  • I’m very happy’: Ronaldo confirms 4th child on the way

I’m very happy’: Ronaldo confirms 4th child on the way

Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez is pregnant with his fourth child following months of speculation.

The 32-year-old was asked by Spanish news outlet El Mundo whether he was ‘happy’ to have another child on the way, he replied: ‘Yes, very much.’

Georgina, 23, has been pictured sporting a small bump in recent months, but her mother had previously denied she was expecting.

The footballer legend has only just welcomed two new additions to his growing family following the birth of twins Mateo and Eva in June.

A couple of weeks ago, Ronaldo posted an Instagram photo standing above an assortment of family members including oldest son Cristiano Jr, sisters Elma and Katia Aveiro, older brother Hugo, mother Maria Dolores and nephew Rodrigo.

Georgina was also present, and gave credence to the now-confirmed pregnancy rumours by revealing her prominent belly as she cradled one of the twins.

Georgina, who began dating the footballer last year, is already thought to be close to Ronaldo’s twins, who are his second and third children (Cristiano Jr is seven now).

Ronaldo has admitted his newborn babies are ‘precious’ after Eva and Mateo were born via surrogate.

While the identity of his son’s mother has remained a mystery, past reports have claimed that she lived in San Diego and was allegedly paid £10million by the footballer.

Cristiano confirmed the birth of the twins officially via a Facebook post, following days of rumours.

The footballer shared the first heartwarming photograph of his twins on June 29 which he captioned: ‘Happy to be able to hold the two new loves of my life.’

A source told a Portuguese newspaper: ‘They are very happy with the arrival of the baby. Everyone adores Georgina and are satisfied with this relationship.’

Georgina is said to have caught the Portuguese heartthrob’s eye in the VIP section of a recent Dolce & Gabbana party.

It is said that they dated in secret for a few months, before going public with their romance by enjoying a date at Disneyland Paris in November.

The couple then first stepped out together publicly at the beginning of the year, when they attended the FIFA Football Awards in Zurich.

It has been reported the twins are a boy and girl, however, in one of Ronaldo’s earlier Facebook posts, the heartthrob implied both babies were male.

After Portugal failed to beat Chile in the semi-finals of the Confederations Cup tournament, he wrote: ‘I was in the service of the national team, as always, body and soul, even though my two sons were born.

‘Unfortunately, we have not been able to achieve the main sporting objective that we wanted, but I am sure we will continue to give joy to the Portuguese.

‘The President of the Portuguese Football Federation and the national picker have today had an attitude that has touched me and I will not forget.

‘I’m very happy to finally be with my children for the first time.’

Cristiano Ronaldo has introduced his newborn twins to his son Cristiano Ronaldo Jr while on holiday.

The Real Madrid star posted a picture on Instagram with him and his son holding his daughter Eva and himself clutching Mateo as they chilled out on holiday.

And along with the photo, the Portugal international posted the message ‘blessed’ as he posed with all of his children for the first time.

Ronaldo was relaxing on holiday after a long season, which culminated in his appearance at the Confederations Cup with Portugal.

The striker was able to guide his side to the semi-finals, where they lost on penalties to eventual runners-up Chile, before Ronaldo left the squad ahead of the third-place play-off win over Mexico.

The 32-year-old announced the birth of twins Mateo and Eva after the defeat to Chile, and rushed home to see them, posting his first picture with the pair on June 29.

The superstar sparked controversy after captioning a photo of himself and friend Jose Semedo as ‘black and white chocolate’.

The image of the pair topless in a swimming pool attracted over 2.7 million likes so far, Ronaldo’s comment drew criticism from some users of the picture-sharing platform.

Ronaldo still has his future at Real Madrid to sort out too, with rumours suggesting the player was unhappy following charges brought by Spanish authorities over tax fraud cases.

Chelsea agree £34.2m Rudiger deal with Roma

Chelsea and Roma have agreed a fee of £30.7million plus another £3.5m in add-ons for Antonio Rudiger.

