  • Obaseki commiserates with family

    Edo Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, has commiserated with Ghana and family of Kofi Annan, former Secretary-General of the United Nations and celebrated diplomat, over his passing away at the age of 80.

    In a statement on yesterday in Benin, Obaseki said Annan was a shining light of the African continent, who, strode like a colossus in the diplomatic community and worked tirelessly for a peaceful and fair world.

    “I received the news of the passing away of Kofi Annan with a heavy heart. He lived a noble, courageous life and was an example of excellence in public service.

    “From his humble beginning in Ghana, Annan grew to conquer the world, displaying an expert understanding of the complexities of the world and working to entrench the respect for human rights in the UN system. I commend his impact on global peace,” Obaseki said.

    The governor urged youths to toe the path of the statesman and global icon, noting that the virtues portrayed by Annan while he lived, would not only stand young people out, but also set them on the path of success in their chosen careers.

  • … Commiserates with Kebbi State over flood disasters

    President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed sympathy with the people of Kebbi State on the flood disasters that destroyed farmlands and engendered considerable losses of crops and homes.

    Reacting to the latest outbreak of the natural disaster that has affected a number of states in this year’s rainy season, Buhari said he was “highly touched by the sheer scale of the losses suffered by our hard working farmers in Kebbi State.”

    Buhari, in a statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and publicity, Garba Shehu, said: “This sad news couldn’t have come at a worse time for this administration because of the role of Kebbi State farmers in supporting the government’s initiative to promote local rice production as part of efforts to reduce Nigeria’s dependence on importation of the commodity.

    “This flood disaster represents a setback for the efforts to boost local rice production in the country, for which Kebbi State is playing a leading role.” he said

    Apart from creating job opportunities and decent incomes for farmers, Buhari noted that agriculture plays a key role in the economy of any country.

    He urged the affected farmers not to despair, assuring them that they will not be forgotten by the federal government.

    Buhari commiserates with family of first Village Headmaster, Ted Mukoro

    President Muhammadu Buhari has commiserated with family and friends of the first actor to play the role of the Village Headmaster, Ted Mukoro, who passed on Wednesday at the age of 89.

    President Buhari sends condolences to the entire Nollywood family and the advertising community over the loss of the renowned thespian, advertiser and voice talent who spent all his life promoting effective communication, good entertainment and healthy community relations.

    As one of the pioneers of radio drama at the Western Nigeria Broadcasting Service (WNBS) and Western Nigeria Television (WNTV), the President commended the late Mukoro for contributing to the development of theatre in Nigeria, and sustaining his interest in acting even in old age by participating in Nollywood movies.

    President Buhari, in a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and publicity, Femi Adesina, affirmed that the advertising industry in Nigeria benefitted from the copywriting skills and structuring of attractive narratives by the late actor, who also mentored many younger Nigerians.

    The President prayed that the almighty God will accept the soul of the departed, and comfort the family he left behind.

    Achuzia’s death: Obiano commiserates with Okowa

    Anambra State Governor Willie Obiano has commiserated with Ohanaeze Ndigbo and Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa over the death of the ex-Biafran warlord, Ogbueshi Joe (Hannibal) Achuzia.

    A statement yesterday by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy described Achuzia’s death as a monumental loss to Igbo and Delta State.

    The statement reads: “Governor Willie Obiano learnt with regret and emotion, the news of the passing of Ogbueshi Joseph (Hannibal) Achuzia, Ikemba Asaba, after a bout of illness.

    “This is the passing of a legend and a patriot of the highest order. A man of service and deep convictions whose exploits in the sands of time can never be forgotten by our people.

    “On behalf of the people and government of Anambra State, Governor Obiano commiserates with his brother Governor of Delta, Ifeanyi Okowa, the Asagba-in-Council, Ohanaeze Ndigbo and Nigerians on this monumental loss.”

    Kwara Utd commiserates with Fakayode family

    The management of Kwara United FC of Ilorin has commiserated with the family of a former Chairman of the club, Prince Aranloye Fakayode, whodied late evening on Monday, Sept. 7. He was 68.

    The club in a statement on Tuesday, signed by the secretary, Elder Dele Oguntokun described Aranloye, as a hard working sportsman who contributed immensely to the team while serving as the Chairman.

    The statement also described the seasoned match commissioner as an industrious man who worked tirelessly for the uplift and progress of the round leather game in Kwara and Nigeria in general.

    Late Fakayode worked with the Federal Ministry of Labour, Federal Pay Office and as Internal Auditor, Police Affairs before he retired in 2002.

    He was appointed Chairman of Kwara United in 2004, and held the position for two seasons.

    The late Prince, who hailed from Okesan Compound, Ile Oba Ilufemiloye in Arandun was the first and only non indigene so far, to serve as the Chairman of Ilorin Emirate Football Association (IEFA), and was the sole sponsor of the famous Amuedewe youth football competition in Kwara state.

    “We have lost one of our own at a time the state and the country need him most.

    “He is one of the few people who will always offer support to the club at all times.

    “We prayed God to give the family the fortitude to bear the loss,” the statement said.

    Meanwhile, players and officials of the club have visited the bereaved family on Tuesday to commiserate with them where they offered prayers.

    The club immediately suspended its training when the news broke out to them and a minute silence was offered at the training before players and officials left for his home in Ilorin.

    Late Fakayode is survived by his wife, five children and grand children.

