    D’banj upstages Chidinma on Official Naija Top Ten

    THE entertainer, D’banj has kicked Chidinma’s E Mi Ni Baller video from the number spot to number two after its two weeks reign. Also known as Banger Lee, D’Banj reached the top of the MTV Base Official Naija Top 10 with his hit video, Don’t Tell Me Nonsense.

    By the new list, Olamide and Skuki both jumped two places with the former’s Duro Soke moving to number six and Voom Va at number seven. Timaya also moves to the fifth position after two weeks on number six with Ekoloma Demba. DJ Xclusive also moves up one place to number four with No Time.

    Dammy Krane and Dr Sid have made it to the charts this week with Dammy’s Xteristics making an appearance at number nine and Talented by Dr Sid coming up last.

    Popular Tattoo-faced DJ Sose joins VJ Ehis in the studio to go through the charts as well as carefully analyse some of the biggest names rocking the Nigeria music scene.

    Chidinma still balling on MTV Base

    LAST week, she emerged the first female artiste to ever make the number one spot on the MTV Base Official Naija Top 10, but graceful songstress, Chidinma, is showing signs of not leaving any time soon.

    With the stunning video for E Mi Ni Baller, which was shot by Clarence Peters, in this week’s episode, DJ Neptune joins VJ Ehis in the studio to run through the week’s top bosses in the Naija music scene on the Official Naija Top 10.

    D’Banj moves into number 2 spot with Don’t Tell Me Nonsense while P-Square’s Personally drops one place to number 4, giving way for Burna Boy who moves up one place to number 3 with Run My Race.

    Staying put are Timaya at number 6 with Ekoloma Demba and DJ Xclusive at number 5 with No Time.

    The Official Naija Top 10, powered by Star Music, is put together by a panel of judges comprising Nigerian broadcasters, music specialists and tastemakers, working with MTV Base to pick the winners and losers in the week’s chart. On the panel are Onos Ovueraye, DJ Humility, DJ Jimmy Jatt, DJ Xclusive, Big Time, DJ Caise, Toolz and Osagie Alonge of Nigerian Entertainment Today.

    THE annual Channel O Africa Music Awards is in its 10th year and organisers have announced the opening of nominations. According to information, nominees in the 14 categories include multiple double nods for over 10 artistes, from East, West and Southern Africa, reflecting the outpouring of world-class music videos on the continent over the past year.

    Among the nominees this year are South Africa’s Oskido (“TsaMandebele” for Most Gifted African Southern), Zimbabwe’s Buffalo Souljah (Basawine for Most Gifted Ragga Dancehall Video), and Mozambique’s Lizha James (VaisRochar with Anselmo Ralph for Most Gifted Female).

    With her music Watch My Ting Go, Nigeria’s Lola Rae is representing the country as one of the five contenders in the Most Gifted Newcomer category. Also in that category is Burna Boy with the song, Tonight.

    Nigeria’s PSquare prove their ongoing popularity with the nomination of Alingo for the Most Gifted Video of the Year as well as Most Gifted African West.

    The Most Gifted Male category has Botswana’s Zeus featuring AKA and Tumi, Nigeria’s Iyanya (Flavour) and Wizkid (Azonto), South Africa’s Donald and Tanzania’s Ay featuring Marco Chali.

  • Chidinma is best female West African Act

    MTN Project Fame West Africa reality show winner in 2011 Chidinma Ekile has emerged the Best Female West African Act.

    She received the honour at the 2012 edition of Kora Awards which held last Sunday, in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

    Chidinma’s victory came through her hit song ‘Kedike’. The song which is her second single, defeated Omawumi’s ‘If you ask me’ and five other entries from top African female acts.

    Another Nigerian, David Adeleke, otherwise called ‘Davido’, clinched the Best Male Newcomer category at the event.

    However, the event was not in favour of Nigeria’s D’Banj, Clarence Peters and the Infinity Group who were nominated in the Best Male African act, Best Director and Best Gospel group categories respectively.

    The show featured US rapper Chris Brown, as headliner act.

    The artiste attended the event with Rihanna, his current lover.

    Also present at the award was Nigeria’s pop duo, P-Square, who rendered their usual energetic performance
