    College matriculates 688 students

    Delta State College of Health Sciences and Technology, Ofuoma-Ughelli has matriculated 688 students for the 2025/2026 academic session. 

    Speaking at the event which marked the institution’s 30th matriculation, the Provost, Dr. (Mrs.) Eravweroso Odiete, advised the new students to embrace discipline, integrity, and compassion, reminding them that admission into the college is a privilege that must be sustained through hard work and obedience to rules.

    “From today, you are no longer applicants or hopeful candidates you are bonafide students of this institution.

    “You are training not just for jobs, but for professions that touch human lives directly. Your certificate may qualify you, but your conduct will define you,” she told the students.

    Mrs. Odiete described the ceremony as historic, being the first matriculation held under her leadership since her appointment last August. 

    The Provost expressed gratitude to the Delta State Government for its continued support for education, health and manpower development.

    She appreciated the Governing Council, management, staff, parents, and guardians for their contributions to the institution.

    College matriculates 16, graduates 48 Bible scholars

    Everest International Bible College (EIBIC), an arm of Christ Fire World Evangelicalism Ministries, in conjunction with Two Witness Inc, Michigan (USA), has produced 22 diploma and 26 certificate graduates at its 12th convocation.

     The graduation/matriculation took place on the church premises at Ashela-Ikorodu, a Lagos suburb. It was attended by families and friends of the graduands.

    The Vice-President of the college, Pastor Helen Owonibi, urged the graduands to go forth and pray for everyone, including their enemies.

     She said: “It is a special day in which we are all witnesses of these new soldiers of Christ. Henceforth, till you enter mother earth, teach all nations to be close to all things the Lord has commanded. Do not be wary to preach to friends, foes, the enlightened, illiterates or those on the street. Let your voice be heard, preach for Christ. Do not fail Christ.”

     The President of the college, Prophet Israel Abayomi Owonibi, advised the graduands to join service groups so as to practicalise what they have learnt.

     He said: “I commend your sacrifices and commitment to the Bible despite the challenges that came through the year.”

     The registrar, Pastor Akinola Owolabi, enjoined the graduates to be ambassadors of Christ by lifting up His name.

     President of the students, Akinyele Peter, urged the graduating students to be instruments of righteousness and do the work God almighty has called them to do.

    Highlight of the event was the presentation of prizes to the best student in each course.

    Simon Page College of Marketing, Lagos,  has hosted its alumni to a dinner which was attended by leading business leaders such as Group Managing Director /CEO of Flour Mills PLC, Omoboyede Olusanya and Managing Director/CEO of Lagos Free Trade Zone (Tolaram), Dinesh Rathi.

    The college is  Africa’s largest provider of professional marketing training offering Chartered Institute of Marketing(CIM), UK qualifications across Ghana, Kenya, and Nigeria.

    The event, themed ‘Celebrating excellence and inspiring the future’, brought together professionals and outstanding people who have been trained  by the college.

     Olusanya lauded the college  for celebrating its alumni, noting that it is transforming the professional marketing training landscape.

     He  urged the alumni to see the platform as a stepping stone because they visualising for the upcoming generation what their future should be.

    The college in addition to the CIM, UK qualifications, now offers Project Management (PMI, US), Digital Marketing (DMI, Ireland), and Data Science (DSI, Ireland) qualifications and has trained thousands of professionals.

    Federal College of Forestry shut

    The management of Federal College of Forestry (FCF), Jericho, Ibadan has shut the school, following disruption of peace on the campus on Tuesday.

    It ordered suspension of academic activities.

    The decision was communicated to the Heads of Departments, Dean of Student Affairs, Chief Security Officer, Student Union Government (SUG) President, members of staff and students via an internal circular dated October 25.

    The circular, signed by the Registrar, Mrs. Abebi Agun, said academics activities had been suspended and the college closed down with immediate effect till further notice.

    The directive asked students resident in the college to vacate their halls of residence immediately.

    The statement said: “Sequel to the breach of public peace and disruption of academic activities, occasioned by the invasion of the college by officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the consequential reactions and protests by students, I have the directive to inform members of staff and students that the management has directed that academics activities be suspended and the college closed down with immediate effect till further notice.

    “In view of this, students who are resident in the college are hereby directed to vacate their halls of residence immediately.”

    Confirming the closure, a source in the school said one of the heads of departments communicated the directive to the workers through the group WhatsApp social media platform.

  • College gets OAU’s nod for six courses

    The Provost, Adeyemi College of Education (ACE), Ondo, Dr  Samuel Akintunde, has said the college would start six new courses that have been approved by its affiliate, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife.

    The courses are: African Languages and Literature Education; Business Education; Educational Management; Computer Science Education; Theatre/ Creative Arts Education and Music Education.

