    Getafe confirm Uche’s departure to EPL

    Getafe have confirmed the transfer of Super Eagles forward Chrisantus Uche to the Premier League, with Wolves emerging as the most likely destination.

    Club president Ángel Torres announced that Uche’s departure was a necessary move to comply with La Liga’s financial regulations. The deal is worth €16 million plus an additional €4 million in performance-related bonuses.

    Uche played his final match for the Madrid-based side against Sevilla  and is scheduled to undergo a medical today.

    Torres noted that the sale will allow Getafe to stabilize their finances and open the door for further reinforcements. The club will now be able to register new arrivals including Kiko Femenía, Juanmi, Abqar, Neyou, Javi Muñoz, and Álex Sancris.

    Chrisantus Uche has finally joined up with the rest of the Super Eagles squad today after overcoming issues surrounding getting an entry visa to the United Kingdom.

    As first reported by SCORENigeria, the Getafe player encountered a visa hitch, which delayed his arrival in London.

    This has put to rest false reports that he snubbed the Super Eagles and will be blacklisted by coach Eric Chelle.

    Uche trained with the rest of the squad, and he will also travel with the team to Moscow for the friendly against Russia on June 6.

    Chrisantus Uche, who is on the radar of Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle, scored his third La Liga goal for Getafe to move up in the standings.

    The midfielder, who played as a twin striker, opened scoring at Girona after just three minutes and will later be booked in the encounter.

     The 21-year-old Uche has now netted three goals in his La Liga debut season.

    The 2024-25 La Liga season kicks off tonight with Nigerian midfielder Chrisantus Uche set to make his debut for Getafe against Athletic Club.

    Uche, 21, joined Getafe from AD Ceuta on a four-year deal, becoming the third Nigerian to play for the club, following in the footsteps of Peter Etebo and Ikechukwu Uche.

    StarTimes will broadcast all 380 La Liga matches on its Sports Premium channel and for six hundred Naira weekly on StarTimes-ON App, with select games also airing on Sports Life.

    Thursday’s season openers include Real Betis vs. Girona, in addition to Getafe’s away match.

    Uche’s journey from Nigeria’s U-23 team to Spanish football has been described as remarkable for those who have followed the midfielder’s gradual rise from Owerri, Imo State.
