    Nina Grant emerges Cussons Baby Moments 3 winner

    ..As brand unveiled new heart-shape logo

    Again, the Cussons Baby’s promotional flagship platform, Cussons Baby Moments lived up to expectations over the weekend as Oritsejolomisan Nina Grant defeated over 500 babies who entered for the season 3 of the competition to emerge winner.

    Nina Grant won the N1million educational grant grand prize, Cussons Baby products, a smart learning tablet, shopping voucher and Thermocool refrigerator.

    Baby Nina was closely followed by Similola Alexis Onabanjo and Obianamma Adele Anammah who emerged first and second runners up respectively. Baby Simisola won N500,000, Cussons Baby products, shopping voucher, a smart learning tablet, and a Thermocool generator while Anammah won N250, 000, Cussons Baby products, a smart learning tablet, shopping voucher, and a Thermocool microwave. Other 20 babies who made it to the semi-final stage were also rewarded with shopping vouchers and Cussons Baby products.

    Prizes were also presented to deserving babies in the special category segment. Obiajulu Obiabaka won the ‘Baby Ttrendy’ Award, Kanyitochukwu Uche-Anyanwu won the ‘Baby Gat Swag’ Award, Oritsejolomisan Nina Grant won the ‘Toothy Smile’ award, while Tioluwanimi Martins Adetunji won the ‘Best Costume’ award. All category winners went home with Cussons Baby Products, smart learning tablets and shopping vouchers.

    Elated, the winner’s mother; Mrs. Eraromena Grant, said though she entered the competition, the family was able to use all manner of communication to drive traffic to Nina Grant’s picture link on the Cussons Baby website hence her ability to qualify for the top 50.

    She explains: “I never thought she was going to win because I entered the competition late, I started canvassing for votes first week of January, so I started pushing my friends, family, colleagues and everyone I know. My sister in America printed fliers for her, so my baby went viral; she was everywhere, on the Instagram, twitter, Facebook and all over social media.”

    It was a double celebration for the brand as Cussons Baby used the platform to unveil its new logo.

    Speaking on the consistency of the initiative, the Managing Director Family Care PZ Cussons, Alex Goma said “I think we see the initiative grow. It offers parents the opportunity to share and celebrate their babies amazing moments. We believe that it is the right thing because babies are about love and heart.”

    On the new logo, Goma said “It’s all about the emotion; actually the insight for us is that everything the parent or the mother does comes out of love and that is what the heart is all about.”

    Cussons Baby Moments unveils Season 3 Jury

    Three  renowned professionals, ace movie actress and producer, Mercy Aigbe-Gentry, creative photographer, Yetunde Babaeko and a bespoke tailor and fashion designer,  Mai Atafo have been unveiled once again to continue as jury of the Cussons Baby Moments Season 3. The three celebrities have been the jurors of the events since Season 2 in 2014.

    The brand has taken yet another step towards rewarding babies and their parents, having previously rewarded Daniel Uwadia in 2014 and Morireoluwa Modesire Davids in 2015. It would be recalled that Cussons Baby recently hosted ‘Toddler Grow and Shine’ competition for toddlers to exhibit their talents.

    The inaugural Cussons Baby Toddler Grow and Shine produced Imisioluwa Oladapo as the grand prize winner, and she took home N1million education grant.

    While introducing the panel of judges to the media in Lagos to kick start the season 3 of the competition, the Group Brand Development and Activation Manager Faith Okoli, said that the Cussons Baby Moments initiative is a platform meant for parents to share the captivating and amazing moments of their babies in pictures and videos.

    Mrs. Okoli said “We are proud to have the season 3 of Cussons Baby Moments because this is yet another occasion to celebrate our bundles of joy”

    Speaking on the platform as a means of showcasing captivating and amazing baby moments, Mrs. Okoli said parents upload pictures of their babies on the Cussons Baby Facebook page and these uploads are voted for. Selections are based on the highest number of likes. The judges subsequently review the selected images based on some key parameters. Basically, the selection is 2-tier: Family and friends of the babies and the Cussons Baby judges’

    While explaining the rationale behind the choice of panelists, Mrs. Okoli said ‘’every baby is amazing and it is very difficult to select a winner among winners. Hence, our choice of  three professionals that are not only parents and well respected members of the society, but are also renowned in their chosen careers. Our judges have been with us from the inception of the Cussons Baby Moments in 2014. They can easily identify with those unique budding attributes and captivating moments we desire to celebrate in our babies’’

    Cussons ‘Grow & Shine’ contest produces N1m education grant winner

    A Four-year- old Imisi Subomi Smile Oladapo from Chrisland School, Victoria Garden City (VGC) has emerged the winner of the 2015 Cussons Baby toddler competition tagged “Grow and Shine’.The lucky girl  carted  away N1 million education grant grand prize and products from the Cussons Baby range of products.

    Smile, whose chorographic performance received standing ovation from judges, parents and other contestants, smiled home with the competition’s educational grant of N1million at the competition grand finale held at Planet One, Maryland, Lagos, last week.

