    CCC Oko-Agbon to hold crusade

A one-day revival crusade themed “Freedom from Affliction” will be held on Friday 22nd March in the Oko- Agbon area in Sabo, Yaba, Lagos. The crusade being organised by the Celestial Church of God, Olaiya Bethel Parish, will feature over eight great anointed men of God.

According to the organisers, the crusade is targeted at setting people free from various afflictions that may have been affecting them for several years.

According to the Shepherd-in-Charge, Olaiya Bethel Parish, Prophet Olaiya Daniel, the crusade will lighten up the Oko-Agbon area of the state and captives will be set free from various afflictions that may be holding them down.

“It will be a refreshing time before the Lord and afflictions shall not rise again in the lives of God’s people. The Lord is set to liberate His people, therefore I enjoin everyone to meet with the Lord at this special open ground crusade believing that there is nothing impossible for the Lord to do,” Daniel said.

In a similar vein, the Assistant Shepherd-in-Charge, Prophet Olusola Fatunke, said the Bible text for the crusade is taken from the book of Nahum 1:12. Fatunke assured that the mighty power of God is set to restore his people as long as they are ready to meet with him.

“The Lord’s promise to us is that the Egyptian we see today we shall see no more. The Lord delivered the Israelites from the land of Egypt; by His mighty power, He parted the Red Sea for the Israelites to cross to safety. This same power of God is still available to set His people free from any form of affliction at this one-day power crusade,” Fatunke said.

A member of the organizing committee, Prophetess Imoleayo Bankole, urged the general public to always remember that the power of God as of the days of old is still in abundance today. She assured that God is waiting to set captives free and break all forms of shackles of oppression or bondage in anyone’s life.

“Come and be set free and give your life meaning,” Bankole said, adding that it promises to be a refreshing time before the Lord.

  • 10 injured as youths disrupt crusade in Niger

No fewer than ten persons were injured when scores of irate youths disrupted a religious crusade organised by a convert in Tegina town of Niger state.

The crusade was said to have been organised by Prophet Shuaibu Bashir, who is believed to be from a royal family in Sokoto state.

It was learnt he had been converting people and healing the sick in most of the crusades he held.

Barely had the crusade kicked off on Monday evening when some youths belonging to the opposite religion stormed the venue, beating up worshippers.

According to eyewitness reports, the youths beat up those in attendance with different objects, causing them to scamper for safety.

Ten people were injured in the process with five vehicles destroyed.

Two motorcycles were also taken away from the venue of the crusade.

The organisers decried the attack, saying they had obtained permits from the Police and Emir before proceeding with the crusade.

The Niger state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Muhammad Abubakar, who confirmed the attack, said only five people were injured.

He however said no arrest had been made in connection with the incident as the youths fled on arrival of the police.

He informed none of the people could recognise any of the attackers.

Abubakar however assured the police was on top of the case.

  • Still on the crusade for restructuring

Sir: There has been a rising hue and cry from some quarters, in recent times, about the need to restructure the current configuration of the Nigerian state. Besides the bona fide proponents of this crusade, some fair-weather politicians have also disingenuously aligned themselves with the thrust of this drive, with the ulterior motive of inveigling themselves into the affection of the supporters of the crusaders.

The true proponents of this drive believe that the existence of the sovereign state called Nigeria, from the amalgamation of its protectorates in 1914 to its attainment of the status of a republic in 1963 and down to its current status quo, has been a mere charade choreographed by the West. They regard the co-existence of the enclaves that constitute Nigeria as a marriage of convenience. This marriage of convenience, according to these crusaders, not only provided the foundation for the current lopsidedness in the allocation and distribution of the common wealth of the nation, but also gave unfair advantages to the northern region at the expense of other enclaves.

Unfortunately, this restructuring drive has precipitated some inclinations which have culminated in chains of gory events in the country’s history. From the secessionist propaganda in the south-east to the militant restiveness in the south-south, the waves of the restructuring crusade have been rocking the ship of the Nigerian state. Perhaps as a reprisal move to emphasize their place as a bona fide enclave and de jure beneficiaries of the nation’s extant configuration, some folks in the north have entrenched terrorist cells in their domain.

