    ONE of the leading lights in Nigerian women football league, Azaka Olabisi Catherine, has commended Head of the Nigeria Women Football League, Aisha Falode, for her immense contribution to the development of female soccer in the country.

    The organizer of the annual four-a-side football tournament, Awori Youth Competition, disclosed this at the 2018 edition of the tournament in Lagos.

    The former Jagunmole FC mid-fielder now a youth coach, urged participants at the tournament to remain focused and steadfast in their bid to produce the next big stars for the country’s football.

    “This tournament has already yielded great dividends with various youngsters emerging as potential stars for Nigeria’s national teams as well as for teams in the national league,” Catherine disclosed.

    A female softball coach has been charged after reportedly having ten sexual encounters with her 17-year-old pupil in two months.

    Kendall Lucas, 25, allegedly had sex with the girl between March and May last year while she was head coach of her softball team at Taylor High School in Austin, Texas.

    She could be jailed for 20 years after being charged with an improper relationship between an educator and a student.

    A probe was launched after the teenager confided in two friends at Taylor High School, who tipped off officials.

    Lucas reportedly turned herself into the police and confessed to the relationship after the school found out about the claims, CBS Austin reported.

    The school’s principal Andrew Maddox said he was ‘shocked and dismayed’ at the ‘disturbing’ allegations, in a letter sent to parents.

    ‘Like you, we are all obviously shocked and dismayed by this allegation and will be working to support all of our students in coping with this disturbing news,’ he wrote.

    Police said they were unaware of any other pupils who Lucas may have had a relationship with.

    Taylor Independent School District said in a statement: ‘We have been made aware of a possible inappropriate situation involving a high school student and an adult employee.

    ‘Our administration responded immediately and an investigation involving the Taylor Police Department is in progress.

    ‘The employee has been placed on administrative leave, and the district is cooperating fully with law enforcement authorities.

    ‘Due to the ongoing police investigation into this matter, the district cannot comment further on this incident.’

    It comes as a Texas middle school social studies teacher was arrested for allegedly filming female students undressing in the locker room and posting it online.

    Thomas Hosman, 45, was handcuffed by police in his classroom at Louise Junior High on Friday.

    Former Super Eagles Coach Samson Siasia has come out to declare that he cherishes handling the national team of South Africa popularly known as the Bafana Bafana.

    The coach confessed this to SportingLife in Abuja yesterday while confirming that he is also in the race for the Rwanda national team coaching job too.

    “You know that I don’t have any work for now, but my representatives are handling some jobs for me outside the country. I can confirm to you that it’s true I am in the shortlisted lists for the South Africa and Rwanda coaching jobs. There are other top club sides in Africa and outside that we are also looking at”, Siasia told SportingLife in Abuja.

    The coach popularly called Sia-One however cherishes handling the Bafana Bafana of South Africa when he disclosed that “it would be great if I get the chance to handle the Bafana Bafana. They are as great team with some good players.

    “The good thing is that my name is in the four shortlisted coaches for the job so anything can happen”, Siasia said with ray of hopes.

    Nigeria Olympic team assistant coach, Fatai Amoo is set to be announced as the new boss of Nigeria premier league side, Shooting Stars.

    It will be his second spell at ‘The Oluyole Warriors’ after he first took charge of the Ibadan club between 2009 and 2011.

    Top officials disclosed that Amoo’s appointment will be made public this week.

    He will replace Gbenga Ogunbote, who is on his way to securing a top post after Abdu Maikaba was considered ahead of him for the Akwa United top job.

    His contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) ended with the recent Rio Olympics in Brazil.

    Former Nigeria midfielder Amoo has previously handled Julius Berger, Sunshine Stars and Enyimba.

    FC IfeanyiUbah’S Brazilian coach, Rafael Everton has said he was disappointed with how his team defended when they lost their 10-match unbeaten run at Plateau United on Saturday.

    IfeanyiUbah fell 2-0 at Plateau with first-half goals by Kabiru Umar and Benjamin Turba.

    “We were disappointing in the way we defended, but we will work on that and am sure we will be ready for the Rangers match,” he said.

    “We played very well but didn’t score goals.I praise my boys for trying to produce good football on this type of pitch especially in the second half”

    Ivorian import Seka Pascal was picked as the Man of the Match, but said the early goal they conceded knocked them off their strides.

    “We had a good game, but unfortunately we conceded the first goal very early and that kind of threw us off balance. But that’s football, sometimes you win, and other times you lose,” he said.

    “It feels great to be voted man of the match but it’s unfortunate that my team lost, but we will keep working hard in training so that we meet our target, which is a top three finish.”

