Court restrains PDP’s NEC, BoT from removing acting national chair Damagum

A Federal High Court in Abuja has issued an order restraining the National Executive Committee (NEC) and Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from removing the party’s acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum.

The court equally ordered that no other person must be recognized as PDP’s Chair other than Damagum until the national convention of the party scheduled for December next year.

Justice Peter Lifu issued the  orders against PDP NEC, BoT and others in judgment delivered via zoom in Friday in a suit, marked: FHC/ABJ/ CS/579/2024 filed by Senator Umar El-Gash Maina.

Justice Lifu held that in line with Articles 42, 47 and 67 of PDP, it is only at the National Convention of the party that national officers can be elected .

The judge said PDP members are bound by the Constitution of the party and as such must always act in line with the provisions and obedience to the party’s law

The plaintiff, who claimed to be chairman of PDP in Yobe state had instituted the suit against PDP and eight others alleging that some stakeholders of the party have been holding clandestine meetings to forcefully remove Damagum from office in gross violation of the party’s Constitution.

He said that a former Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Dr Phillip Omeiza Salawu was being pushed forward as replacement for Damagun by the stakeholders.

Maina claimed that upon becoming aware of the plan, two separate letters complaining against the clandestine meetings were delivered to the national secretary of the party, Senator Samuel Anyanwu and that despite the acknowledgment of the two letters, the National Secretary and BoT members have never deemed it fit to act on the letters and their claims.

In the suit instituted on his behalf by Joshua Musa, SAN, the plaintiff therefore prayed the court to invoke article 45, 47 and 67 of PDP Constitution to stop the move to replace Damagum as the acting national chairman.

The plaintiff specifically asked the court to declare that the national chairmanship of PDP is rotated between the north and south region and not through any other procedure not enshrined in the PDP’s Constitution.

In his judgment after perusing the PDP’s Constitution and exhibits, Justice Lifu agreed with the plaintiff that Damagum can only be replaced at the national convention of PDP or through an order of a court.

Justice Lifu also held that any attempt to truncate un-exhausted four years tenure of the northern region without the national convention of the party will amount to an affront to the Constitution of the PDP.

Earlier, the judge had dismissed the opposition of the defendants to the suit on the grounds that the plaintiff had no locus standi to bring out the case and that the court lacked jurisdiction.

Justice Lifu held that the plaintiff predicated his suit on the protection of PDP Constitution from been violated and the northern region where he hailed from from been short changed from the four year tenure.

Justice Lifu said that the plaintiff having displayed his PDP membership card before the court and having raised the fundamental issue of protection PDP’s Constitution had sufficient interest and justiciable cause to institute the case.

The judge therefore declared that PDP NEC and BoT are bound by the party’s Constitution and that Damagum as national chairman can only be replaced through the national convention of the party.

He also held that Damagum having been appointed from the northern region where the former national chairman Senator Iyorcha Ayu hailed from is entitled to serve out the remaining tenure of the national chairman.

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) has suspended the party’s National Chairman, Umar Damagum, and National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu.

The development gollowed the earlier suspension of National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba and National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade, who had called on Damagum to strictly follow the party’s constitution.

PDP national director of publicity, Chinwe Nnorom, announced the suspensions of Ologunagba and Ajibade after a meeting of the NWC on Thursday, citing pending investigations into allegations against them.

A committee, led by Deputy National Chairman (South) Taofeek Arapaja, was set up to probe the accusations.

In a surprising turn of events, Ologunagba responded by announcing the suspension of Damagum and Anyanwu on Friday.

He cited violations of the PDP constitution, particularly their handling of an appeal involving 27 former Rivers State House of Assembly members who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The NWC condemned their actions as anti-party activities and suspended them from all party functions, pending an investigation by the National Disciplinary Committee.

The statement read in part: “The National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP has extensively considered the series of complaints raised against the Acting National Chairman, Amb. Illiya Damagum and National Secretary, Sen. Samuel Anyanwu particularly with regard to the letter addressed by them to the Court of Appeal in Appeal No:CA/PH/307/2024 against the party’s position in the case involving the 27 former members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who vacated their seats upon decamping from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“The NWC condemned this anti-party activity of the Acting National Chairman and the National Secretary which is in gross violation of the provisions of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017) and their Oath of Office.