Truly, the current structure of the Nigerian state, in terms of allocation and control of resources, distribution of the common wealth, wielding of political powers, management of state-owned institutions and suchlike, is grotesquely lopsided. Thus, the call for the restructuring of the status quo is not out of place. However, an objective assessment of the existence of Nigeria and how it has fared within the confines of the extant structure reveals a more pressing imperative than the current call for physical restructuring. It is the need for psychical restructuring by Nigerians, especially the ruling class.

A holistic evaluation of the chequered history of Nigeria reveals the greatest challenge bedevelling the country- the dearth of moral scruples on the part of its leaders. The real bane of Nigeria is not much of the extant configuration; rather, it is the self-defeating leadership styles and the avaricious mindsets of its leaders. Nigerian politics no longer makes much appeal to the interest of genuine analysts and the literati in general. It has become boring, commonplace and predictable. Pettiness, frivolities and avarice have supplanted the real essence of governance in the country’s political amphitheatre. The recent waves of political shenanigans in Lagos, Ogun, Osun, Ekiti, Ondo and Imo states, as well as in the National Assembly attest to the moral depravity of most Nigerian politicians.

Without mincing words, Nigerian politicians require psychical restructuring. Unless there is moral rebirth on the part of our leaders, no meaningful and enduring physical restructuring can be achieved. A nation where politicians exhibit flagrant disregard for the rule of law; give a premium to personal interest at the expense of national interest; epitomize the ills and the evil they profess to stamp out; resort to hypocrisy and mendacity, as well as gerrymandering, in order to perpetuate their political reigns; and create virtual impregnable empires that protect them and their cronies from the laws of the land; moral rebirth is sine qua non for enduring physical restructuring.

It should be reckoned that a true nation is not defined by the ability of its enclaves to make even contributions to its common wealth. True nationhood is defined by common ideology and purpose, and the resolve to run a system that is truly egalitarian. A true nation is poised to fairly harness its resources and utilize them for the general good. It appreciates the strengths and weaknesses of its enclaves, while ensuring that the better endowed units make up for the inadequacies of the less endowed ones. Suffice it to say that the key hallmarks of a true nation are patriotism and egalitarianism.

It is undeniable that the current structure of the Nigerian state is skewed. Thus, the call for restructuring the status quo is justifiable. However, it is imperative that, first and foremost, moral rebirth be attained by Nigerian leaders, in order to create the right platform for the masses to reap the dividends of such restructuring. Achieving the thrust of the current restructuring drive otherwise will only open a Pandora’s Box.

A former Federal Commissioner in the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Chief Deji Fasuan, has hailed President Muhammadu Buhari for his administration’s fight against corruption.

He urged Nigerians to support the President to ensure that the war is won and the nation’s stolen commonwealth recovered.

The retired permanent secretary spoke yesterday in Ado-Ekiti, the capital, ahead of his conferment with a chieftaincy title at his hometown, Afao-Ekiti, on Saturday.

Fasuan will be installed as the Asiwaju of Afao by the Alafao, Oba Joseph Ademilua, for his development efforts.

The elder statesman said he was fulfilled to be honoured by his communities after receiving eight titles from prominent rulers in Ekiti and Kwara states.

  • ‘God will move through Bonnke’s farewell crusade’

‘God will move through Bonnke’s farewell crusade’

Chairman Central Working Committee (CWC) for Reinhard Bonnke’s Farewell Crusade, Apostle Alexander Bamgbola, speaks with Dorcas Egede on the significance of the crusade. Excerpts:

How did you become chairman of the farewell crusade?

I’m always called on by God for every job He wants me to do. I am the chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Lagos state and I never solicited for it. I was called upon to do the job.

