Coca-Cola’s ‘Share a Coke’ to inspire togetherness

Coca-Cola Nigeria has relaunched its “Share a Coke” campaign, an initiative aimed at reigniting the culture of connection, community, and shared moments among Nigerians through an innovative personalisation experience designed for a new generation.

Speaking at the relaunch, the company’s Senior Director and Head of Marketing, Yusuf Murtala, said the campaign embodies the spirit of togetherness that defines the Nigerian experience.

“In Nigeria, we thrive on moments of togetherness and community where greatness happens. Share A Coke celebrates the everyday connections that turn into memories we hold on to.”

It is a reminder that even the smallest gesture, like seeing your name on a Coke bottle, can spark joy, and bring people closer,” Murtala.

Originally launched in 2011 as the first-of-its-kind personalisation campaign that replaced the brand logo with consumer names, Share a Coke, Murtala explained, became a global phenomenon. The company he said, is now reviving the campaign on a broader scale; offering even more local names, a deeper sense of personalisation, and new digital engagement opportunities to connect meaningfully with today’s Generation Z consumers.

He said the campaign’s latest edition introduces an enhanced customisation platform that allows consumers to find their names or create personalised messages on Coca-Cola bottles and cans. This, he added, transforms an everyday beverage into a symbol of appreciation and human connection.

Murtala also noted that Share a Coke goes beyond nostalgia to meet the emotional needs of today’s youth who, according to industry insights, “crave authenticity and want to connect with real people in everything they do.”

“Amid the growing dominance of online interactions, Coca-Cola is emphasising real-world connections — the moments shared offline that define friendships and strengthen community bonds.

“Share a Coke is celebrating the connections and experiences that define this generation in spaces that allow moments of togetherness to thrive,” Murtala added.

Echoing this sentiment, the Director of Marketing, Valerie Odubogun, highlighted the campaign’s relevance in today’s digital age, stressing that real connections are built in shared physical experiences.

“In today’s digital world, it is important to celebrate the unique bonds of friendships and this important human connection. Share a Coke reminds us that memories happen when we come together and experience the real magic of human connection; those spontaneous moments of laughter, stories, and genuine connection, shared over a Coca-Cola can, make life so special,” Odubogun said.

As part of the nationwide rollout, Coca-Cola will reward consumers with millions of naira in cash and prizes from October 1 to December 31, 2025, through personalised 50cl Coca-Cola bottles available at major retailers across the country, according to the company’s leadership. Nigerians will also have the opportunity to participate in Share a Coke experiences during the official launch event in Lagos on October 23.

The campaign’s relaunch, they said, underscores Coca-Cola’s commitment to creating brand experiences that are both personal and community-driven, bridging digital and physical worlds through shared joy and authentic engagement.

Founded over a century ago, The Coca-Cola Company (NYSE: KO), according to them, operates in more than 200 countries and territories, offering a diverse beverage portfolio that includes Coca-Cola, Sprite, Fanta, Dasani, Powerade, and Minute Maid, among others. The company, they noted, continues to evolve through innovation, sustainability, and initiatives that positively impact communities and the planet.

With Share a Coke returning to the country, the company said it is not only reviving a beloved campaign but also reaffirming the simple truth that sometimes, a name on a bottle can bring people closer together.

  • Coca-Cola 60cl excites friends, families

    Coca-Cola 60cl excites friends, families

In the bustling markets of Lagos, the sunlit courtyards of Abuja, and roadside bole (roasted plantain and fish) gatherings in Port Harcourt, one emerging, simple gesture is playing a unifying role among Nigerians—passing around a bottle of Coke.

This is not just any bottle; it is, rather, the new 60cl PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) variant from Coca-Cola Nigeria that has become the latest catalyst for shared laughter, moments, and memories among friends and families.

Launched in June this year, the new bottle has made a notable impact on how consumers are offered beverages. The 60cl bottle, slightly larger than the more common 50cl option, offers enough added sips to make sharing both practical and joyful. It is what is now known as the share xtraaa.

Whether it is when a campus student is going to the hostel after classes, or a worshipper is cooling off after church service or Jumat prayers, or friends are catching up after work, more and more people are finding the 60cl as an ideal companion for group moments—where one bottle, many hands, and countless smiles come into play- all part of the share xtraaa fad.