    Meanwhile, Ehiarekhian Peter Hayble, four, a pianist and Amarachi Akujobi, five, a dancer came second and third respectively to win N250,000 and N150,000 education grant .  Other 17 kids  went home with product gift, N20, 000 and N10, 000 shopping voucher each.

    The elated winner’s mother, Mrs. Ireti Oladapo, writer/publicist, who expressed her fears after seeing some talented kids on display prior to her baby’s performance confessed that at some point her faith began to shake.

    “There were so many talented children at the competition and at a point, my faith began to shake but I told her that if she has to win she has to do better than others,” Mrs Oladapo disclosed.

    Addressing the transparency of the competition, PZ Cussons’ Regional Marketing Head of Africa,Charles Nnochiri, stated that the judges were objective in their assessment and the event turned out the way’’ we expected it to be’’.

    “What this tells me is that the event was as transparent as we expected it to be. The judges were objective as they could have been because the winner is someone who sang a lot of songs that edified our country Nigeria through choreography which is a lot talent from a four- year- old.”

    The judges for the inaugural competitions were Jude Abaga popularly known as MI, Waje Iruobe and Chidinma Ekile, all musicians.

    Reinforcing the brand belief in its core audience, Cussons Baby Senior Brand Manager Family Care, Oluwaseun Ayeni said the brand believes that all babies are uniquely gifted and that is the reason the Cussons Baby added to the earlier platform- Cussons Baby Moments Competition, to give toddlers between  ages two and five years the opportunity to share their amazing talents.

    She, however, thanked Cussons Baby for believing in the Nigerian child and not only providing them with world class baby lotion, soaps, oil and powder but  giving them the opportunity to express themselves through dancing, singing, choreographing and other talents.

    Cussons Baby launches First Toddler Talent contest

    Cussons Baby brand has launched another edition of baby contest project that gives toddlers between two years to five years old the opportunity to exhibit their talents in singing, dancing and poetry.

    Tagged: “Cussons Baby Toddler Grow and Shine”, sensational and contemporary music stars in Jude Abaga popularly known as MI, Waje Iruobe and Chidinma have been selected as judges for the contest.

    According to the Category Manager, Family Care, Mrs. Mildred Bagshaw, the initiative is as a result of a response from the consumers-basically parents, who said through their feedbacks that the brand should move a notch higher by introducing a talent contest for the toddlers.

    According to her, the new initiative is tied to the brand communication platform of Cussons Baby Moments, which is celebrating exciting and happy moments with children.

    “The motivation for the brand came from the consumers. They are the ones that we are here for and this is a direct response to the feedbacks that we have got from the two editions of the Cussons Baby Moments, where some parents wanted us to take it a notch higher and include children that were older than the target audience, which we are looking for in the photo competition.”

    Also, MI, who spoke for other judges, said the team is passionate about the new assignment and will put in everything to ensure that the kids are properly judged.

    “They have done a fantastic job of conceptualising and putting the event together. It makes it for me and my team to fit because we have been part of this as musicians,” he said.

    To participate, the Brand Manager, Oluwaseun Ayeni said: “All the parents need to do is to purchase the Cussons Baby promo gift pack and enroll their toddlers at any of the registration points. There are two auditions and the first is happening on Friday (today) and the next one is next week Thursday and then we will have a finale where the overall winner will emerge.’’

  • PZ Cussons streamlines operations to enhance returns

    PZ Cussons Nigeria Plc has embarked on a restructuring programme aimed at streamlining the operations of the conglomerate, minimise costs and unlock global synergies that could enhance performance and returns to shareholders.

    Chairman, PZ Cussons Nigeria Plc, Chief Kola Jamodu, outlined the programme in a preview presented to shareholders at the Annual General Meeting of the company in Calabar, the Cross Rivers State capital.

    Shareholders at the meeting approved the distribution of N2.4 billion as final dividend, bringing total dividend for the year ended May 31, 2015 to N3.19 billion. The company had distributed interim dividend of N794 million.

    With the approval, shareholders will receive a final dividend per share of 61 kobo, in addition to interim dividend per share of 20 kobo, representing a total dividend per share 81 kobo, the same amount paid in the previous year. The final dividend becomes payable today.

    Jamodu said the company was geared towards meeting stakeholders’expectations by deploying the right strategic and tactical plans to deliver a strong performance in the years ahead.

    He outlined that the company, as part of the global PZ Cussons, is adapting its management structure to reposition as a consumer-led company.

    “The impact of this is that brands which have a global presence will be managed centrally, thus reducing the cost of implementing consumer relevant product innovations and offerings, and a similar approach will be adopted for regional brands. The supply chain is being integrated into a single structure across the globe and the sales function of will align across defined route to market strategies with consistent ways of working,” Jamodu said.

    He however added the centralisation will not undermine local insights as market peculiarities would still be taking into consideration on the company’s new product developments to ensure that consumers in the local markets are the driving force of the company’s investments.

    According to him, the optimisation of the company’s supply chain processes will continue while it will also continue to invest in its core brands and growth categories through its planned extension into new routes to market, thus minimising the cost base.

