Human trafficking: Oba of Benin forces native doctors to revoke curses placed on victims

Edo State victims of human trafficking can now call the bluff of agents who threaten them with dire consequences of oaths sworn to in the process of taking them abroad.

The oaths which are often administered by native doctors engaged by the agents were reversed yesterday by the same native doctors.

The oath reversal was at the instance of the Benin monarch, Oba Ewuare II, at a special meeting in his palace to stop human trafficking in the state which comes tops in the illegal act in Nigeria.

An oath taking process ,according to victims, involve the invocation of parts of their bodies as collateral to force them pay back the money spent by the agents to take them  mainly to Europe where they end up as prostitutes.

Hundreds of native doctors converged on the Oba of Benin palace yesterday to heed the monarch’s call.

Oba Ewuare 11 said Governor Godwin Obaseki had pleaded with him to help reduce the spate of human trafficking in the state.

The state, he pointed out, has had enough of the embarrassment that comes with human trafficking and it is time to put an immediate end to it.

He said while the palace has nothing against the practice of native medicine, it will not condone a situation where it is used to “perpetrate evil in the land through aiding and abetting human trafficking.”

He said: “You native doctors whose business is to subject people to oath of secrecy and encouraging evil act in the land, you have to repent, stop doing it.

“This is not a joking matter and if you do not repent, you’ll see the repercussions.”

He cursed human traffickers and native doctors who subject Benin sons and daughters to oaths of secrecy, initiate them into cults or encourage violation of the order banning Community Development Associations.

He warned that anyone persisting should be ready to face the wrath of the gods.

He then directed the native doctors present to revoke the curses and oaths already placed on trafficked victims.

The Benin Monarch declared: “We want to use this medium to tell those who are under any oath of secrecy that they are now free. We revoke the oath today.

“What the palace stands for is peace and the development of the state. I want to use this medium to tell you that the act of using charms to aid trafficking, the palace seriously frowns at it.

“We want us to join hands together to fight against human trafficking in the land.”

Those who took part in the swearing exercise were priests from various shrines in the state such as the Ohen Okhuae, Ohen Ovia, Ohen noriyekeogba, Ohen Ake, Ohen Niwuo, native doctors, Ohen Sango,  Odionwere, Iwueki and the  Enigies.

  • Frustrated MMM participants resort to curses, threats

Frustrated MMM participants resort to curses, threats

Nigerian participants in the ponzi scheme, MMM, are losing patience with it, a week after resumption of service and promise to begin payment.

Although there was evidence yesterday that some participants had been paid ,thousands of others whose applications were yet to be attended have been  venting their anger on the brains behind the scheme for the frustration in accessing their funds.

They rage, curse and threaten unrestrained  on the MMM Help platform after unsuccessful attempts to get response to their many inquiries on the status of their investment.

Typical of the threat message is this seen yesterday on the MMM website: “Hello Mavrodi. You can’t eat my money and go like that.See, let me tell you Mavrodi:my father is a native doctor.I give you two weeks to pay my money or my father will kill you in that Russia.I’m ready to kill anybody including my guider and referral.Make una  no play with me ooo…If you like joke with me.”

One Hayat Mohammed  said: “I really need help. I provided help of 50,000, now I made a request to get help. The request was processed, but I’ve not being matched with another participant who will pay me. They won’t even pick my calls. So my money is lost, isn’t it? Last time I checked, this was supposed to be a platform where we would be able to tender our problems for solutions. I guess they don’t care anymore since participants have grown in population.”

Harrison Ita Etim posted: “I am still in the same shit too till today!”

Owhotemu Maryjane said: “What is really going on with MMM? If it’s gone you should let us the participants know. And why is that when someone wants to GH it will show or create error? You guys had a month to sort this out during the so-called break! So what then is this so called withdrawal limit that you are now talking about?”

From Santos Maemi came this: “To all Nigerians, please wake up. This is totally a scam. Don’t be blind!!!” while Christopher Chinedu said: “If I knew that this would  happen, I shouldn’t have become a participant. Let’s admit we have lost our money. That is business I guess, lose or gain. Somebody has been matched with different people, four, to be precise and they have not paid him now, many days and months after. Hmmm so who is going to pay who? I think I have cried enough, it’s time for me to clean my eyes now and forget my N700,000. This is not my end.”