“Consequently, the NWC, pursuant to Sections 57, 58 and 59 of the PDP Constitution, has suspended Amb. Illiya Damagum and Sen. “In the meantime, the two officials are suspended from all meetings, activities and programs of the NWC pending the conclusion of an investigation by the National Disciplinary Committee.”

Formerly serving as the PDP National Deputy Chairman (North), Damagum assumed the position of acting National Chairman after the court suspended the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.

Damagun, who hails from Yobe State in the North-east, is believed to be an ally of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri yesterday pledged his support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Acting National Chairman,  Ambassador Umar Damagum.

The governor, who reflected on the division in the party over its interim leadership, reiterated his confidence in the ability of the acting chairman.

However, Osun State Governor Ademola urged chieftains to stick to the party constitution in whatever decision they may take on the PDP leadership question

Fintiri wrote on his X handle: “Solidly in support of Amb. Umar Damagum as National Chairman of @OfficialPDPNig! His leadership has restored public confidence, and we are confident he will steer the party to greater heights,”

He urged members to “respect the court ruling and uphold our democracy,” signaling his alignment with those favoring Damagum’s leadership.

Fintiri’s endorsement followed the split in thd PDP Governors’ Forum on whether to retain Damagum as the party chairman or shop for a replacement.

On Tuesday, a faction of the National Working Committee (NWC) met with Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, who expressed dissatisfaction with Damagum’s leadership.

Mohammed said the party should replace him, saying that his tenure “untenable.”

He said the Northcentral zone is constitutionally entitled to fill the leadership vacancy because the last chairman,  who could not complete his tenure, Senator Iyorcha Ayu, is from the zone.

Mohammed said: “My brother from the Northeast is currently serving as Acting National Chairman, which is constitutionally inappropriate.”

The governor insisted that PDP should “ensure that the Northcentral is given the chance to assume this responsibility.”

However, at a separate NWC chaired by Damagum at Ibadan, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde backed the interim leadership.

He said: “Let me say clearly that we are 100 per cent in support of the Damagum-led NWC.”

    Adeleke: let’s follow constitution

Adeleke has urged stakeholders to adhere to the party’s constitution in seeking solutions to the crisis.

He said in a statement by his spokesman, Olawale Rasheed, that on the party constitution he stood.

Adeleke said:  “I stand by the constitution of our great party which clearly spelt out the succession procedure in case of the exit of an elected chairman.

“I also stand by the resolution of the PDP Governors’ Forum of which I am an integral part.”

He added: “Our party must adhere to its constitution at this critical time and at all times. That is the way to build a responsible political party.”

The Board of Trustees (BoT) members yesterday held a meeting  with the PDP caucus in the National Assembly at the party secretariat in Abuja.

BoT Chairman.Adolphus Nwabara, Secretary Senator Ahmed Makarfi, and other members also met with Governor Mohammed in Bauchi.

Also at the meetings were Senate Deputy Minority Leader, Lere Oyewumi, House of Representatives Minority Whip,  Ali Isa JC, and Pastor Ojema Ojotu.

More confusion in PDP over national chair Damagum

More confusion reigned on Thursday within the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over calls for and against the continued stay of its acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Ilyas Damagum.

On Thursday, Adamawa Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri posted a statement via his handle, @GovernorAUF on on X to express support for the embattled acting party chairman.

“Solidly in support of Amb. Umar Damagum as National Chairman of @OfficialPDPNig! His leadership has restored public confidence, and we are confident he will steer the party to greater heights. Let’s respect the court ruling and uphold our democracy,” Fintiri stated.

On Tuesday, Bauchi Governor, Bala Mohammed, who is also Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, hinted the leadership of the party had resolved to replace Damagum with someone from the North Central.

However, on Wednesday, Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde declared he and his Osun counterpart Ademola Adeleke were solidly behind Damagum.

“Let me say clearly, I have been discussing with my brother (Governor Adeleke) on our way here, that we are 100 per cent in support of the Iliya Damagum-led NWC; whatever decision you take, we will support you, to reposition our party,” Makinde had said.

