  • Akala: count me out of alliance against APC candidate Adelabu

The governorship candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in Oyo State, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, has said he will not join other opposition candidates to form an alliance against the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Adebayo Adelabu.

Alao-Akala, who is a former governor, said he was not working for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate or any other for an alliance, as reported in some sections of the media.

Speaking through his campaign organisation yesterday, the ADP candidate said the reports were aimed at “misinforming and confusing our teeming supporters the world over”.

The statement by the Director General of the campaign organisation, Chief Wale Ohu, reads: “At a time, the rumour in town was that he was not serious about his governorship ambition and that he was going to play the role of a spoiler or work for another governorship candidate.

“The most recent is that he is working for the PDP governorship candidate, Seyi Makinde.

“The Akala Campaign Organisation hereby debunks all these insinuations. They are the handiwork of the propaganda machinery of the government in power in Oyo State, which is jittery and overwhelmed by the soaring popularity of Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala and to state clearly that the former governor is committed to taking the people of Oyo State out of the political mess they have been plunged by the insensitive APC government of Senator Abiola Ajimobi since he left office eight years ago.

“Otunba Alao-Akala has toured the nooks and crannies of Oyo State, taking the message of hope to the citizenry, which was received with enthusiasm by the people.

“Alao-Akala is not into any discussion, alliance or talks with the PDP governorship candidate Makinde or any other for that matter.

  • Faleke: count me out of anti-party activities

•Lawmaker alleges frame up by enemies

HOUSE of Representatives member Abiodun Faleke has alleged of a plot by his political enemies to pit him against the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He said those behind the plot have concluded plans to report him to the APC leadership, including his political mentor Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his alleged involvement in anti-party activities.

According to him, a news conference was held in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital on June 28, where a decision was taken to report his alleged involvement in the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Denouncing the allegation, Faleke said he remained committed to the All Progressives Congress (APC). He accused some agents of the Kogi State government of being behind the plot to run him down politically.

He said: “I also have it on authority that the same government agents have planned to submit a petition to the APC National Working Committee and copy my leader and mentor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, that I’m into anti-party activities in Kogi State.

“I, James Abiodun Faleke, remain a loyal founding member of the APC, and one of the members representing the people of Ikeja Federal Constituency of Lagos State.”

The lawmaker said he remained his party’s running mate in the 2015 governorship election in Kogi to the late Prince Abubakar Audu.

“Nigerians are aware of what happened in Kogi and how the present government came to be via the courts,” he added.

Faleke described as illogical, a statement credited to a Dr. John, alleging him of imposing a chairman on the Kogi State ADC, wondering how he could foist a leader on a party he does not belong to.

Faleke said: “Some state agents are the sole sponsors of this falsehood. The statement said I represent Ikeja Federal Constituency and that I’m not a member of ADC. How then can a non-member sponsor a state chairman?”

The lawmaker also accused Governor Yahaya Bello of frustrating efforts to reconcile aggrieved members of the APC members.

His words: “It’s on record that efforts by the APC leadership to reconcile the Audu/Faleke group with the Governor Yahaya Bello were turned down by the governor himself. The NWC set up two powerful committees to reconcile the two factions in Kogi, but unfortunately, Governor Bello rejected efforts.

“The Audu/Faleke team approached the Jigawa State Governor to intervene but it was not successful. Apart from sending state APC leaders to Bello, I personally sent messages to him to see the need for reconciliation with the Audu/Faleke group before the congress, but he refused.

“The Audu/Faleke name has become a political brand in Kogi. The government should pay salaries and develop the state to ensure victory for APC in the next elections.

“The death of our principal left a big vacuum that can’t be filled. And instead of the government to be magnanimous in victory, it left out those who worked for the party and appointed PDP members into offices, and also refused all efforts at reconciliation.

“Unfortunately, some of the Audu/Faleke members see my return to Lagos as a major loss for the party in the state, while some think that I have betrayed them.

“Please note that the aggrieved members of APC in Kogi are very great men and women old enough to decide what they want. I enjoin those peddling and sponsoring rumours about my involvement in the internal affairs of another party to retract such. Those government agents should have a rethink and use their energy at ensuring smooth governance in the state that can bring victory for the party.”

  • Ngige: Count me out of 2017 governorship race

Ngige: Count me out of 2017 governorship race

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, has said the people of Anambra State should count him out of the 2017 governorship election.
He said his job as a minister was challenging enough to get the better part of his attention.
The former Anambra State governor addressed reporters yesterday in Awka, the state capital, where he criticised Governor Willie Obiano for not doing enough for the state.
But he gave the names of some aspirants on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who he said had indicated interest in the governorship race.
They include the current APC National Auditor, Chief George Muoghalu; Dr Obinna Uzor, Tony Nwoye, Dr Chike Obidigbo and Sir Barth Nwibe.
Ngige said: “Yes, the Anambra election is coming up and APC will run in that election fully and effectively with all the resources within our means.
“I want to tell you that in 2017, Anambra will be an APC state. Our party won the governorship election in this state in 2010, but we were denied that opportunity. They gave it to Peter Obi (of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) because we were the opposition.
“The people know who have worked for them. APC is operating quietly. We are getting new members. Right now, there are four factions in the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). Which faction will Obiano join?
“As we speak, there are many people who have indicated interest to join (APC), not only in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but majority from APGA. We are fusing them to make a good choice for the election.
“Today, we have graduated with a PhD. No matter who we put, APC will run over APGA.”
The one-time senator, who represented Anambra Central, criticised the three flyovers recently built by the Obiano administration.
The minister said they were done without specifications, adding that an APC government would modify them.
Ngige said: “What the APGA government has done is to adulterate the good scenery we have at Quota Junction, Amawbia Roundabout and Aroma. There is no other thing we have seen in APGA government than noise-making.”
On whether or not he would vie for the governorship election next year, the minister said he already had a job that was challenging.
He said: “I have a job I’m doing for the Federal Government. I’m in charge of Labour and Employment (Ministry). I have too much on my hands to start talking about governorship in Anambra State.
“Right now, I have a powerful ministry that is challenging. My brain is working. The governorship does not concern me. But you will see me when APC picks its candidate for the 2017 election.”
He said the current recession in the country would likely end within nine months, considering Federal Government’s programmes to reduce its effects.

  • Count me out of Bayelsa guber race, says Alamieseigha

Former Governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha has distanced himself from the forthcoming governorship race in the state.

The former governor yesterday reacted to a report that he was planning to run for the governorship race on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

But speaking in a statement in Yenagoa, Alamieseigha described as complete fallacy and an act of mischief, the reports that he was interested in the race.

He said he neither nursed nor discussed such plans with anybody, and called on his supporters and the people of the state to regard the reports as the handiwork of mischief makers.

He said he remains a staunch member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and had no intention to abandon the party to seek an office under the platform of another party.

He said he would rather support and contribute to ongoing efforts at rebuilding and repositioning the PDP.

Alamieyeseigha reaffirmed his total support for the restoration administration of Mr. Seriake Dickson, and expressed satisfaction with the performance of the PDP-controlled government in the state.

He called on the people of the state to rally round the second term bid of the governor.

While reassuring Dickson of his support, especially his second term bid, he called on Bayelsans to be focused and not allow themselves to be deceived by persons, who do not mean well for the state.

“Having served my people as governor about ten years ago; I don’t have any intention to go back to Government House, after all I did not forget anything in Government House and nobody should draw me into such games,” he stated.