A cross section of participants interviewed in Ado Ekiti fear that their money is gone.

Tope Aladeniyi, who said he was to be paid a day before the scheme was shut down in December, said  he learnt some people received little payments, but he was yet to be matched for payment.

“At the moment, I have not been matched, and last year we were told that once  the scheme resumed on January 14, they would  be the ones to release those who were ready to be matched, even if you were due for payment,” Aladeniyi said.

Another participant, Sola Abidakun, who provided help in November and asked for help on January 13, said he was matched with four persons but only two paid.

“I was only paid N4000 and N10,000, leaving two failed transactions waiting to be rematched,” he said.

A top guider of the scheme, Bode Wilson, while explaining the reason for delayed payment, said that the number of people requesting for payment was higher than the number providing help.

“They have started matching people, but there will be delay in payment, especially for those that pledged huge amount of money. There should be enough money in the system before everybody can get paid. However, I’m sure we will all get paid”, Wilson said.

A lawyer, Femi Oyeniyi, warned that participants in the scheme may not be able to recover any money lost in the scheme because of the anonymity the business is shrouded with.

Oyeniyi said: “I doubt who do you sue, you don’t see the person you are doing business with, you can only sue the person you see and it is only the person you see physically that you can do business with.”

A broadcaster,Carol Oladeinde, said: “I have a relation who did the MMM thing and was benefitting from it before they went off. I do not think that we should condemn the financial scheme (MMM) because a lot of people have benefited from it. I am into another networking stuff. I am a member of another one and it is working.

“Yes, I will continue with mine because I know what I am benefiting from it. I can’t go anywhere to borrow money so if I am involved in a financial scheme where I see someone give me indirect loan and even increase my opportunity to get more, why won’t I continue?

Martins Okafor, a participant  investor in Awka still believes in the scheme.

He told The Nation that those who have not received any payment were those who have not been matched  for payments, especially those invested shortly before the break.

Another investor, Miss Blessing Nwankwo, was also optimistic that her investment would not be lost

She said she was willing to forfeit  N10,000 of  the N20,000 she invested, adding that she had no regrets whatsoever.

Mrs. Chiamaka Udu, a participant in Port Harcourt, said: “ We thank God that we are able to be alive to see today.

“The  last time when you came to my house to talk to me, I told you I was going to die, but I think there is hope. What is happening now is that those of us with big funds are not being paid now. They told us that we should wait; that after providing help for those with small amount they will consider us.”

Mr. Geoffrey Nnamdi said: “My brother, I ‘m yet to understand these people. Though they are paying some, when I clicked help they rejected my request, saying I should wait but I need this money.

Another customer, Mr. Davies Onyema reacted this way, “Please, I don’t want to say anything, I almost committed suicide last time. I was very happy when I heard the news of their coming back. I have entered forty days of praying and fasting over my condition with MMM. How can they return and tell me that they are not going to provide help to me, so when are they going to provide help?”

Tears, curses as slain Iyaloja of Ijebuland is interred

Tears flowed yesterday as hundreds of traders in Ijebuland gathered for the funeral of the slain Iyaloja of Ijebuland, Alhaja Sadia Elewuju,  in Ijebu -Ode, Ogun State.

Alhaja Elewuju, who was installed the Iyaloja by the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, in 2002, was buried at 4pm.

Mourners and sympathisers, who thronged her Itorin-Sabo home to receive her remains, cursed her killers.

Some threw themselves on the ground as the hearse, bearing her body drapped in white, pulled up at her home at noon.

Many bemoaned the killing of the 82-year-woman, who was described as bold, courageous and upright.

Security agents had a hectic time controlling sympathisers, who kept wailing and cursing the murderers.

It was gathered that Alhaja Elewuju was attacked at 4pm on Wednesday, when assailants invaded her home, shooting and also inflicting severe cuts on her before leaving the octogenarian in a pool of blood.

The assailants, sources said, struck when her male workers went to the market to buy food items for entertainment of guests.

A source said she was first taken to a nearby private hospital on the Ijebu – Ode – Ore Expressway, then the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOU), Sagamu and later to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, where she  died.

The Commissioner of Police, Abdulmajid Alli, who resumed yesterday afternoon, vowed to arrest the killers.

