Netizens donate over N2m to lady mocked for waking up at 4:50am to cook for husband

A Nigerian lady has started the year with unexpected financial blessings from X users as she shocked many with her wifey duties.

Criticism from some women propelled netizens’ donation for the lady which is now over N2 million.

The lady identified as MumZee was criticised for disclosing that she wakes up at 4.50am daily to prepare food for her husband.

She went viral after she shared on X how she started waking up at 4:50 am to cook for her husband after her husband told her his colleague brought two spoons with her food to the office so that they could eat together.

She tweeted: “I’ve always been too lazy to wake up and get his lunch ready. But the day he told me a colleague brought two spoons so he’ll eat with her was the day I set my alarm for 4:50am.”

The tweet generated controversy with females dragging her for enslaving herself.

An x user, UjuAnya, had written, “So you’re saying you rise before dawn to cook for an able-bodied adult, so that he doesn’t beg coworkers for food and fuck somebody for day-old rice and chicken.”

Another user, emelleionaire, wrote, “Just married and someone can steal him with small okro and pounded yam? So my sister in Christ, what is your war plan for when your beggar husband comes across stew that is sweeter than yours?”

Another user, Kryztanah, added: “It happens o, one happened in my office like that, guy is a young married man, girl is single, it started with girl bringing food for guy, then they became inseparable, like everyone knew they were romantically connected together”

Despite the controversy, a group of X users rallied support for her by contributing to celebrate her dedication.

Sharing screenshots of her account balance she wrote: “She’fe pami ni. I’ve never seen this amount before. I’ve been busy at the hospital, turned off DND to see this, ahhh Jesus.  Thank you all so much.

“To everyone responsible for this, I don’t have words, but I’ve cried out my heart in prayers for every one who donated, reposted and wished me well. My head hurts and I just want to sleep. Thank you all so much.

“Oh I forgot to mention that an Angel recommended me for a Virtual Assistant role, Remote, 50k monthly. What else do I want??? Amazing Mercy

While commending her, an X user, Captainchuks_81, wrote, “You went on your kneels using your office as the wife to ask God for help with a sincere heart for a loving husband and you think money is where God will stop. Brace up for more shocker, money is the least of things onise iyanu uses in showing off.”

Another user, Benn_X1 wrote, “When men find a good woman on the TL, they praise her and even contribute money for her. Nobody is thinking about ‘snatching’ her from her husband. Any man who is rumoured to be a good husband automatically becomes a target for snatching.”

“My wife and I sent your husband 50K. God has answered your prayers. I love what you seem to have in your family,” Solomon_Buchi added.

Wizrabab10 tweeted, “Nobody has said anything about whether she has Masters or PhD. Whether she works or not is blatantly irrelevant..Family values and Feminine grace.”

  • Cook: I stabbed my boss twice in the chest

A Togolese cook, Sunday Adefonou Anani, arrested for allegedly killing his boss, Chief Opeyemi Bademosi, has confessed how he committed the murder.

Police quoted him as saying that he stabbed the late Bademosi, 67, the chief executive officer of Credit Switch Ltd,   twice in the chest.

A statement yesterday by police spokesman Chike Oti said the 22-year-old suspect allegedly killed his master at their 3B, Onikoyi Lane, Parkview Estate, Ikoyi, Lagos home.

Recalling the incident that led to the death of the Ondo-born chief, the spokesman said the late business mogul on October 28 brought the suspect to Lagos to work as his cook.

Oti said: “Three days later, precisely on October 31, the suspect with the intention to rob the deceased, went to his room through the kitchen, to the lobby and then to the room, which was the scene of crime, when he observed that the deceased’s wife,  Ebunola, had left home for a transaction in a commercial bank in their neighbourhood.

“According to the suspect, when he got to the deceased’s room and met him on the bed, he said ‘Chief I am not here to kill you’. The deceased asked him, ‘what do you want?’ He replied, ‘money.’ The deceased said he had no money in the house. At that juncture, the suspect said he tied him up with a cloth and put him on the floor. He said while the deceased was on the floor, he kicked him, making the knife he tucked inside his pants to fall off. He said the deceased crawled to pick the knife, but he (suspect) was faster. He struggled with him and the knife accidentally pierced the deceased. He said when he was leaving the room, the deceased took the knife to stab him, so he kicked him and he fell. He (the suspect) then took the knife and stabbed him twice in the chest.

“He said after killing his boss, he entered his bathroom and threw away his apron already stained with blood and the kitchen knife he used to kill him. He later heard a knock on the kitchen door, sensing it must be the deceased’s wife; he ran out of the room and exited from the sitting room.

“The suspect said he was confronted by the guard, Nura Mamudu, who asked him where he was hurrying to and he replied that ‘madam sent me on an errand.’

“Finding himself in the street, he saw men loading cement into a truck. He assisted them and they rewarded him with a lift to Ondo. The truck driver gave him N500 as an appreciation.”

The police said Anani allegedly killed his boss around 8:10am.

