    Coker-Aguda urges youths action on SDGs

    Coker-Aguda Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has called on young people to take ownership of their future by actively contributing to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

    The council made the call at Abibat Mogaji Hall during an event to mark World Youth Day 2025,  with the theme: Local Youth Action for SDGs and Beyond.

    The programme featured expert-led sessions on “The Role of Youth in the Development of Coker-Aguda LCDA”, “Urban Agriculture for Food Security” and “Decent Work and Economic Growth”.

    Chairman of the LCDA, Azeez Owolabi Ogidan, in his keynote address, described youths as pivotal to community transformation.

    According to him, the commemoration was not just a celebration, but a call to action for young people to step forward as proactive leaders and catalysts for sustainable progress.

    He urged youths to leverage creativity, knowledge and collaboration to address local and global challenges.

    Leader of the House, Bowale Afeez Sulaimon, stressed the need for legislative support for youth-led initiatives, while the council’s Human Resource Officer, Mrs. Simire Bolanle, who represented the Council Manager, Mrs. Akintola Adebimpe Adepeju, reiterated the administration’s commitment to youth empowerment and inclusive governance.

    Participants expressed excitement at the opportunity to share ideas, gain skills and contribute to community development.

    Coker-Aguda marks Children’s Day with funfair

    The Coker-Aguda Local Council Development Area (LCDA) yesterday joined the rest of the nation in celebrating Children’s Day with a funfair, bringing together pupils from various schools across the community.

    The event, held at the council’s Multipurpose Hall, was attended by the council Chairman, Razaq Ibrahim Olamilekan (RIO), who led the celebration and personally distributed school bags and educational materials to all participating students.

    Ibrahim underscored the importance of nurturing and investing in children as the nation’s future leaders, saying “Today is all about our children — the leaders of tomorrow. As a government, we are committed to supporting their education and well-being in every way possible.”

    He advised the children to always listen to their teachers and parents, while offering prayers for their protection and success.

    The celebration featured cultural displays, dance performances, and drama presentations by various schools, creating a memorable experience for the children and guests in attendance.

    Coker-Aguda chair hails pupils’ performance

    The Chairman of Coker Aguda Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Rasaq Ibrahim, has praised the pupils of Itana Private School for their brilliant performace.

    He spoke during the school’s Annual Inter-House Sports held at Femi Gbajabiamila Mini Stadium, Coker.

    Ibrahim stated that Itana Private School has been known for excellence and that the Inter-House Sports is to create more enabling performance for the students in sporting activities and not just reading all the time.

    “We shouldn’t forget the fact that it’s just ones in one or two academic sessions. So, the students should be encouraged to engage in sporting activities,” he said.

    Proprietress of the school, Mrs. Omobolanle Akinyemi-Obe, gave glory to God for the journey so far.

    She said many schools that they started together have folded up due to one reason or the other.

    She stated that the school had won various prices since inception.

    She added that the setting up of the school was with 45 pupils and now boast of over 200 pupils both in primary and college.

    Akinyemi-Obe stressed that they introduced Nigeria, British and American curriculum in impacting knowledge to the students.

    “So, there is no area in what I have just mentioned that you tune our students to that they don’t respond very fine. I’m indeed very happy about how the school is progressing,” she said.

    She then highlighted the performance of the students in terms of state and national examination such as Junior Secondary School Exam, Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) and Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Exam as tremendous.

    She attributed the success to a well serene and conducive education environment.

    Coker-Aguda Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has held a Budget Stakeholders Consultative Forum.

    The event bringing together key representatives from political parties, Community Development Committees (CDC) and residents to discuss and review the local government’s budget for the upcoming fiscal year. The forum considered    the needs and concerns of the people. This ensured that feedback from all corners of Coker-Aguda was properly captured and considered in the formulation of the upcoming budget.

    Several key stakeholders, including party leaders, CDC representatives, and local residents, contributed valuable insights during the forum. Many expressed appreciation for the chairman’s efforts in advancing key projects whole block of the Organising Committee and the others calling for continued collaboration by the government and the community to address emerging challenges.

    The forum concluded with a commitment to further engagements and consultations as the chairman continues to prioritise the welfare and development of Coker-Aguda. Stakeholders expressed optimism about the potential for continued progress, with a unified effort to build a better and more prosperous community.

    The Chairman of Coker-Aguda Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Razaq Ibrahim, has distributed the seventh batch of food packs to the people.

    The gesture, he said, is aimed at providing relief to residents facing economic challenges.

    This initiative is part of the council’s ongoing commitment to support vulnerable households within the community.

    Ibrahim said: “In these challenging times, it is crucial that we come together as a community to support one another. Our residents’ well-being is our top priority and this distribution is a testament to our commitment to ensuring that every family has access to the resources they need.”

    He thanked Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his support and laudable programmes throughout the state.

    “We understand that many families are struggling, and it is our duty to provide assistance wherever possible. We are dedicated to making a positive impact in our community,” he added.

    He enjoined those who are yet to benefit from the palliatives to align themselves with their representatives at the ward level.

    Coker-Aguda holds summer coaching for students

    The Coker-Aguda Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has organized a summer coaching for students.

    Chairman of the council Razaq Ibrahim said the initiative was to keep the students busy during the holiday period.

    Ibrahim made this known during a visit to the L.A Primary School, Orile, the venue of the event.

    He said the visit was to access the progress of the programme and offer support to educators and students.

    The council boss admonished participants to develop a strong sense of identity.

    He said their future is before them, hence they should believe in themselves.

    He also emphasized that sustained focus and commitment are essential for achieving their academic and personal goals.

    He encouraged the students to imbibe perseverance and hard work and remain dedicated and goal-oriented throughout their educational journey.

