    NYSC mobilises 117 pioneer graduates of CUSTECH for service 

    A total of 117 pioneer graduates from Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, Kogi State, have been mobilized for national service by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

    The Vice-Chancellor of CUSTECH, Prof Abdulrahman Salawu, confirmed this development in a statement released over the weekend in Abuja.

    The statement also conveyed the appreciation of the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Council, Management, Staff, and Students to the visionary founder of CUSTECH, Yahaya Bello, the immediate past Governor of Kogi State.

    The statement said: “This historic milestone marks a significant achievement for the young institution, as its first-ever graduates commence their national service, exemplifying the university’s dedication to producing globally competent graduates ready to serve the nation.

    “His foresight and unwavering commitment to education led to the establishment of the university, which has rapidly grown into a beacon of academic excellence in less than five years of its existence.”

    The university also expressed appreciation to Governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Ododo, “for his steadfast support and dedication to the continued growth of the institution.”

    It noted that Ododo’s administration has maintained a strong focus on education, ensuring that institutions like CUSTECH thrive and contribute meaningfully to national development.

    The statement added: “CUSTECH has made remarkable strides in expanding its academic offerings. In a span of four years, the academic programmes have increased from 11 to 56 programmes, an unprecedented development in the Nigerian University System. 

    “The courses are in Medical Sciences (Medicine, Nursing, etc), Agricultural Sciences, Engineering, Computing, Law and other cutting-edge fields. 

    “This growth reflects the solid foundation laid by the founder, and the former Executive Governor, Alh Yahaya Bello and the strong support and unceasing commitment by the current Executive Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo. The monumental growth is a demonstration of the university’s commitment to addressing the critical needs of Nigeria’s economy and preparing students for leadership roles in these sectors. Availability of adequate facilities coupled with a conducive learning environment have greatly enhanced learning thereby enabling 14 of the graduates to obtain first degrees.”

    The management of CUSTECH urged the pioneer graduates to be exemplary ambassadors of the university and make meaningful contributions during their service year. 

    It expressed confidence that these graduates would uphold the university’s values and showcase the quality education they have received.

    “As the pioneer set embarks on this transformative journey, CUSTECH reaffirms its commitment to excellence, innovation, and contributing to Nigeria’s socio-economic growth,” the statement added.

    Kogi Gov signs law establishing CUSTECH Teaching Hospital Okene

    Kogi Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has signed a bill converting the state-of-the-art Reference Hospital, Okene into the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH) Teaching Hospital.

    This was announced in Lokoja on Tuesday by Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, during a briefing.

    The move aligns with the National Universities Commission’s approval of a full-time Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) program, among other medical courses, at CUSTECH. According to Mr. Fanwo, the step ensures the program begins on a solid foundation.

    “This achievement is the result of months of coordinated engagement between the university, the State Ministry of Health, and the State Ministry of Education. We commend the State House of Assembly for passing the bill, which has now been signed into law by Governor Ododo,” Fanwo said.

    He emphasised the administration’s prioritisation of ealthcare, noting that the former Reference Hospital —now the CUSTECH Teaching Hospital— is equipped with world-class medical facilities, some of which are debuting for the first time in Africa.

    “With this development, CUSTECH will have cutting-edge medical technology to train outstanding healthcare professionals for Kogi State and beyond,” he added.

    Fanwo further highlighted the administration’s commitment to healthcare and education, describing the signing as a significant milestone in the state’s progress. He also expressed gratitude to the State House of Assembly for their collective effort in creating this historic achievement.

    With the bill now law, CUSTECH is poised to effectively commence its MBBS program.

    CUSTECH begins admission with 50 programmes

    The Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, has officially launched its admissions process for the 2024/2025 academic session, offering entry into all 50 programmes accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

    Registrar of CUSTECH, Mrs. Olufunke Hudson, said that the programmes, spread across the institution’s eight faculties, are now available on the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) platform for prospective students to select.

    According to the registrar, candidates seeking admission into the university should have selected CUSTECH as university of first choice during the process of applying for admission while those wishing to change their current choice to CUSTECH must update their preferences on the JAMB portal.

    She said candidates can also select the desired programme/course for which he/she has the requisite UTME and O’Level subject combinations.

    On eligibility of candidates for post-UTME, the Registrar said candidates should ensure that they have the right UTME subject combination and at least five credits in relevant O’Level subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, as required for the programme selected.

