  • CSKA continues to negotiate Aaron Samuel transfer fee

News24.com understands that CSKA Moscow and Guangzhou R&F continue to haggle over a transfer fee for Nigeria international Aaron Samuel.

The Russian Premier League side have failed to meet the attacker’s five million euros buy-out clause after several months of negotiations but they have agreed to insert a 10 per cent sell – on fee on top of the 3.5 million euros that has been offered.

Unlike some European teams, Guangzhou R&F are backed by real estate developers and don’t have cash flow problems, and are reluctant to do business with the Muscovites except they cough up 5 million euros.

But CSKA Moscow power brokers are confident a deal is imminent, with the club instructing Aaron Samuel to start processing his visa to Russia.

A five – year contract has been offered to the Guangzhou R&F frontman but the player and his intermediary have insisted that the duration of the agreement should be four seasons.

The 21 year old has maintained his professionalism while talks are ongoing, and netted a brace in Guangzhou R&F’s 2 – 2 draw with Guizhou Renhe in the Super League on Thursday.

Aaron Samuel was hotly linked with a move to Monaco in the winter of 2014 but the transfer failed to materialize.

    …CSKA run excites Amokachi, Eagles

Ahmed Musa’s exciting displays in the colours of Russian side, CSKA Moscow, have been a source of inspiration to the Super Eagles and their coaching crew ahead of the two important Nations Cup qualifiers against Congo Brazzaville and Bafana Bafana of South Africa.

Assistant Coach Dan ‘the Bull’ Amokachi, declared after lunch on Thursday, that watching Musa show class in the Champions League encounter against English side Manchester City on Wednesday night, whom they defeated 1-2 away from home, gives him confidence that the Super Eagles will scale the hurdle for Morocco 2015.

“We are lucky that most of players who are not injured at the moment are on form and that should give us an edge over our opponents in our remaining games,” he declared.

Team Administrator, Dayo Enebi Achor, who spoke on behalf of other officials and the players said most of the players who spoke to him after watching the game, said they see Musa and his other team mates like Ikechukwu Uche and Emmanuel Emenike, helping Nigeria qualify for the AFCON next year.

“Musa has been an epitome of a true professional footballer and the way and manner he has been conducting himself on and off the pitch should give us reason to be confident that we will give a good account of ourselves in our remaining games for Morocco 2015,” he declared.

    •Coach demands 100% imput

Super Eagles forward Ahmed Musa will have more than enough to do as  CSKA Moscow host Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions league  at the Arena Khimki today. Unfortunately, Musa who has been listed in Stephen Keshi’s 23- man Super Eagles squad to face  Falcons of Sudan October 10, will be tackling a rampaging Bayern with his teammates behind closed doors.  This follows UEFA’s hammer on the Russian side after it was found guilty of “a range of racist and far-right symbols” in a Champions League match against Viktoria Plzen last December.

CSKA can best be said to be scared of the encounter, especially after flagging off the 2014-15 campaign on a miserable note with 5-1 loss to Roma in the Italian capital.

Coach Slutsky did not mince words in admitting that today’s encounter will be tough for his boys. Last season Bayern defeated CSKA home and away in the group stage a record which appears to be giving the club and their fans goose pimples. Despite the obvious odd that seems to weigh against the Russian side coach Slutsky remains optimistic that the side can survive even as he challenged Musa and his teammates to put in nothing less than 100% in the  battle.

“Of course our opponents are supremely talented and it is a difficult situation for us,” he said.

“Last year we lost a few games against Bayern and [Manchester] City, which hit us hard and unfortunately we have continued our poor run of form away from home.

“It’s not nice to recognise that there are teams who are just far more talented and are at a different level. Our task is that the team plays to its absolute maximum capacity – will this be enough? We will only know when the game gets underway.”

Georgi Schennikov, who has recently recovered from injury, implored his team-mates to put that heavy defeat behind them.

“We need to forget about the game with Roma and get ready for the encounter with Bayern Munich,” he said. “Of course this is a special game.

“To play against such opponents is always interesting. They are a very strong side. Who in particular? Well I just think everything is so good.

“Physically, I am feeling good and my leg has not been causing me any problems over the last few games.”

Nigeria international Ahmed Musa scored one of the goals for CSKA Moscow in a 2-0 win over Sokol Saratov to progress to the last eight of the Russian Cup.

The former VVV Venlo player scored in the 59th minute to double the Army team’s lead.

Musa told MTNFootball.com he is happy with the victory and goal.

