  • 2019: ‘Voting against Buhari means going back to bondage’

Chief Olusola Oke, Southwest Director of the Buhari/Osinbajo Campaign Organisation for the 2019 presidential election, says not voting for President Muhammadu Buhari denotes backwardness.

Oke said this while receiving members of Buhari/Osinbajo Strategic Solidarity Movement (BOSSEM) on Wednesday in Akure.

“Voting for candidate apart from President Buhari come 2019, is like the Israelites going back to Egypt but in APC we are focused on Canaan by supporting Buhari.

“Mr President is the real project and APC has a way of finding solutions to its problems, so, that is not a problem. We will all work together,” he said.

Aside the internal crises within the party, Chief Oke who is a two time governorship candidate in the state, said the major challenge of next general election was for Nigerians to make the right choice.

He assured the movement that the opposing camps within the party would work for the re-election of Mr President.

The campaign director dispelled political insinuations that the internal crises within the the party would affect the second term bid of the president in the South West.

“My primary work is to bring everybody together: the aggrieved and non-aggrieved to have a good showing.

“We need everybody, so whosoever is aggrieved; we will make appeal to them. I am happy about one thing: Whosoever is aggrieved will still work for our President.

“The Yoruba people are very sophisticated politically. Their place in the last election is crucial and critical and it’s going to be same in this election.

“We have our own options and we have weighed the options and at this level, the option of Buhari has no alternative and that is why we are going for him. No doubt, there are challenges,” he said.

According to him, the challenges of what the present administration has been facing for the past three and half years are to lay a new foundation for the growth of the country.

“The super-structure is yet to come. It is now our responsibility as Nigerians to make sure the solid foundation is not destroyed so that the superstructure can be put on it.

“To achieve this is not going to be an easy job, but we are fortified in our belief by the existence of the various groups, that also care about the future.

“Therefore, whatever challenges that we have are not insurmountable and I can assure you, we have put our hands on deck and we are not going to look back,” he assured.

Oke, alongside the BOSSEM Coordinator, Femi Bamisile, who is a former Speaker of Ekiti House of Assembly, pledged to deliver the six states in the South West region for the ruling APC next month.

“We will do everything that is humanly and legally possible to ensure that South West takes its place of pride in the return of Mr President to power on May 29, 2019,” he said.(NAN)

    Oke concedes defeat, congratulates Akeredolu

The Gubernatorial Candidate of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) in Ondo State, Chief Olusola Oke Monday congratulated Mr Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) of the All Peoples Congress (APC) who won last Saturday’s election.

However,he decried the ‘heavy monetization’ of the election process which produced him.

Oke who addressed reporters in his Ijapo Estate, Akure residence commended both the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the security agents deployed to the State for being fair in the handling of their duties but regretted that the open and free use of money to purchase votes during the election by the ruling parties remains a sad commentary on the nation’s electoral process.

This development, according to him, required the urgent intervention by government if the much publicized anti-corruption agenda of the Federal Government must have meaning to Nigerians.

His words: “in the last seven years, the policy direction of the government of the day (in Ondo State) has resulted in the growth and circulation of poverty to our people.

“The resultant effect is the debilitating poverty that had made the people so vulnerable. Therefore, trading away dignity in the face of excruciating hunger during electioneering process requires little or no considerations for morals and values that defined us as a people.

“The open and free use of money to purchase votes, during the election by the ruling parties remains a sad commentary on our electoral process. This requires urgent intervention by government if the much publicized anti-corruption agenda of the Federal Government must have meaning to Nigerians.

“Offer of money for votes is worse than looting the government treasury. Apart from compromising the dignity of the people, it provides a fertile training ground for future looters of government treasury. The consequence of it is to render the anti-corruption fight a farce.

“There may be no economic matter more urgent, difficult to unravel and more sensitive to the pursuit of the average person in Ondo State than the current indignity foisted on the people by poverty orchestrated by maladministration and priority misplacement by the current administration. We hope the incoming administration will address the problem of poverty so that the integrity of our electoral process will be restored.”

While noting that from the observation of the people of Ondo State, they appear confused and unsure of what would follow the immediate satisfaction from the naira handout received in consideration of the votes cast.

“They appear wondering whether the votes they delivered Saturday would restore light, revive dead industries, complete the uncompleted ones, give hundreds of thousands of unemployed graduates employment, pay arrears of salary to workers and guarantee regular payment of salary; whether their votes will make water to flow again in their unused and rusted water pipes, reduce dust on our roads, revive our education and health sectors and so on,” he stated.