The Germany international is in talks with the Blues ahead of his proposed move.

Chelsea are hoping to wrap up a deal to strengthen Antonio Conte’s defensive options after the manager’s initial transfer frustration this summer.

The progress on the Rudiger deal comes as a boost after Conte’s pursuit of other top targets Virgil van Dijk of Southampton and Juventus’ Leonardo Bonucci proved difficult.

The Germany international, who played a key role in last week’s Confederations Cup triumph for his country, wants to leave Italy’s Serie A after suffering racist abuse in the season just finished.

Rudiger was subjected to racial taunts from Lazio fans in the Rome derby back in March, so much so that the stadium announcer had to plea for calm.

And in December of last year, Lazio left back Senad Lulic sparked outrage in with racial remarks about Rudiger following Roma’s 2-0 win.

Lulic said: ‘Two years ago, he was selling socks and belts in Stuttgart. Now he acts like he’s some phenomenon.

Lazio were forced to apologise for Lulic’s comments at the time, but Rudiger was left upset after being repeatedly targeted. He now wants to move to England.

Conte knows Rudiger well given his vast knowledge of Serie A and explored a swoop for the central defender – who can also play right back – last summer before pushing ahead in the current window.

Chelsea are struggling to find agreement with Juventus over Alex Sandro but have asked about Real Madrid full back Danilo who is also a Juventus target.

  • Germany hit home with matching champions t-shirts

Germany hit home with matching champions t-shirts

The Confederations Cup has had its detractors – those who view it as a minor tournament, little more than a World Cup dress rehearsal.

You won’t find them among the Germany squad, who returned home on Monday after winning the competition in Russia.

The Germans featuring mostly fringe players, with several of their biggest names injured or unavailable – beat Chile 1-0 in Moscow on Sunday to win the competition for the first time.

Flying back into Frankfurt airport by national air carrier Lufthansa, Germany treated their homecoming in not too dissimilar fashion to how they returned from Brazil two years ago, having won the World Cup.

The players all wore matching white t-shirts over their clothes, bearing the word ‘Champions’ in gold capital lettering.

There was also the traditional posing on the airport steps for photographs, with stand-in captain Julian Draxler – player of the tournament in Russia having taken the armband from the absent Manuel Neuer – holding the cup.

Having posed with the main trophy, Draxler passed it on to his team mates to pose with while he retrieved his best player gong from the plane.

He was not the only one making sure of their personal trinkets, with striker Timo Werner clutching his Golden Boot for tournament top scorer.

Manager Joachim Low wore a white champion’s trophy along with his players, as he now begins preparations for returning to Russia next summer, aiming to retain the world’s highest footballing honour.

Germany impressed throughout the Confederations Cup, topping a group featuring Chile, Cameroon and Australia, beating Mexico 4-1 in the semi-final before besting the South American champions once again in the final.

  • Chile’ll claim world’s best if they beat Germany

Chile’ll claim world’s best if they beat Germany

Arturo Vidal believes Chile will stake a claim of being the best international side around if they lift the Confederations Cup on Sunday.

Vidal and his team-mates are aiming to continue a golden era for La Roja, who had never won a major honour until they beat Argentina on penalties in the final of the 2015 Copa America.

With current boss Juan Antonio Pizzi at the helm, having succeeded Jorge Sampaoli, they repeated the feat at the Copa America Centenario last year.

Another shootout victory this week over Portugal set up a meeting with world champions Germany in St Petersburg and Vidal said claims by Alexis Sanchez and Mauricio Isla that Chile were aiming for a position at the top of the elite was not idle talk.

“I do agree with Mauricio and Alexis because we are not just saying it, we’ve shown it against every single national team we’ve played against,” the Bayern Munich midfielder told a pre-match news conference at Krestovsky Stadium.