“It is a very good game for us, we knew we just had to win, we were determined and we got victory,” Musa said.

  • Uzoenyi better than Ahmed Musa – Akpoborie

Uzoenyi better than Ahmed Musa – Akpoborie

Former Nigeria striker Jonathan Akpoborie has advised coach Stephen Keshi to consider Ejike Uzoenyi ahead of CSKA Moscow forward, Ahmed Musa in his squad to the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Uzoenyi has been the arrowhead of the Super Eagles attack at the ongoing African Nations Championship scoring three goals in four matches and winning the Man of the Match award thrice.

In a chat with Goal, Akpoborie made a case for the Enugu Rangers player to spearhead the Super Eagles attack ahead of the Russia-based forward.

“Ejike Uzoenyi has played well so far in the ongoing Africa Nations Championship and most especially in the quarter-final battle against Morocco which Nigeria won. This definitely throws a lot of question as regards why Ahmed Musa has been playing ahead of him in the Super Eagles,” Akpoborie told Goal in Abuja.

“Uzoenyi is a more creative player and a more sensible player. Musa is faster but Keshi has a lot of job on his hands to decide who makes the plane to Brazil.

“Musa creates goals but his finishing has been poor. Before the last Africa Cup of Nations and even the 2014 World Cup qualifiers, Musa had many chances but rarely buried them as expected of a player like him,” he said.

On why he thinks Uzoenyi is ahead of Musa, Akpoborie said the latter is guilty of losing possession.

“Musa concedes the ball to the opponent and in modern football you need somebody who is economical with the ball and makes his passes to his teammates most of the time, not every time,” he concluded.

    • Super Eagles star plays for 79 mins

Nigeria’s Ahmed Musa was in action for CSKA Moscow in Wednesday’s 3-1 home defeat by Bayern Munich as the Germans became the first side to win 10 consecutive Champions League matches.

The holders secured victory with goals from Arjen Robben, Mario Gotze and Thomas Muller.

CSKA had the first chance of the game after five minutes when Zoran Tosic’s strike was deflected wide following a Keisuke Honda corner.

Bayern opened the scoring 11 minutes later when Robben struck a powerful finish beyond goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev after being picked out by Muller. Robben nearly made it two shortly after but the Dutch winger was flagged offside when he connected with a Toni Kroos cross.

The hosts improved after the break and almost levelled matters within two minutes of the restart when Honda was played through on goal, but Manuel Neuer came out to collect the ball from his feet.

Bayern doubled their lead ten minutes into the second half when Gotze jinked his way past several CSKA players and fired a composed finish beyond Akinfeev.

CSKA were awarded a penalty on 61 minutes when Dante was penalised for handball, and Honda sent Neuer the wrong way to reduce the arrears.

Four minutes later Bayern won a penalty of their own after Robben was tripped in the area, with Muller stepping up to restore the Bundesliga side’s two-goal advantage.

The hosts came close to pulling a goal back with ten minutes remaining when Tosic’s effort from the edge of the box came back out of the crossbar.

Robben almost added another goal for Bayern on 87 minutes, but his effort was palmed away by Akinfeev.

•Hails Eagles’ match up with Ethiopia

CSKA Moscow striker, Ahmed Musa has told SportingLife that the Russian side has taken the defeat against the reigning UEFA Champions League winners, Bayern Munich in good fate and will concentrate on the next tie against Viktoria Plzen at home.

Musa said there was nothing wrong with his club’s approach to the game admitting that they lost to a better side but they would pick up their pieces when the Czech Republic champions visit Moscow.

“It was a game of football and the better side won. I don’t have much to say on that. We must forget about this loss and concentrate on the league tie we have on Sunday and the next round of the Champions League against Viktoria Plzen.

“We still have everything going well for us and we shouldn’t because of a loss throw away all that we have achieved together,” Musa told SportingLife.

The Super Eagles forward also stated that it would be awesome if he is picked to face the Walyas Antelopes of Ethiopia for the final round of the World Cup qualifiers having played against them at the AFCON early this year which Nigeria won 2-0. He also confirmed he featured for the Eagles against the same Eastern African country during the qualifier for AFCON 2012 in Addis Ababa which the Eagles got a 2-2 draw. Captain Joseph Yobo’s late minute goal forced a draw under then Eagles’ boss Samson Siasia.

He warned against complacency. He said though CAF has given the country a favourable draw but that the country’s football administrators, players and coaches all have their role to play to ensure that the nation’s flag is hoisted in Brazil next year.
