    Police arrest man for kidnapping two children in Ogun 

    The Ogun State Police Command said it has  arrested one Abiodun Joseph for kidnapping two children  – Tobiloba Aleshiloye(12) and Yussuf Kudus( 8).

    The suspect who resides at Cananland in Sango Ota, was said to have abducted the two children on September 15, 2017 and took them to unknown place where he started heckling the parents of the children to pay the sum of N150,000 per child as ransom for their freedom.

    The Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who made this known to The Nation in a statement, stated that the case was reported at the Agbara Division where Detectives were  detailed to trail the suspect.

    Abimbola noted that upon Technical investigation conducted at the hideout of the suspect in a hotel at the Ojoo area of Ibadan and subsequent swoop on the area by the Police, led to the arrest of the suspect and rescue of victims unhurt.

    The Police Image maker in the state added that the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu has directed that the case be transferred to the Anti-kidnapping/Cultist Unit of the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (CIID) while the children have been re-united with their parents.

    He appealed to members of the public to take security of their children serious to avoid their being victims of kidnappers.

    11 arrested over cult-related killings in Kwara

    The police in Kwara have arrested 11 suspects  over cult-related killings and clashes in the state, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

    NAN gathered that the suspects were arrested by  operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (CIID).

    A police source told NAN in Ilorin on Monday that those arrested were suspected  members of the Eiye and Aiye confraternities.

    According to the source, the suspects were  arrested at their hide out in Kulende area of  Ilorin following a marching  order for their arrest  by the Police Commissioner, Ado Lawan.

    The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi,  confirmed the arrest of the 11 suspects.

    He said the police would not relent  until the state was rid of cultism and other crimes.

    NAN recalls that the Ilorin Emirate Descendant Union (IEDPU) had revealed that nearly 30 people had been killed  by cultists within the last six  months.

    The National President of the union, Alhaji Abdulhammed Adi, who spoke at a stakeholders meeting  in Ilorin, expressed concern on the rise in  cult-related  killings in the state.

  • Notorious armed bandit killed in Zamfara

    The Police on Monday in Zamfara said that a suspected armed bandit, one Sani Abdullahi, had been killed in a gunbattle with security agents.

    The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Shaba Alkali, told newsmen in Gusau that the suspect died during gun battle when a group of bandits attacked Yartukunya village in Bungudu Local Government Area of the state.

    “We also recovered one AK 47 rifle from the deceased suspect,” Alkali said.

    Alkali also said that the command had also arrested nine illegal miners in Gemawa village of Talata-Mafara local government area of the state.

    “We had also recovered exhibits from the suspects such as the cash of N90, 000 given to our policemen as bribe, mining materials such as mining detectors, diggers, shovels and head pans,” Alkali said.

    He advised residents of the state against engaging themselves in unlawful activities, especially mining as it had security and public health implications

    According to Alkali, the team of detectives of the command’s Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (CIID) also arrested four suspected criminals in Gusau metropolis.

    “During our investigation, we discovered 84 handsets of different types, SIM and memory cards and cash of N111, 420.

    “On 29 April, 2017, we arrested a student of Abdu-Gusau Polytechnic, Talata-Mafara connected with the killing of another student, Imrana Nasiru,” he said.

    Alkali said all the suspects would be arraigned after investigation by the command.

    He commended the public for giving information to the police about criminal activities, saying that all the arrests made by the command were due to the support of the public.

    Alkali urged the public to continue to cooperate and give useful information on criminals to the police to sustain peace and stability in the state.

     

  • FCT Police arrest five armed robbery suspects

    The FCT Police Command said on Tuesday that it had arrested five notorious armed robbery suspects and a car snatching syndicate.

    The suspects are: John Peter, 30, gang leader, Solomon Atabo, 33, Salisu Suleiman, 29, Olobo Rilwan, 25, and Emeka Umera, 34.

    The FCT Police Commissioner, Mr. Musa Kimo, who presented the suspect to newsmen, said they were arrested through the inter-agency collaboration initiative of the command.

    He explained that Peter was arrested by the police after he went into hiding on hearing that four of his members were arrested on March 6 by the Army and transferred to the command for investigation.

    Kimo said that eight locally made pistols used for the operation were recovered from the suspects.

    He said that the suspects who had all confessed to the crime would be charged to court on conclusion of investigation.

    In a related development, Kimo said the police had arrested an armed robbery/murder suspect, Obinna Echianu, 42, who hailed from  Aba in  Abia.

    Kimo said that the suspect was arrested by police attached to the command’s special anti-kidnapping squad at Apo mechanic village, Abuja on March 13.

    He said the suspect killed a cab operator who he hired on Dec. 22, 2016 at the Berger junction to convey him and his members now at large, to Airport road in Abuja.

    Kimo said the victim was murdered at the Gosa pedestrian bridge after being robbed of his phone, cash and Nissan Almera car which was driven to his house in Aba.

    The commissioner said the suspect confessed to have personally killed the deceased with the help of his cohort who was at large.

    “Efforts have been intensified to arrest his cohort who is now at large,“he said.

    Kimo said the suspect would be arraigned in court on conclusion of investigation into the crime.

    The commissioner said that the command had also arrested four suspected kidnappers linked with the kidnapping of a Fulani girl at Wumi village, in Gwagwalada area of Abuja on March 19.

    The suspects are : Abdullahi Sanda, 25, Abubakar Muhammad,30, Shehu Usman, 30, and Usman Abubakar.

    He said that the suspects were arrested with one locally made revolver and two locally made single barrel gun.

    Kimo said that the suspects were members of a notorious syndicate of kidnappers and cattle rustlers who specialised in laying siege at Fulani settlements to take their victims.

    He added that the suspects were intercepted and arrested at Wumi while trying to escape after kidnapping one of their female victims who was rescued by the police.

    “The suspects have been transferred to the command special anti-kidnapping squad for further investigation,” he said.

    Other suspects arrested according to the commissioner included eight members of a cult.

    The suspects are: Emeka Ani, Felix Oje, Promise Ezubuike, Efiong Chidi, Paul Chinedu, David Elkana,Ikechukwu Okoro and Osinachi Anyanwu.

    He said the suspects were arrested on March 23 by the police attached to Karimo division, after a tip-off from members of Angwan Shehu village in Karmo, Abuja.

    Kimo said the suspects had been terrorising and robbing the residents of the village.

    He said that items recovered from them include one pick axe and a beret.

    He said the suspects had been transferred to the command’s Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (CIID) for discreet investigation  and prosecution.

    The commissioner said that the achievements were a result of hard work and dedication of the command to fulfill its constitutional mandate.

    He commended the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, for his unflinching support to the command.