“We beat Argentina, who is one of the best national teams, two years in a row and Portugal, who are the European Champions, three days ago. And if we win tomorrow [Sunday] I think we would be the best national team in the world.

“I don’t think any of us have the possibility of a defeat in our minds. We’re optimistic for winning any challenge ahead and we are just looking forward to giving our best. I don’t think about defeat.”

Such a stance echoed the stir Vidal caused when he claimed the Under-20 World Cup side he played in alongside the likes of Sanchez, Isla and Gary Medel could win the real thing after a third-place finish in 2007.

“I remember clearly when I spoke those words and everybody was slightly scared by what we were saying,” he recalled.

“We had Alexis, Mauricio, Gary and others. Our effort has helped us to reach this final in the Confederations Cup.

“This is the waiting room for the World Cup and if we win against Germany it sends a clear message to the other teams that we are going [to the World Cup] to win it, even though we still need to qualify.”

  • Germany vs Cameroon:  Djoum sets sight on ‘big player’ Draxler

Germany vs Cameroon:  Djoum sets sight on ‘big player’ Draxler

Tough-tackling Cameroon midfielder Arnaud Djoum is relishing pitting his wits against Germany star Julian Draxler when the sides meet in the Confederations Cup on Sunday.

Hugo Broos’ African champions lost their opening match 2-0 to Chile before playing out a 1-1 draw against Australia, meaning they must beat the world champions to retain any chance of progressing to the semi-finals.

It is a tall order, although Joachim Low naming a talented but experimental squad, with many of Germany’s star names left at home, provides some grounds for optimism.

Paris Saint-Germain winger Draxler has been granted ample license to roam during Die Mannschaft’s opening two games, scoring from the penalty spot as Australia were beaten 3-2, which is likely to bring him into direct competition with Djoum – a battle the Hearts man welcomes.

“A player like Draxler is a big player and I know he will be around me,” he told Omnisport at Cameroon’s team hotel in Sochi.

“It is always good to face a player like that. Even against Chile, when you play against [Arturo] Vidal, these kind of players, it is always nice and it’s why you play football.

“You want to play against the biggest players possible and to go to the highest level as possible. I’m really happy and I just enjoy it, and I’m looking forward to this game on Sunday.

“They are all big players, stars. It is not the same team who won the World Cup, so it is something different and that’s why we have more hope that we can cause the surprise of this tournament.

“Nobody expects us to win this game so we have nothing to lose, so we will do everything to make this surprise.”

Rubbing shoulders with the likes of Draxler is nothing new for the 28-year-old Djoum, who began his international career in the Belgium youth ranks, alongside a prodigious Eden Hazard.

Even at that tender age, he had few doubts the Chelsea star was destined for the upper echelons of the sport.

“The first thing when you see him is you can directly see he has something special,” he said. “Good potential, good abilities on the pitch, even in training.

“So that is why the coach took him too us, even though he was two years younger than us he was with us. You could see that he had something.”

Djoum’s performances at Hearts, where he is contracted until 2019, have seen him linked to European clubs including Bordeaux over recent months.

  • Mexico snatch draw with Portugal in confederations cup

Mexico snatch draw with Portugal in confederations cup

Mexico claimed a 2-2 draw with Portugal in their Confederations Cup opener on Sunday.

A last-gasp equaliser by Hector Moreno saved the day for them after Cedric seemed to have won the game for the European champions with a goal five minutes from time.

Portugal had an early effort controversially disallowed by the video referees but they eventually took the lead after 34 minutes through Ricardo Quaresma.

This was after a mistake by Carlos Salcedo had let Cristiano Ronaldo through on goal.

The Portugal captain could not control the ball to shoot but his brilliant pass between three defenders left Quaresma free to round goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa and tap into the empty net.

Mexico equalised eight minutes later through a Javier Hernandez diving header after poor defending by the Portuguese.

Raphael Guerreiro miskicked a cross into the box, allowing Carlos Vela to play the ball back in for Hernandez to score.

