No genuine COZA member struggles in life, says Fatoyinbo

The Senior Pastor of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), Biodun Fatoyinbo, has stated that genuine members won’t express struggles, citing biblical promises of goodness and mercy.

Fatoyinbo, while ministering to a congregation, encouraged believers to challenge the grace upon their lives, trusting that results will speak for themselves.

He shared his testimony of starting from scratch in Ilorin and relying on his faith to prosper.

He said: “You will never hear a genuine COZA member say ‘I dey hustle’. The bible says goodness and mercy shall follow you. You’re not the one following it. We can’t even hide it anymore. Those saying it are not listening to what I’m saying.

“I don’t take a salary from anybody. I started from Ilorin here, when I had nothing. I made up my mind that I’ll believe the scriptures.

“One of the things you can do for yourself is to make up your mind and challenge the grace upon your life. It doesn’t matter who likes you. They’ll see results in your life and say ‘wow’”.

COZA Maraba miracle cannot be minimised, says Fatoyinbo as church dedicates new auditorium

The Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA) has dedicated a new state-of-the-art worship auditorium in Maraba, Abuja, days after inaugurating another facility.

Presiding over the dedication ceremony, Dr. Modele Fatoyinbo, Co-Senior Pastor of COZA, described the Maraba church project as “a miracle you cannot minimize,” capturing the awe and spiritual significance surrounding the development.

Her words struck a chord with the thousands of worshippers, dignitaries and community leaders in attendance, many of whom were visibly moved by the pace and excellence of COZA’s growth.

Maraba, a thriving and strategically located suburb in the Federal Capital Territory, has in recent years become a beacon of infrastructural development and economic activity.

The arrival of COZA, led by Global Senior Pastors Biodun and Modele Fatoyinbo, is widely seen as a spiritual and socioeconomic boost for the area.

“This temple is not just a structure—it’s a statement,” Fatoyinbo said during her address. “A statement of God’s faithfulness, a testimony of relentless obedience, and a sanctuary for those hungry for His presence.”

The new auditorium stands as a symbol of COZA’s mission to take the gospel to every corner of the world with excellence and impact.

Designed with modern architecture, advanced multimedia technology and a vibrant atmosphere, the facility reflects the ministry’s core values of excellence, innovation, and relevance.

The event featured a powerful time of worship, heartfelt prayers, and a prophetic charge for the city of Maraba and the entire nation. In her closing remarks, Dr. Fatoyinbo urged the congregation to remain steadfast, declaring, “This is only the beginning. The work of God cannot be stopped, delayed, or denied.”

With this latest development, COZA continues to reinforce its reputation as one of the most dynamic and rapidly expanding ministries in Nigeria and beyond, raising a generation that is bold, excellent, and rooted in the Word of God.

  • COZA: Investigating team will unravel hidden issues, says CAN

The Acting General Secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Joseph Daramola, has said several hidden issues need to be unravelled in the rape allegation against the senior pastor of Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), Biodun Fatoyinbo.

He promised that the investigating team will carry out proper investigation without fear or favour.

Daramola spoke with our correspondent yesterday in Abuja, while giving an update on the rape saga.

He said: “We do not want to limit the investigation because it is very wide. We all know that there is something hidden in this issue. Without sentiment, nobody is condoning any criminal act. I am a lawyer, and before you can prove the offence of rape successfully, you have to consider so many things. You have to prove beyond every reasonable doubt before you can establish any rape case.

“One cannot easily have his way into a woman; it is not possible, and here we are talking about rape. If you look at the entire story, one has to do proper investigation.

“For example, if the court wants to look into it, a lot of things will be considered. Church elders will interrogate Fatoyinbo without fear or favour. There is no pastor that people don’t tempt. We have got to a place where our thinking faculty has to be sharpened. And we have to reason like human beings. The investigation will be concluded soon but it has to be properly conducted.”