    The defeat was ‘The Anambra Warriors’ first NPFL loss in seven matches and their first loss in 11 matches in all competitions.

    Breaking News: Ex – Super Eagles Coach Shaibu Amodu is dead

    Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Amodu Shuaibu is dead.
    He reportedly died in Benin, Edo State on Friday in his sleep after complaining of chest pains.

    His remains will be buried on Saturday in Okpella, Edo State, according to Islamic rights.

    He was one of Nigeria’s most successful coaches having qualified Nigeria to two FIFA World Cup tournaments in 2002 and 2010 but was sacked before the tournaments in Korea/Japan and South Africa respectively.

    Amodu also coached the defunct BCC Lions to win the FA Cup in 1989 and led the club to win the now rested Africa Cup Winners the following year.

    The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has sent a reminder to Nigeria premier league side Plateau United that their newly appointed coach Victor Wikadson has been banned for life after he was involved in some scandalous matches three years ago.

    Plateau United appointed Wikadson in place of sacked Zakary Baraje.

    The Nigeria Football Federation has fired a reminder to the Plateau State Football Association that the ban placed on some football players and officials following a couple of scandalous results in the 2013 Play-Off matches of the Nigeria Nationwide League, in Bauchi Centre, is still in force.

    In results that attracted global alarm and condemnation, Plateau United Feeders, Akurba United FC of Lafia, Police Machine FC of Yola and Bubayero FC of Gombe were involved in unimaginable scorelines of 76-0 and 89-0, and the Nigeria Football Federation set up a panel that recommended that players, team officials and match officials involved in the shameful events be banned for life from the game.

    The letter signed by NFF general secretary, Mohammed Sanusi, on Tuesday instructed the Plateau State Football Association to ensure that the ban is enforced in its domain.

    The reminder became necessary in view of the move by NPFL side, Plateau United on Monday to appoint Victor Wikadson as new head coach.

    Lazio FC of Italy’s midfielder, Oguenyi Onazi has stated categorically that Nigeria’s senior football team, the Super Eagles needs a new coach with the right technical savvy to mould the immensely talented players available into an invincible squad for the country.

    Onazi drew a parrallel between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and the current Barclays English Premier League leaders, Leicester FC of England when he revealed that the English side had ordinary players who last season barely escaped relegation stressing that: “Look at what the presence of a competent coach Claudio Raneri has done with those players at Leicester under one year.

    “Compare what Raneri has done with the average players he has moulded into good players with the Super Eagles that is filled with immensely talented players but who cannot qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations. Well, it is not my duty to say this but I feel deeply pained that Nigeria won’t be at the Africa Cup of Nations given the calibre of players available to the country.”

    Asked repeatedly on a Silverbird/The Nation’s television show’s exclsuive interview on Friday if he still wanted Samson Siasia to remain as the chief coach of the team, Onazi was evasive and did not say yes to the question, insisting that it wasn’t his duty to determine that pointing out that: “I’m ready to give my 120 per cent for Nigeria anytime I’m invited to play for the country, irrespective of who the coach is.”

    Ailing Eagles coach, Jean Francois Lusciuto has begged to be paid at least part of what the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) owe s him in salaries for him to proceed to Belgium for further treatment after his surgery in South Africa last month.

    It was specially gathered that the Belgian coach is owed five months’ pay, which totals N10 million Naira at two million Naira a month.

    “The whiteman is really down – his stomach problem, which needed surgery in South Africa, has persisted and he now wants to fly to Belgium for better treatment,” a top official disclosed.

    “He has said he only needs his salary for a month to do that and he has written several mails to the NFF, but sadly he has not received any reply.”

    Incidentally, Lusciuto was left stranded in Lagos when the Super Eagles returned from the 2016 CHAN in Rwanda and he had to find his way back to his base in Togo, where he lives with his wife.

    Three-time African champions Nigeria face crunch AFCON 2017 qualifiers against Egypt next month and they could be in danger of missing out on two straight AFCONS within two years.

    Florence Omagbemi named Falcons caretaker coach

    Former Nigeria skipper Florence Omagbemi has been appointed caretaker coach of the country’s women’s team, the Super Falcons.

    According to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), a foreign coach will be appointed “within the shortest possible time” to stop the country’s slide in women’s football lately.

    She will be assisted by former internationals Perpetua Nkwocha, Ann Chiejine and Bala Mohammed, who will be goalkeeper trainer.

    African champions Falcons will soon begin their qualification campaign for the 2016 African Women’s Championship in Cameroon in November.