Portugal looked to have won when Cedric fired home a deflected shot but Moreno headed home a corner in added time to give Mexico a share of the points.

“I think we were superior, we created more chances and we leave the field frustrated,’’ Cedric said. “We were always more dangerous than them, both in our organised play and on the counter attack.’’

Although Mexico had more possession, Ochoa was the busier of the two goalkeepers.

The Europeans could have taken all three points had the Video Assistant Referees (VAR) not controversially disallowed Nani’s first-half goal for offside.

Ronaldo smacked a long-range shot onto the bar and Nani picked up the rebound to volley home.

However, the VAR disallowed the goal for an offside infringement earlier in the move.

The result leaves both sides tied for second place in Group A, behind hosts Russia who top the group after beating New Zealand 2-0 on Saturday in St. Petersburg.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Russia will face Portugal and Mexico take on New Zealand on Wednesday.

  • Infantino says future of Confederations Cup uncertain

Infantino says future of Confederations Cup uncertain

FIFA President Gianni Infantino warned Saturday that the future of the Confederations Cup is uncertain beyond next year’s competition in Russia.

Speaking ahead of the draw for the 2017 tournament, Infantino says it remains unclear how and when the following edition, provisionally set for 2021, will be played.

That’s because the 2022 World Cup in Qatar will be held in November and December, meaning the Confederations Cup would cause severe disruption to the club calendar if held in its traditional slot a year before the bigger tournament.

  • Argentina’s River Plate targets Kwambe

    Argentina’s River Plate targets Kwambe

Top Argentine club River Plate has made inquiries about Nigeria defender Solomon Kwambe, MTNFootball.com reports.

African representatives of the agent Ramone Remmie told MTNFootball.com the 19-year-old right fullback who has won four full caps for Nigeria and his club Sunshine Stars have been contacted on this interest.

“River Plateis keen to sign Solomon Kwambe this summer. The club has requested for him and the discussions are going on,” Ramone disclosed to MTNFootball.com

“The player is aware and his club Sunshine stars gave us go ahead to go on with the deal. After an agreement is reached, which I believe will happen soon, he will travel to Argentina for his medical and proper signing. It is going to be a big-money move, but I can’t disclose the financial aspects now.”

Ex-Plateau United star Kwambe also confirmed he is aware of the interest from South America.

“I am aware of the interest by River Plate. Their representative called me and I asked him to go ahead, but I don’t have the full details now,” Kwambe told MTNFootball.com

Kwambe broke into the Eagles squad last year, but he failed to make the cut to 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

He was in the squad to the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil.

  • Confederations Cup a World Cup test – Mikel

Confederations Cup a World Cup test – Mikel

Super Eagles midfielder, Mikel Obi, has said Nigeria will use the ongoing Confederations Cup to test its readiness for next year’s World Cup slated for Brazil.

“It’s a good chance to see what the pitches and stadiums are like ahead of the World Cup, and hopefully we can be there in a year too,” MTNFootball.com quoted Mikel as saying on Chelsea official website.

“We have a tough group with Spain and Uruguay, but it’s a chance for us to see where we are compared to other countries, if we make the World Cup.

“This competition will be good for us to test ourselves and we will see what happens.”

Early on Sunday, the Eagles landed in Belo Horizonte after a much-publicised row over win bonuses in Namibia.

And Chelsea midfielder Mikel said participation in the Confederations Cup will put him and the Eagles in the record books.

“It makes the season a little bit longer but it’s why we play football, to be champions and play in tournaments like this, to put your name in the record books,” he said.

“I love being an African champion; it doesn’t come often for many people.

“I’m very proud of what we’ve achieved and I hope we can keep enjoying it.”

He added: “I’ve not been to Brazil before, so this will be my first chance to go and play there. It will be great because I always looked up to the Brazilian team when I was growing up. Their football has always been what everyone looks at, so I would love to go there and also see the culture and how people live.”