Oke, who recalled the event leading to his and his followers’ movement to the AD, said the movement was necessitated by the need for “us as democrats and conscience of the people to shun the in-built perfidy and organized deception in APC as revealed during its primary election.

“We moved to AD less than six weeks before the gubernatorial election. We knew it was a big challenge and the greatest challenge was time. But we were determined in the pursuit of our dream.

“We know how bad the situation is and we are aware that the art of governance is difficult and complex, especially during trying times. The steep reduction in global oil prices from over 120 dollars per barrel to roughly 30 dollars and the huge debt profile of Ondo State present a hard challenge that requires a prepared mind and experienced hands in the saddle. We are convinced that we can no longer afford past practices.

That was the compelling re-occurring issue that defined our struggle. We thank the people of Ondo State who believed in the struggle of Alliance for Democracy and its candidate, Chief Olusola Oke.

“Ondo State requires economic re-engineering, creative reform, materially changing the substance of its economic policy as well as the objectives of that policy in a way that the economic well-being of the people will be restored again. Therein lies the essence of progressive democratic governance and that is what our party, the Alliance for Democracy stands for.

“ The incoming government therefore must urgently address the issue of ravaging poverty in the state through: Industrialization; Job/Wealth Creation; Rural Integration; Infrastructural Development; Security,”

He, therefore, assured that as members of the opposition, the AD shall continue to contribute to the process of governance and would not hesitate to point, in a civilized manner, the attention of the incoming government to any area where the masses seem not to have been considered in the policy framework of governance.

“We shall voice our opinion whenever we believe any member of the incoming government strayed from the progressive calling required of the administration,” he posited.

Oke congratulated the governor-elect, Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN and wish him success and praying to God to guide him “as he directs the affairs of our dear state.”

Ondo decides: AD accuses APC, PDP of manipulating polls

The Alliance for Democracy (AD) in Ondo State on Saturday alleged that both the All Peoples Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) made good their threats to rig and win this election at all cost by embarking spate of intimidation, heavy monetization and outright manipulation of the ballot materials in the on-going election in the State.

The spokesperson of the Olusola Oke campaign Organization, Mr Bisi Kolawole in a statement disclosed that it was unfortunate that the APC, whose mantra of a complete change to a corruption-free Nigeria was now the very apostle of corruption, intimidation and outright manipulation of votes by heavily monetizing the voting processes in the election.

His words: “They have threatened to win this election at all cost and they have demonstrated the willingness to make their prediction come true. Our leaders were brutalised and hounded out of their homes in order to scare them and their supporters from the polling booths, they have brought in loads and loads of money to buy votes due to the pangs of hunger which they brought unto the people.

“Yet, they say they are fighting corruption. Again, the PDP too have been attacking us including our Candidate, Chief Olusola Oke, they are now buying votes in the full glare of all shamelessly to continue pillaging the State.

“From all over the State reports have it that cases of electoral manipulations are on-going, the PVC cards readers are not functioning properly and appears to have been compromised as they show figures different what are usually recorded in the accreditation exercise.

“In Kiribi town Ese Odo local government, the hometown of the APC Deputy governor candidate, Mr Agboola Ajayi, leaders and members of the AD were chased out of their home to prevent them from voting and scaring their supporters away. Indeed, a former caretaker Chairman of the local government and also native of Kiribo, Mr Akin Sowore narrowly escaped being arrested by armed men in police and army uniforms who stormed his home in the community at exactly 1;30 am and up till the end of the election, these security men were harassing the electorate and chasing them from the polling units

“In Supare, in Akoko South West local government which is the hometown of Mr Victor Olabintan, the Director General of the Rotimi Akeredolu Campaign Organisation, thugs loyal to him prevented members and supporters of the AD and other parties from voting in Unit 6, Ward 10, where he usually votes. They completely surrounded the polling booth ensuring that nobody voted for another party save APC aside chasing away all known AD members.

“In Akure, specifically Ward 5, Units 17 and 18 situated inside the Alagbaka Primary School, the Special Assistant to Governor Mimiko, Mrs Taye Afilaka, was initially arrested by the police and taken away for electoral infractions only to resurface about two hours later with money which they started sharing out in the full glare of security agents to anybody willing to vote for the PDP. In Unit 23, Ward 10, Akure South local government area, the State Chairman of the Okada riders association, one Ojo Obabi led his thugs in thump-printing  ballot papers with the aim of swapping them with those from the polling units later.”

The AD, while commending the resolve of the people to vote for it candidate, Chief Olusola Oke, urged them remain calm and not to be intimidated by those which it described as men of straws saying that in the end, the will of the people would prevail.

