  • Uwaiz condoles with Wakili’s family

    Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Social Protection Plan Maryam Uwais has condoled with the family of the late Senator Ali Wakili.

    Uwaiz was on a condolence visit with Special Assistant to President Buhari on Social Investment Programmes (SIPs), Isma’il Ibrahim.

    The presidential aides were led to the late senator’s home by Special Adviser to Bauchi Governor on Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and Social Investment Programmes (SIPs), Mansur Manu-Soro.

    Uwaiz described Wakili’s death as shocking and devastating.

    She said: “We had a very good working relationship with him. He was very supportive of what we are doing in the Social Investment office and anytime we need anything, we discussed.

    “He was very humorous. His death came to me as a shock. But, at the end of the day, that is where all of us will go. So we take solace in the life he spent and what he did. Everybody is speaking well about him.”

    Ibrahim said the death was a loss to their office because the late senator worked with him on various interventions initiated by Buhari to alleviate poverty and provide succour to Nigerians.

    Oyo govt condoles with Isola’s family

    The Oyo State government yesterday visited the home of Yoruba literary icon, Prof Akinwunmi Isola in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

    The government, through the Commissioner of Information, Culture and Tourism, Toye Arulogun, paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Prof Isola, who died at the weekend.

    The government described the late Isola’s death as a monumental loss to the culture of Oyo State and Nigeria.

    It added that the late Isola stood tall on the nation’s culture and theatre landscape.

    The government said his scholarly output and theatrical contributions to art and culture would be sorely missed.

    Leading the ministry officials to late Isola’s house at Akobo, Arulogun said the late Isola was an epitome of Yoruba culture who left an indelible mark that would forever be remembered.

    The commissioner urged the family not to be bereaved but thank God for the contributions of the deceased to the development of the country, the uplifting of the Yoruba culture as well as the prestige and honour he gave Oyo State.

    He added that the late Isola’s name would remain as a household name in civil and academic societies.

    On behalf of the family, the son of the deceased, Akinjide, lauded the efforts of the state government for the visit.

    Tinubu condoles with Buhari over loss of sister-in-law, niece

    All Progressives Congress stalwart Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commiserated with President Muhammadu Buhari over the passing of his niece, Hajiya Halima Dauda, and the wife of the president’s brother Hajiya Ai’sha Alhaji Mamman.

    In separate letters, Asiwaju, also condoled the president’s nephew and close associate, Malam Mamman Daura, and Personal Assistant to Buhari, Mallam Mohammed Sabi’u Tunde over the loss.

    Hajiya Halima, who died at the age of 56, was the mother of Sabi’u, one of the 10 children she left behind.

    In his condolence letter to the president, Tinubu said: “Please accept my deepest sympathy and condolences over the death of your niece, Hajiya Halima Dauda and that of Hajiya Ai’sha Alhaji Mamman, the wife of your older brother, Alhaji Mamman.

    “Losing close relations can be a painful emotional experience. I know how it feels because I have been through this way before. But let us be consoled by the time we shared with them and the good memories we have. Time and courage will sail through this rough period.

    “My thoughts and prayers are with you Mr. President. May Almighty Allah comfort you and the family at this moment. May He give you the strength and courage to bear it all. To the deceased, I pray that Allah grant them eternal rest”.

    In another letter to Sabi’u, the APC leader said: “I cannot possibly imagine what you are going through at this trying time. It is never easy to lose a mum. Please let the fond memories of your mum and the good time you shared comfort you.

    “Rest assured that you are in my thoughts and prayers. At this time, my prayer for you and other members of the family at this time is that Allah in His infinite mercies comfort you and stand by you and the family.

    “Know that I’m available if you need a shoulder to lean on. May Allah bless her soul”.

    Tinubu, in another letter to Malam Daura, extended his commiseration to him over the loss of the two members of the family.

    Alaafin condoles with Tinubu on son’s death

    The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, has condoled with All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on the death of his son, Jide.

    In a statement at the weekend, the frontline monarch said Jide’s death “sent such shock of unimaginable proportion, not only to the Yoruba but throughout Nigeria and other parts of the world”.

    He added: “The death of an Aremo (the eldest son) in Yorubaland is categorised as ofo. In the Yoruba belief, ofo is a calamitous death that renders not only the biological family but also the extended family and all those who share common identity to the family a state of unmitigated mourning.”

    The statement expressed the condolences of the “the Alaafin, the Oyomesi, traditional rulers in Oyo State and the generality of the citizenry of our people”.

    It said: “We share the pain of the sudden demise of Aremo Jide Ahmed Tinubu.

    “We pray fervently to Allah to give you, the mother of the deceased and the Bola Ahmed Tinubu dynasty fortitude to bear the loss.”

    Former National Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) Chief Bisi Akande has commiserated with former Minister of State for Defence, Mr. Musiliu Obanikoro over the death of his mother.

