KickOff Emeka: from sports journalism to football scouting

After a fleeting spell as a freelance journalist, Chukwuemeka Udenweze Obijiaku is back to his first love: scouting for precocious football talents that can make the headlines as much as the Victor Osimhens and Ademola Lookmans of this world.

A thoroughbred crusader in the development of football from the grassroots, Obijiaku, is also known for his political activism within Festac, a suburb in Lagos. Yet, it is his well-grounded work with football that has made Obijiaku a household name all over the adjoining environs where he earned the sobriquet, KickOff Emeka, following his stint with the now rested KickOff Soccer Magazine.

Early last month, Obijiaku, was appointed the general manager of Macdonald Royal Academy.

The academy is the brainchild of Swaziland-based popular Nigerian Pastor Victor Macdonald who has since partly abandoned his day-to-day work as a FIFA accredited Intermediary for evangelism.

“We are delighted to announce the appointment of Mr.  Chukwuemeka Udenweze Obijiaku aka KickOff Emeka, as the Manager of Macdonald Royal Academy,” a statement signed by the Orlu-born Pastor Macdonald, stated. “With a proven track record of leadership and a deep passion for football development, Mr. Obijiaku, is will bring a wealth of experience and vision to the academy as we continue our mission to nurture young talent and foster the next generation of football stars.

“Mr. Obijiaku, is has previously managed FC Reel Youth Academy, served in key leadership roles, demonstrating exceptional organizational skills, a commitment to community development, and a talent for overcoming challenges. “These qualities, combined with his passion for football, make Mr. Obijiaku, is the ideal candidate to guide the academy to new heights.”

The statement further stated that in his new roles the GM of the Macdonald Royal Academy, KickOff Emeka will be responsible for overseeing the academy’s footballing operations, ensuring that each player is provided with the tools and opportunities to grow both on and off the field. The focus will be on developing technical skills, tactical understanding, and the personal growth of every player, fostering a culture of discipline, teamwork, and excellence.

Indeed, the appointment of KickOff Emeka comes at a pivotal time as Macdonald Royal Academy continues to expand its reach and influence within the Nigerian football community.

With KickOff Emeka at the helm, the academy accordingly, is poised for a new era of success, both in terms of player development and competition.

“I am honoured to be appointed as the manager of Macdonald Royal Academy,” a delighted KickOff Emeka who was recently named a Betking Affiliate Brand Ambassador, told NationSport. “My vision is to create an environment where young players can thrive and achieve their dreams, not only in football but in life.

“Together, we will build a program that not only produces top-level players but also strong individuals who can contribute positively to society from Macdonald Royal Academy,” he added.