PDP, SDP, AA members defect to AD in Ondo.

Ahead of saturday’s governorship election in Ondo state, scores of members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP) and Action Alliance (AA) on Tuesday joined the Alliance for Democracy (AD) in Ondo state.

The defectors said the decision to dump their former parties was based on their conviction that only the AD government could rescue the state from the hopelessness currently being experienced by the people of the state.

They were received into the AD by the party’s governorship candidate in Saturday’s election, Chief Olusola Oke, at his campaign grand finale at the Democracy Park, Akure, the state capital.

The AA national secretary, Kenneth Eze, announced the collapsed of the party’s structure in the state into the AD.

The governorship candidate of the party, Yinka Orokoto, also declared that he had stepped down for the AD standard bearer.
Leading the PDP defectors was a two-term member of the House of Assembly, Hon. Akindele Adeniyi.

The former PDP members including the two-term lawmaker representing Akure North Constituency,Akindele Adeniyi explained the party had collapsed in the state, saying the only option for them was the AD.

The AD national chairman, Chief Joseph Avazi, called on people of the state to vote for the candidate of the party in the election.

Avazi said the AD government would serve the state, adding that only the party could ensure the desired change.

Oke, who warned against any attempt to manipulate the poll, however, said that the Resident Electoral Commissioner in state, Segun Agbaje, had given assurance that the wish of the people would prevail.

The AD candidate urged people of the state to come out to vote for him and his running mate, Hon. Gani Dauda, on the Election Day.

He said: “We’ve came to repair. We’re  also come to prevent further destruction of the good legacies of our former leaders.

“There are electric poles but no light. There are boreholes but no water. There are graduates but no jobs. This is unacceptable. It is on this note that that AD has come to restore the glory of the state.

“Our economy will be revived. AD government will eradicate poverty. We shall build on what Papa Ajasin, Chief Adefarati and Dr. Agagu built. Our mission is to create wealth and generate employment.”

Also the Iyaloja-General of Ondo state,Mrs Folasade Ojo urged her members to come out and vote massively for Oke on saturday.

She said market men and women would benefit more under the government of Olusola Oke,who she described as transparent and humble,if elected.

The Director- General (DG) Olusola Oke Campaign Organisation (OOCO) Bola Ilori warned the APC mafia boasting of rigging the coming election to desist in order to prevent anarchy in the state regarded as politically volatile.

Oke hails Ondo people, says he won’t disappoint them

The Olusola Oke Campaign Organisation has on behalf of the Candidate of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) Chief Olusola Oke and his deputy, Alhaji Ganny Dauda thanked the people of Ondo State for their show of solidarity for trooping out en-mass to witness the presentation of the AD flags and official presentation to the people during the flag off rally in Akure on Monday.

The Director General of the Campaign Organisation, Mr Bola Ilori, while expressing Oke’s profound gratitude to the people for the unprecedented crowd that thronged the Democracy Park, Akure venue of the epoch making event assured the people that Chief Oke would not disappoint when he assumes office as Governor.

His words:” We want to sincerely thank you all good people of Ondo State for your love, affection and show of solidarity before during and after the flag off. We are simply overwhelmed that you all in your scores braved the hot sun to show solidarity for your son, Chief Olusola Oke.

“As he (Oke) has assured you, he will not fail you, he will deliver on his promises; under his watch, Ondo State will fare better. Rest assured that he will make life abundant for all and sundry.”

While reacting to the destruction of the billboards, banners and posters of Chief Oke by miscreants loyal to the Olusegun Mimiko faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) moments after the Flag off ended, Ilori described the act as an admission of failure by the ruling Party.

He warned those behind the dastard act not to take the people of Ondo State for granted saying if they do not desist, they would meet their waterloo.

Also, reacting to the insinuations by the All Peoples Congress (APC) that the AD rented crowd to grace its flag off rally, the DG urged them to wait till November 26, 2016 when reality will dawn on them after losing the election.

“We will not dignify them with any response other than to say that the people of have chosen Olusola Oke and this they have demonstrated by turning out in an unprecedented crowd hitherto unknown in the annals of this state.

“This is why they are afraid and has made the Olusola Oke their sole manifesto instead of canvassing for votes from the people as the AD is vigorously doing in Ondo State,” he posited.

  • New jostling for Deputy Governorship ticket in Ondo

Ahead of the November 26 governorship poll in Ondo state, some political parties among the 28 participants in the poll are in the process of selecting their deputy governorship candidates.

