    May 29: Ex-Minister greets Tinubu, urges Nigerians to key into Renewed Hope Agenda

    A former Minister of State for Science and Technology, Chief Henry Ikoh, has felicitated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the second year anniversary of of his administration.

    He called on Nigerians to key into the president’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

    Chief Ikoh, in a statement he personally signed in Abuja on Wednesday, also called on the people of the southeast to join hands with President Tinubu in his (Tinubu’s) efforts to transform the region.

    While reacting to Tinubu’s May 29th address to Nigerians on the state of the economy, security, infrastructural development and Oil subsidy issues, Ikoh appraised the president’s courage in admitting the obvious and mapping out cushioning effects as counter measures to challenges facing his administration’s policy .

    Ikoh said that some of the policies of the government might be negatively be impacting on Nigerians, they have been designed to reposition the country to the path of growth and development.

    “Let me use this auspicious moment to felicitate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the occasion of his second year in office as the fifth democratically elected leader since the commencement of the current Fourth Republic which has spanned 26 unbroken years, the longest in the nation’s history.

    “The coming on board of President Tinubu has brought with it so much hope in the sense that many hard policies, which would be needed to reposition the country that past leaders have refused to take are being taken to help rework the country to the path of development and growth.

    “Though, I admit that the people are bearing the brunt of some of the moves being carried out now but I know that they (the policies) would turn out well for us all and going by recent reports coming from relevant institutions, we are beginning to see the fruits of the reforms and I urge Nigerians to be patient,” he said.

    The former minister urged the people of the Southeast to join the prevailing political mainstream in the country as a means of benefiting from the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government whom he praised for making concerted efforts to develop the region.

    He listed some of the achievements of the current government to include the setting up and proper funding of the South East Development Commission (SEDevCOM), massive infrastructure upgrade as well more appointment of people from the region into key institution of government as some of the gains the region has secured from the current government.

    “While felicitating with President Bola Tinubu, I also use this opportunity to call on our people in the Southeast region not just to join the APC but to also key into the Renewed Hope Agenda. By doing this, our collective interest would be guaranteed,” Ikoh said.

    Abia 2027: I’m still consulting, says ex-Minister of Science

    A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Minister of State for Science, Technology and Innovation, Chief Henry Ikoh has debunked declaring interest to run for the 2027 governorship seat in Abia State.

    Reports had it that Chief Ikoh, had in a key stakeholder’s meeting with members of the APC in his country home, Ahuwa Oboro, Ikwuano Local Government Area of the state indicated that he might join the race for the governorship seat of state if the opportunity arises.

    Sources in the party in Ikwuano disclosed that the former minister who had previously contested for the governorship seat of the state, suggested that he would consider running again should the political terrain favor such a move.

    Our correspondent reports that the rumours that the former Minister had declared interest to run for governorship generated argument over his chances of emerging the APC governorship candidate as the reports have it that the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu will be in the 2027 governorship race.

    The Nation reports that politicians in the state who aspire for various political positions in 2027, have started various political engagements, including consultations with critical stakeholders in the party from ward level to the state, ahead of the parties primaries and among others.

    However, when contacted, Chief Ikoh in an exclusive telephone interview with our correspondent disassociated himself from reports making the rounds that he had declared his interest to run for the governorship seat in the state.

    According to him, “I have not told anybody that I am running (for governorship position).

    “The time is still very early for anybody to declare his or her interest (for any political position). “

    “Many people, including different groups, have been urging me to come and run because of the confidence that they have in me.

    “But I told them that I am still consulting with God. I will consult with my family and critical stakeholders of the party before I will make my intention known.”

    Asked if he thinks that he has the capacity to govern the state if the opportunity comes, Chief Ikoh said “Somebody who has served as a federal minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has the capacity to be the President also, but I have not said anything yet.

    “I have tried to be governor in my state three times in the past and in service to humanity, if the opportunity comes and I am to serve my people in that capacity.”