But in an apparent move to untangle himself from Makinde’s declaration, Adeleke issued a statement through his spokesman, Mallam Olawale Rasheed on Thursday, asserting he supports whatever the PDP constitution and the PDP Governors’ Forum decide on the matter.

“Governor Ademola Adeleke has clarified his position on the raging leadership crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), declaring that he stands by the relevant provisions of the PDP Constitution.

“I stand by the Constitution of our great party which clearly spelt out the succession procedure in case of the exit of an elected chairman.

PDP governors, NWC resolve to remove Damagum as acting national chairman

Governors elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) have agreed to remove Iliya Umar Damagum from his position as acting national chairman.

Bauchi state governor, Bala Mohammed, who also serves as chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, disclosed this decision on Tuesday night after a meeting with the NWC.

The Nation reports that Damagum is a close ally of Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister.

Damagum was appointed acting national chairman after the removal of Iyorchia Ayu in June 2023.

Speaking about the ongoing leadership crisis within the party, Governor Mohammed explained that it is a “constitutional aberration” for Damagum to continue in office.

He revealed that the North Central region should be allowed to complete the term of former chairman Ayu, who hails from Benue State.

“My brother from the North East is currently serving as Acting National Chairman, which is constitutionally inappropriate,” Mohammed said.

“According to our party’s constitution, any leadership vacancy should be filled by someone from the region where it originated.”

He added: “North Central has been eager for this opportunity, and we’ve discussed this issue. We are committed to working with the NWC and the party to ensure that the North Central is given the chance to assume this responsibility.”

Governor Mohammed also pointed out that the North East had previously benefited from a similar arrangement when former Governor Ahmadu Muazu took over as PDP national chairman after the resignation of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur.

    • Wike tackles Clark, vows to remain in party

The plot to remove Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Acting Chairman Ambassador Illyas Damagum has sparked a fresh crisis in the main opposition party.

Also, the disagreement over reconciliation moves in the party has polarised its chieftains.

Damagum, who set up the reunion committee and disciplinary panel, alleged plans by some forces in the party to remove him as head of the National Working Committee (NWC) and National Executive Committee (NEC).

Firing salvos at the internal opposition in the fold, Damagum vowed to resist intimidation and frustrate their agenda for change of leadership.

Also yesterday, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike chided Chief Edwin Clark, for calling for a probe in the party, saying that it is unwarranted.

The minister, who vowed to remain in the PDP, said he will also continue to defend the acting chairman because he occupied the position in accordance with the party constitution.

Wike emphasised that Damagun can only be removed as acting chairman by the PDP National Convention,  which is the highest decision making organ.

    No to internal contradiction

The acting chairman took a swipe at what he described as proxy interests, internal opposition, and agents of destruction, saying that he would not bow to pressure or intimidation.

Damagum, who reflected on the opposition to his interim leadership, shortly before setting up the two committees, warned detractors to desist from crippling the party ahead of 2027 polls.

He said for PDP to survive, the detractors should stop undermining the party leadership.

He said: “For those interested in seeing Damagum go, this is a buildup to undermine me before the coming NEC meeting. But if you bring Damagum down and lose the party, what have you achieved? Because in trying to bring me down, you are also bringing down your party.

“Every time people say the party is dying, they are sending a message to the opposition that we are weak. If you believe in the party, you should speak positively, unless you are an agent of destruction; you should be positive whenever you talk if you believe in this party,.

Damagum lamented that some party members have arbitrarily distorted the PDP’s image in the media while others deliberately fail to acknowledge the success recorded by the party leadership, particularly the recently concluded ward congress in various states.

He objected to the criticism of the party leadership by Chief Clark, saying that the elderstatesman is sentimental.

The Acting Chairman said that the suggestion about reconciliation by the Board of Trustees (BoT), led by Senator Adolphus Wabara, and not the push for probe suggested by Clark, should be upheld.

Damagun said: “I want to use this opportunity also to address a letter from our elder statesman that has been brought to my attention. There is no doubt that he is an elder statesman, but I think that when you reach that age, God has given you the opportunity and wisdom to be a father to all, not to go to the market.