Among the parties, only the Alliance for Democracy (AD) with, Chief Olusola Oke as its candidate have picked its running mate in person of the former lawmaker representing Akoko Northeast/Northwest Federal Constituency, Ganny Dauda.

Dauda is a former governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) like Oke, the duo dumped the party following the post-primary crisis.

The former President, Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) was declared the winner of the primary election which was rejected by three frontline aspirants including Segun Abraham, Olusola Oke and Ajayi Boroffice.

The Election Appeal Committee had earlier recommended the cancellation of the shadow election because of alleged malpractices, while majority members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC ratified the decision of the Appeal Committee to conduct fresh primaries, but the National Chairman of the party overruled it and submitted Akeredolu’s name as the APC candidate.

Since then, peace has eluded the progressive party in Ondo state. Aggrieved aspirants such as Oke had dumped the party, Abraham is now seeking redress in court to reclaim what he called his ‘Stolen Mandate’.

Akeredolu’s name has been submitted with that of former PDP lawmaker representing Ilaje/Ese-Odo,Agboola Ajayi as his running mate.

The one-time National Assembly Member who is from Southern District and a particular community where the mother of the candidate,Akeredolu hails from, political analysts believed must be a surrogate used by the APC flag bearer to meet the INEC’s deadline.

Truly as being contended, the APC in the state has set up a five-man committee saddled with the responsibility of screening the Deputy Governorship aspirants to become the running mate to Akeredolu.

The Committee is chaired by the only female governorship aspirant of the party, Mrs Jumoke Anifowose.

Three governorship aspirants of the  September 3,shadow election including Tunji Abayomi, Victor Olabimtan and Ayo Akinyelure are also members with Bankole Oluwajana, Dr A.Shaba and Wale Akinterinwa.

They are to screen the aspirants and shortlist the best among them to run with Akeredolu (SAN).

Those interested in the position apart from that of Agboola Ajayi are mostly from the Southern and Central District.

The aspirants are 19 in number out of which 13 are from the South while the rest six are from the Central.

The APC candidate,Akeredolu is from Owo in the Northern district.

Prominent among the aspirants are the United Kingdom (UK) based lawyer, Bolaji Odidi, Lucky Ayedatiwa, Sam Aderoboye, APC spokesman, Omo’ba  Abayomi Adesanya, Boye Adegbemisoye, a former Chairman of Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government and Commissioner for Public Utilities.

Also on the screening list are,Ifedayo Abegunde, former House of Representatives representing Akure South/ North Federal Constituency and Ade Adetimehin, the incumbent APC Deputy state Chairman among others

For Peoples Democratic Party(PDP)its candidate,Eyitayo Jegede has not picked his governorship candidate, but he may emerge from the Northern District.

Other political parties have sent the names of their deputy governorship candidates to to INEC,but most of the names are still are unknown politicians.

The names of the Deputy Governorship candidates for Social Democratic Party(SDP)is John Owoso,Peoples Democratic Party(PDP)which will soon be replaced is Olumide Ogunje, African Peoples Alliance (APA) Owoeye Jonathan, Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) Paul Oluwasesan, All Progressives Congress (APC) Agboola Ajayi (tentative) Labour Party (LP) Akinbamire Benson,Citizen Popular Party (CPP) Owolabi Yusuf and Peoples Party of Nigeria (PPN) Onisemo Oladapo.

Others are Democratic Peoples Congress (DPC) Emilere Akinlose,Democratic People Party (DPP)Lawrence Festus,New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) Dr Babafemi Famakinwa,Hope Democratic Party (HDP) Oladutire Ronke,National Unity Party (NUP) Ojo Oladapo, Better Nigeria Progressive Party (BNPP) Olajobi Olalekan, Young Democratic Party(YDP)Egbeola Martins and Accord Party(A).

The rest are All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Yaya Olasehinde, Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA), Oladele Bamitale,African Democratic Congress (ADC) Aganmayo Iseoluwa, Action Alliance (AA), Biola Ojo, Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) Omopekun John, Independent Democrats (ID) Famuagun Moses, Kowa Party (KP) Alhaja Fausat Aliu, Peoples For Democratic Change (PDC) Olatunji Segun, Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN) Ikusika Olanike, United Democratic Party(UDP) Olasupo Wasiu and National Conscience Party (NCP), Owolabi Stephen.

It is observed that most of the names are unknown in the politics of the sunshine state, they are mostly surrogates to fill the list.

But the real running mates would emerge latest October 19 when INEC must have released the final list of the candidates and their running mates.

