Why some worship leaders left Christ Embassy – Chris Oyakhilome

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, founder of Christ Embassy, has broken silence on why several gospel musicians left his church.

According to Oyakhilome, the musicians had become too focused on worldly gain and fame, rather than serving God.

Oyakhilome claimed that the church had lost its way, with music becoming too worldly and self-centered.

He stated that the musicians would lead praise and worship but would leave during prayer sessions.

He also alleged that they charged for their services and became more interested in making money than serving God.

Oyakhilome said that he initially celebrated the musicians, but when he realised the direction they were heading, he tried to correct them.

However, they refused to change and instead chose to leave the church.

The pastor expressed hope that the musicians would repent and return to their original purpose of serving God.

He emphasised that true worship leaders should prioritize God’s glory over personal gain.

“Why did it happen? The church was turned into a party place, not a prayer place where God’s word was truly celebrated…they were not soul winners; they led praise in church, and when it was time for prayers, they were gone.

“The church lost its way of worship, everything changed, the music in the church became worldly, they danced for themselves, celebrated themselves not God, they charged for their singing, they became professionals making money from the church….and many pastors didn’t know that this was the world coming into the church.

“I did at the beginning and celebrated them but when I changed, they refused to change with me, so I had to let them go; God was getting my attention and saying this is not the way. I told them the lord wanted us to do the right thing…they had become too popular and because they were making even little money….do they know what big money is? The little money they were making was too attractive to them, so they didn’t want to follow me, so they made a detour….I hope they all repent…..they are not worship leaders,” Chris Oyakhilome said

Pastor Alabi encouraged participants to prepare with intentionality, clear their schedules, and invite others to join. He underlined the inclusive nature of the programme, which will be broadcast globally across Christ Embassy networks.

“Leaders of organisations, nations, and youth groups—everyone with a stake in shaping lives—should be part of this. The Future African Leaders Awards (FALA) segment, in particular, will inspire young people for greater achievements,” he added.

  • Missing child: Edo evacuates children from God’s Own Orphanage

…Three other undocumented children found at facility

The Edo State Government has evacuated 15 children from God’s Own Orphanage, in Benin City, pending conclusion of ongoing investigation of the case of a child that was allegedly stolen at Christ Embassy, Oregun, Lagos and found at the orphanage in Benin.

The four-year-old, identified as Elo Ogidi, was said to have been stolen in July and was found last Friday in God’s Own Orphanage when policemen raided the facility after a tip-off.

Speaking after sealing off the centre, located at 25 Davies Street, off 2nd Dr. Garrick Layout, off Siluko Road, Benin City, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Magdalene Ohenhen, noted that management of the centre did not follow due process in admitting Elo into the home.

During the operation, the commissioner and her team also discovered that the orphanage had three other children who were not documented with the ministry as required by law.

Ohenhen said, “there are rules and regulations guiding the operations of orphanages, but the management of God’s Own Orphanage did not abide by these rules which is why we have shut it.

“The procedure is that before you accept a child into an orphanage in the state, the operator of the home must inform the state government through the state’s Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.”

According to Ohenhen, God’s Own Orphanage “has three other children who were admitted into the home without the knowledge of the state government.”

Noting that the owner of God’s Own Orphanage didn’t inform government before admitting Elo, she said, “The home did not inform us about the child who was reported missing in a church in Lagos, before accommodating the child in the home.”

She noted that the children in the orphanage numbering about 15 are being moved to a safer centre, where they will be under the custody of the Edo State Government, pending when investigation on the activities of the home is concluded.

  • Charly Boy goes to church

    Charly Boy goes to church

Popular activist and entertainer, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy has reportedly given his life to Christ at a Christ Embassy Church in Abuja.

The news went viral when a post shared on Facebook by a group run by Christ Embassy, indicated that the singer gave his life to Christ when he visited a branch of the Church in Abuja last Sunday, February 25.

In response to this, the activist wrote on his Instagram; “As part of our efforts to popularize and democratize politics by enlisting youthful energy, and engendering mass participation in the process of nation-building, the OurMumuDonDo Movement visited Believers’ LoveWorld Inc. a.k.a. Christ Embassy, to conscientize the congregation. We are glad to have met energetic youths who are also driven by the love of fatherland.

“In addition to that, I had an extraordinary encounter with God, and I am Glad for it.

In the coming days, however, we will be visiting other Churches, Mosques, Traditional Rulers, and even Traditional Religion Worshippers to ensure that we all work synergistically to rescue our dear country Nigeria”.

His wife Lady D, was not left out in the testimony as she added; “”My husband’s born again didn’t start yesterday. Charles has always been spiritual, has always given himself to service. He has always been an inspiration to millions of frustrated Nigerian youths. His life style has made thousands chase their own dreams with tenacity and never gave up on themselves. Yes, people where not too sure what to make of him, because of his theatrics he kept confusing people who couldn’t see the humour or the sense in how he was acting out. Charles has always been about how he can add value to his environment and the people he meets.”

Many think that the controversial entertainer may just have his own meaning for the phrase ‘born again’, as there are no indications of a sober person.

  • Fire at Christ Embassy Church in Lagos

Fire at Christ Embassy Church in Lagos

The auditorium of the Christ Embassy Church headquarters in Oregun, Lagos, was in flames yesterday.

It was gutted by fire which emanated from a power surge from one of the multiple generating sets in the church’s power house.

The surge led to multiple explosions before firemen from neighbouring Alausa came on the scene to prevent the fire from spreading further. The spark occurred around 4pm and the fire raged for at least three hours.

Gone were 14 generating sets and the auditorium which was badly affected. A fireman was injured during the rescue mission.

Director of Lagos State Fire Service Rasaq Fadipe, said: “It was a very serious. The fire involved the generator house and cables

“They have about 14 big generators that were affected as well as the church’s stationary diesel and petrol tanks.

“However, our officials didn’t allow the tanks to burst. And we also prevented the fire from spreading to the air conditioner House.

General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Agency Management Authority, (LASEMA), Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, told reporters that the fire started around 4pm and raged for about three hours.

He said “apart from the injured fireman, there was no casualty.” No official of the church was willing to speak last night.

  • Christ Embassy rehabilitates Lagos clinic

Christ Embassy International Ministries has rehabilitated a healthcare clinic in the Lekki axis of Lagos State in furtherance of its commitment to charities.

The event, which attracted faith-based organisations, civil society groups and community development associations, was a major highlight of the Reach-Out Nigeria, an annual evangelical outreach of the church.

Indigenes of Owode and Addo communities where the healthcare facility is located, welcomed the gesture, saying it is a value-added initiative that will boast the standard of their living.

The head of the clinic, Mr. Oyekanmi, applauded the quality of work done at the health centre.

He said: “This place was not habitable at all before the renovation. The walls were cracking and the paint on the wall had peeled off but all of that is not visible anymore and we appreciate their help because this will attract more patients.”

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Toyin Quadri, commended the efforts of the church but appealed for more government support.

According to her: “I am really happy to see that this church has come to help us but the thing is that we need doctors here.

“If an emergency happens at night, we will not have anybody to rush to except the nurses here and we would like that to change.”

The event, a collaboration between Partnership for Transforming Health Systems (CATHS), a DFID-funded project, according to Esther Samson, has been a boost for the health facility.

Justifying the need for the project, chairman, Reach-Out Nigeria, Pastor Williams Adedeji, said: “The rehabilitation was a mandate given to us by Rev. Chris Oyakhilome when he asked us to go to our community and celebrate independence by doing something impactful for them.”