Bishop Peter Ogunmuyiwa, the coordination Chaplin of the Ecumenical Centre, Abuja, who is also the Bishop African Church, Diocese of Abuja, said the church must conduct proper investigation.

He added: “We are on the same page on this matter. The truth is that the ministry of Jesus Christ is to save and not to destroy. And if our ministry is to save when even there is a member who has done wrong, the first thing that is to come into our mind is: how do we face the situation? Then, you deal with it in accordance with the scripture. Generally, the ministry of Christ is to redeem mankind…”

Also, CAN has defended the General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye’s presumed silence on prevailing national issues.

The umbrella Christian body said Adeboye is a member of CAN as well as Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), adding that the two Christian bodies had taken their stand on current national issues.

CAN said no one should expect the RCCG overseer to speak on the same issues that had been addressed by the two prominent Christian bodies.

CAN’s reaction is coming on the heels of alleged protest by a group of musicians on the refusal of Adeboye to comment on national issues.

A statement yesterday in Jos, the Plateau State capital, by CAN’s National Director of Legal and Public Affairs, Evangelist Kwamkur Samuel, said: “The attention of CAN has been drawn to the news of a protest led by some secular musicians  against one of our highly respected leaders of the Church, not only in Nigeria but worldwide, namely, the General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch A. Adeboye, over his purported silence on some unpleasant national issues and the call for his suspension from the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN).

“While we appreciate the concern of the protesters over the issues they raised and the call for a better nation, we strongly believe, as the umbrella body for Christians and churches in Nigeria, to which the Redeemed Christian Church of God and Pastor Adeboye belong, that to single out one of our leaders and members, to say the least, is unfair. The entire exercise, in our view, was ill-motivated.

“The people who staged this insulting protest against a highly revered servant of God in the person of Pastor Adeboye are totally ignorant of the operations of CAN. It needs to be known to all that for more than once, Pastor Adebayo has addressed the press and said that as a ‘man under authority’, he cannot speak over issues that CAN or PFN have spoken about, unless by the express permission of these two bodies.

“Our highly respected Pastor Adeboye is an unusually humble man and a man of the spirit, who has learnt to operate under authority in line with scriptural injunctions as a servant of God. He has said more than once that he cannot say anything again after CAN and PFN have spoken about issues.

“Any protest against Pastor Adeboye will be seen by us as a systematic insult against the leaders of the church in Nigeria. Why should any group of people think that it is their right to protest and demand that Pastor Adeboye should speak over the issues they listed when CAN and PFN have spoken on them?”

“…For emphasis, if we go the memory lane, for not less than three occasions, CAN has taken many of the issues which the protesters were mentioning to President Muhammadu Buhari, requesting the government to do more to get the people in captivity released, such as the remaining Chibok girls, Leah Sharibu, the captive of faith and Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, the Islamic preacher who is still kept in detention against the ruling of the court…”

The PFN also berated protesters against Pastor Adeboye.

Its President, Dr. Felix Omobude, addressed reporters yesterday in Benin, the Edo State capital.

He said: “The PFN notes with concern reports of a protest at the Redemption Camp of RCCG, said to have been organised by some musicians, asking our leader, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, to speak up against injustice.

“The group is also said to have called on the PFN to suspend Pastor Adeboye for alleged complicity in a matter completely outside his brief.

“For the avoidance of doubt and confusion that might have precipitated the unfortunate action embarked upon by this group, the PFN wishes to set the record straight with respect to the following.

“The RCCG is a founding member of the PFN and has remained loyal, active and supportive of all its actions and activities.

“Pastor Adeboye, founding father in his own right, is a past president of the PFN, having led the fellowship from 1992 to 1995.

“He remains an active member of the national advisory council, the apex administrative organ of the fellowship.

“Pastor Adeboye has been a part of the visioning and policy formulation process of the PFN, signing on to all the statements issued by the PFN on issues of national affairs.

“On the issues of concern to the group, Pastor Adeboye’s positions are exactly as have been canvassed, on numerous occasions, by the PFN.