The impressive product acceptance by consumers of various classes is indeed a validation of Coca-Cola’s reasons for its introduction, as stated by the Senior Director of Frontline Marketing, Coca-Cola Nigeria, Yusuf Murtala at the product launch.

“We understand that today’s consumers are looking for more value and meaningful experiences in every purchase. The 60cl Coke bottle is our way of giving Nigerians that little xtraaa, more refreshment, more moments to share, and more joy for the same price,” he said.

By this submission, this latest evolution of the brand not only offers the same great taste, but also elevates consumers’ everyday moments, bringing an added layer of enjoyment to every experience. It also indicates Coca-Cola’s deep understanding of the market and the cravings of consumers.

A point that the product upgrade has shown is that the new 60cl bottle is more than just an increase in volume, but a special design to offer consumers “that little Xtraaa,” providing more refreshment, more opportunities to share, and more joy for the same price.

So, for friends at roadside bukas or those at viewing centres, they can lean in to take turns sipping from the 60cl bottle as they chat about football, politics, or weekend plans.

Now that we have the end-of-session holidays for schools and some families are embarking on road trips, the 60cl bottle tucked between seats, passed from parent to child, will definitely provide the needed refreshment in the hot Nigerian sun. Campus students can easily clutch it during long lecture breaks, tilting the bottle and teasing, “No finish am now o!; remain my own o!”

Among consumers, there’s now a buzz both about the fizzy carbonation and from what the bottle represents. It’s economical, sharable, and somehow elevates the simple act of drinking into an occasion. The bottle is also designed for affordability, convenience, and portability. One thing is certainly now clear, in group settings, the 60cl PET bottle becomes less about quenching thirst, but more about enjoying each other’s company. It simply gives “that little xtraaa,”

In conclusion, the 60cl has a great quality- portability. It’s large enough to share, but still fits easily in bags and cup holders. It offers more Coke for just a few extra naira? That’s a win when you’re splitting it with others.

It also offers unforgettable or what some call Instagrammable moments. Young Nigerians are even posting creative group photos featuring the iconic red label, adding a modern twist to tradition.

Conclusively, Coca-Cola Nigeria’s 60cl PET bottle is rewriting the script on refreshment. It’s not just about drinking—it’s about belonging. In a culture where community is everything, this bottle earns its place as the unsung hero of everyday celebration because it now gives that little xtraaa.

The hub converts collected plastic bottles into clean PET bales for new packaging solutions.

Speaking during on the occasion, CEO of Coca-Cola HBC, Zoran Bogdanovic, said the facility  will help in reducing waste and fostering local economic growth. “By investing in the hub, we are supporting local communities and creating jobs, as well as demonstrating our commitment to building a more sustainable future,” he stated.

This initiative, he explained, aligns with Coca-Cola’s global sustainability goals, which include using 35-40 per cent recycled materials in primary packaging and collecting 70-75 per cent of bottles and cans sold by 2035. These targets reinforce the company’s commitment to reducing its environmental footprint and positioning as a change agent within Nigeria.

“Over the past decade, Coca-Cola has invested over $1.5 billion in Nigeria, significantly contributing to local job creation, community empowerment, and economic development. With plans to double this investment in the next five years, the company’s focus on sustainability is timely. The Packaging Collection Hub is expected to create numerous jobs in waste collection, sorting, and recycling, aligning with the NCIC’s vision for economic rejuvenation amidst rising unemployment rates,” he stated.

According to Bogdanovic, collaboration between private sector players and government entities is essential for creating a regulatory environment that supports recycling initiatives and incentivises sustainable practices. The successful establishment of the Packaging Collection Hub, he stressed, exemplifies public-private partnerships’ potential to impact environmental issues.

He said: “Coca-Cola’s investment in Nigeria’s recycling infrastructure serves as a scalable model for its African operations, potentially revolutionising the industry. The hub can inspire other manufacturers to recognise the value of investing in sustainable practices, driving broader changes in waste management.

“As we approach Global Recycling Day on March 18, Coca-Cola’s Packaging Collection Hub stands as a powerful symbol of corporate responsibility and innovation in Nigeria’s sustainability journey.
