    Christians decry Melaye’s action

A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), the Christian Conscience Group, has described Senator Dino Melaye’s action during the closed-door executive session of the Senate as condemnable, disgraceful, shameful and embarrassing.

The group, in a statement by its National President, Sam Ogedengbe, said it was high time Christians participated in choosing candidates for offices, noting that “there is no doubt that proper channels were not used in voting Melaye.”

His words: “The Christian community has a stake in either selection or decision to bring any candidate for any political position. No godfather can give us anyone. We are not ready to vote for politicians who have nothing to offer the citizenry.

“Nigerians are not ready to vote for anyone, either Christian or Muslim, who will act contrary to what he/she is voted for. Melaye’s action towards Senator Oluremi Tinubu has brought shame not only to him, but to the people he represents in Kogi West, and the country.”

Ogedengbe noted that Melaye’s derogatory attack against a fellow lawmaker showed that he lacks the poise, panache and character to occupy a seat among the sane, revered and honourable members of the hallowed chambers.

He said the group advocated that he should be recalled, adding that the group would not hesitate to mobilise Christians to reject politicians that tended to act contrary to the people’s will before 2019.

  • Cleric enjoins Christians to quit immorality

Pastor Samuel Esho, the Superintendent In-charge, Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Modakeke District Coordinating Council (DCC), has enjoined Christians to desist from every form of immorality.

Esho gave the charge during 11th Osun State Sunday School Rally, entitled: “Going into Perfection”, held at CAC Oke-Anu, Modakeke DCC Headquarters, Ife North-East LG Area of Osun State on Saturday.

He lamented the level of atrocities being committed among Christians today, saying that many had turned away from God.

“This was not the experience among Christians in the olden days; we all have turned away from God.

Quoting from the bible, he said: “For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh and to be carnally minded is death, because carnal mind is enmity against God.”

He called on Christians to properly and adequately unveil the dangers involved in living a life of immorality and the eventual results awaiting perpetrators eternally.

According to him, “Christians need to always allow the Holy Spirit to dwell in them; they should be full of power of God and to allow old things to pass away from their lives.”

He reminded Christian faithful of the coming back of Jesus Christ and how they should not live carelessly lest their labours end up in vain.

The cleric then called for consistent prayers for the nation, saying “Nigeria belongs to God’’.

“This is our quota that we need to contribute for the development of the nation,” he said.

He admonished Christians to strive more to evangelise and win souls for Christ, saying, “this is the mission Jesus assigned to us all.”

  • Nigerian Christians in U.S. seek speedy return of looted funds

The Christian Association of Nigerians Americans (CANAN) has pleaded with developed nations to help in reviving Nigeria’s ailing economy by returning the country’s looted money stashed in their banks.

Executive Director of CANAN, Dr. Ade Oyesile, in a statement released in New York yesterday, said the money, which runs into billions of dollars, could be handy to pay civil servants.

While commending United States for agreeing to return about $480 million believed to have been looted by late  Gen. Sani Abacha and his family, the statement by the association’s media consultant, Williams Ekanem, pleaded that both governments should expedite action on the terms and conditions for the repatriation of the cash in the interest of the Nigeria’s ailing economy. One of the conditions is for the U.S. to advise on specific areas to spend the funds to avoid the cash being re-looted.

The CANAN executive director urged other nations where Nigeria’s looted money is stashed to emulate the U.S. and show confidence in the financial accountability posture of the Muhammadu Buhari administration to return her looted money.

The statement said: “CANAN has become interested in the return of this money because of the undue long process it has taken for some developed countries to act even in view of the hard economic realities Nigeria is facing in the ace of dwindling oil price at the international market, Oyeshile, who is also a financial expert, pointed out.

  • Don’t relent in good works, Christians urged

The church must continue with its good works to remain a gift to the society, Venerable Christopher Ayejoto has stated.

He spoke at the 25th anniversary of the Christian Unity Band of Nigeria (CUBN) of St. Timothy Anglican Church Awori Diocese, Ogun State.

The Vicar, Rev. Canon Emmanuel Adekoya, praised CUBN members for their hard works and dedication.

He thanked them for the chandelier they bought to illuminate the church and prayed that the good Lord will continue to illuminate their lives and works.

