way better than I could? Veteran Nollywood actor Chidi Mokeme has responded to rumours about his involvement in the sex toy business.

During an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Chidi confirmed his venture into the sex toys industry, revealing that he initiated it a few years ago and that it has been successful.

He said: ‘‘I did start a s3x toy business, and that business is one of the best out there. It’s booming, and that’s how I know. We run it the way we do because people want to keep it hidden. More than ten times, I’ve had products sell out in a single day, and the company runs out of stock just as quickly.”

Chidi also emphasized the universal character of debates about s3x, adding that it is the one thing that everyone does in the morning, whether they have an agenda or not.

He said: “What’s the topic you like talking about the most? I said s3x. When I said s3x, everyone exclaimed, s3x! I said yes, that’s exactly it. Because it’s the one thing everybody in the world agrees on. There is no ethnic divide. No religious divides, no racism. Everybody understands it. It’s the one thing that everybody sets out to do in the morning, either with an agenda or not.

Everywhere you go. Then, after I get this car contract, I’m going to buy this Range Rover. You carry Ngozi; why did you carry Ngozi? Back to the topic.

“So, everybody thinks about this topic but says nothing about it. That business is one of the best businesses. That’s how I knew, and that’s why we run it the way we do. They want to keep it hidden. But I tell you this: more than ten times I had stuff totally sold out in one day. I mean the company totally ran out of stuff in one day.

Actor Chidi Mokeme recounts ordeals with partial facial paralysis

Prominent actor Chidi Mokeme has recounted how he battled Bell’s palsy, a medical condition that causes partial facial paralysis.

Mokeme revealed that the condition led to his year-long acting hiatus.

Detailing his experience in an interview with media personality, Chude Jideonwo, the film star said he discovered he had the condition while residing in the United States.

The actor said he woke up one morning and tried to pick up his phone from his side but could not move his hands.

Mokeme said he also tried to get up from the bed but his body was not responding and his face was “drooping”.

The film star said it was at that point his wife rushed him to the hospital for treatment.

The ‘Shanty Town’ actor said the medical practitioners had thought he had a stroke but later told him it was Bell’s palsy because “the situation presents itself without a known cause”.

“This happened as I woke up on a morning. Probably, this happened in the middle of the night. Luckily for me, I was away in the US, so I was at home. So I woke up that morning; I tried to reach my phone. The mind wants to pick up the phone, but the body is not responding. It is a very confused state.

“Because I know what I want to do now, there is a side table, pick up my phone, lay in bed, and then you are stretching. In the mind, that is what you are doing, but your body is not moving,” he said.

“So I got to turn the other way. I am like, no, something is going on. It is not the phone again. I am like, when do I need to turn like that? Then my wife comes in. And she said small ‘hi good morning. Is something wrong with you?’ You know she is in the medical field. I did not see myself lying on the bed, but my face was already halfway down here – drooping.

“Then now you cannot respond. So, what I figured out is that you have lost total control of all those facial muscles. She’s like, ‘Are you having a stroke’? The hospital was already waiting outside, of course, they thought it was a stroke and did all these tests.

“… then you must have a bell’s palsy. There is no known cause, but you end up looking like you are having a stroke. A droop on your face. Then, it focuses on your face; it takes away your ability to move those muscles on your face. Which means you cannot blink at will.

“Of course, because there is no known cause, there is no known cure. First, we have to know what is causing it. In some cases, it will resolve itself naturally. In some cases, it stays permanent. In cases where it resolved itself, we have known patients who have waited 24 months, 36 months, and 48 months before they start seeing signs of improvement, and some people just get to live with it.

Mokeme said despite knowing that he had Bell’s palsy, he insisted on traveling to Lagos for a movie tour.

“The thing with Bell’s palsy is that it focuses on the face… I said that is not going to stop me. I am going to get up. That is what I could have told my brother if he came in. Do not let that stop you. You have to keep going. That is just a small distraction,” he said.

“And then I proved it to myself, right there in the hospital bed; I told my guy and said book my flight to Lagos. Change the ticket to tomorrow. The day after the palsy. I had to prove to myself. I left the next day. Got on the plane. This was happening in the middle of the tour for ’76.”

I became an actor despite my father’s disapproval – Chidi Mokeme

Popular actor Chidi Mokeme has opened up on how he chased the dream of becoming an actor despite his father’s disapproval.

He recalled how he started off as a model before incorporating acting gradually.

Mokeme explained that he had to abscond from home to focus on his acting career.

Speaking in an interview with media personality, Chude Jideonwo, the actor said: “You couldn’t even say you want to be an actor before you will hear that he (my father) didn’t want you to be an actor.

“So, I knew in my mind. I started by sneaking out to go do these things. Luckily I started off as a model. Back in the days before the home video industry, I did a lot of commercial modeling, runways, TV commercials, calendars. So it was way easier. You can go in daytime, do a quick shoot and come back home. And my father is unlikely to see it because he is not in the world of that.

“But many occasions when I came back late from shoots, he asked me to go back to wherever I was coming from. From all the sneaking out and of course, there was passion. I just knew that I was happy when I’m in this [entertainment] space.

“And I think what broke the camel’s back, eventually, I tried to read pharmacy but it wasn’t happening then I eventually went into computer science. But when I got to school, there were no computers. There was just one computer in the entire department and that computer sits on the table of the lecturer. So I left because it wasn’t interesting anymore.

“Then, I took a decision to leave home. I didn’t just pack my bags and leave, it was from all the experiences of ‘go back where you are coming from.’ I started committing more so that me dad would say I should go back to where I am coming from.”

He said his breakthrough came after he abandoned his examination to play a sub lead role.