“The deceased’s wife, Ebunola, came to the crime scene through the sitting room after knocking several times on the kitchen door without a response from the suspect. She found her husband in a pool of blood and reported the incident to the police. The deceased, a few minutes before his death, called his wife on the phone, complaining that Anani barged in on him in his bedroom. He stabbed the deceased several times in the thoracic region (chest).

“The scene of the crime, which is the deceased’s bedroom, was scattered and stained with blood. The suspect stole his Samsung phone and fled to Ondo State where he was arrested on November 2. The phone was recovered from the suspect. The kitchen knife used in killing the deceased was found inside the deceased’s toilet and the suspect’s apron was found soaked with blood at the scene of the crime,” Oti said.

He said the suspect cried and confessed to the murder after he was confronted with evidence from the Close Circuit Television (CCTV) footage.

The suspect, Oti said, led the investigation team to the crime scene and demonstrated how he carried out the crime.

“Samples recovered from the scene have been handed over to the Forensic and DNA Department of the Ministry of Justice for examination and analysis. The autopsy report attributed the cause of the death to Bilateral Haemothorax, laceration of the lung and intercostal vessels and multiple sharp force traumas to the chest,” he said.

Other suspects, Kofi Friday, Agbeko Ayenahin, Salisu Hussein and Nura Mamudu, who are not linked to the crime, Oti said, will be released to reliable sureties.

The police, he said, have established a prima facie case of robbery/murder against Anani.

Oti said: “It is evident that the suspect single-handedly committed the crime by stabbing Bademosi to death with a kitchen knife with intent to steal from him. The suspect will be arraigned.

“Police Commissioner Imohimi Edgal has directed that the casefile be duplicated and forwarded to the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) for vetting and legal advice. He said criminal investigation has gone beyond the era of rule of thumb to an era of scientific and research based investigation in the command.”

According to Oti, Anani was given a French speaking lawyer from the Office of the Public Defender (OPD), who was with him throughout the investigation.

  • Six men ‘assault’ policeman, cook over ‘missing manhood’

A tricycle rider, Babagana Mustapha, and five of his friends, were yesterday arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting a Beninoise cook and a policeman.

According to the police, the men assaulted  Mickey Dauwo and Corporal Balogun Gideon after falsely accusing the cook of causing the disappearance of Mustapha’s genitals.

Arraigned with Mustapha, 28, are Isa Hassan, 35; Kori Kambo 35; Alhaji Mustapha 40; Bulu Umar, 18; and Ismaila Babagana, 32.

They are standing trial before Mrs A.M. Davis on a three-count charge of conspiracy, assault and breach of the peace.

Prosecuting Sergeant Reuben Solomon alleged that the defendants committed the offence on March 14 at about 12:30pm on Saka Tinubu Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The defendants, he said,  conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace by raising a false alarm about missing genitals.

He alleged that the false allegation was a ploy to attack the cook.

Solomon said: “The first defendant approached the cook, Mickey Dauwo, a Benin Republic national to help him split a N100 note into N50 notes, claiming he needed it as change for his passenger.

“Immediately after Dauwo obliged him, the first defendant raised the alarm that his manhood was missing.

“When Dauwo protested his innocence, he asked Dauwo to follow him to a hospital, so that a doctor could check whether his manhood was intact. But, rather than a hospital, he led Dauwo to an uncompleted building where the five other defendants were waiting. They began attacking the cook with different weapons and caused him bodily harm.

“Corporal Balogun Gideon was passing by and saw them. When he asked what was going on, they attacked him too and injured him on the face, with one of his eyes swollen.”

    The defendants pleaded not guilty.

Magiatrate Davis granted the defendants N120,000 bail each with two sureties in the like sum.

The case continues on March 28.

  • 90 per cent of Nigerians still cook with fuel woods

Not less than 90 per cent of Nigerians still cook with fuel woods across the country, the Executive Director, Environment Rights Action/Friends of the Earth Nigeria, Dr. Godwin Ojo has said.

Ojo disclosed this during a training on energy governance and transition held yesterday in Abuja.

He said beyond the statistics above, about 53 per cent of the urban population adopt fuel woods for cooking which has contributed largely to deforestation and reduction in national forest cover.

According to him, it became important to discourage carbon emissions through the use of renewable energies such as solar energies and other renewable energy mix.

He noted that the country’s continuous dependence on fossil fuels and plants as well as generators largely contradicted its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) to reduce unconditional emission by 20 per cent and conditional reduction by 45 per cent.

Ojo emphasized that renewable energy will encourage fuel efficiency, reduce air pollution, improve health conditions and prevent potential carbon emissions.

He stressed need to discourage the World Bank and African Development (AfDB) from funding the extractive sector responsible for the promotion of fossil fuels.

“We strongly demand a national renewable energy policy to achieve the right energy mix for Nigerians and redirect attention from dirty energy such as fossils; oil and gas, coal, nuclear and energy from biofuels because of their deleterious consequences on farmers and fragile ecosystems.