Adekoya tasked them not to relent but persist in their good works with more dedication.

    Adebule, Adeboye hail NASFAT’s initiative

To promote religion harmony, Muslims and Christians held a walk in Lagos on Saturday.

With the theme: Walk for religion harmony, it was staged to mark the 21st anniversary of Nasrul-Lahi-L-Fathi Society (NASFAT).

The walk began at Mobolaji Bank–Anthony Way and ended at the Lagos State Secretariat Mosque Extension in Alausa, Ikeja.

Among the participants were the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Foursquare Gospel Church and Newborn Apostolic Church. They wore NASFAT outfit, with inscriptions of message of peace.

NASFAT President Alhaji Kamil Bolarinwa said there was need for religious tolerance, stating the importance of physical and emotional health to such peace.

Bolarinwa said: “We must take care of our spiritual, emotional and physical self as our body is the most complex of machines given to us by Allah.

“Our body should not be abused or neglected but maintained in good order; diet and nutrition are critical in maintaining the best possible health including lifestyle and physical exercise.”

Lagos State Deputy Governor Dr Idiat Adebule hailed NASFAT for organising a walk with Christians to promote peace.

Mrs. Adebule said: “I commend NASFAT for this laudable initiative, and on behalf of the governor, the government and people of Lagos, I say thank you to all of you that have participated.

“For the churches that have participated, this is also highly commendable as this aims at promoting peaceful coexistence in our state.

“This is the way it should be, government cannot do it alone; we need the support and partnership of the people to be successful, therefore, our people must be in tandem with our programmes.’’

RCCG General Overseer Pastor Enoch Adeboye hailed NASFAT for inviting the churches, noting that the group‘s preaching of love and tolerance have continued to strengthen religious harmony and peaceful coexistence among Christians and Muslims.

Adeboye described the walk as beneficial to health, stating: “we have shed some salt from the system and going by the stress level in the country, it is worthwhile.’’

Adeboye, represented by a senior pastor, Michael Lawson said Islam and Christianity preach love, kindness, justice, tolerance, unity and good behaviour.

He said the Quran and the bible do not support violence, calling on leaders of both faiths to continue to preach peace and educate their followers about religious tolerance.

Commissioner for Home Affairs Dr AbdulHakeem AbdulLateef described peaceful coexistence and religious harmony as the bedrock of good governance.

AbdulLateef said: “Section 38 of the Constitution guarantees peaceful coexistence and Section 42 also says that no one shall suffer any form of discrimination on account of practising his religion.

“Religious leaders, as development partners, must come together and show the public that we can walk together and do feats in harmony.”

Mr Godwin Elabor of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Ketu said it was time for Christians and Muslims to “walk” together to achieve common goals, adding: “The word “harmony” is meant for us to come together; Christians and Muslims must come together for a common goal. The common goal is meeting God; let us stop segregating because we are serving one Creator who is the Author and Finisher of our faith. This walk should not stop here.

“Most of the violence you find in the country is because we do not understand ourselves; this sort of gathering can make us understand ourselves better.”

National Amir (President) of The Muslim Congress (TMC) Dr Luqman AbdurRaheem said the gathering showed understanding and mutual relationship between Muslims and Christians despite the security situation in the country.

AbdurRaheem said the best of mankind is the one that tolerates his fellow human being, swallows his anger when provoked and preaches peace and love at all times.

  • Nigeria joins Islamic coalition against terror

Nigeria joins Islamic coalition against terror

President Muhammadu Buhari has admitted that Nigeria has joined the Islamic Coalition against terrorism being championed by Saudi Arabia.

Buhari made the disclosure during an interview with Aljareeza, which was broadcast at the weekend.

When asked whether Nigeria was part of the coalition, Buhari said: “We are part of it because we’ve got terrorists in Nigeria that everybody knows which claim that they are Islamic.

“So, if there’s an Islamic coalition to fight terrorism, Nigeria will be part of it because we are casualties of Islamic terrorism,” he added.

On whether Nigeria became a member of the coalition during his meeting with King Salman Bin Abdul-Aziz in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia recently, Buhari said “yes.”

He said that he could not disclose the details of how such coalition would work for Nigeria when asked during the interview.