Before that for five years, I was the chairman for Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) in Lagos state. I was also called upon to do the job. So, it’s God who always sends for me when He needs me to do a job.

When I was called upon to be chairman of CWC, I got the message that all the Christian fathers and mothers in a consensus, decided that I should be chairman at the crusade when Evangelist Reinhard Bonnke informed them that he was going to have his last crusade as the Lord led him. So, that’s the way it came; it came from God.

How has it been organising the crusade within a very limited time?

Ah! It’s really tough. A crusade of this magnitude would normally take about a year or a minimum of nine months to organise. But because of the time the Lord spoke to Evangelist Reinhard Bonnke about the first quarter of the year and the time it took for him to come and inform the Christian leaders in Nigeria.

This crusade has been planned in the shortest time possible but you see with God all things are possible and there is nothing impossible for God. It doesn’t take God years to do anything. It takes Him one minute to do whatever He wants to do.

For as long as God is involved, you can be sure that the whole thing is about Him, it’s to glorify His name and so even the things that look difficult or impossible, He’s there to handle them.

Crusades have been held in this country which ended in controversies. How sure are you this will not end up like one of those controversial crusades?

Well, one thing about Reinhard Bonnke’s crusades in all the nations and in Nigeria is there are never marked by crisis. His first crusade in Nigeria was in 1985; since that time he held in Lagos 2000 and later in 2006.

He was in Owerri, Calabar, Port- Harcourt. The only one that so far witnessed any problem was in Kano, following the one in Kaduna where there were a lot of healings, where the cripples were rising up and walking.

And so in Kano they were scared that if there was a repeat performance of what happened in Kaduna, Muslims would begin to follow Bonnke and that why they rose up then to attack the crusade.

Granted, there have been crusades marred by controversies. The Benny Hinn crusade is a classical example. Controversies arise because of money but by the grace of God that cannot be heard in this crusade.

This time around, as the chairman of the crusade, I’m being very careful. I’m not being hypocritical here. People in the church know my background and they know the kind of man I am. I was Managing Director of two different banks.

I was also Vice President of the sixth or so largest bank in the world in the ’70s in America. I’m very strict with everything that I do and I brought that discipline into the things of God. Everything about this crusade is being monitored; financiers are monitored so critically. The work is being done.

Moreover, prayers are going on very aggressively; the devil is always against souls being won for the kingdom of God. We are talking souls being won in millions in Lagos and beyond. We know what we are faced with but our trust is in the name of our Lord God Jehovah.

Our country is beset with too many problems beyond understanding. Is it not a tall order to expect that this crusade will address all of these problems?

No. This crusade cannot address all the problems, only Jesus can address all the problems. But this crusade is brought about by God to impact the nation and continent of Africa. We believe with the presence of God in this crusade – since it’s the last crusade the man of God will hold and hundreds of thousands of people are coming from all over Africa and all over the world – there would be a healing in the land and that healing may be unseen physically.

But we believe from this crusade Nigeria would be permanently healed in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. The vices we complain about to God, it takes God no time to cleanse this nation and we believe He will.

The absence of unity has always dogged the ranks of churches. How united are churches for this crusade?

The good thing about Evangelist Reinhard Bonnke’s crusades is that from the time the Lord called him, his crusades have always been for the church in any nation. It’s not sectional and he has always insisted on the entire church coming together in any nation he goes.

The crusade is not for Pentecostals or for Catholics or for Methodists. It’s the church crusade. That’s his vision and he’s very strict about it. That’s why whenever he goes to any nation to talk about his crusade all the church groups, the denominations rally around. The Lord has used him to strengthen the unity of the church in Africa and in Nigeria.

In some crusades the motivating factor has always been money. How much do the organisers of this crusade intend to make?

Profit? There is none. Any nation (especially African nations) Evangelist Reinhard Bonnke hosts crusades, offerings are raised but he leaves the offering in that nation.

In 1985, the offerings raised were used to start the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) as far back as then. From Lagos to Calabar, to Port Harcourt, everywhere he goes, Reinhard Bonnke doesn’t touch the money raised in offerings. He leaves it for the church in that state.

