Afrobeats sensation Davido humorously lamented that the money showered on him and his wife, Chioma, at their lavish wedding on June 25, 2024, didn’t add up to the expected amount.

Despite the impressive display of wealth with guests spraying dollar bills in abundance, Davido joked that the actual amount they took home didn’t quite match up.

He commented: “The video of all the money dem spray and wetin we carry go house no dey tally.”

Reality TV star DeeOne has sparked controversy by criticizing Chioma Rowland’s family for holding her traditional wedding with Davido in Lagos instead of their home state of Imo.

In an Instagram video, DeeOne accused the family of prioritizing wealth over tradition and cultural heritage.

He claimed that if the groom were not wealthy, the family would have insisted on a traditional wedding in the East.

DeeOne said: “I have been waiting to end so I can say my mind. Congratulations to the couple. But Igbo people, you didn’t do well.

“Because the groom is rich you allow them to step on tradition. If it were to be a poor man, you would insist that he should come to the East for the wedding. It has to happen in the bride’s hometown. That’s the way it is.

“But because of money, respected Igbo leaders travelled to Lagos for a traditional wedding. This is the first time I’ve heard this kind of thing in my life. If the wedding had happened in the bride’s hometown, there would have been a lot of economic benefits.

“In life, just have money. That’s all I will say. Just have money. There’s nothing like tradition. I didn’t believe the wedding would happen in Lagos. I thought it was mandatory in Igbo culture to hold a traditional wedding in the bride’s hometown. But I didn’t know that Igbo tradition is divided into two; one for the rich and the other for the poor.”

DeeOne’s comments have sparked a heated debate about cultural values and the influence of wealth on tradition.

While some have praised his commitment to upholding cultural heritage, others have dismissed his views as outdated and overly critical.

Afrobeats star Davido has revealed that his wedding wristwatch cost $800,000 (approximately N1.2 billion).

He showed off the watch in a video, stating “Ain’t no fake watch, mehn. $800,000, man.”

This follows his earlier claim that Chioma’s engagement ring is worth two to three Rolls Royce, sparking controversy and mixed reactions from fans.

Some netizens praised his wealth, while others criticized his excessive display of wealth.

One social media user said: “I hate that he’s so quick to say the price of the things he wears!!! Too much brag!!!”

Businessman Dele Momodu has congratulated Davido and Chioma as they tie the knot today, Tuesday, June 25.

He conveyed heartfelt congratulations to the singer and his future wife on behalf of the Momodu family of Ihievbe, Edo State, through his Instagram page.