But he said: “Well, that we mentioned under Lake Chad Basin Commission, our regional grouping compromising Cameroon, Chad, Niger, Nigeria and Benin and we dedicated a certain number of troops to be deployed in our own sub-region and I don’t think we have to tell the press the details of that.”

On whether joining the Islamic coalition will serve Nigerian security interest, he said: “Certainly. I’ve just told you it is the Boko Haram itself that declared loyalty to ISIS.

“ISIS is basically based in Islamic countries. Now, if there’s a coalition to fight Islamic terrorism, why can’t Nigeria be part of it, while those that are fighting in Nigeria as Boko Haram claim to be Muslims. But the way they are doing it is anti-Islamic, he said.

When his interviewer pointed out that since Nigeria was roughly evenly divided among Christians and Muslims and that some Christians were complaining that he was giving Islamic identity to Nigeria, Buhari wondered why such Christians had not gone to fight Boko Haram in the North or militants sabotaging installations in the South.

“Why can’t those Christians that complained go and fight terrorism in Nigeria or fight the militancy in the South. It’s Nigeria that matters, not the opinion of some religious bigots,” he stated.

On whether he was trying to change the religious identity of the country, Buhari noted: “How can I change the religious identity of Nigeria?

“No religion advocates hurting the innocent and just because the Muslims are the ones that claim to be Boko Haram and they are killing innocent people whether in the church, in the bus or in the market place, then I will just sit and look at them because I too am a Muslim? Islam is against injustice in any form.”

Buhari’s admission of Nigeria’s membership of the Islamic coalition came barely two weeks after an official Presidency statement seemed to suggest that Buhari had turned down the invitation to be part of the coalition.

A statement issued by the Senior Special Adviser to the President (Media and Publicity), Garba Shehu, during the president’s trip to Saudi Arabia had said that Buhari had pledged Nigeria’s support for the coalition even if it would not be part of it.

The statement had said that two leaders who engaged in extensive discussions on regional and global issues also agreed that terrorism posed a common threat to their states and would require close cooperation to prevail over the threats.

It observed that President Buhari who was making his first pronouncement on the invitation to join the coalition of Islamic states against terror spearheaded by the Saudis congratulated the Kingdom on its formation.

The statement quoted Buhari thus: “Even if we are not a part of it, we support you. I must thank the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the recent creation of a coalition to address the menace of international terrorism. Nigeria will support your efforts in keeping peace and stopping the spread of terror in your region. This is in consonance with our own commitment and on-going efforts in seeking to stamp out Boko Haram terrorists from the West African sub-region and Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC).”

  • Raise Godly children, Osinbajo charges Christians

Raise Godly children, Osinbajo charges Christians

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo yesterday told Christians to raise children in the fear of God.

He gave the charge at Jerusalem Mission House International in Makurdi during the wedding of Barrister Nguuma Uja and Engr. Abel Gbuusu.

Osinbajo commended the parents of the bride, Evangelist Tor Uja, and his wife, Berry Uja, for bringing up their daughter in a godly way such that has brought honor to her family through her marriage.

He expressed the hope that with the present crop of godly leaders in Benue State and at the federal level, things would certainly get better.

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, appealed to couples to make Christ the foundation of their homes.

Preaching at the occasion, Bishop Francis Wale Oke of the Sword of the Spirit Ministries, Ibadan enjoined wives to submit to their husbands.

Husbands, he said, should also reciprocate with unconditional love.

He exhorted those in government to reward those who do good and punish those who perpetrate evils, pointing out that even those who return parts of what they stole should be punished as a deterrent to others.

Bro Gbile Akanni administered marital vows on the couple and prayed for God’s blessings on them.

  • Shun materialism, GKS tasks Christians

The Chairman, Executive Board God’s Kingdom Society (GKS), Brother Godwin Ifeacho has called on Christians to shun materialism and remain watchful as the coming of the Lord draws near.

Ifeacho spoke last Sunday at the one-week long Christian Feast of Tabernacles organised by the church at the St Urhobo Square, Salem City, Warri, Delta State.

The programme attracted thousands across the country with bible lecture, musical festival, children assembly and Christian possession.

The high point was when members from Lagos, Oyo, Calabar, Abuja, Kano, Edo, walked from Urhobo town to Sapele, stadium road in Delta State with much fanfare.