    Clark is 97 years old.

Wabara, who endorsed the peace moves, warned that if PDP fails to unite, Nigeria will become a one-party state.

He added: “This party should not be allowed to die in the hands of these two committees. So, I sincerely urge the two committees to function without fear or favour, no matter whose ox is gored, and as much as our Constitution—the Constitution of this great party—guides whatever decisions or actions you will take; failure of which, in my considered opinion, will lead to Nigeria becoming a one-party state with no democracy.”

    Party discipline has broken down

Chief Tom Ikimi said indiscipline is rampant in PDP, urging the party to enforce its rules against the misdemeanor.

He said:  “Discipline is a requirement for efficiency in any organization, including political parties. But for some time now, there has been a proliferation of gross indiscipline, which has caused the party electoral misfortune. The fundamental problem of the PDP in the 2023 election was gross indiscipline.”

    Reconciliation, a joint responsibility

Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola described reconciliation as a shared responsibility,  urging party members to embrace peace.

He said “PDP is a beacon of hope for national progress,” advising the chieftains to Bury their differences.

He said: “Our challenges may be many, but they are not insurmountable. We can’t help our people unless we win elections, and we can’t win elections without having a strong party. Nigerians need the PDP to rescue the country.”

    Damagun can’t be removed

Wike emphasised that the power to remove Damagumas as acting chairman can only be exercised by the National Convention.

The minister, who spoke on the brewing party crisis, on a live television programme, faulted the plot against Damagum, saying that it is illegal.

He said it would be unlawful to appoint an unelected acting chairman and ask him to preside over the affairs of the National Working Committee (NWC) members who were all elected into such positions.

Wike also reflected on the Rivers State crisis, blaming Governor Siminalayi Fubara for the rift.

He said: “In good conscience, I fought for Fubara to become governor without any regrets and you now say you don’t want to be part of the family; no problem. Aregbesola was brought by Tinubu, but he’s no longer with the president again.

“In all honesty, I can tell you that there is no going back and my people know. What support? Have I come out of the one I did? Some people don’t play politics of integrity, but I do. He’s the one that says ‘dey your dey.’ So, let me ‘dey my dey.’ This doesn’t worry me because I’m focused on the mandate Mr President gave me in FCT.”

The FCT minister also denied speculation that he was planning to leave the PDP, saying that he does not run from a fight.

Wike said: “I don’t run away from any fight. I will stay there; I will fight it out. Who am I going to run from? The vampires? I cannot do that.

“I will not leave PDP, even when the fight at home (Rivers State) and at the national level gets tougher. I will fight to the last. I am not prepared to join the APC. I have said it and I want to repeat it. The work I am doing here was handed over to me by the president. And I am focused on achieving the task before me.

“I will not fold my arms and allow the party I have suffered for over the years to continuously do injustice to members. I will not accept that”.

Wike said he could not understand why Clark was criticising him, despite sharing his thoughts on power shift to Ijaw in Rivers State.

He said: “I don’t know the party Chief Clark belongs to, but in 2014 when I came out to run, he said no because it’s the turn of the Ijaws. He said nothing will make me win, but to the glory of God I won.

“I wasn’t a bad person when I championed for an Ijaw man to be governor, but I have become a bad person because there are issues. There is nothing Clark has not said, but I vowed never to respond”

“He (Clark) spoke about the Southern President, which I supported; he spoke about power rotation to the South; which I believed in. So, what crime have I committed?”

He added: “In leadership, everything must not be smooth; I had my own crisis when I was there. Did I blame anybody? I faced the crisis squarely. When I was there, you all saw what the Federal Government did to me. Did I accuse any ethnic group? No.

“If you are in a leadership position, you should be able to stand and face the crisis. That’s what politics is all about. Sometimes it will be good and other times it won’t be rosy.”

Arewa group tackles Clark over Rivers crisis

A group, Arewa Youths for Peaceful Coexistence, faulted  Clarks’s position on the Rivers crisis, particularly the status of tgex37 members of the House of Assembly.

