    FCT gets new Commissioner of Police 

    Commissioner of Police, CP Sadiq Abubakar Bello has resumed duty at the FCT Police Command Headquarters as the new police chief.

    Bello took over from CP Musa Kimo who has been redeployed.

    CP Bello who holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from Bayero University Kano (BUK) was appointed into the Nigeria Police Force in 1988 as Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).

    Prior to his recent posting to the FCT Police Command, CP Sadiq Abubakar Bello was the immediate past Commissioner of Police Nasarawa State Police Command.

    Details of some of his achievement are contained in a statement in Abuja yesterday by the Command Spokesman, DSP Anjuguri Manzah.

    “He is a seasoned Police officer who has served the Nigeria Police Force in different capacities. He is an alumni of the renowned Kofi Anan International Peace Keeping Centre, Accra Ghana. His Foreign Mission experience include: International Police Task Force, Bosnia and Africa Mission in Sudan (Darfur).

    “In the course of his policing career, CP Sadiq Abubakar Bello has attended many foreign and local courses, some of which include: Junior Command Course (JCC), Intermediate Command Course (ICC), Senior Command Course (SCC), Advance Detective Course (ADC), Intelligence Course and numerous others.

    Some of his postings include: “Assistant Commissioner of Police, Criminal Investigation Department Kwara State Police Command; Assistant Commissioner of Police, General Investigation Force CID Abuja; Deputy Commissioner of Police, Special Protection Unit (SPU), Deputy Commissioner of Police, second in Command Edo State Police Command, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Finance and Administration FCT Police Command; and Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Police Command.”

    CP Sadiq Abubakar Bello while assuring FCT residents of his willingness to partner with spirited individuals, groups and all security agencies, enjoined resident of FCT to support the Command with information.

    He also noted that the Command under his stewardship will evolve novel strategies that will build on the gains of his predecessor and make the Federal Capital Territory safe and secure for all.

    Jonathan’s home: Police dismisses four for theft

    The FCT Police Command has dismissed four policemen for their involvement in the theft of property belonging to former President Goodluck Jonathan.

    The policemen who were on guard duty at the Gwarinpa residence of Jonathan stole movable items including furniture sets, beds, electronics, toilet electrical fittings and internal doors and frames.

    The affected men were dismissed after an Orderly Room trial.

    The dismissed policemen are; F/No. 436691 Sgt Musa Musa, F/No. 235422 Sgt John Nanpak, F/No. 261898 Sgt Ogah Audu and F/No. 425210 Sgt Gabriel Ugah.

    The police also  said the case of two other policemen, AP/No.141199 Inspr Lengs Satlakau and AP/No. 150566 Inspr Usman Wuduki  involved in theft has been forwarded to AIG Zone 7 for further action.

    This is contained in a statement in Abuja Thursday by the Command Spokesman, DSP Anjuguri Manzah.

    The Command explained that their dismissal was in compliance with the vision of IGP Ibrahim Idris to rid the Nigeria Police Force of criminal elements.

    The statement reads: “In fulfilment of the promise by the FCT Police Command to make public its findings on the investigation of the case of theft at the Gwarimpa residence of Former president, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, the Command wishes to state that in line with first schedule of police Act and regulation 370 Cap 19, the Policemen guarding the house have been tried in an orderly room proceeding and found culpable of the offence.

    “Sequel to the out-come of the orderly room proceeding, the Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Musa Kimo has approved the immediate dismissal of the Policemen.”

    The Command while stating that the main culprit, Sgt. Musa would be charged to court upon completion of investigation added that efforts are being intensified to arrest his accomplice, Mallam Shuaibu who is currently at large.

    Police arrest suspected Boko Haram member in Abuja

    The FCT Police Command have arrested a suspected member of Boko Haram.

    The suspects, Seth Yakubu; an indigene of Obi Local Government Area of Nassarawa State was arrested on Sunday after the Police received a tip-off of his suspicious behaviour.

    The police said the suspect confessed to being the second in Command in his unit adding that he fled Sambisa Forest after the major air strike by the Nigeria Air Force.

    Breifing Journalists in Abuja Monday about Yakubu’s operation, the Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Musa Kimo said: “Yesterday at 11:30am, Seth Yakubu was arrested at Gwako village in Gwagwalada Council of the FCT after the Police received a tip-off of his suspicious and strange behaviour by community members.

    “Upon interrogation, he confessed to his membership of the Boko Haram group. He said he escaped to the village from Sambisa Forest after their hideout was dislodged by the Nigeria Air Force through major air strikes about a week ago.

    “He also confessed to being the Second in Command in his unit adding that he actively participated in several deadly attacks launched by the group against innocent citizens.
    “He left Maiduguri on Friday and arrived Gwako village on Saturday at about 10:00am to conceal his identity and seek for refuge.”

    Kimo added that the suspect said he was lured to join the group in October 2016 by a young man who approached him with a promise of an automatic employment into the Nigeria Army.

    The CP while warning desperate job seekers to be careful of where they seek employment added that investigation was ongoing and the suspect would be arraigned in court upon completion of investigation.

    Speaking on how he joined the group, Yakubu said: “I was given Army recruitment form to fill last year and after I filled it, I sent it back to my friend who in turn returned it to the person who gave the form to him.

    “On the 10th of October, they promised to take us down to Zaria for training and I went to Zaria for Army training. After we were done with the training, they gave us a substance to take. They told us that it would change our mindset.

    “After we took the substance, they told us that we were not recruits of the Nigeria Army but that we are amongst those that would assist Boko Haram fight Nigeria Army in order to turn the whole state and the country into an Islamic country.”

    When asked where the training was conducted, Yakubu said: “We were trained in a depot in Zaria”.

    Police recovers 109 cows, 29 sheep; others from armed robbers

    The FCT Police Command have recovered 109 cows, 29 sheep and others from an armed robbery gang that specialize in cattle rustling.

    The police also recovered one pump action gun and two live cartridges from the gang.

    According to the police, the recovery was made after a gun battle between members of the gang and operatives of the Police.

    The gun battle according to a statement in Abuja Thursday by the FCT Command Spokesman, DSP Anjuguri Manzah led to the death of one of gang members and fleeing of other members.

    The statement reads: “Poised to combat crime and frustrate criminals out of circulation, a gallant teamof Police operatives attached to Kwali Divisional Headquarters on patrol at Kwali village has dislodged and recovered one pump action gun, two live cartridges, 109 cows and 29 sheep from a dare devil armed robbery syndicate which specialises in cattle rustling.

    “The syndicate which was reported to have rustled some cows and sheep from a community in Niger state were intercepted at Kwali village on Wednesday 26/04/17 at about 1:00amwhere a fierce gun battle ensued between them and the Police patrol team.

    “As a result of the professionalism, gallantry and superior gun power of the Police Patrol team, one of the hoodlums was shot dead while five of his accomplices fled the scene with varying degree of bullet wounds.”

    The commissioner of Police FCT, CP Musa Kimo has however ordered for a massive manhunt for the fleeing suspects.

    He also commended the Police operatives for their bravery and gallantry that led to the dislodging of the notorious cattle rustling syndicate.
