C&S Church marks 100 years as Iya Aladura Yomi-Sholoye leads colourful parade

Iya Aladura General, Dr. Oluwaseye Yomi-Sholoye, JP, Founder of The New Seraph Evangelical Ministries, mounted the podium at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, on Tuesday, September 9, to take the first Bible reading at the centenary celebration of the Cherubim and Seraphim (C\&S) Church Worldwide.

Reading from Isaiah 61:1–11, her voice carried both history and faith as thousands of Seraphs from across the globe gathered to mark the church’s 100th anniversary.

Dr. Yomi-Sholoye, who recently received the Centenary Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Church’s Development, also led her congregation in a thanksgiving parade that turned the atmosphere into a festival of colours.

Horses in ceremonial regalia, the Army of Salvation in uniform, and a lively brass band drew cheers from the crowd, leaving worshippers dancing in gratitude to God and honour of the founder, Saint Moses Orimolade Tunolase.

A born Seraph with deep family roots in the church, Dr. Yomi-Sholoye is the daughter of the late Baba Aladura Sunday Peter Akinjogunla, founder of New Mission C&S (now Faith Mission Church), and Prophetess Dr. Marian Adeleye Akinjogunla, JP, President of Faith Mission C&S Worldwide.

Praised for her role in uniting and inspiring a new generation of Seraphs, as well as her philanthropic efforts beyond the pulpit, the New Seraph leader was widely celebrated during the event.

The grand centenary drew church leaders, government officials, dignitaries, and royal fathers, including H.M.E Baba Aladura Bob-Manuel (Prelate of ESOCS), the CAN President, representatives of the Pope, the Owa Ale of Ikare Akoko, Oba Adeleke Adefemi Adegbite II, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, and music legend Sir Shina Peters.

For the Cherubim and Seraphim Church, founded in Lagos by Saint Moses Orimolade on September 9, 1925, the centenary was not just a celebration but, in the words of many leaders, a testimony to “God’s enduring grace, mercy, and faithfulness” upon the church and its people for the past century.

The Cherubim and Seraphim (C&S) Unification Church of Nigeria, widely regarded as the first Pentecostal movement in Africa, has flagged off activities to commemorate its centenary anniversary, with plans for a new university, expanded community outreaches, and a renewed push for national unity.

The event, themed “Centenary Without Boundaries,” was formally announced during a briefing at the Church’s international Headquarters in Ogun by the Supreme Head of the C&S Unification Church of Nigeria, Prophet Solomon Alao.

He said the church is in the process of securing final approvals for its university project, describing it as one of the major legacies of the centenary season.

“We are currently developing the infrastructures, and very soon we will get the approval by the grace of the Lord. As soon as that is done, the university will begin admitting students,” he said.

The church leader who was represented by the Secretary General of the Church, Snr. Apostle Tayo Ajose noted that the university is part of the church’s wider contributions to national development, which include social welfare, spiritual guidance, and moral reawakening. “We cannot underestimate the contributions of C&S Church to the growth of our country,” Ajose said.

Founded in 1925 under the spiritual leadership of Saint Moses Orimolade Tunolase and co-led by Captain (Dr.) Christiana Abiodun Emanuel, the C&S Church has grown from a humble prayer fellowship into a worldwide movement. It now boasts branches across Nigeria, West Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

He recounted the church’s historical journey, noting that while internal divisions plagued the early years, culminating in multiple factions, efforts to foster unity yielded results in 1986 with the formation of the C&S Unification Church. Since then, the church has operated under a rotational leadership model and maintained a standardised worship system.

As part of the year-long celebrations leading up to the grand finale on September 9, 2025, a series of spiritual and social programmes have been lined up. These include joint revival services, seminars, centenary rallies, novelty football matches, historical exhibitions, and courtesy visits to national leaders.

On the humanitarian front, the church leader said the church would be launching several Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects. “We shall be providing access to medical equipment and conducting free medical outreach across communities, including this one here and others scattered around the country. We have medical experts within the church contributing in their areas of expertise,” he said.

One of the symbolic highlights of the centenary, he added, is a spiritual walk from Ikare to Ago-Ishofin in Lagos — a re-enactment of the path walked by the church’s founder. “That walk is significant because it retraces the route our spiritual father took when he brought the gospel to Lagos. As we walk, we will be evangelising, praying, and reaching out to people just as he did — restoring hope, homes, and health,” he said.

He added that activities have already begun with joint services held in Lagos last week, with more dates and events to be announced in due course.

On the planned visits to the Presidency and state governors, Ajose said preparations were in motion. “Meeting with the President and governors requires protocol. Once we are set, we’ll inform the press. Our fathers and mothers will not only pray with them but also speak truth to power, admonishing them to change their strategies for the good of the nation,” he stated.

He described the current leadership of the church as courageous and unafraid of authority. “Our Supreme Leader is a man of wisdom who is not scripted by opposition. He stands on truth, and when we visit those in authority, we do so with a prophetic voice and spiritual mandate.”

Ajose called on the media for robust coverage of all activities. “This is a once-in-a-lifetime moment not just for us as Seraphs, but for the spiritual heritage of Nigeria. We look forward to your partnership in amplifying the message of hope, unity, and God’s faithfulness,” he said.