    A member of the Lafogido Ruling House in Ile-Ife and President General, Oranmiyan Worldwide  Foundation, Prince Felix Awofisayo, has sympathised with the indigenes of the ancient town, home and abroad, over the demise of their traditional ruler, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, Olubuse II, the Ooni of Ife.

    He said the death of the monarch was painful considering his impacts in the development of Ile-Ife, Osun State and Nigeria as a whole since he mounted the throne of his forefathers in 1980, 35 years ago.

    Describing the late Ooni as a pride of Ile-Ife all over the world, he noted that the monarch had established himself positively in the history that would never be forgotten.

    He said Oba Sijuwade’s influence transcends Ile-Ife Kingdom, Osun State or Nigeria, but all over the world, describing him as a unifying force in the traditional, political and social arena.

    “He carried himself with dignity and candour, coupled with his wide reach in business and administration.

    “He also united sons and daughters of Ile-Ife in the Diaspora. He was always more than willing to assist Ife indigenes as a paramount ruler and traditional monarch,” Awofisayo said.

    Ambode commiserates with Sun

    A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Akinwumi Ambode, has commiserated with the Sun Publishing Ltd on the sudden death of the Vice-Chairman, Mr. Dimgba Igwe.

    He described the death as an irreparable loss to journalism and to Nigerians.

    The former accountant- general of Lagos State, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Communication, Mr. Idowu Ajanaju, said: “We can only be consoled by the fact that Igwe lived his life using his God-given talents and gifts for the benefits of the masses through his writings and diligence in the management of one of the foremost Nigerian newspapers.”

    He prayed for the management, workers of the Sun and the deceased’s family, saying God would grant them the fortitude to bear the loss.

    Ambode said the transient nature of life was brought to the fore and advised that men ought to live their lives in the consciousness of this fact.

    The oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, has commiserated with The Sun newspaper family and Nigerian journalists on the sudden death of the Vice Chairman of the newspaper, Mr. Dimgba Igwe.

    He made this known on yesterday in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr. Festus Adedayo.

    According to the governor, the death of the veteran journalist was shocking and heart-rending.

    “Igwe was one of the beacons of the journalism profession. He was one of the leading lights of the profession. That a man of peace like him could be visited by the violence of the road is one of the contradictions of life,” the governor said.

    He recalled Igwe’s “deep, incisive and fluid” commentaries on the back page of The Sun and said that he had made remarkable contributions to the cause of journalism in Nigeria, stating that the country would miss him greatly.

    While commiserating with the Publisher of the Sun, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu and the Sun family, Ajimobi urged them to take solace in what he called the uncommon intellectual strides of the late Igwe and take his death as an act of God.

    “He came to the world for the purpose of enriching journalism, discourses at the public sphere and he did this very remarkably. He left when the ovation was loudest. We should all bother less about him as he has fulfilled his destiny but bother more about what marks we are making in our various endeavours,” he said.

    Lagos SWAN commiserates with Ilaboya

    The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Lagos State Chapter, has expressed deep condolences to its former Chairman, Vice Chairman of Edo State Football Association and Chief Executive Officer of Sportsville Communication Services Limited, Frank Ilaboya, over the death of his father who died  on July 26, 2014. He was 96 years old.

    In a statement signed by the Secretary of the association, Emma Njoku, Lagos SWAN chairman, Fred Edore, described the demise of Pa Ilaboya as a huge loss, especially, now that his useful advice is most needed by his illustrious son, Frank, who is aspiring for membership of the Edo State House of Assembly, towards rendering more service to the nation.

    “On behalf of the executives and entire members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Lagos State Chapter,I wish to express our deepest condolences to our former Chairman,Frank Ilaboya, on the death of his father” Edore began in the statement.

    “Pa Ilaboya’s demise is such a huge loss, especially, coming at a time that his useful advice would have helped his son, Frank, in his aspiration to represent his people in the Edo State House of Assembly after next year’s general elections” the Lagos SWAN boss regretted in the statement.

    “We’re, however,consoled by the fact that Pa Ilaboya, not only lived a good life,but also left an enviable legacy personified in our former chairman,Frank, whose achievements have remained reference points in the annals of our great association.

    “While we pray for the repose of the soul of our departed father, may the good Lord also grant our dear colleague and former chairman, Frank, and his siblings the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss” the statement concluded.

    Meanwhile, according to burial plans released by Frank on behalf of the family,a wake keep in honour of the late Pa Ilaboya will hold at his residence, Ule Uantioje Quarters, Uzebba, Owan West Local Government Area, Edo State on September 19 while his remains will be laid to rest the following day.

    The late Pa Ilaboya is survived by many children, grand children and great grand children.

  • Ex-Governor Kalu commiserates with Ikorodu people

    Former Abia State Governor Orji Kalu has sent his condolences to the family of the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Salaudeen Oyefusi, who passed on at the weekend.

    In a condolence message, Kalu described the monarch’s passage as “a big blow” to Lagos State and Nigeria.

    He said: “The Ayanguren was an exemplary monarch, whose tenure brought tremendous development to Ikorodu. His reign will linger forever in the minds of his people, owing to his forthrightness and fairness on community and national issues. He lived a peaceful life dedicated to God and mankind.”

    The former governor said the traditional institution has lost a gem, whose advice will be missed by all and sundry.

    He urged the monarch’s family to take solace in the fact that he lived an accomplished life worth emulating.

    Kalu commiserated with the Ikorodu royal family and the people and government of Lagos State.

    He prayed to God to grant the late monarch eternal rest.
