    CHAN Eagles skipper Chima Akas has returned to Enyimba pending his move overseas.
    “I am in the Enyimba camp now in Calabar preparing ahead of the new season,” disclosed the experienced left-back.
    “I just want to play football that is why I returned to my club. I can’t stay at home waiting for a deal.
    “I know I will travel, but I cannot tell you the exact time. I am not in a hurry, I believe at the appointed time of God I will leave.”
    Former Shooting Stars ace Akas is believed to be close to a move to a Turkish club.

    CAF Champions League: Chima Akas cleared for Enyimba

    CHAN Eagles skipper Chima Akas has been cleared by the League Management Company (LMC) to feature for Nigeria champions Enyimba in both the league and CAF Champions League.

    AfricanFootball.com specially gathered that the international defender’s transfer to Akwa United has been cancelled.

    “Akas will now play for Enyimba,” simply disclosed Akas UK-based agent Femi Olaniran.

    This decision followed a decision involving the player, his representatives, LMC officials as well as officials of Shooting Stars and Enyimba in Abuja on Tuesday.

    Last season, the much-sought after leftback featured for Sharks and in the off-season he was linked with Sunshine Stars with Akwa United later announcing his acquisition.

    He has already been registered for this year’s Champions League.

    Nigeria champions Enyimba on Friday announced the signing of home-based Super Eagles skipper, Chima Akas.

    Enyimba announced Akas acquisition on its official website.

    Akas led Nigeria to the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Rwanda, where the team failed to go past the group stage, africanFootball.com reports.

    He has featured for Sharks and Shooting Stars and was linked with Sunshine Stars last season.

    Two-time African champions Enyimba will feature in this year’s CAF Champions League.

    Nigeria will win CHAN – Akas

    Super Eagles skipper to the 2016 CHAN, Chima Akas, has promised to lead Nigeria to victory in Rwanda.

    This year’s edition of CHAN, the tournament reserved for players featuring in their respective home leagues, begins on January 16 and Nigeria plays in Group C with Tunisia, Niger and Guinea, africanFootball.com reports.

    The team opens its campaign on January 18 against next-door neighbours Niger.

    Akas, who has been capped at full international level by Nigeria, has assumed the CHAN Eagles captaincy in the absence of Gbolahan Salami, who opted to stay out of the competition in order to finalise a move abroad.

    “We want to go to Rwanda and win the cup. We have worked hard and hope our efforts are so crowned,” africanFootball.com quoted the Sharks FC defender as saying on his team chances in Rwanda.

    “We finished third at the 2014 CHAN and we now hope to win it. That is what Nigerians expect,” added midfielder Bartholomew Ibenegbu.

    Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh, has confirmed that Chima Akas will captain the side to the 2016 African Nations Championship which begins in Rwanda January 16.

    Gbolahan Salami, who was captain during the qualifying series, has been omitted from the squad because he is on the verge of signing for a club in Europe, Goal reports.

    Goal gathered that Paul Onobi, Ikechukwu Ezenwa or Austin Obaroakpo are in contention for the deputy skipper position.

    Nigeria begins its CHAN campaign against Niger Republic on January 18 at the Stade Régional Nyamirambo, Kigali before facing Tunisia and Guinea in Group C.

    Salami, Akas fail to beat Eagles’ deadline

    Warri Wolves striker, Gbolahan Salami and Chima Akas from Sharks are the only players yet to rejoin the Super Eagles CHAN training camp.

    24 players trained twice on Sunday with officials disclosing that Salami and Akas did not beat the Saturday night deadline issued by the coaches because of travel difficulties, africanFootball.com reports.

    “We had 24 players in our first training on Sunday with only Salami and Chima Akas still being expected after they encountered some difficulties coming down,” the top team official, Patrick Pascal, told africanFootball.com.

    The Eagles will fly out to Pretoria, South Africa, for a training camp on January 2.

    The team will play two warm-up matches against CHAN-bound Angola and Cote d’Ivoire.

    Sharks FC defender, Chima Akas, has said the team has resolved to beat Burkina Faso for the second time in Sunday’s return leg of the African Nations Championship qualifier in Ouagadougou.

    The Eagles hold a 2-0 advantage going into the second leg, but Akas who spoke with Goal shortly before the team departed for Ouagadougou, said his team mates know the importance of not only sitting back and trying to protect their advantage.

    “We are ready and raring to go. We won’t give anything to chance in Ouagadougou because the confidence and the mood in camp is that we will like to qualify for Rwanda 2016. We are not bothered about any hearsay from Burkina Faso coach or whoever.  We are only concerned about our own game,” Akas told Goal.