Meanwhile, the Alliance for Democracy(AD)has appointed the former Special Adviser to Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun state,Hon Bola Ilori as Director General,Olusola Oke Campaign Organisation, while the former Speaker,Victor Olabimtan who is a governorship aspirant is appointed the Director General to Rotimi Akeredolu Campaign Organisation of the APC.

  • Why I lost 2012 governorship election – Oke

Why I lost 2012 governorship election – Oke

A governorship aspirant for the forthcoming governorship election in Ondo state, Chief Olusola Oke said Monday that whether or not he is given the mandate to fly the party’s ticket, he will work for the success of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the November election.

Oke also said he lost the 2012 governorship election in the state to irregularities which include the availability of about 120,000 fake voters which he said was proven at the Supreme Court.

Speaking after obtaining his nomination form at the APC secretariat on Monday,  he said every indices on ground in the state suggests that the people of the state were eagerly waiting for the APC to redeem it from the clutches of oppression which they have been subjected to in the last eight years.

He dismiss believe that the deluge of aspirants in the party was dividing the party, saying “Our party is very lucky to have so many aspirants in Ondo state. As the last count, about 18 have so far collected the nomination form and I am aware that many others are coming. That is a lot of lesion for our party and it shows that those desiring change in Ondo state are very many and the voices are very loud.”

He said further that “Ondo state has no reason to be where it is today. We have the longest coast line, the richest forestry in Nigeria, the richest mineral resources, the bitumen is second to the largest in the world, we are oil producing and we have all mineral resources.

“The Human Resources is in abundance. Ondo state therefore has no reason to be poor. Unfortunately, in the last seven years, we have been misruled and misguided by a leadership without vision, direction or mission. The consequence of this is that the cherished value of unity, inter girth and pride has been lost.

“My mission is to arrest the drift and turn around our economy which used to be a civil service economy. Even the civil service has no capacity anymore to service the economy with six months salaries unpaid. This translates to an economy that is totally castrated.

“I believe that the many projects in Ondo state which has been abandoned, if turned around will transform economy of the state. A tidal example is the Olokola project which has been abandoned, the cassava processing factory, and many others. My mission immediately revives these projects and completes them so that we can diversify our economy.”

He accused the Mimiko government of abandoning the road map of development initiated by previous administrations in the state, beginning from Chief Ajasin to Adefarati and Agagu have all been abandoned. I intend to revive this road map to ensure that education which used to be our pride is revived. Today, Ondo state has lost its pride of place in education.
He said further that “In 2009, when Dr Olusegun Agagu was leaving the saddle of power, he N38 billion in the coffer of Ondo state which was unprecedented anywhere in Nigeria. Today,we are down with N108 billion indebtedness. It takes a man of vision, a man that has the grace of God and the fear of God to be able to pilot the affairs of Ondo state.

“I want to create the enabling environment that can attract private investors to Ondo state end you cannot do that without infrastructure. We will also engender a policy that will create wealth for our people so that we can lost those values we have lost.

“The people of Ondo state are looking up to APC because it is the only hope for the people because they cannot trust the leadership of a party that has held them hostage for eight years running.

“In 2012, about 120,000 illegal voters were in the voters register and this was proven at the Supreme Court. The election was characterized by a lot of unfairness and the people of Ondo state are wiser for it.

“I told them that this government will impoverish them and will not do anything during the second term and the testimonies are very clear for everybody. What us standing between me and the government house is the ticket of APC. Once I get the ticket, I am governor of Ondo state”.

Asked if he will work for any candidate who emerged winner if he failed to secure the ticket, Oke said “I believe that I am the best candidate in the race. As a Christian, I have heard that power belongs to God and He gives it to whom He pleases. If at the end of the day the delegates takes a decision and it is not me, I will work for the APC.”

On cases of inconclusive elections in recent times, he said “I am aware of the provisions of the electoral act that states that where an election has been conducted and there remain units where votes did not take place and the number of registered voters in that unit are such that may affect the outcome of the election if they had voted, the election should be inconclusive and that what is guiding INEC in their decisions.

“I am not expecting such to happen in Ondo state, but if it happens, the law will prevail. But I am not praying for inconclusive election because it can be very frustrating and very challenging. But that is the law at the moment, until it is amended; we have to play it according to the law.”

In a tribute, Akintelure eulogised his mum, saying: “The main difference between my mother and God is that my mother did not create me. She was everything to me. To my fellow citizens, I want them to learn from the good life of this woman, the kind of life my mother lived was a life of good attributes. She trained her children well, she was very good at morals and above all she served God.”