    She further stated that candidates who scored a minimum of 140 in the UTME can apply, adding that candidates should ensure that their O’Level results are successfully uploaded on the JAMB portal for admissions.

    “Any candidate whose results are not uploaded will not be available on JAMB’s Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) for the admission to be processed,” she said.

    She urged interested candidates Who want to register for Post-UTME, to proceed to the university’s website, www.custech.edu.ng.

    “The Direct Entry candidate should also register and upload his/her results. Again, the candidate should ensure that he/she has the right UTME subject combination and at least five credits in relevant O’Level subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, as required for the programme selected. The registration attracts a fee of N2,000 (Two thousand Naira only),” she said.

    She said the deadline for change of institution to CUSTECH, and registration for post-UTME screening is on or before Friday, 11th October 2024.

    Faculties and programmes available at the Institution are: Faculty of Science: Applied Geophysics, Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Microbiology, Physics and Statistics; Faculty of Computing and Informatics: Computer Science, Cyber-Security, Software Engineering, Information Technology, and Library and Information Science.

    Others are: Faculty of Engineering: Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Mining Engineering, Materials and Metallurgical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Marine Engineering, Petroleum and Gas Engineering, and Mechatronics Engineering; Faculty of Environmental Sciences: Architecture, Building, Urban and Regional Planning, Surveying and Geo-informatics and Geography. Faculty of Science and Technology Education: Biology Education, Chemistry Education, Computer Science Education, Geography Education, Mathematics Education and Physics Education and Technology/Technical Education.

    The university is also offering admission fof programmes in: Faculty of Management and Social Sciences: Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resource Management, Actuarial Science, Transport and Logistics Management and Economics; College of Medical Sciences/Faculty of Basic and Health Sciences: Anatomy, Physiology, Nursing Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Physiotherapy, and Radiography; and Faculty of Agriculture: Agriculture.”

    The National Universities Commission (NUC) has given full accreditation for all the take-off academic programmes of Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, Kogi State.

    The Registrar of CUSTECH, Ms. Olufunke Hudson confirmed this in a statement on Wednesday, saying the full accreditation status highlighted the university’s dedication to upholding excellence.

    The statement said the development has positioned CUSTECH among the esteemed institutions renowned for upholding the utmost standards of academic undertakings and quality.

    The accredited programmes include Biochemistry, Microbiology, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Mathematics, and Statistics. Others are Computer Science, Cyber Security, Software Engineering, and Information Technology.

    The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Abdulrahman Salawu, expressed delight over the feat.

    Salawu said: “We are delighted to have obtained full accreditation for all programmes tendered for evaluation, which serves as evidence of the commitment and effort put forth by our staff and students.

    “This achievement demonstrates our steadfast dedication to delivering a high-quality education that equips our students for prosperous futures.”

    Professor Salawu disclosed that the university was keeping pace with its academic development plans as it has forwarded applications for the establishment of six more programmes to the NUC for approval which will commence with the newly approved ones in the 2024/2025 academic session.

    The programmes, which are largely in Medical Sciences, included: Medicine, Physiotherapy, and Radiography.

    Others are Law, Agriculture and Agricultural Engineering.

    The VC disclosed that the proposed teaching hospital facility for clinical training was already operational.

    The Registrar described the accreditation success as an accomplishment that showcased the institution’s unwavering dedication to excellence and commitment to students with a top-tier education.

    Mrs Hudson revealed that the NUC has also conveyed approval to establish eight new programmes in addition to the existing ones.

    The newly approved programmes are Materials and Metallurgical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Marine Engineering and Petroleum and Gas Engineering. Others are Anatomy, Physiology, Nursing Science and Medical Laboratory Science.

    The programmes are said to be available on the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) for prospective candidates to switch over to in the ongoing admission exercise.

    It should be recalled that there are 38 programmes currently being offered in the six faculties of CUSTECH.

    They are science: Biochemistry, Microbiology, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Geology, and Applied Geophysics; Computing and informatics: Computer Science, Cyber Security, Software Engineering, Information Technology, and Library and Information Science; and ENGINEERING: Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Chemical Engineering.

    Others are environmental sciences: Architecture, Building, Urban and Regional Planning, Surveying and Geo-informatics, and Geography; science and technology education: Biology Education, Chemistry Education, Physics Education, Mathematics Education, Computer Science Education, Geography Education, and Technology (Technical) Education; and management and social sciences: Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Actuarial Science, Human Resource Management, and Transport and Logistics Management.