Police spokesman Olumuyiwa Adejobi told reporters that the police were on the killers’ trail, promising that the police would put measures in place to prevent a recurrence.

  • Schools shut as Jonathan curses killers of 22 pupils

Schools shut as Jonathan curses killers of 22 pupils

Special Forces in Yobe State have launched a manhunt for the alleged mastermind of the killing on Saturday of 22 Government Secondary School, Mamudo pupils.

The suspect, who is believed to be a Boko Haram leader, is said to have relocated to Potiskum from Borno State, following the retaking of northern Borno by troops.

Apparently to prevent another attack, Governor Ibrahim Gaidam has accepted security agencies’ advice to send schools on vacation. This is to give room for the overhauling of security arrangement in all schools, The Nation learnt.

President Goodluck Jonathan said the killers would go to hell.

Gaidam visited the school yesterday. Visibly distraught, he condemned the killing of the pupils and ordered the closure of all secondary schools from today.

According to the governor, the measure is to safeguard the lives of pupils and allow the government and the Joint Security Task Force and community leaders to come out with better strategies that will gaurantee the safety of students and teachers in the state.

Gaidam was also at the Potiskum General Hospital to see the injured pupils, who are to have free treatment.

The governor urged the Federal Government to restore GSM services to Yobe, Borno and Adamawa. He said lack of GSM services had always prevented good people from reporting suspicious elements in their neighbourhoods.

Gaidam praised the JTF’s efforts in tackling the Boko Haram insurgency. He urged them to comb Potiskum, Gaidam and Gujba which, according to him, are the notorious spots. He cited the military operations in Sambisa forest in Borno which, he noted, was a success.

The Commissioner for Lower Education, Mohammed Lamin, confirmed that 22 pupils were killed.

The commissioner, who conducted the governor round the school, said a teacher and one villager were killed, bringing the number of casualty to 24.

Our correspondent, who was at the Postikum General Hospital, saw four pupils on admission.

The Chief of Defence Staff, Admiral Ibrahim Ola Sa’ad, has directed troops to fish out the killers.

According to a source, troops are on the trail of a deadly Boko Haram leader, who is suspected to be the mastermind of the killings.

“Troops are already after the killers and we are hopeful that they will get them because some of those who perpetrated similar killings at the Government Secondary School, Damaturu about three weeks ago were apprehended,” a source said, adding:

“The dastardly killings pointed to reprisals from the aggrieved sect members who had been displaced from Northern Borno by troops.

“And you know, Potiskum axis has been a well-oiled base of the insurgents which the troops have been combing and screening.”

Asked if the troops have lost the battle to the sect, the source added: “Not at all but what has happened is that the insurgents have changed their methods. It means they can attack anywhere now.”

A Defence source said Admiral Sa’ad ordered a cordon-off of all villages in Potiskum.

“The search for the killers has started and the Special Force in Yobe is being reinforced especially at flashpoints,” the source said.

In security circles, the thinking is that the attacks on schools are meant to cause disaffection between the military/ security agencies and the civilian populace.

Having suffered two attacks in three weeks, the police and other agencies believe there is need to review security arrangement in all school.

“Their advice actually is in favour of a shut down of most schools to protect lives and property. It is left to Yobe State Government to take a final decision,” a source said.

  • Breaking your family free from curses (3)

We shall continue from where we stopped the last time on how to free your family from curses.

    1. To free your family from every curse, you must not do the work of the Lord deceitfully.

Look at what the word of God said in Jeremiah 48:10: “Cursed be he that doeth the work of the LORD deceitfully, and cursed be he that keepeth back his sword from blood.”

The Message Translation of the Bible puts it this way. It says; Sloppy work in GOD’s name is cursed, and cursed all halfhearted use of the sword.

That means when you are deceitfully serving God and pretending to serve God and yet not really involved. Or you are involved but not humble. Or you are pretending to be serious with God and yet not serious.

So when you refuse to use the word of God against sin, and bring sinners back to Jesus in repentance; you are in serious trouble and you come under a curse.

    2. To free your family from curses, you must know, live and allow the word to live through you as a testimony.

Jesus said in John 7:49 that; But this people who knoweth not the law are cursed.

