    Man in court over stealing of 16,600 litres of diesel

    A 26-year-old man, Oluwafemi Ogunkunle, was on Friday arraigned in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing 15,600 litres of diesel.

    The defendant a fuel attendant, who resides at Lafenwa Itele area, of Ogun, is being tried for stealing.

    The prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, told the court that the offence was committed on Aug. 9 at Cryslad Avenue, Agege, a suburb of Lagos.

    Ogu said that when the account was audited, it was discovered that 15,600 litres of diesel, valued at N2. 574millon was not remitted into the company’s account.

    “All fingers pointed at the accused, because the missing money was detected at the diesel pump he was attached to, “he said.

    Ogu added that the case was reported at the police station and the accused was arrested.

    The offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Akanni, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

    Akanni adjourned the case until Sept. 4 for mention.

    Man arraigned for defiling eight-year-old girl

    Ajayi, who resides at 5, Moshalashi St., Somolu, is facing a charge of defilement.

    According to Police Prosecutor Clifford Ogu, the accused committed the offence on Aug. 15 at his residence.

    Ogu said the accused called the girl into his room on the pretext of sending her on an errand before defiling her.

    “The accused shut the door, defiled her and asked her not to tell anybody.

    “She, however, told her mother when she felt pains in her private part,” he told the court.

    The offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the offence carries a penalty of life imprisonment.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    In her ruling, Chief Magistrate Taiwo Akanni granted the accused bail in the sum of N250, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until Sept. 6 for mention.

    Teacher docked for defiling three sisters

    A 23-year-old teacher, Ibrahim Idris, on Tuesday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defiling three teenagers of the same parents.

    The accused, who teaches Arabic, resides at No. 2, Kelani St., Adealu Bus Stop in Dopemu, near Lagos.

    He is facing a charge of defilement for the offence.

    The Prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, told court that the offence was committed from May to August, 2017 at the residence of the accused.

    Ogu said that the three sisters, whose ages range from seven to 12 years, were receiving Arabic and Islamic lessons from the accused.

    “The parents did not know that the accused was sexually molesting their daughters until they relocated to another area and needed to change their Arabic school.

    “The smallest of the girl told the mother that they don’t want another uncle to be teaching them.”

    Ogu said that on hearing her daughter’s remark, the mother asked questions and was told what the previous teacher was doing to them.

    “The case was reported at the police station and the accused was arrested,” the prosecutor said.

    The offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Akanni, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N250, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

    Akanni adjourned the case until Sept. 11 for mention.

    Grandmother in court for ‘beating’ granddaughter

    A 45-year-old woman, Mrs Ronke Shitta, who allegedly beat up her five-year-old granddaughter with a stick was on Tuesday brought before an Ogba Magistrates’ Court, Ikeja, Lagos.
    Shitta, 45, who resides at Surulere, Lagos was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Taiwo Akanni on a one-count charge of the indecent treatment of a child.
    Prosecuting Inspector Clifford Ogu alleged that the incident occurred at her residence on July 15 at around 2:00 pm.
    Ogu said: “The grandmum indecently battered her granddaughter with a big stick, which gave her permanent marks. The neighbours said that was her usual way of beating the five-year-old girl and that she also sends her errands that were too much for her age.”
    He told the court that the incident was posted on Facebook before some concerned persons reported it to the office of Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
    The DPP referred the matter to the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT) which, on July 17, began the investigation.
    According to Ogu, when a DSVRT team visited the defendant’s home to rescue the child and take her into protective custody, the defendant had fled.
    The defendant’s husband, however, promised to bring her to the Gender Desk of the Police Command in Lagos the following day and he did.
    “The child was subsequently taken into protective custody,” he said.
    The alleged offence, the prosecutor added, contravened Section 135 of the Criminal Code Law of Lagos State, 2011.
    Shitta pleaded not guilty.
    Chief Magistrate Akanni granted her N100,000 bail with two sureties in the like sum.
    She adjourned till August 2, for trial.

    Man defiles neighbour’s daughter while pretending to give her biscuit

    The police in Lagos on Friday arraigned a 28-year-old Office Assistant, Desmond Terngu, who allegedly defiled his neighbour’s daughter in the guise of giving her biscuits.

    Terngu, who resides on Sura Mogaji Street, Ilupeju, Lagos, appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

    According to the prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, the accused lured the 12-year-old girl into his room on  June 30 on the pretext of giving her biscuits.

    “The accused shut the door and defiled her. Thereafter, he left the house for an unknown destination.

    “The girl told her mother but all efforts to locate the accused failed until he was sighted and apprehended,” he said.

    He noted that the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Akanni, granted him bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum.

    Akanni adjourned the case until Aug. 2 for mention.

    30-year-old unemployed Joshua Nnalue had earlier on Friday appeared before the same court also over alleged defilement of his neighbour’s daughter.

    The resident of Ogudu, Lagos, was arraigned on a count charge.

    The prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, submitted that Nnalue called the minor into his room on July 5 on the pretext of sending her on an errand but defiled her.