For this crusade however, we have decided not to raise offerings. You will see that not one penny would be raised from anybody, so that it wouldn’t become a problem.

Wherever Bonnke goes for his crusades, he brings the resources. He has sponsors supporting him and they are all coming. They are billionaires and multibillionaires. They’re coming because it’s the last crusade in his life.

A lot of money goes into publicity, security and other details. Several millions have been paid for the land being acquired for the crusade opposite OPEC near Spark Light Estate.

Like previous crusades, the land will be sand filled to make it good for the crusade and after the crusade it will be handed back to the owners. So, a lot of investment goes into the crusade.

What measures have been put in place to address security, transportation and welfare?

Of course, we have very strong committees saddled with different responsibilities. There is a committee handling transportation, welfare has its own committee. We are expecting hundreds of thousands of visitors in this country and there are committees working to take care of every detail.

We just believe God that all will be well. Security is so crucial because of the situation in our nation and around us in Africa. We believe God is the security Himself and we believe that He is taking charge but all the security agencies have been brought in and every possible human effort for security is in place. Above all, Jesus is the ultimate security.

Are there any benefits for participating churches giving their time, human and material resources?

Yes there are. And what they stand to gain is souls. This country, as you know in recent years has been bedeviled by many vices; even the church itself is under serious attack. Because of the way we are running the churches, so many people are leaving the church and going back to their traditional religion.

Even many people inside the church still visit herbalists’ shrines. So, that’s one of the great things about the crusade to bring back the heart of men to God and all the participating churches will be involved in the evangelical effort because the crusade is for evangelism.

The unbelievers around are going to be invited and every church will end up having souls in their areas as people who give their lives to Christ during the crusade will be added to the church. This is the main gain.

Share with us your knowledge, thoughts and convictions about Reinhard Bonnke and what you expect God to do through him during the crusade and fire conference.

Incidentally, I was back to the country in 1979 so from the first crusade in 1985 I have been following the things God has been using him to do in this nation. Though I was just a regular Baptist church goer when he started his crusades in Nigeria, you couldn’t but see it on the television.

Many are in the faith today through Bonnke’s crusades. Someone like Pastor Sam Adeyemi gave his life to Christ in Ilorin at a crusade of Reinhard Bonnke. God has used him to multiply the church.

So, personally I believe in his vision that God called him to be a great evangelist for the world. His ministry has been followed with signs and wonders, millions of souls come into the kingdom, people are healed of all manners of diseases.

I believe in my heart that God is going to do great things in this nation through him. Whether you’re at the crusade venue or watching us from home, I believe that if you have faith you will receive your miracles. People will be healed in their homes; lives will be touched in homes.

  • ‘Bonnke to apply divine approach to resolve Nigeria’s challenges at crusade’

•Organisers: German cleric ‘ll address cultism, Badoo, other attacks

GERMAN Pentecostal evangelist Reihnard Bonnke is confident that God is capable of resolving Nigeria’s challenges and the social malaise across the country.

Chairman, Central Working Committee (CWC) of Bonnke’s Farewell Crusade and Passing the Burning Torch Conference in Africa Apostle Alexander Bamgbola said this yesterday.

He said the global cleric is being led by God to apply the divine approach in bringing solutions and healings to Nigeria.

The cleric, however, said on Wednesday, November 8, 2017,  Bonnke will arrive in Lagos for a five-day farewell crusade that will unleash the power of God on Nigeria and liberate it from negative forces.

Bamgbola, who spoke at news conference in Ikeja, said the crusade is scheduled to end on Sunday, November 12 in Lagos.

The chairman of the committee, who is also chairman,  Lagos State Christian Associaton of Nigeria (CAN), noted that the challenges confronting the country appear to have defied mere human and logical solutions.

“Nigeria is plagued by socio-economic corruption and spiritual pollution like the menace of the Badoo Boys of Ikorodu, the ritual killings and armed robbery in some parts of the country; the ethnic disturbances and secessionist tendencies.