  • COZA: CAN calls for calm over Fatoyinbo’s rape allegation

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has urged the public to allow the investigating team of its elders to make public its findings on the rape allegation against the Senior Pastor of Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), Biodun Fatoyinbo.

In a statement yesterday by its Acting General Secretary, Joseph Daramola, CAN said it resisted the temptation of jumping into any conclusion since the truth will soon be uncovered.

It said: “Since both Pastor Fatoyinbo and Mrs. Timi Dakolo are Christians, the leadership of CAN is already seeking ways to address the issues in order to heal every wound already inflicted on the parties concerned and the body of Christ in general. It is our hope that steps which will exacerbate the current damages already done will be avoided. As we seek the help of CAN Elders and the Holy Spirit in resolving the current problem, it is our prayer that both parties will sheathe their swords and stop the media war in the interest of the Church and for the greater glory of God.”

The statement reads: “The leadership of CAN is seriously concerned about the disturbing situation concerning Pastor Fatoyinbo, the General Overseer of COZA, one of our leading pastors in the country, on whom allegations of rape has been levelled by one of our daughters, Mrs Timi Dakolo.

“It is disheartening how some commentators and columnists have been insulting the Body of Christ in Nigeria as a result of this incident. Like we have earlier stated, it doesn’t matter who is involved, rape is ungodly and reprehensible. But we have resisted the temptation to jump into any conclusion since a body like ours will be expected to have uncovered the truth about any matter before making public statements and not base its position merely upon media reports. Although we have disclosed that Pastor Fatoyinbo’s church has not been an active member of CAN, that does not put the church outside the spiritual watch-care of CAN.

“CAN is the umbrella body for every Christian and Church in Nigeria. Jesus Christ, the Head of the Church, does not turn back anyone that comes to Him and CAN also does not. The Ministry of the Church, according to Jesus Christ, is the Ministry of Reconciliation, which is centred on true love and forgiveness of those who repent.”

“The Bible states it clearly that ‘God demonstrates His own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.’ (Romans 5:8, 11). Having reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, God has committed to us the ministry of reconciling the world unto Himself and to one another (2 Corinthians 5:19-21).”

  • The COZA pastor and his cross

It seems a bit calm now. With the last of the protesters receding from the street to join their colleagues on the social media, and echoes of their rambunctious outing reverberating across the land, it is now fit and proper to examine dispassionately the rape allegation against Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA) Senior Pastor Abiodun Fatoyinbo.

Perhaps it would have been ignored, like many of such grave allegations hurled around all the time, but  this was not just another mudslinging from a nonentity. It was coming from a somewhat credible source – Bisola, wife of songster Timi Dakolo. The story is well known; no need to recount here some of its raw, salacious details, this being a family newspaper, so as not to offend the sensibility of our dear readers.

A young girl attends church faithfully. She gets noticed by the pastor who is also close to her family. One cold morning when nature is still trying to rouse everybody from sleep, the pastor shows up at the door, pushes the young girl, who is in her night wear, onto a chair, shuts her mouth and rapes her. She is all tears after the bloody action. The “man of God” rushes outside to his car to fetch a bottle of the soft drink Krest (Bitter Lemon) and offers the krestfallen –sorry; an error there – crestfallen girl the drink. She gulps it down her dry throat.

“You should be happy that I did this to you,” Mrs Dakolo quotes “the man of God” as saying. A few days after, he did it again – on the bonnet of his car. Twice in one week. Fast forward many years after and hundreds of kilometers away from Ilorin, the scene of the action, to Abuja. Mrs Dakolo and her husband are strong members of COZA.

Then, Mrs Dakolo, suddenly realises that there is a void in her heart. She has been fighting a long- time battle in her troubled mind – the psychological and traumatic effect of being raped some 17 years ago, allegedly by the very man who has been her spiritual guide. She decides to tell her story.

Enter the activists. Anger. Curses. Abuses. Rage. An anti-Fatoyinbo coalition sprouts in Lagos and burgeons in Abuja, demanding that the pastor steps aside.