    “The accused defiled the girl in his room and threatened to kill her if she would tell anyone.

    “The girl told her mother a week after the incident when she could no longer urinate with ease,” he said.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty, and was granted bail by Akanni in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

    The case will be mentioned on Aug. 16.

    Police drag two security guards to court for stealing

    An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, on Friday, granted two accused persons, each on N120,000 bail for stealing a tricycle.

    The accused are, Kehinde Oluwatoyin, 50 and Friday Hwanogimo, 50, both security guards and they reside in Agege and Ogba areas respectively in Lagos.

    Ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Akanni, ordered each of the accused persons to produce a surety in like sum.

    Earlier, the police had arraigned the accused on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

    The Police Prosecutor, Insp Clifford Ogu, alleged that the accused stole a tricycle valued N660,000.

    Ogu told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 1 at Idiagbon Street, Ifako in Ijaiye, a suburb of Lagos.

    The prosecutor alleged that the complainant, Mr Kayode Adeyemi, could not find his tricycle where it was parked the previous night before he went home.

    He told the court that since there was no report of any incident of robbery during the night, he accused were the only two guards on duty, so they were arrested’’.

    The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

    The magistrate adjourned the case to Aug. 7 for mention.

    Driver charged with raping sister-in-law

    A 29-year-old bus driver, Folarin Olorunto, who threatened his sister-in-law with a knife to be able to rape her, on Monday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

    The driver, who resides on Odushola Street, Aboru, Ipaja, a Lagos suburb, is standing trial on counts of rape and threat to life.

    The prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, told the court that the driver committed the offences on June 17 on Odushola Street, Aboru.

    Ogu told the court that the driver, who was separated from his wife, visited his child in the custody of the wife, when he committed the offences.

    “On getting to the house, the defendant met the 17-year-old sister-in-law at home, and when he discovered she was the only one at home, he shut the door.

    “The defendant brought out a knife and threatened to stab the girl if she would not cooperate with him; hence, he succeeded in raping her,” he said.

    Ogu said that the defendant ran away after committing the crimes.

    “The defendant was later sighted and apprehended by the police,” he submitted.

    He said that the offences contravened Sections 56 and 259 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    The driver, however, pleaded not guilty to the two counts.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Akanni, granted him bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

    Akanni adjourned the case until July 17 for mention.

    Two men docked for sexually assaulting boy

    Two men on Monday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged sexual assault on their neighbour’s son.

    The accused, Saheedu Yahaya, 20, a factory worker and Rabiu Muhamed, 46, a fashion designer lived at No. 3, Awoyinfa St., Agege, a suburb of Lagos.

    The duo, who are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and sexual assault, risk three years imprisonment if found guilty.

    The Prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu told the court that the offences were committed in June at the accused residence.

    Ogu said that the accused lured the 10-year-old boy into their room on the pretext of sending him on an errand.

    “They shut the door at him, fingered his anus and inserted their manhood.

    “It was the cry of the boy that alerted one of the neighbours and she rushed to the accused window to see what was happening,’’ he told the court.

    The prosecutor said the woman shouted for help and the two accused persons were apprehended by tenants and handed over to the Police.

    The offences contravened Sections 410 and 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.

    Section 261 states that any offender, who is found guilty of a felony and is liable to a three-year imprisonment.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Akanni, granted the accused bail for N200,000 each with two sureties in like sum.

    Akanni adjourned the case till July 17, for mention.

    Police arraign driver for fingering neighbour’s daughter

    A 33-year -old driver, Philip Sambo, on Thursday appeared an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly fingering his neighbour’s seven-year-old daughter.

    Sambo, who resides at No. 1, Adesina St., Shasha, a suburb of Lagos, is standing trial for alleged sexual assault.

    The Prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, told the court that the offence was committed sometimes in June at the accused residence.

    Ogu said that the girl went to the Sambo’s apartment to watch film and in the process, the accused shut the door at her and fingered her private part.

    “The accused threatened to kill the girl if she tells anyone, but her mother got to know when she was bathing her and she started feeling pain on her private part.

    “Hence, the girl told her mother that it was “Uncle” that touched the place,” Ogu said, adding that the accused was arrested and charged to court.

    Sambo, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Akanni, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.

    Akanni adjourned the case till July 17, for mention.

    A 48-year-old trader, Christian Igbokwe, was on Thursday docked before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged sexual assault on the 6-year-old daughter of his neighbour.

    The accused, who resides at 30, Abeokuta St., Bariga, a suburb of Lagos, was charged for sexual assault.

    The Prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, told the court that the offence was committed sometimes in June at the accused residence.

    Ogu said that the accused called the girl into his room on the pretext of sending her on errand.

    “The accused shut the door at her and started caressing her private part with his penis when one of the neighbour’s sighted him through the window.

    “The case was reported at the police station and the accused was apprehended,” the prosecutor said.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Akanni, granted the accused N250, 000 bail with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until Aug. 2 for mention.