    Akintunde, speaking at the August 2019 edition of the college’s monthly prayer meeting, held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Auditorium, said the approval of the new courses would create new jobs and provide admission opportunities to new students.

    He said as a worker- friendly administration, members of staff would be carried along in the implementation programmes, aimed at taking the college to higher level.

    He prayed for the workers and expressed optimism that better days are ahead in the remaining part of the year.

    In his sermon, Pastor Johnson Falade described the month of August as symbolic and, therefore, urged workers to have strong faith in God through constant communion, “in order to experience divine encounter in the new month”.

    Quoting John 2:2, 11 and John 5:19 and others, and using the story of the Marriage at Cana to buttress his points, Falade emphasised the need for people to always invite the Lord Jesus Christ in whatever they do, stating that the decision would enable them experience uncommon miracles.

    He stressed the need for workers in the institution to follow Jesus Christ and committing their ways to Him in the remaining part of the year.

     

  • College graduates 310

    The Federal College of Education, Obudu in Cross River State, in affiliation with the University of Calabar, has matriculated 310 students for degree programmes for the 2018/2019 academic session.

    At the ceremony to mark the occasion, the Provost of the College, Dr. James Bassey Ejue praised the Federal Government for its commitment to education through regular payment of salaries, development of members of staff, provision of infrastructure and subsidised fees for students.

    Ejue, who said that through capital intervention, the college has received classroom and office furniture as well as upgrading of all the science and language laboratories, also revealed that the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) has donated 110 computer laptops to the school to help the institution to improve teaching and learning.

    While advising members of staff and students to justify the huge investments by putting the facilities to good use and producing quality teachers in all areas, he called on all stakeholders to work hard to take the college to enviable heights so that its graduates will be sought after by employers of labour.

    Dr. Ejue, who congratulated the 310 graduating students, however, pleaded that relevant authorities should increase the admission quota, especially for the reason that all their 13 degree programmes have gained full accreditation status by the Nigeria Universities Commission (NUC).

    The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar, who was represented by the Dean of Faculty of Education, Prof. Simon Ibor Akpama, informed the students that the ceremony marked their formal initiation into the academic programmes of the university.

    The Vice-Chancellor advised them to be disciplined, diligent and committed to their academic works.

    He also advised them against vices such as vandalism, violence, drug abuse and drug addiction, cultism, robbery, prostitution and joining gang groups, among others, which would be inimical to their academic progress.

    He said the future of the country depended on them, even as he urged them not to disappoint those who saw them through their education.

     

  • NCCE to Review Curriculum of Colleges of Education

    National Council of Colleges of Education (NCCE) is set to review the curriculum of colleges of Education across the country to reduce the course overload on students.

    The Provost of the Niger state College of Education, Minna, Professor Yakubu Muhammad Auna disclosed this during the pre-convocation press briefing in Minna.
    Auna said that the review is to ensure that the students offer courses which they will be able to assimilate as against the overload of courses they currently over now.
    “College of Education students offer more courses that the university students, they are overloaded with courses. This is the reason why NCCE is reviewing the curriculum standard in order to reduce the number of courses and  being offered by the students.
    “By the time the new curriculum is out, the students will have cause to smile as they will no longer be over burden with courses and the failure rate among the students will be reduced. “
    The Nation gathered that an average College of Education student offers a minimum of 15 courses per semester and this development has increased the failure of courses by students.
    Speaking on the 27th combined convocation ceremony, the Provost said that 15,333 students will be conferred with Nigeria Certificate of Education and awards on Saturday.
    He further said that 27 programmes of the college has received full accreditation adding that the college would soon commence e-examinations as efforts are being made to rehabilitate the Computer based center (CBT).
    Auna however lamented that the paucity of funds have affected the way projects are being undertaken by the institution saying that the state government has stopped giving overheads to the institution and this has affected the institution.
    “Since the commencement of this administration, they have stopped giving overhead to our institution and due to this, we are unable to execute a lot of projects. We have to rely on money paid by students but we are also limited as most of these fees are user fees. Getting funds to execute projects has been very difficult.”
  • College gets female staff union

    The Adeyemi College of Education (ACE),Ondo  now has a women-only union called the Female Staff Union (ACEFSA).

    The union was inaugurated by the Directorate, Gender and Sustainable Development Studies in the College.

    Four women were honoured at the event including the wife of the Ondo State Governor, Mrs Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu; the Deputy Director, Department of Public Prosecution, Ondo State Ministry of Justice, Mrs Adegoke Stella Olufunmilola; a staff of the College in the Counselling and Human Development Unit, Mrs. Catherine Olubukunola Olotu and a student of the institution, Miss Suara Adejoke.

    In his speech at the event, Provost of the College, Prof Olukoya Ogen, expressed joy that the association started during his tenure.  He urged its members to contribute to the nation’s progress.