The group, in a statement by its National Chairman,  Haruna Bature and Chairman of Abuja chapter,  Ogah Okpanachi, said Clark as an elder, ought to play advisory and mediatory role instead of taking side with Fubara.

It urged Clark to retract his letter and assume the proper fatherly and mediatory role expected of him as an elder statesman.

The statement reads: “We are greatly shocked and disappointed by the toxic hatred and bitterness expressed in the letter against Alh. Illya Damagun and Sen. Samuel Anyanwu and the FCT Minister, Chief Barr. E.N. Wike in favour of the 27 PDP Lawmakers of Rivers State.

“We wonder why the elder statesman, Chief Edwin K. Clark, who is supposed to be a mediator between the two factions suddenly lost touch with his status, role and threw caution to the wind by taking sides with Governor Sim. Fubara to sacrifice the 27 PDP Lawmakers, forgetting that all the parties in this crisis are bonafide and prominent indigenes of Rivers State whose interests must never be sacrificed for another. “

“The legal technicalities of the alleged defection of the 27 PDP lawmakers of Rivers State have been severally challenged and judgments passed in favour of the 27 PDP Rivers State lawmakers at the Federal High Court and Court of Appeal, and therefore, we expected the elder statesman to have chosen the path of peaceful mediation and reconciliation to give proper closure to the issues in contention.

“We categorically wish to state that the actions of Alh. Illya Damagun and Sen. Samuel Anyanwu of properly informing the Court of the position of the party is to give all the parties in Rivers State crisis fair grounds to litigate their matters in court without fear or favour and should never be condemned for such actions.

“We wish to remind Chief Edwin K. Clark that all the parties in the Rivers State crisis, especially Wike, have fundamental rights enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria which cannot and must never be compromised or sacrificed for any petty personal or regional sentiments.

“We call on Chief Edwin K. Clark to immediately retract the letter, apologize to the parties mentioned in the letter and assume the proper fatherly and mediatory role expected of him as an elder statesman.”

2027 poll: Damagum denounces internal opposition in PDP, calls for unity

The acting national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ambassador Ilyas Damagum, has declared that despite proxy interests, internal opposition, and agents of destruction within the party, no form of pressure or intimidation can change the party’s current leadership.

He said this while speaking shortly before inaugurating the party’s new National Disciplinary Committee and National Reconciliation Committee at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday, August 21.

Damagum, who jokingly said that detractors’ criticism has now made him popular enough to become a presidential candidate, also acknowledged the existence of proxy interests and emphasized that ongoing attempts to bring him down in the intrigues toward the 2027 elections should be seen as efforts toward destroying the PDP.

He said: “So, for those interested in seeing Damagum go, this is a buildup to undermine me before the coming NEC (National Executive Council meeting). But if you bring Damagum down and lose the party, what have you achieved? Because in trying to bring me down, you are also bringing down your party.

“Every time people say the party is dying, they are sending a message to the opposition that we are weak. If you believe in the party, you should speak positively, unless you are an agent of destruction; you should be positive whenever you talk if you believe in this party,”

He also expressed disappointment that some party members arbitrarily distort the PDP’s image in the mass media while others deliberately fail to acknowledge successes such as the recently concluded ward congress in various states.

Damagum also took a genteel swipe at elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark and joined the party’s Board of Trustees Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, in emphasising that the two new committees’ work will significantly decide the survival and fate of the PDP.

He added that even though he has come under intense pressure to clear the air over certain things, he is merely holding back out of respect for people like Chief Edwin Clark, who launched a scathing criticism against him early this week.

“You can say all sorts of things, but I know this is a buildup to the next election. It’s ‘Damagum must go, Damagum must go,’ but I thank God, people are making me very popular lately. Anytime you open social media or television, it’s ‘Damagu, Damagu,’ and honestly speaking, I’ve started contemplating throwing myself into the ring and vying for the presidency of this country because I’ve become popular. And even though the negative publicity is meant to bring me down, I’m not deterred,” he stated.