    He expressed optimism on the macroeconomic outlook noting that the events and developments since the emergence of the new government of President Muhammadu Buhari have strengthened the company’s confidence.

    Jamodu said PZ Cussons Nigeria has continued to brace the odds in delivering competitive results.

    Key extracts of the audited report and accounts of PZ Cussons Nigeria for the year ended May 31, 2015 showed that total sales rose marginally from N72.90 billion in 2014 to N73.12 billion in 2015. The company’s top-line cost of sales dropped by 1.9 per cent to N52.67 billion in 2015 as against N53.71 billion in 204. However, operating expenses increased by 7.1 per cent from N12.89 billion to N13.8 billion.

    The company also came under pressure from financing costs, which rose by 215.4 per cent from N141.05 million to N444.86 million. Consequently, profit before tax slipped by 5.66 percent from N6.95 billion to N6.56 billion. Profit after tax also declined by 10.7 per cent to N4.6 billion compared with N5.1 billion in the previous year. Earnings per share dropped by 11.72 per cent to N1.03 as against N1.16 in 2014. The conglomerate’s net assets, meanwhile, inched up 2.67 per cent from N42.54 billion in 2014 to N43.67 billion.

    “Overall, it is gratifying to note that after taking into account the impact of the tough operating conditions and competitive environment, our company performed satisfactorily against peers in the sector. We are also well poised to sustain and improve on this base going into the future,” Jamodu assured.

    He pointed out that the company had maintained a strong cash position despite accelerated payments to foreign suppliers in the wake of the continued weakening of the Naira.

    Following a seven-day trip to Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE’s) commercial city by Morireoluwa Davids and her family for winning the second edition of Cussons Baby Moment, the Brand Manager Cussons Baby, Oluwaseun Ayeni, has said the brand has fulfilled its promise to the winner and is ready to offer more to its customers.

    Describing her experience as interesting, the winner’s mother, Funmilayo David, urged mothers to participate with in the Cussons Baby Moment contest, saying it is life-transforming.

    She said: “It was fun-filled and interesting. We went to Dubai Mall, which is the biggest mall in the world and afterwards to see the dancing fountain, behind it was the tallest building in the world (Burj Khalifa). It was awesome and beautiful.

    “The whole trip has been eventful filled with sweet memories. We are saying thank you to Cussons Baby for this opportunity to explore Dubai, which I heard was a beautiful city and I have confirmed it is really beautiful.

    “It was a fun experience and the family had so much to look forward to anytime around.”

    On the objectives of the competition, Ayeni said it is about rewarding the customers and giving parents the opportunity to showcase their beautiful babies.

    She said: “It is all about giving families an opportunity to showcase their beautiful bundles of joy for a chance to go on an all-expense paid trip. It is also about providing a platform to communicate one on one with our consumers and the opportunity to meet new consumers.

    It was a dream come true for the family of Mr. Yinka and Mrs. Funmi Davies recently when the management of multinational, PZ, presented the prize of the Cussons Baby Moments to they and their daughter, Morireoluwa.

    At a presentation ceremony held at PZ’s office in Ilupeju, officials of the company stressed the need to actualise plans that can bring about the best in children.

    According to Cussons’ Brand Manager, Ayeni Oluwaseun, the competition gives parents the opportunity to showcase amazing things their babies are made of.

    “It made parents take amazing pictures of their babies. Children do interesting things when where are there and when we are not.”

    Ayeni added that the prize entailed supply of Cussons products to the family and an all-expense-paid trip abroad.

    Besides, Morireoluwa will be the face of the products in the next one year.

    Mr. Davies thanked PZ for giving the family the opportunity. He recalled that he and his wife registered for the competition last December, when they bought the products at the Ikeja Shopping Mall in Lagos.

    Also commending PZ, Morireoluwa’s mother said: “Whatever our daughter becomes in life, she will always remember that when she was a year old, she won this award. This is a great platform to start from.”

    On the impact of the competition on the brand, Ayeni said it had improved on people’s awareness about Cussons as many want to associate with caring for children.

  • Cussons Baby new variant launched

    Cussons Baby, a leading PZ Cussons brand, has recently introduced a new variant to its Baby Care Range. The new variant was developed to assuage key concern areas of protection and care for mothers and care givers.

    The marketing manager, Mildred Bagshaw, said the new variant was borne out of consumer intense studies and needs to manage heat and rashes in babies.

    She further said the new variant comes with the distinct benefit of protecting baby’s skin from germs that cause skin irritation thus ensuring baby’s skin stay and remains healthy at all times.

    She noted that the objective of the new addition to PZ brand portfolio of baby care products is to ensure availability of a complete baby care range that provides care solutions for different baby skin needs.

    “Its aims to compliment the existing variants. Mild and gentle [Blue] which contains milk and chamomile to nourish and soothe baby’s tender skin and soft and smooth [Pink] with rose and almond oil which keeps baby’s skin soft and well moisturised,” she maintained.