“Jesus feels the pain Nigerians feel, and so does Bonnke. And this is why God specifically told him to go back to Nigeria this one more time,” said Bamgbola.

The crusade, which is scheduled to hold beside the Sparklight Estate, opposite OPIC Events Centre, Isheri, after the Berger Bus Stop Lagos, is expected to attract no fewer than 30 million Nigerians, with at least 10 million people attending it every day.

Participants from the neighbouring countries of Ghana, Cameroun, Togo, Benin, Mali, among others are expected.

Bamgbola added that the crusade will be complemented by a sideline event called: “Passing the Burning Torch” Conference, “where willing ministers of God in Africa are expected to catch the Reinhard Bonnke Fire for greater exploits”.

“He (Bonnke) had said many times that this country has great potentials but being held down by forces militating against it. The result is what we see as social vices that have held down economic growth. Inflation has remained high at double digit just as unemployment rate ensures more than 29 million employable youths remain out of jobs.

“We hear of a number of kidnap cases in Nigeria; rising incidents of armed robbery as well as rape and sexual harassments against minors becoming daily occurrences. Youth restiveness across the country seems to have created pockets of violence in some regions, forcing the Army to take certain measures to police the country. While these persist, we see government struggle with lean resources and rising corruption in private and public sectors,” the cleric said.

He lamented that the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) introduced by the United Nations (UN) did not achieve much for Africa.

By the time it was rested in 2015, the level of success of its eight goals in Africa was dismal, Bamgbola added.

The cleric noted that 65 per cent of Nigerians still remained in poverty and only six of every 10 Nigerian children are in school.

Bamgbola lamented over cases of HIV/AIDS infection, malaria and other dieses, mortality of mothers and children under five years.

He said those who are conversant with the Holy Bible know that Prophet Elisha did greater exploits for God after he got a double portion of Prophet Elijah’s anointing by prayerfully taking the Burning Torch from Elijah.

  • Bonnke picks Nigeria for ‘farewell’ crusade

Bonnke picks Nigeria for ‘farewell’ crusade

SEVENTY-SEVEN-year-old German evangelist, Reinhard Bonnke, is returning to Lagos for a “farewell message” eight years after his last visit.

The crusade is expected to be the last international evangelical trip for the renowned preacher who has witnessed 75,913,155 decisions for Christ in over 200 countries.

The farewell crusade holds on November 8 on an open field around  Sparklight Estate, diagonally opposite OPIC Plaza, Isheri Osun, Lagos/Ibadan expressway.

An advance team is already in the country to prepare for the crusade that will also witness a three-day ministers’ conference where he is expected to pass on the torch.

Over 10 million people from  Ghana, Cameroun, Togo, Benin and Mali are expected to be part of the historic crusade.

Bonke said he was led by God to return to Nigeria which he visited eight years ago for his “farewell message.”

His choice of Nigeria (and Lagos for that matter) for what would be his “final fire” in Africa, according to the Christ for All Nations (CFaN) which runs his crusades, was by a spiritual leading to bring down God’s power on the nation’s economic hub.

His managers say he is ready to pass the “gospel torch” to God’s ministers in Africa with Nigeria as focal point.

The renowned evangelist is handing over to a younger generation of evangelists led by Daniel Kolenda.

According to Bonnke: “The Lord spoke to me that I should go back for one more crusade in Africa.

“I want not only to see a gigantic harvest of souls but to pass my burning torch to this generation.

“Recently, I travelled to Lagos, Nigeria, to meet with the spiritual leadership there and they gave their unanimous support.

“I believe God is going to do something I have never seen before.”

CFaN officials led by its African Director, John Darku, say although the Lagos outing will be the last of Bonnke’s international crusade, CFaN will continue to carry on with its global evangelism project.

Darku says the CfaN anticipates conversion of many souls to Christ as Bonnke delivers his farewell message to a crowd of worshippers in Nigeria.