    He prayed for the students and promised that the council will continue to prioritize their well-being and welfare.

    Leader of the House, Ogedengbe Bolaji and the Supervisor for Education, Taiwo Dadanla, commended the council boss for his efforts in engaging the students by keeping them together through summer coaching.

    The Chairman of  Coker-Aguda Local Government Council Development Area (LCDA), Razaq Ibrahim, has addressed the residents on the importance of love, togetherness and peace within the community.

    He spoke to the residents during the distribution of palliatives, a gesture related to the ongoing effort to support those in need and the most vulnerable ones in the community.

    According to him, the palliatives include food and other materials aimed at cushioning the economic hardship.

    The council boss highlighted the importance of togetherness in order to overcome difficulties and foster harmony in the society. He urged the people to embrace love and unity.

    “In times of hardship, it is love and togetherness that binds us and make us stronger, let us cherish these values and support one another as we navigate through these trying times,” he said.

    He advised the residents not to engage in protest that may lead to unrest and division.

    “While it is natural to feel frustrated and seek avenues to express it, we must prioritise peace and constructive dialogue,” he noted.

    He said protest often escalates into violence, causing more harm than good.

    He further advised the people to channel their agitation and energy into positive actions that develop the community rather than destructing it.

    A beneficiary, Zainab Oshoola from Osho Ward, was full of praise to the council boss for his relentless effort in developing the community.

    She thanked Ibrahim for always putting smiles on the faces of the residents by providing palliatives to them.

    The Chairman of Coker-Aguda Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Rasaq Ibrahim, has donated learning materials to public primary and secondary schools in the council.

    The council boss stated that his administration’s commitment to promoting education and excellence aimed at advancing the vision of students and intensifying investment in the education sector.

    The materials given to the people include chairs and tables, lunch box, first aid box, and public address system.

    “This is part of what we promised their parents during the electioneering period. The chairs and tables belong to the teachers; the Public Address System (PAS) is for the school while the First Aid box is for the pupils in case anyone of them sustains an injury, first aid treatment will be administered to such person. We provided them all that to make their educational pursuit easier,” he said.

    A teacher at Orile-Iganmu Nursery and Primary school, Aminat Adele, said she was excited about the development, adding that the support would enhance learning and teaching process.

    A beneficiary, Okpara Divine, applauded the chairman for his kind gesture. Another beneficiary, Faith Nnenna, added that she loved what she saw and lauded the chairman’s effort for providing them with the materials.

    The Chairman Coker Aguda  Local Council Development Area (LCDA)  Razaq Ibrahim, has distributed the fourth set of palliatives to residents in its community.

    The council chief stressed that the January palliative distribution would help mitigate the financial effects of the December celebrations.

     He said the distribution was ongoing simultaneously as an empowerment scheme.

     Items such as large coolers, soft drinks, umbrellas and host of other items were distributed to selected individuals from each ward in the council.

    Ibrahim said: “The distribution of palliatives was done on ward basis. Councillors of each ward were in charge of distributing the palliative packages to their ward members.

    “The packages were made up of common food items such as rice, beans, garri and spaghetti. Despite the long queues and the struggle of people to quickly leave for home with their palliatives, the distribution was still fairly in order.”

    “Although, there has been previous editions of the palliative distribution scheme, a significant number of the beneficiaries mentioned that they had come here for the first time since it started, and were glad to get to see the government’s concern for their welfare in action.”

     He enjoined the beneficiaries of the empowerment scheme to utilise the items given to them to scale their businesses, and not resort to selling them for other purposes.

    The council boss further stated that other available items such as pepper grinders and gas cookers  would be given out in subsequent empowerment schemes.

    He promised to work tirelessly to develop sustainable programmes that include skill development, entrepreneurship and fostering self reliance in the community.

    The beneficiaries commended the chairman’s initiative to alleviate their burden on the removal  fuel subsidy.

    Coker-Aguda boss fetes 2,000 residents

    The Coker-Aguda Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has distributed foodsuff to over 2,000 residents in the council.

    Its Chairman, Razaq Ibrahim, said the programme was to alleviate the stress of the people and beneficiaries were drawn from all the wards.

    He said: “We called people around the seven wards in the local government, including the artisans, the disabled, youths, women, clerics, without excluding anybody in the community to have a feel of the council’s gesture.”

    According to him, the exercise will be in batches to reach residents.

    The council boss said the food items being distributed were palliatives from the local government, stating that when that of the federal government comes, they will add it to what they have on ground so that more people will benefit.

    “We have over 2,000 beneficiaries, but the next one will be more than this because this one is just to kick-start to see how it goes,” he said.

    On the continuity of the gesture, the council chairman assured that the programme will run till December.

     He said the committee in charge went to houses to check for the needy and got their details.

    This, he said, was to ensure the palliatives got to the right people and to prevent them from receiving twice.

    “We still have lot of things to do, in the educational sector, we distributed General Certificates Examination (GCE) forms to students to ease the burden on their parents because we know how much the form is.

    “We also organised holiday coaching class for students and we had 2,000 beneficiaries,” he said.

    The Coker-Aguda Council chief assured Nigerians that the removal of fuel subsidy was not meant to inflict pains on the people, but in the end, they will be happy.

    He advised Nigerians to calm down because there are lot of good packages in store for them from the Presidency.

    “What we need is prayer for our president, governors and local government chairmen,” he said.

    The Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Palliative Committee, Olaleye Martins Olanrewaju, said the palliatives were distributed regardless of the political party beneficiaries supported.

    He further said the price of each  package was over N10,000

    “I advise the beneficiaries not to sell the palliative; they should use them for their consumption. We know things are hard, but if you sell it, you are the one losing,” he said.