Fatoyinbo quits, even as he denies it all. He is threatening to launch a legal battle to reaffirm his badly shaken integrity. His wife is standing solidly by him, insisting that even as an unbeliever her man would not rape a woman. Truly, Fatoyinbo is good looking; tall like a basketball star, a cherubic face and a fine sartorial taste – in a world in which good looks is everything and character counts for little.

It all seems like some Hollywood stuff, full of action and drama, romance, spiced with moving scenes of love, sex, betrayal of trust by a spiritual guardian, a shepherd who failed the test of fidelity in matters of concupiscence, his escapades becoming the stuff of campus cultism legend.

Rape is a despicable crime for which a convict deserves no pity. It is fine that the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has shown interest in the matter. If Fatoyinbo did it, he should carry the can by admitting his erotic error, apologising first to the victim and her family, then to his flock and his own family and surrendering himself for prosecution before embarking on a purgatory to free his soul of such devious conducts. That is the least the society expects from a man our youngsters follow with so much passion.

But, wait a minute; just a note of caution – these are mere allegations, which require a cast-iron evidence to prove. There have been stories of what his critics swear is Fatoyinbo’s horrid past, including, they insist, his sexual peccadilloes. Again, some of the details are, considering their vulgarity, not fit to be published here.

Should a pastor, who is deemed to have been successful in his calling – I have no skill to judge if he was, in fact and indeed, called – be mobbed because of his sordid past, which he may have renounced? Consider II Cor. 5:17: “If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things are become new.”

In other words, is Fatoyinbo being judged by his past or present libidinous peregrinations? If he refuses to confess, what next? Will the Dakolos sue? Rape is often tough to prove. Many abandon their cases after being cross examined by lawyers who ask all manner of embarrassing questions. A weak accuser often breaks down under cross-examination by lawyers.

“What is your proof? Was there a witness? Were you protesting all through? Were you screaming or moaning or murmuring or crying or swearing?  How did you feel during the act and after? Tearful? Can I put it to you that those were tears of joy? Did you report to the police? Where is the medical report?

How many boyfriends do you have? Do you agree that my client is a handsome man with whom any woman would not mind lying in bed? I put it to you that he got your consent to do it; you are merely a gold digger who is envious of his being a ladies’ man.” Easy to handle? Not at all.

Those who see the Fatoyinbo scandal as a metaphor for what they think are church leaders’ calamitous conducts are damn wrong. We have a large army of good Christian leaders; the bad eggs are few. We also have them in other faiths. No need to gloat. This is part of our human foibles.

When rape is proved, the convict hardly recovers; the victim feels good that justice has been done. Perhaps “Iron” Mike Tyson, the ex-boxing champion, would not have lost it all if he had not been jailed for raping beauty queen Desiree Washington. Former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn got into trouble for allegedly having a coerced sexual relationship with an employee. He got off the hook with a payoff. His wife dismissed it all as “a one- night stand, which is now behind us”.

A varsity teacher got his glittering academic career shattered after demanding sex to pass a student.  Richard Iyiola Akindele, a professor at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), is serving a six-year jail term. He joins a long list of men who found trouble on the hot laps of women, even if they did not rape them. Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky.  Samson and Delilah. David and Uriah’s wife. Fidelis Oyakhilome, the anti-drug czar, and Jennifer Madike. Sani Abacha and the yet unknown Indian women. Paul Wolfowitz, the ex-World Bank chief and an employee. And many others.

Poor Mrs Dakolo. Considering the world we live in nowadays, she may well find a huge redeeming window in all this. She may soon hit the lecture circuit, telling her story, encouraging abused women to speak out and, of course, making money, even as she solidifies her marital felicity. Talk of some fortune in a misfortune. Didn’t the bard say “sweet are the uses of adversity”?