“One of the highlights of the crusade will be a Passing the Burning Torch Conference for leaders and church workers.

“Bonnke believes God for many thousands of pastors and evangelists from around the globe to be inspired to evangelism,” Darku explained.

Darku told newsmen the crusade promises to be the best of its kind just as he hinted of plans to recruit more than 500,000 counsellors, 200,000 intercessors, choir of over 23,000 and a security force of over 10,000.

“There is great excitement from all the churches in the country, and we are expecting a spectacular harvest of people coming to Christ,” he said.

Lead evangelist of CfaN and successor to Bonnke, Kolenda, expressed optimism that the landmark crusade would transform the church in Nigeria and Africa.

”I’m thrilled to join with Reinhard in this vision and know that the results of this crusade will be farther reaching and of even greater consequence than we can even imagine.”

Kolenda expressed the optimism that the Lagos crusade would be an explosion in line with God’s commission to Bonnke.

“Ever since God gave Evangelist Bonnke a vision for a blood-washed Africa – a continent washed in the blood of Jesus Christ -over 40 years ago, he has been filled with a burning commitment to win the continent for Jesus,” he said.

Apostle Alexander Bamgbola, who chairs the Central Working Committee of the Crusade, said all Christian groups will effectively participate and pray for the nation’s socio-political leadership and revival.

CFaN describes Bonnke’s return to Nigeria for his final international crusade as divine because the global preacher has  specific revelation and call to help the country fix its social fabrics and economy.

According to Darku’s remarks, Bonnke strongly believes that the evangelism conference will “plunder hell and populate heaven.”

An excited Bonnke, who sent out an invitation on his facebook wall, said: “Hello Friends, I have a special announcement for you today! I am returning to Lagos, Nigeria for my ‘Farewell Crusade’ in November of this year!

“This will be a truly momentous event, where we believe millions will not only hear the Gospel, but will also be saved, healed and delivered! As much as I am concerned, I am inviting the whole world.”

  • Shell launches health crusade

The Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo) has launched its first medical outreach at Gidan Mangoro community of Karu in Abuja.

Over 4,000 people got medical supplies in five primary schools. This is the latest phase of Shell’s Health-in-Motion programme which was rolled out in the Niger Delta in 2005.

At the opening  of the two-day event in Abuja, SNEPCo Managing Director Bayo Ojulari said the programme aimed at taking free promotive, preventive and curative health services to the hard-to-reach communities.

He said: “we hope to be able to support the efforts of government at all levels in providing accessible healthcare to the people.”

Ojulari, represented by Shell’s Regional Community Health Manager, Dr. Akinwumi Fajola, advised against ignoring early signs of health challenge, which could make it difficult for prompt and effective management by medical officers.

The Minister of Health, represented by Dr.  Adebimpe Adebiyi, praised the initiative, adding that the Federal Government was willing to collaborate with SNEPCo to take the programme to other communities.

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Iyke Judith, a widow, said: “My heart is full of joy to know that all the services – eyes screening and glasses; drugs; laboratory tests; everything is free.  I am so happy; may God Almighty bless the company. I believe it is because of me that the company came here because I have been sick for some time now especially after my spinal surgery and had no money to visit the hospital.  This programme has just solved my health issues.”

About 4,224 persons from the community benefited from various health services including include eye, dental, mass deworming, cardiovascular screenings, HIV & malaria testing and breast and cervical cancer screenings services. Three women were treated with cryotherapy.

On the spot for early stages of cancer of the cervix while 17 women with breast lumps had free mammograms done. 600 people with impaired vision received reading glasses while those requiring further management were referred to the General Hospital Karu.

The medical outreach was held in collaboration with the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) and had in attendance representative of the FCT Minister, Dr. Mathew Ashikeni; the traditional ruler of Karu, His Royal Highness, Emmanuel Kyauta Yewp; and Chairman of AMAC, Mr. Abdullahi Adamu Candido.
