•Governor lauds Mbaise’s unity at Iri Iji festival

Governor Rochas Okorocha’s Chief of Staff, Uche Nwosu, was Wednesday conferred with the highest title in Mbaise nation by the Mbaise Council of Ndi-Eze.

Nwosu was decorated with the title of Ugwumba Oha Nile of Mbaise during the annual Iri Iji Mbaise festival.

Chairman of Mbaise Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Leo Nwokocha, who conferred the title on Nwosu, said the governorship aspirant has become both a friend and son to Mbaise people. He urged him never to forget Mbaise people at any given time.

The monarch explained that they considered many factors before they decided to honour Nwosu with such a befitting title, saying the action was done in the interest of Imo State and Mbaise people in particular.

He was happy that Nwosu accepted the offer. Nwosu, in his response, said: “For the people of Mbaise to honour me with the Ugwumba Oha Nile shows how they take me.”

He said he has accepted to be both friend and son to Mbaise people, and promised to never forget them either now or in the future.

Governor Rochas Okorocha, who also attended the festival, noted that the people showed their love for him by voting for him in 2011 and 2015.

The governor, however, regretted that the few political cabals in the area manipulated the election results.

  • Philanthropist honoured with chieftaincy title

    Philanthropist honoured with chieftaincy title

The traditional honour of Ukpaka na AgbaluOra I of Aguleri that was bestowed on Chief Joseph Ukeji, the Chairman/CEO of Ejison Group of Companies, by His Royal Majesty Eze C.N. Idigo (Ogalagidi II) and traditional ruler of Aguleri, is truly a befitting one for an accomplished businessman and an undisputed philanthropist.

Touching lives positively in our society can be described as the trademark of Chief Joseph I. Ukeji. He is an epitome of humility and as a true Christian; he abides by the Biblical admonition of not allowing your left hand to know what your right hand is giving as an offering.

A research into the lifestyle of Chief Ukeji, fondly called Chimalunzu by his admirers, revealed that he has empowered a lot of people in our society and that many of them are doing well in their various businesses. He is a silent achiever and one of the most successful businessmen in Igbo land. He built his business success foundation with truth and hard work.

His business partners describe him as a reliable man whose word is his bond. He does not abuse business opportunities, rather he utilises them very well. He is also not a trouble-maker hence the reason he does not like treading on trouble paths. He is a lover of good governance and that is the reason he gave Governor Obiano overwhelming support in the last governorship election.

He is not a government contractor but supported the governor during the last governorship election because of the good works the governor is doing in Anambra State. In a chat with him at his G.R.A. Onitsha residence, he revealed that he had already concluded arrangements on relocating his business from Anambra State to Lagos State because of insecurity during the administration of Mr. Peter Obi but that he changed his mind when Governor Obiano’s administration security initiatives started yielding fruitful results.

He stated that security is the bedrock of sustainable development and that any government that ensured the security of lives and properties of the people deserves commendation.

Chief Ukeji as a businessman is always focused on doing the right thing for the progress of his business and he abhors anything that will soil his hard-earned reputation. He has made giant strides in the business world. He obviously succeeded in a terrain where many failed because as a child of God, he put God first in everything he does.

He always credits his business successes to the good work of God in his life and the support of his amiable wife, Lady Loretta Ukeji (Adadioranma of Oraukwu).

At this juncture, permit me to humbly use this medium to reel off Chief Ukeji profile.

Chief Ukeji (KSM), was born 58 years ago to the Ukeji family in Ottah Village of Oraukwu community in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

He had his primary education at Obianazonwu Memorial Primary School now Holy Trinity Primary School, Onitsha. His higher education was cut short due to the early death of his father. He did not allow his father’s early death to weigh him down, rather he trudged on like a Spartan to achieve success in a world where many failed on flimsy excuse.

Chief Ukeji had his business tutelage under his maternal uncle, Chief Andrew, Ichie Diji I of Oraukwu.

After the apprenticeship, he began his own business in Onitsha with N4, 000 as a textile merchant. His love and quest for education made him to combine business and pursuit of education.

He has attended various business seminars and courses locally and internationally. He has built a successful business conglomerate in Nigeria known as Ejison Group of Companies. The firms are into oil and gas, manufacturing and consumer goods. He is an Ozo title holder from Oraukwu and not known with the habit of accepting traditional title offers from traditional rulers.

He accepted the chieftaincy honour of Ukpaka na-Agbalu Ora I of Aguleri because of his love for Governor Obiano and also because of his respect for Aguleri traditional institution as the cradle of Igbo race.

Chief Ukeji is married to Lady Loretta Ukeji and they have children. A lot of people have benefited from his philanthropic gestures. Because of his benevolence, he has been honoured with several awards.

He has an undying love for empowering the less-privileged. Based on these, His Royal Majesty Eze C. N. Idigo and the entire Aguleri Royal Cabinet were right in their decision to bestow the chieftaincy honour of Ukpaka na-Agbalu Ora on Chief Ukeji.

The honour is an encouragement to him for all his philanthropic gestures towards the development of our society. Chief Ukeji has done a lot to better the lives of the less-privileged individuals in the society and he deserves all the accolades and honours he received as a result of his kindness to his people. More power to his elbows.

The new kings said the Olubadan did not inform them about the conferment, as prescribed by the laid down rules and regulations of the traditional council.

They added that it was not obligatory for them to attend.

Asked about the implication of their absence at the installation ceremony, the kings said it would mean the Olubadan is “acting alone”.

Speaking on behalf of the council, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who is also the Balogun of Ibadan, said: “It is a mere honorific chieftaincy title. On the implication, it will only not be as interesting as it should be. As far as we are concerned, he (Olubadan) is acting alone because we are not invited to the ceremony. We don’t know anything about the installation ceremony and we won’t be there.”

The Director of Media and Public Affairs to the Olubadan, Mr Adeola Oloko, confirmed that the monarch will honour the minister with the title on Friday.

Asked if members of the council were invited, Oloko said: “They are free to come.”

The Olubadan and nine council members who have been crowned have been avoiding each other since the elevation of the latter.

They no longer sit at the first-class monarch’s palace for council meetings.

While the Olubadan rules from his palace with the support of the Osi Olubadan, former Governor Rashidi Ladoja, the nine new obas meet at Mapo Hall for their meetings.

  • Sani-Bello rejects chieftaincy title

Niger State Governor Abubakar Sani Bello yesterday rejected the traditional title of Majin Borgu from the Emir of Borgu, Alhaji Mohammed Dantoro Kintoro IV.
He said he would not take a chieftaincy title while in office.
Bello, who made his stand known in New Bussa when Emir Dantoro announced the conferment of the title on him, said he would know if he performed well to deserve a chieftaincy title after his tenure in office.
According to him, as a serving governor, he was like a student looking forward to his overall performance. He pleaded with the monarch to hold all activities regarding the title.

Emir Dantoro said the conferment of the Majin Borgu on the governor was not political but in recognition of his contribution to the peace of the emirate.
He listed the duties of Majin Borgu to include holding and watching over the treasure of the chiefdom.