Ifeacho said Christians must not make acquisition of material things their main preoccupation.

According to him:  “It is the blessings of God that gives true riches which one will enjoy with peace and which most importantly gives one everlasting life in God’s kingdom when fully established by Gods grace. That is what we should seek after.”

He highlighted the vanity of inordinate and insatiable desire for material things with the erroneous belief that one’s life is secured by abundance.

“We are not sufficient of ourselves and so we have to acknowledge that it is by the grace of God that our plans, which are according to his will, would bear fruit or be successful,” he stressed.

He lamented that unbridled quest for materialism has created massive corruption, which is killing the nation.

“Corruption is the single most critical contemporary threat to development, democracy and human security in Nigeria.

“It is responsible for most of the conflicts that are presented in ethnic and religious terms,” he said.

He lamented many church leaders cannot teach their adherents to live godly lives, be diligent and to continue in well doing.

Instead, he said they make people believe that gain is godliness or evidence of blessing from God.

  • ‘Christians will be part of the Great Tribulation’

‘Christians will be part of the Great Tribulation’

The Senior Pastor of Paradigm Shift Ministry, Pastor Jide Makinde, spoke with Sunday Oguntola on why Christians need to play closer attention to biblical evidence to have better understanding of events surrounding the end time. Excerpts:

Your new book is titled HitGalut. What does that mean?

HitGalut is the Hebrew translation of Revelation. People use Apocalypses, which is the Greek word for Revelation. Instead of saying Apocalypses, I used HitGalut. People have been asking me what it means and I have been doing a lot of explaining.

Why did you choose to write on the end-time?

Well, for me, it was not just about the desire to write a book. It was a message I got from God. I feel the Lord has sent me and I consider it a privilege. Usually, things like these should be coming from the establishments. But I believe the Lord singled me out to do it.

In 1965, I was in Primary Three and I had this unusual encounter. My father was in the Railway and we were in Offa. I had this dream as an eight-year-old. I saw a big well with water and fire was coming out of it.

I was shocked and intrigued. An uncle of us who was with us and had returned to Lagos said he wanted to go inside the well and I was begging him not to. He went into the well with the fire and water eventually. I went to the quarters of our Igbo neighbours at the railway and saw a miniature of the water and fire in the well. I didn’t understand what it was about. I couldn’t go to my dad because we were not close. This happened just before the civil war.

In 1967, all my Igbo friends relocated back to the East without exemption and many of them did not return. In 1969, my father was transferred to Kaduna but I stayed back in Offa to finish my secondary school.

In 1969, I went on holiday to Kaduna and my uncle I saw going inside the fire came to our house in full regalia of a Lieutenant. The Lord said to me that what I saw was my uncle going to the civil war. All those things prepared me for the revelations.

By 1984, I became born again and because of my interest, I was drawn to research. I saw some missing links in some of the messages of our leaders. I then invested in books and materials on end time. The more I read, the more I saw missing links. It wasn’t as if something was wrong with the messages but the chronology didn’t fall into place.

In 2005, I had a dream, 50 years after the first one. I saw chaos and everybody was on his/her own. I was feeling guilty and crying that God told me about this thing and I didn’t tell people. When I woke up, I knew I must start sharing what the Lord was showing me.

What is the main thrust of the book?

If you look at the chronology of end-time, you find a lot of churches talking about the rapture. The Catholic Church, Lutheran Church, Anglican Church, Methodist Church and Orthodox Church do not believe in the rapture. They believe Jesus Christ is coming back but not through the rapture. They don’t believe it at all. They believe we are already in the millennium.

The confusion is will the rapture happen before or after the Great Tribulations? My argument is the Bible is clear the Great Tribulations is before the rapture. The popular notion is that the rapture comes after the Great Tribulations. It is not possible because that is putting the horse before the cart.

The first seal is communism, which started in Russia and spread to China. Almost sixty percent came under communism. After that, there was Marxism. We then had economic imperialism, which was when the coalition of people came after Hitler. From this time, we would have an empire of communism with capitalism, which is a marriage of strange fellows.

In 1991, the same people metamorphosed into another thing. The Bible calls it the spirit of Death and Hell. That is the era where the world is now. It is good to know where we are to understand the globe and where we are going. That is the age we’d have terrorism, modern epidemics, economic depression and recession. Everything will really go down here and escalate.

