  • Crystal Palace stun Chelsea at Stamford Bridge

Reigning English champions Chelsea suffered a shock 1-2 defeat to Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Bakary Sako put Palace in front in the 61st minute, finishing off Yannick Bolasie low cross after initial block by Cesar Azpilicueta, Goal reports.

Chelsea looked to have snatched a point when second half substitute Falcao headed in a Pedro delivery in the 79th minute.

But Palace went ahead two minutes later when Joel Ward finished off a beautiful link up play between Bolasie and Sako.

Chelsea has a paltry four points from same number of matches, eight points behind Manchester City who defeated Watford 2-0 at Etihad Stadium earlier on Saturday.

  • Aluko in Palace radar

    Aluko in Palace radar

Hull City attacker, Sone Aluko, may join English Premier League struggler Crystal Palace during the winter transfer window, MTNFootball.com reports.

MTNFootball.com says Hull City wants to cash in on him rather than let him go for free in the summer.

The injured Nigeria star turned down the Hull City contract extension offer recently and the Achilles injury he sustained during an EPL match has halted further talks and that may be counterproductive for City.

Palace is relegation-threatened and need goal getters like Aluko to strengthen its attack force, the report says.

Aluko has scored one goal in eight appearances for Hull City this season in the EPL before he got injured.

    West Ham joins Odemwingie’s chase

West Ham United is looking to capitalise on the failure of Crystal Palace and Fulham to secure the service of Osaze Odemwingie.

The out of favour West Brom striker was rumoured to be on the verge of moves to Ian Holloway’s side and Martin Jol’s side, but both fell through, MTNFootball.com reports.

That has left the door open for Sam Allardyce to add some panache alongside Andy Carroll, according to The Times.

West Ham officials have turned their attentions to the Nigerian, having failed to agree terms with the former Chelsea striker Kalou – who reportedly wanted assurances of a starting role within the Hammers attack for next season.

Al Nasr of Dubai is also considering increasing the initial offer for the former Lokomotiv Moscow striker.

Al Nasr owners had asked WBA to inform them what they considered to be an acceptable fee by Tuesday, after their initial bid of £850,000 was rejected.

But that deadline has now passed without further communication from ‘The Hawthorns,’ leaving ‘The Blue Wave’ to look elsewhere for summer recruits.

  • WBA wants £2m for Odemwingie

    WBA wants £2m for Odemwingie

English Premier League club, West Browmwich Albion, has slapped a £2 million (about N493 million) transfer tag on Nigerian striker, Peter Odemwingie.

The forward has endured a difficult last seven months since unsuccessfully trying to force a transfer to Queens Park Rangers in January, supersport.com reports.

He had been fined, made to use a different dressing room from the rest of the squad, left out from the club’s pre-season tour and compelled to train with the club’s youth team.

Another Premier League club, Crystal Palace, has shown strong interest in Odemwingie but the latest bid for the 32-year-old’s services came from Dubai-based club, Al Nasr.

Al Nasr tabled an £850,000 (about N210 million) bid for the attacker but West Brom is holding out for £2 million.

With the forward spending more time away from football at the highest level, he took to Twitter to reveal his new passion – Golf.

“I think I need some antiGolf tablets cos the desire to play is getting too much hahaha greetings to everyone ! Brum still hot like in Hawaii,” he tweeted via @OdemwingieP.

Odemwingie joined the Baggies in 2010 but it seems he has finally reached the end of the road at the Hawthorns.

    N125m delays Odemwingie’s Palace move

A fee of about N125 million has continued to hold back Peter Odemwingie’s move from West Bromwich Albion to Crystal Palace, futaa.com reports.

The Nigerian striker runs out of the Baggies contract in the next 12 months, but Palace has expressed the desire to buy the player, who has since fancied a move away from the Hawthorns.

Palace is unwilling to offer more than N500 million (£2million), while Albion hold out for closer to N625 million (£2.5million), hence the deal to Palace is still some way from being completed as both clubs haggle over the fee.

The 31-year-old Nigerian international would jump at the chance of a move to Selhurst Park but he would have to wait while the two clubs try and reach a compromise.

  • Osaze, Crystal Palace begin talks

    Osaze, Crystal Palace begin talks

West Bromwich Albion striker Peter Odemwingie was in talks with Crystal Palace Tuesday.

The Daily Mail says Odemwingie, who gained notoriety when he drove to Loftus Road on transfer deadline day in January to try to force a move to QPR, has been told he can leave the Hawthorns.

Odemwingie, 31, will have to take a wage cut to join the Eagles, but they are desperate to sign him.

Eagles chief Ian Holloway failed in a previous attempt to land him on loan in January when the club wanted a lift in the promotion run in.