Reacting to Chief Edwin Clark, he said: “I want to use this opportunity also to address a letter from our elder statesman that has been brought to my attention. I don’t intend to speak much on it. I will borrow (former PDP National Publicity Secretary) Olisa Metuh’s remarks of 2015 when Edwin Clark left the party: there is no doubt that he is an elder statesman, but I thought that when you reach that age, God has given you the opportunity and wisdom to be a father to all, not to go to the market.

“He (Clark) has all it takes and access to do the needful, not by taking a sentimental approach to the situation. I was not raised to be disrespectful to elders, so I don’t intend to dwell on this further,” he said.

Urging all members of the two committees and party stakeholders to help provide an enabling environment for party members who will be contesting in 2027, Damagum dismissed the ruling All Progressives Congress as “a party that lacks sense, lacks ideas about how to govern the country, and seems unable to handle simple issues,” adding that members should “please, let’s leave our personal interests and proxy interests; let’s do the needful for the party.”

Earlier, in his brief remarks before taking an early exit, the National Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara, stressed that “this party should not be allowed to die in the hands of these two committees” and also pointed out that the committees’ inauguration “is the beginning of the future of this party and this nation,” adding that if they fail to achieve success, Nigeria will become a one-party nation.

In their respective acceptance speeches on behalf of their members, Chairman of the PDP National Disciplinary Committee, High Chief Tom Ikimi, talked tough, stressing the need for PDP to return to power by arresting rampant cases of gross indiscipline, while his counterpart in the party’s National Reconciliation Committee, Col. Olagunsoye Oyinlola, addressed party members in a conciliatory tone, pointing out that PDP’s success in 2027 requires a sense of shared responsibility by all members.

According to Ikimi, who expressed readiness to enforce disciplinary measures on any of his committee members who are found wanting, “Discipline is a requirement for efficiency in any organization, including political parties, but for some time now, there has been a proliferation of gross indiscipline, which has caused the party electoral misfortune. The fundamental problem of the PDP in the 2023 election was gross indiscipline.”

For Oyinlola, who asserted that “PDP is a beacon of hope for national progress,” the paramount issue is for all party members who have differences with one another to now seriously share the common goal of working toward re-creating PDP as a very strong political party.

“Our challenges may be many, but they are not insurmountable. We can’t help our people unless we win elections, and we can’t win elections without having a strong party. Nigerians need the PDP to rescue the country,” Oyinlola added

Damagum’s letter reignites crisis in Rivers PDP

A letter by the acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Ambassador Umar Damagum disowning the party’s National Legal Adviser, Mr. Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN) in a suit has reignited the crisis in the Rivers State branch of the party.

Damagum and the PDP National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, had in an August 16, 2024 letter to the Deputy Chief Registrar, Court of Appeal, Port Harcourt, said the party “did not authorise the filing” of a Notice of Discontinuance on July 24 in respect of a case involving the party at the Appeal Court.

The appeal with No CA/PH/307/2024 is principally against 27 members of the State House of Assembly who, on the 11th of December, 2023, defected from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Addressing reporters last night in Abuja, some PDP members of the House of Representatives from the state accused Damagum and Anyanwu of plotting to sabotage the party in the ongoing legal tussle involving the state lawmakers loyal to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

They said the letter by Damagum and Anyanwu “represents a blatant disregard for the constitutional authority of the PDP National Legal Adviser and a clear attempt to undermine the interests of the PDP.

The Reps led by Hon. Ikenga Ugochiyere alleged that Damagun and Anyanwu were plotting to hand over the party to the APC in Rivers state with a view to impeaching Governor Siminilaye Fubara state governor.

The lawmakers accused the two party leaders of a covert plot to sabotage PDP’s interests in an ongoing legal battle involving defected former members of the Rivers State House of Assembly which they say is part of a desperate and shameful effort to betray their own party, destroy all legal efforts and aid the pro-Wike APC elements to have the legal backing to attempt their impossible plot of removing the PDP government led by Governor Fubara out of office.

Ugochinyere called for immediate action, including reaffirming the authority of the National Legal Adviser, taking legal steps to restrain the National Chairman and Secretary from further interference, and convening a disciplinary committee to investigate their actions.

They claimed that the alleged  plot, if successful, could lead to the destruction of the PDP “as we know it, and this is something we cannot and will not allow to happen.