Since we had 9/11, the world has not remained the same again. Everything is escalating. The terrorists are becoming more creative in the world. People think that it is a religious problem but it is not. If it is religious, religion would have cured it. But it is the spirit of Death and Hell that is controlling things now.

What we are contending is more dangerous than what happened in the first and second World Wars. As we are dealing with one here, another epidemic will be springing up everywhere. All of these will escalate to the point that the whole world will be looking up to a savior, which will make the anti-Christ to arise.

    Before the rapture?

Yes, he will arise from the USA with immense political power purportedly to save the world. American fundamentalists believe the Pope is the anti-Christ but the bible did not say so. The anti-Christ will come from a little horn. The anti-Christ will come from the USA. Something is going to happen in America that will affect the whole world.

In 1930, there was the Great American Depression that affected the whole world. In the same vein, a political or social event in America will trigger a global crisis that will give rise to the anti-Christ. He will just plant his proxies all over the world to rule on his behalf.

Netherlands has suggested that any nation that does not remit its bailouts will be under a Protectorate. If you cannot pay back, they will appoint a receivership over that nation. All these debts that we are plying up will allow the anti-Christ to take over nations of the world because they won’t be able to pay back.

That is when the issue of the mark of the anti-Christ will come. The BVN is already an indication of what will happen. You cannot function without an identity. The Church is waiting for the rapture but the Great Tribulations will come before the rapture.

But this is a new concept

Well, it is not new. It has always been there in the bible but the Christian establishment didn’t follow the sequence of events slated for the end-time. You see the belief that the rapture will come before the Great Tribulations came from the fundamentalists of America also known as Pre-troops.

The Church in Nigeria came from them. Once they got it wrong, we’d get it wrong too. I will appeal to our church leaders to go back to the bible and reconsider things. Unless we get things right, we wouldn’t be able to interpret what is happening around us.

So, contrary to established belief, Christians will participate in the Great Tribulations?

Yes, we will. All the early churches went through the Great Tribulations. Even Jesus went through it. All the fathers of faith went through it. The church went to sleep a King offered official protection. The revival started with the American church but where are they too? Jesus said the rapture will take place immediately after the Great Tribulations.

After the rapture, there will be the seventh seal, which is when God Himself will start punishing mankind. A lot of people misunderstand it for the Great Tribulations but it is not. A lot of Christians would have gone to collect the marks of the beast but God will seek want to save them. Extra-terrestrials beings will be the ones to preach them to persuade men.

You mean those who have collected the marks might still be saved?

Yes because God does not want anyone to be condemned. He will offer everyone a second chance again to accept Christ. By then, the headquarters of the anti-Christ will be in Jerusalem and there will be the battle of the Armageddon.

Are you saying the rapture is not the second coming of Christ?

It is not and I will tell you what it is about. The purpose of the rapture is what Americans always do when they want to take over a place. They will announce for all their citizens to come to the airport for evacuation. Once they have done that, the missiles and air bombardment comes in. Once they have destroyed the capability of the enemies to respond, the soldiers come in for mop-up operations.

Christ will do the same thing to evacuate His people not as permanent residents but as special refugees in heaven. They will be there for three-and-half years in heaven. They will go up there and come down when the anti-Christ has been destroyed for the millennial reign.

I had to go through a paradigm shift to absorb this revelation. My major appeal is that our leaders should unlearn everything and go through the bible again. If the Great Tribulations should happen, the danger is what happened during the holocausts will happen again.

The leaders didn’t teach them they will go through other tribulations. They thought they were done with it in AD 70.  They didn’t know there was another Nero that will come in the form of Hitler. They events of holocaust turned them to anti-god. They didn’t expect that God will watch them go through genocide.

Our leaders should prepare people because they might become anti-god if they experience the Great Tribulations.

  • Christians must study Quran, says author

Pastor Nureni Aderemi has launched a book titled “The Islam Christians must know”.

Nureni pointed out that many Christians don’t know the fundamental beliefs of Islam.

This, he said, is why they cannot reach out to them.

”What Muslims want is to reach this God we are talking about. They are not against Christians.

“The content is based in the revelation of Quran, which everyone is expected to know to help shape their decisions.”