So you must know the word if your family must not come under a curse. You must also understand that by covenant, you belong to Abrahamic genealogy. And that every curse is broken and destroyed when you apply the blood of Jesus.

Galatians 3:9 says; So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.

As a seed of Abraham by covenant, the blessing is already yours. And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

    3. To free your family from curses, you must deliberately refuse to partake in ungodly relationships.

The bible says in Psalm 1:1-3 that; Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

You will notice that the blessing will always cancel the curses. And when curses are cancelled, promotion and increase can now set into the life of a man.

David knew this very well and he said in Psalm 112:1-4 that; Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments. His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed. Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endureth for ever. Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.

Now you can curse and cancel every curse in your life and family in the name of Jesus with the following scriptures.

Nevertheless the LORD thy God would not hearken unto Balaam; but the LORD thy God turned the curse into a blessing unto thee, because the LORD thy God loved thee. Deuteronomy 23:5

Curse ye Meroz, said the angel of the LORD, curse ye bitterly the inhabitants thereof; because they came not to the help of the LORD, to the help of the LORD against the mighty. Judges 5:23

Because they met not the children of Israel with bread and with water, but hired Balaam against them, that he should curse them: howbeit our God turned the curse into a blessing. Nehemiah 13:2

I curse every curse in your life and generation in the name of Jesus.

You are free from the effect of every curse in the name of Jesus.

    You shall not die.

None of your family member shall die untimely in the name of Jesus.

    Be free from every curse!

  • Breaking your family free from curses (1)

By God’s design, the righteous and his seeds are blessed forever. The righteous and his children, even his children’s children are to show forth God’s goodness and blessings.

Hear this: “He blesseth them also, so that they are multiplied greatly; and suffereth not their cattle to decrease.” (Psalms 107:38).

God is not talking about the blessing you can work out. That is why it is supernatural.

This is the blessing that comes from the very heart of the Father. The same way God desires that fathers are to break their families free from every curse so that they can experience supernatural overflow.

    The patriarchal prayers

Children also need their parents’ patriarchal prayers and blessing. Consider these patriarchal prayers of David:

“Make our sons in their prime like sturdy oak trees, our daughters as shapely and bright as fields of wildflowers. Fill our barns with great harvest, fill our fields with huge flocks; Protect us from invasion and exile— eliminate the crime in our streets. How blessed the people who have all this! How blessed the people who have GOD for God!” Psalms 144:12-15 (Message)

There are five very important prayers that every father must continually pray over their children as seen in Psalm 144.

    The prayer of a father

    1. Posterity – that our seed may be mighty. No devil shall pluck your seed.

    2. Prosperity – fill our barns with great harvest – this is supernatural harvest.

    3. Supernatural multiplication – fill our fields with huge flock.

    4. Divine protection – protect us from invasion.

    5. Deliverance from crime

Fathers need to proclaim these prayers on their children daily because when they fail to do these, the devil will attack the family.

The reason why Satan is out to cut off fathers is because.

Fathers are shepherds over the family. So, when fathers don’t take their place spiritually, God raises a Deborah. She was the wife of Lapidoth, and that’s all we heard about the man Lapidoth.

You may be reading this article now and you are thinking I don’t have a father anymore to speak into my life. I take the place of a father to you today and I speak into your destiny as one of the next generation

§ You shall not be destroyed

§ Your destiny shall not be shattered in the mighty name of Jesus.

However, you need to clear every limitation to encounter this level of the supernatural and be free from every curse. Limitations and barriers must be taken away from before you. And God has taken as a responsibility to do this for you as He has promised in Isaiah 45:2-3; I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron: And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the LORD, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel.

The reason why fathers need to rise and proclaim blessing upon their children is because curses which represent invisible barrier, limitation, delay, hindrance, obstruction, frustration and stagnation are also pronounced by the words of mouth. But the power of the blessing of God as pronounced by fathers will open the door that is locked. That blessing of God will multiply your family and your heritage. God arise on your behalf and that of your family in Jesus’ mighty name. look at this in Revelation 3:8; I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.

Every door locked against you, your family and business is opened now in Jesus’ name. From today, no curse shall stop you or your family.

God’s extravagant blessings will follow you this year.

Every gate of brass is commanded to be opened in Jesus’ mighty name.

The doors of blessing and freedom from curses are opened to you in Jesus’ mighty name.
