One time political bigwig, Dahiru Mangal, has once again resurfaced on the social scene after a prolonged romance with obscurity. The business mogul and oil baron was recently spotted at the wedding of his son, Muhammad Dahiru Mangal, to Aisha, a daughter of Sokoto State governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.

The wedding was well attended with guests, including eminent figures in the socio-political sphere. Before his disappearance, Dahiru Mangal was a powerbroker, especially during the time of former President Musa Yar’Adua. In those days, Mangal bestrode the Aso Rock Presidential Villa like a colossus, making and unmaking political fortunes on a whim.

The untimely death of Yar’Adua, however, yanked him off the political stratosphere as quickly as he had climbed on to it. Since then, the boss of Max Air and Mangal Petroleum has been keeping a low profile.

Like a grizzly bear shaking the snow off its shaggy coat after hibernating from long winter, Dahiru Manga has resurfaced in public after years of absence from the limelight. Once numbered among the few Nigerians with access to former President Umaru Yar’Adua, Manga’s social star fell from the sky with the former president’s demise and little had been seen or heard of him ever since.

In his heyday, the billionaire owner of AFDIN Group and D.B Mangal Petroleum was never far from controversy. His love life was a juicy source of stories for gossip journals until he faded off the social radar.

Now the brains behind Max Airlines is back in town, and he made sure that he did so with a bang. He recently moved into his new residence in highbrow Maitama district, Abuja. The multi-million naira mansion is an architectural masterpiece which has set tongues wagging.

If there was one name that loomed large during the Yar’Adua administration, it was that of Dahiru Mangal. He built a reputation for himself as a friend of the late Nigerian President. After the death of Alhaji Umaru Yar’Adua, however, the billionaire businessman disappeared from the social radar.

But after years of hiatus from the social scene, the highly connected brains behind Max Airlines is in the news again as he recently moved from his Wuse home in Iluobe area of Abuja to a place around the Ministerial Hill in Maitama. The new edifice reportedly cost the businessman about N5 billion.

Needless to say that the house is now the talk of the town in Abuja, with many saying that Dahiru had simply disappeared from the social scene to restrategise.