    Chief Akande in his message said, “Her death at this time of Ramadan signifies peace with her creator,” he prayed to God to accept her soul and rest her in peace.

    The former minister’s mother, Madam Wasilat died last week. She was aged 95.

    Bello condoles with Akwa Ibom

    Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has expressed his condolences to the government and people of Akwa Ibom State on the church collapse in which scores of people died at the weekend.

    A statement by the Director-General on Media and Publicity to the Governor, Kingsley Fanwo, noted that the “church auditorium collapse in Akwa Ibom was a sad occurrence that has left a dark scar on the minds of Nigerians”.

    The statement said the nation stood with the Akwa Ibom residents in their hour of bereavement.

    It said: “I wish to condole with my brother, Governor Udom Emmanuel, and the people of Akwa Ibom State on the church auditorium collapse in which many died.

    “Our hearts go to the families that lost their loved ones and those still recovering from injuries. We sympathise with you and will continue to support you through this trying period.”

    Bello urged the church to continue to pray for the greatness of the nation.

    The governor called for better regulation of structures to curb what he called “needless and painful loss of lives”.

    Osinbajo condoles with Borno govt

    Vice President Yemi Osinbajo yesterday condoled with the families of the victims of the suicide bombing of an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Dikwa, Borno State.

    A statement from his office last night reads: “ His prayers are that the Almighty God will comfort them and grant the injured persons quick recovery.

    “The Vice President stated that it is indeed regrettable that the heartless terrorists chose to unleash their wickedness on people who were taking refuge from previous acts of destruction in their homes.

    “He reassured the nation that the full weight of the federal government’s force will be deployed to hunt down the perpetrators of this evil act and also to confront terrorists continuously in the protection of life, liberty and property of all Nigerians: there will be no hiding place for terrorists.

    “Prof. Osinbajo has given directives that formidable security in and around the IDP Camps in the country be beefed up and renewed measures put in place to guard against future occurrences.”

    The Vice President renewed the government’s commitment to fighting terror.

    ITTF condoles with Nigeria over Ogunlade’s demise

    Executive member of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), Khaled El-Salhy has condoled with the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF) over the untimely demise of former junior star, Azeez Ogunlade.

    El-Salhy who is also the President of the African Table Tennis Federation (ATTF) described the passing on of the player as a big loss to table tennis in Africa.

    “I am so sad for such sudden news, we have really a remarkable player who represented Nigeria and Africa at both cadet and junior levels,” said Khaled El-Salhy. “My deepest condolences on behalf of African Table Tennis Federation Executive Committee are extended to the family of Azeez  Ogunlade family and the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation.”

    Like El-Salhy, Vice President of ATTF, Olabanji Oladapo said: “The death of Azeez  Ogunlade came as a rude shock to me in the US where I am currently holidaying. It is very unfortunate that ATTF had to lose such a budding star at a tender age. I commiserate with the President, Secretary-General, entire members of the board of NTTF, players, family and his friends on his demise. May we not witness such sudden death again in the federation.”

    Anan Executive Vice President, Development of ATTF, Farah Hassan Farah said: “This is a heart breaking news! ! It is shocking to hear it. On behalf of Djiboutian federation, tennis table players, and specially my son Abdourazack are join me to present their sincere sympathies to Azeez Family and President Wahid Oshodi.”

    Ogunlade died on Sunday 15th November after a brief illness; he was only 20 years old.

  • Aiyenugba condoles Enyeama over mum’s death

    Former Super Eagles and current Bnei Yehuda goalkeeper, Dele Aiyenugba has joined other football loving Nigerians in condoling with the family of Super Eagles first choice goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama over the sudden demise of his mother.

    Ayenugba, who was Enyeama’s team-mate then in Enyimba Int’l and Super Eagles days, described the mother’s death as shocking and wished the family the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss.

    “My sincere condolence goes to my good friend Vincent Enyeama over the bereavement of his mum. I urge him to take heart and continually pray for her gentle soul to rest in peace,” said the Israeli based keeper.

    “As humane I know it is painful to accept but death is inevitable and God knows the appointed time of each of us.

    “Though, losing a mother is disheartening and devastating but I pray that God Almighty will uphold the families she left behind and give them comfort”, he said.

  • Atiku condoles with El-Rufai over foster father’s death

    Former Vice President and chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) Atiku Abubakar has condoled Kaduna state governor, Mallam Nasir el- Rufai over the death of his foster father,  Mallam Yahaya Hamza.

    In a statement from his media office in Abuja, the former Vice President said he was grievously touched by the death of the former Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education.

    Atiku said Yahaya Hamza, who was also a former Secretary to the Kaduna State Government, was a distinguished educationist whose services to Nigeria would never be forgotten.

    He described the deceased as one of the finest public officials, and that his demise has robbed the public service of a humble, but patriotic and dedicated public servant.

    The former Vice President prayed to Allah to grant the deceased eternal rest in peace and strength and comfort to the el-Rufai family to bear the loss.
