  • Daura emirate council suspends Sallah celebrations

    The Daura Emirate Council in Katsina State says it has suspended all activities lined up to mark the forthcoming Eid-Al-fitr Sallah celebrations scheduled to commence next week.

    Malam Abdulmumini Salihu (Danejin Daura) made the disclosure on behalf of the emirate council in a statement issued in Daura on Monday.

    Salihu said that the suspension of the Sallah activities was due to the recent unfortunate security breaches bedeviling some parts of the state.

    He said that the recent happenings which led to the kidnap and brutal killings of some innocent citizens of the state were saddening and unfortunate.

    The emirate said it would use the period to commiserate with the government of the state, citizens and the victims’ relations over the unfortunate development.

    It added that during the day, only two raka’at Eid prayers would be observed after which marathon prayers and supplication would be conducted to invoke divine intervention over the precarious security challenges.

    The council however, directed all the 16 district heads, 245 village heads and the wards heads, to organise and supervise prayers in their areas of jurisdictions with a view to achieving lasting peace and stability nationwide.

    The district head of Daura, Alhaji Musa Umar-Uba was recently kidnapped at his residence in Daura by some unknown gunmen and since the incident, no contact was made with him or his abductors and the ancient town had been gloomy.

    34 people were last week brutally murdered in some parts of the state by some unknown gunmen, an incident which made the state government to assent to a law that prescribed capital punishment for kidnapping, cattle rustling and armed robbery.

    The Daura Emirate Council in Katsina State, said yesterday it would hold special prayers to thank God for the return of President Muhammadu Buhari from his medical vacation in London.

    The Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Farouk, said in his palace that the special prayers was to also to seek God’s grace for the well being of the nation.

    Farouk pledged that the emirate council would continue to support the Buhari led administration in its crusade against corruption, efforts at enhancing national security and its promotion agriculture in the country.

    He expressed confidence that the President would salvage the country and put it on the path of growth and development to effectively compete with advanced nations of the world.

    The Emir of Daura, Alhaji  Umar Farouk, said in his palace that the special prayers was to also to seek God’s grace for the well being of the nation.

    Farouk pledged that the emirate council would continue to support the Buhari led administration in its crusade against corruption, efforts at enhancing national security and its promotion agriculture in the country.

    He expressed confidence that the President would salvage the country and put it on the path of growth and development to effectively compete with advanced nations of the world.

    Meanwhile, a unionist, Comrade Ibrahim Killi, has attributed the recovery and safe return of the President to the tremendous goodwill and prayers of well meaning patriotic Nigerians.

    He expressed the belief that Buhari would aggressively pursue his agenda of reforming the country.

    Killi advised Buhari to focus on the provision of infrastructure, rehabilitation of roads, refineries and improving power supply as well as human development.

    Another resident, Alhaji Sani Zimbo, commended Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo for his loyalty and commitment to the unity of the country. “We salute his courage and administrative acumen,’’ he added.

    Daura Emirate Council holds prayer for Buhari

    The Daura Emirate Council in Katsina State on Friday conducted a marathon prayer session invoking Allah’s protection and good health for President Muhammadu Buhari.

    The Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Farouk led the prayers at his palace in Daura, attended by thousands of residents.

    The President who hails from Daura is currently in London on medical vacation.

    The emir said that Buhari needs prayers not only for his health, but also divine guidance to lead Nigeria to greatness.

    “Mr. President is our son and he deserves much more than this,” the emir added.

    Farouk told the residents that there was no cause for alarm regarding the President’s health, assuring that “going by available contacts we have on daily basis, the President is in high spirit.”

    The emir stressed that leaders need constant prayers from their subjects, hence the decision by the emirate to organise the prayer session.

    He observed that the nation was undergoing positive reforms under the Buhari leadership, as such “needs our encouragement, support and prayers for him to succeed and build a better Nigeria.”

    Chief Imams of major Juma’at mosques in Daura, Mai’adua, Zango, Sandamu and Baure Local Government Areas under the emirate conducted the prayers, which included recitation of the complete Qur’an eleven times.