A group of young lawyers have found an opportunity for their trade in Mrs Dakolo’s story. A friend sent me yesterday a copy of a legal agreement they have drafted for men who will demand that women should sign before having any intimate relationship (apology to Mr Clinton, aforementioned) with them.  The title is “Agreement Before Action”. “I, Mrs/Miss…, of the following address (hereinafter referred to as the …) …certify that I am above 18, that I am not being forced to do this; that I am not under the influence of alcohol or any narcotic; that I am neither asleep nor drunk; that I will never make a case against Mr…now or in the future… Signed on this…day of …(month) …(year) at …(a.m/p.m).” Every randy man is encouraged to always have a copy in his pocket.

    Will this promote peace?

    …And unruly Senator Abbo

THE police have invited Senator Elisha Abbo of whom neither the biblical Elisha nor the good people of Adamawa North will be proud, considering his assault of a nursing mother in an Abuja adult toys shop. The distinguished senator says the video in which he is shown slapping the woman repeatedly and ordering her arrest was doctored.

That was before he, apparently realising that the game was up, apologised late yesterday.

The Senate ordered an investigation. Needless. This is a simple police matter. Let the senator make a statement and, if a “prima facie” case is established, he should be charged to court.

We have always found a way to cope with the pandemonium that sometimes occurs on the floor of the Senate and what some people believe is our lawmakers’ predilection for wild libidinous attitudes (underage marriage, obscene language and all that); now we have to stop them from fighting in an adult toy’s shop–a euphemism for the home of sex toys.

Abbo claims that the woman he assaulted said he was drunk. Was slapping her and behaving as if on drug the right way to show that he had not hit the bottle too hard?

How about the policeman who aided and abetted this action?

Some people have argued that Abbo is immature, adding that he has betrayed “Not-too-young-to-run” campaigners. They say he is abusing the privilege thrust on him by fate, that unseen hand in human affairs.

He is in Abuja visiting adult toy shops while his mates are selling live chickens and mobile phone recharge cards on the streets of Yola.

No doubt, this Elisha is no prophet. Neither was he called. He has regretted his action. If the assaulted woman would not press charges, he should be let off the hook.

    All’s well that ends well.

    Majek Fashek slams Daddy Freeze

Reggae musician, Majek Fashek has called out controversial On Air Personality (OAP), Ifedayo Olarinde a.k.a Daddy Freeze for his strong disapproval of his recent performance at a church concert in Abuja.

Majek the ‘Rainmaker’, who before now had not performed at faith based events, did on Sunday December 17, at the Common wealth Of Zion Assembly ( COZA ) Christmas Carol in Guzape, Abuja.

Freeze, who also recently condemned the practice of ‘Tithing’ in churches said it made no sense for a secular artiste like Majek to perform in such gathering as Christian altars are supposed to be sacred.

However, Majek Fashek’s manager, Uzoma Omenka, in a video on Instagram, rebuked Freeze saying that nothing was wrong with a secular artiste performing in church.

“There is nothing wrong with a world class legend Majek Fashek whose music sends the right message to be invited to perform in any church.

“To Daddy Freeze, you need to do your research properly before wagging your mouth and speaking like a Kid,” he said.
“@biodunfatoyinbo thank you once more for impacting positively into the lives of Young Nigerians and making them believe in themselves.”

Freeze had taken to his Instagram to condemn the rainmaker crooner over the concert saying: “I am still searching for the sense in this. I am a huge Majek fan, but do I want to see him perform in a church.

“Can Majek perform inside the `Okija’ shrine? or the `soppona’ or `ayelala’ shrine?

Popular blogger Ese Walters, on February 15, bade goodbye to spinsterhood when she married to Cool FM’s Benny Ark in Abuja.

Ese, who many describe as a controversial blogger, became popular last August when she published intimate details of her affair with Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo, in an article entitled: My Affair with Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of CommonWealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), Abuja

Her alleged affair with the pastor caused a ripple, particularly in the Christendom.

Though she alleged that she was seduced by her pastor and admitted to having an affair with him, she said she was always pricked by her conscience whenever she sees the pastor preaching.
