    Coke studio returns with ‘December Takeover’

    As the year comes to an end, Coke Studio has continued to shape how young Nigerians experience December through music and culture.

    In 2023, Coke Studio rode the ‘We Outside’ wave with its ‘Outside With Coke’ theme, keeping the brand at the center of Detty December conversations. By 2024, it leveled up with ‘Flex With Coke,’ to deliver live experiences, raves, and bold stage takeovers that made Coke Studio the heart of December.

    Going into 2025, Coke Studio is evolving once again by adopting one of the year’s most resonant cultural expressions as its December identity: ‘Locked In with Coke Studio.’

    In locking down Detty December, Coke Studio will transform music and culture events into more. Coca-Cola’s December takeover will be anchored by its flagship partnerships with Flytime Fest and Rhythm Unplugged.

    Beyond these anchor events, Coke Studio will power a diverse selection of live experiences across multiple cities, including Palmwine Fest, Davido 5ive Alive Abuja, Even in the Day Dance Eko, Group Therapy, Iconiq Fest, Roadblock Fiesta, DJ Tunez’s Blackout Tour, and Adekunle Gold Fuji Live.

    “Coke Studio has been the platform amplifying the music, moments, and energy that define this generation,” said Yusuf Murtala, Senior Director & Head of Marketing, Coca-Cola Nigeria. “Locked In with Coke Studio is our way of tapping into the DNA of December in Nigeria and showing up where culture is created, where connections happen, and where memories are made.   • Coke Studio Africa thrills fans with music app

    Riding on the success of its ongoing collaborative music show, Coke Studio Africa 4, Coca-Cola Nigeria has launched the Coke Studio Mobile App. The app will make it easier for fans to watch and listen to performances from the show on the go on their mobile phones.

    Built on the Android platform, the Coke Studio Mobile App can be downloaded on both Google play store and Samsung store. With the app, Fans can stream, download, share and create playlists of their favourite songs from the show, beginning from Season 2.

    Speaking on the unique selling points of the app, Cletus Onyebuoha, Marketing Manager, Coca-Cola Nigeria stated that it would enable millions of youth around Nigeria who love music to be able to access great content on their phones. “Through the mobile app, users are able to listen to content on demand from the TV show via audio streaming or video, and download the music or create playlists for future listening” he said.

    The app, which gives consumers a chance to listen to and discover music from over 50 African artists, is available in 5 languages: English, French, Portuguese, Swahili and Amharic, making it a truly Pan-African experience.

    Following the success of the Coke Studio Season 2, the music platform has returned with the third Season, boasting a mix of established and new musicians. Running from October to December, according to its management, this season will bring together 28 artistes from five different countries to sing 52 songs, showcasing their local and signature styles to produce unique songs.

    Nine Nigerian artistes billed to feature on the show include, Eva Alordia, Ice Prince, Flavour, Chindinma, 2Face, Yemi Alade, Olamide, MI Abaga and Afri Dija, while talented music maestro Cobhams Asuquo would bring his expertise to bear on the show as Executive Producer.

    Management also revealed that Coke Studio Season 3 will be in distinct segments; mash ups between Nigerian and East African artistes; Artiste challenges; acoustic performances; and new songs from featured artistes.

    There would also be a radio show version for Coke Studio Africa, airing across seven cities; Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kano, Aba, Anambra and Ibadan. Also, this season, Coca Cola will engage up to 500, 000 Nigerian teens in secondary schools with an opportunity to showcase and highlight their talent with the state of the art Coke Studio bus.

    Commenting on the initiative, Marketing Director, Coca-Cola, Patricia Jemibewon described the Coke Studio music platform as Coca-Cola’s way of sharing in the passions and aspirations of the African youth.  She also said it will feature ‘mash ups’ of top musical talents across Africa as well revive the atmosphere of live music, using music to encourage unity and drive African pride.

    “Coke Studio is a way of showing to the youths and also   exploring the potential avenue for youths to express themselves through the music,” said Jemibewon.

  • Reminisce, others thrill students at Coke Studio

    The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife, Osun State was agog last weekend. Coca-Cola Nigeria Limited stormed the campus with artistes to thrill students in a show tagged “Coke Studio”, which was held at the car park of the institution’s Sport Complex.

    The show, which started at noon and ended at 11pm, featured Dammy Krane, Orezi, Reminisce and some upcoming campus artistes.

    The artistes doled out hit songs to entertain the students. The show got to its peak when Chinko, a 300-Level Law student and campus artiste, was called to sing along Reminisce. His performance got the audience excited.

    Occupants of Awolowo Hall, in a comic displayed, mounted the podium in their numbers to dazzle their colleagues. This display is known on the campus as “Aro”.  This changed the mood of the audience as the students laughed at their funny song, which can be literally translated: “Students read extensively to have a pass grade and girls cannot use their body to get good grade.”

    A student, Ayobami Peter, said: “The show was entertaining because most of the artists that Coca-Cola brought were among the highly-rated in the country.”

    Another student, Ayeni Arowolo, said: “Though we expected Coca-Cola to come with artistes such as Olamide and D’Banj like they did at the University of Lagos, but the show was fun.”

    University of Lagos (UNILAG) was all song-and-dance last weekend, when the popular music road show, Coke Studio, stormed the campus, treating students to live performances by rave-of-the-moment artistes, such as rap sensation, Olamide, R&B crooners Iyanya and Chidinma as well as dancehall artiste, Patoranking.

    Other acts that thrilled the mammoth crowd at the school’s sports complex include Time Magazine-listed ‘rapper to watch’, Reminisce, Tekno, Selebobo and Emma Nyra.

    The show started with a competition among upcoming musicians and dancers who battled each other for a chance to perform with the stars at the event.

    The crowd cheered excitedly as Girlie O crooner, Patoranking, opened the show, followed by Reminisce who performed hits such as Around the World and Kakobi Chicken. Selebobo, Emma Nyra and Tekno also followed with thrilling performances, before former Project Fame winner, Iyanya took the stage to do popular tunes, including Love Truly and Your Waist. Songbird Chidinma was in top form as she took the microphone, delivering hits such as Kedike, Oh Baby and Emi ni Baller. Rap sensation, Olamide, drew the curtains on the night’s performances with Awongoons mi and Turn up, sending the crowd into frenzy.

    Brand Manager, Colas, at Coca-Cola Nigeria Limited, Olufemi Ashipa, who is also Project Manager, Coke Studio, was full of praise for the massive turn-out and orderly conduct of students at the show. He expressed delight at the performance of the upcoming artistes at the concert, praying that they would take their passion further.

    “The Coke Studio connects Nigerian music stars with their counterparts in other parts of Africa. This has far-reaching implications for the development and propagation of African music, as contemporary Nigerian music is highly sought-after globally. With the live concerts, we are optimistic that more stars will be made through the Coke Studio initiative,” Ashipa said.

    The show held previously at the University of Benin, Lagos State Polytechnic and Abia State University, Uturu. The next concert has been scheduled for Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State.