To move towards just energy transition, the World Bank, Africa development bank and other financial institutions and national governments must eliminate incentives in loans and subsidies promoting extractive activities in oil and gas prospecting. Instead such investment should translate to investment in renewable energy research, green technology and the provision of loans, subsidies and zero tarrifs for solar equipment production,” Ojo added.

Speaking on delayed implementation of the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) report on the Ogoni oil spill, ERA executive director criticized federal government on the slow pace at commencing the real clean up.

  •  $5000 prize for Best Jollof rice cook in Africa

The winner of the African Jollof Rice Challenge will go home with a $5000 prize, the organisers have announced.

According to the executive Producer of Brand Television Network, (Btv), Felix King, the argument on which country has the best Jollof rice informed the contest.

This debate sprang up from a statement by Lai Muhammed, Nigeria’s Minister of Information who said, “Senegalese Jollof Rice is the best and a counter claim by Acting President Yemi Osibajo that, “We all know that Nigerian Jollof Rice is the best anywhere. We beat the Ghanaians and Senegalese hands  down.”

King said: “There is no official position yet on which country has the best Jollof rice in Africa, hence, theBtv’s desire to unravel the mystery through this contest.

‘’None of the perspectives has proved convincing, despite Nigeria’s strong claims to the African cuisine. The different viewpoints on the streets have only generated more controversies and continuous placement of different points to back up individual claims.’’

An Executive Producer withBtv, Ororo Pattaya Otono, said the challenge would start with an online recipe contest, where the best contestants would be selected for the live screening and then the grand finale. He said the programme would end at the Reward Night that would coincide with the World Jollof Rice Day on August 22.

Ororo also said: “Jollof rice was born with controversy about its true origin, the best ingredients for cooking it and where the name itself was discovered.”

To the organisers, African Jollof Rice Challenge is more of an entertainment than a contest. It’s the positive and healthy exploration of the beauty of African entertainment that makes us one big continent.  King describes the grand finale as a celebration of various African music, where African rhythm meets African Jollof Rice.

For Ororo, Jollof Rice is a unifying factor on the continent that brings us together to share great moments. Despite our differences, we have one major similarity – Jollof Rice. Hence the theme: One Africa, one Jollof rice, and different recipes.

Beyond entertainment and food values, the African Jollof rice Challenge will promote tourism, cultural exchange among African countries.

  • Obama’s grandmother to cook for president on Kenyan trip

Obama’s grandmother to cook for president on Kenyan trip

President Barack Obama’s Kenyan grandmother, known as Mama Sarah, yesterday pledged   to cook a traditional meal for her grandson when he visits the East African nation, the birthplace of his father, later this month.

“With regards to what food I will prepare for Barack on his visit, I will prepare all the traditional food available,” she said.

“It does not matter whether Barack is a senator or a president,” she added. “He will have what I have prepared for him.”

Mama Sarah was the third wife of US president’s paternal grandfather, Hussein Onyango Obama, and lives in the small village of Kogelo in western Kenya which is home to a number of the president’s relatives.

She said she had asked him to travel to Kogelo “to pay respect to his father’s grave”, but it was not clear if Obama was scheduled to travel outside the capital, Nairobi.

Obama’s late father was born in Kogelo and grew up there before travelling abroad to study, where he met Obama’s American mother in Hawaii.

Although Mama Sarah is not a blood relative, Obama calls her “granny” and has visited her in the past.

It will be Obama’s fourth visit to Africa since becoming US president, but his first to Kenya since taking office in 2009.

A presidential visit to Kenya had been put on ice, while President Uhuru Kenyatta faced charges of crimes against humanity for his role in 2007-2008 post-election violence.

The International Criminal Court has since suspended that prosecution, citing a lack of evidence and Kenya’s failure to cooperate.

After Kenya, Obama then travels on to neighbouring Ethiopia where he will become the first sitting American leader to visit. Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa, also hosts the headquarters of the African Union, the 54-nation continental bloc.

Africa’s second most populous nation held a vote in May that was described by many independent observers as flawed.

Ethiopia and Kenya have both been on the frontline of the fight against Somalia’s Al-Qaeda-allied militia, Shebab, and have been important security partners to Washington.

A cook’s best man is his governor

FOR Peter Anyiman, a cook serving Catholic Priest, Rev. Father Michael Tumba, his wedding last Saturday at Our Lady Perpetual Help Cathedral, Makurdi, Benue State, was made just a lit bit more special by the fact that his best man was Governor Gabriel Suswam.

Suswam told the guests at the wedding reception which was held at the same venue that the groom who had served Tumba in Abuja for 18 years had demonstrated commitment to his job and deserved to be honoured. He advised people to take their jobs seriously.

Putting his advice to practice, the governor took time to adjust the groom’s tie and wipe sweat from his face to the admiration of the guests who attended the ceremony.

Anyiman said he considered himself lucky to have the governor serve as his best man and could not have wished for a better wedding gift.