    “This has tremendous prospect for the staff and students of this college and beyond.  My desire is for the Association to become a rallying point for fostering development and advancing progress in the college.

    “I expect the members, who I know to be cultured models of discipline and decency, majority of who are also mothers, to help the college in its drive to checkmate social ills on campus and build a better college. You should use this forum to empower, advice, mentor and encourage each other to strive for success, especially in your various careers as academics and administrators.”

    Ogen praised the Director, Gender and Sustainable Development Studies, Dr Chinelo Onuegbu “for tirelessly pushing for the creation of the association” and pledged his support for the welfare of women.

    In her remarks, Mrs Anyanwu- Akeredolu praised members of the ACEFSA for their vision and mission, saying it tallied with that of her office and would go a long way to promote empowerment of women, young girls, as well as support vulnerable members of the society.

    Mrs Akeredolu advocated the need for women to take active part in politics.

  • College to offer short courses for unskilled teachers

    The Osun State College of Education, Ilesa will soon offer short-term certificate courses to unskilled teaching staff of private schools to sharpen their skills.

    At a briefing marking the college’s 40th anniversary, the Provost, Prof. Kazeem Kolawole, expressed worry over  non-professional teachers in private schools, saying this was affecting the sector.

    Kolawole charged the Ministry of Education to ensure that private schools complied with standards, so the future of pupils would not be jeopardised.

    He said: “The government should quickly intervene in this direction. Before issuing operation licences to these private schools, it must be ensured that they have complied with standards. The schools must have football fields, libraries, school farms and other facilities that can support sound learning. How do we explain that some schools don’t have all these facilities?

    “We are not doing proper education. Schools are one of the places to discover talents in sports and other areas of endeavour and enterprise. It is high time we stood up to this challenge and rescued our children who are victims of this crisis. Our college has resolved to offer a number of short-term certificate courses to sharpen the skills of unskilled staff in many of the private schools.

    “The quality of teachers in public schools, no doubt, is by far higher than that of many private schools. But the education ministry should set up an effective supervisory and monitoring mechanism in our public schools to make them more efficient. When this is acheived, there is an assurance that student enrolment canbe improved and mushroom private schools will die a natural death,” he said.

    Speaking on the achievements of the college, he said through the council led by Dr. Adeniyi Adedeji, many Tetiary Education Trust Fund (TET-Fund) projects had been attracted to the institution.

    He said the college management was planning hostels for students,  staff quarters, and recreational facilities in the college staff club.

    However, the provost, who lamented that the college was facing some challenges, appealed for support in the construction of a good road network, perimeter fencing and landscaping on campus, among others.

  • College honours ex-Ibadan History icons

    Seven retired professors, whose writings were published in the University of Ibadan Historical Series between 1965 and 1981 have been honoured by Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo.

    The honourees, described as pacesetters of modern African historiography, were among the crop of the 23 scholars who pioneered the Ibadan Historical Series at the  premier university.

    The eminent historians conferred with Lifetime Achievement Platinum Awards were Professors Obaro Ikime, Banji  Akintoye, Anthony Ijaola Asiwaju and Olatunji Oloruntimehin.

    Others were Professors Tajudeen Gbadamosi, Jide Osuntokun, Dahiru Yahya and the Historical Society of Nigeria President/Head of Department of History, University of Ibadan, Ndubisi Ogbogbo.

    Prior to the awards, the history icons had a re-union tagged, “First academic retreat” at the Olatunde Oladiran mini-History Library of the College before visiting the Osemawe of Ondo town, Oba Victor Kiladejo.

    The Provost of the College, Prof Olukoya Ogen described them as great historians and pioneer members of the Ibadan Historical Series.

    He said the former university teachers were in the college to exchange ideas on how to resuscitate the defunct Ibadan History Book Series and improve the teaching of history in schools for national development.

    Speaking at the palace on behalf of the visiting dons, Akintoye said their decision to visit the palace was in “demonstration of respect they have for traditional institutions”.

    He stressed the importance of history in society and urged the three tiers of government in Nigeria to give more attention to its development, saying the move would advance the growth of Nigeria.

    Other speakers, Gbadamosi, Asiwaju, Ogbogbo, Yahya and Osuntokun paid glowing tributes to the monarch and described Ondo community as one of the notable, progressive and historical towns in Yoruba land.

    The Osemawe expressed happiness over the visit and used the opportunity to appeal to them to use their positions as members of the Historical Society of Nigeria to pay greater attention to the advancement of indigenous history of the Yoruba race.

    According to him, the move would go a long way in proffering solution to conflict resolution and falsification of Yoruba history.

    He urged the dons to assist the community by using their positions to advance the college’s agitation for upgrade to a university.

    Also, Prof Ogbogbo described the honorees as great scholars,  who made valuable contributions to the development of history.
