    FG pledges to uphold Buhari’s legacy as Shettima, Sambo, others pay tribute in Daura

    The Federal Government has pledged to preserve and build upon the “laudable legacies” of late former President Muhammadu Buhari. 

    This commitment was made on Thursday in Daura, Katsina State, during a solemn prayer session held in his honour.

    Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, led a high-powered federal delegation to the event, which drew dignitaries from across Nigeria and beyond, including former Benin Republic President and ex-Nigerian Vice President Namadi Sambo.

    Speaking at the Government House in Daura, Shettima described Buhari as one of Africa’s greatest sons, whose life was defined by discipline, sacrifice, and integrity.

    “In power, your friends know you. Out of power, you know your friends. In death, you reminded the world of the value of honour,” Shettima said.

    He added: “On behalf of President Tinubu, I assure you that the Federal Government remains committed to preserving Buhari’s legacy and protecting his family’s dignity.”

    Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umar Radda, expressed gratitude to the Federal Government and Nigerians for their show of solidarity.

    “We thank President Tinubu for his empathy and for assigning 25 ministers to remain in Katsina since the passing of our father and leader. Their presence speaks volumes,” he said, urging leaders to rule with the fear of God.

    The event was attended by several high-ranking officials, including Minister of Information Mohammed Idris, Minister of Budget and National Planning Atiku Bagudu, Minister of Health Ali Pate, Minister of Agriculture Abubakar Kyari, and Minister of Defence Badaru Abubakar. Former ministers Hadi Sirika and Isa Ali Pantami were also present.

    Other notable attendees included Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, Senators Abdulaziz Yar’adua and Sani Zangon Daura, members of the House of Representatives, top security chiefs, and former service heads such as Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai (rtd), Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd), and former IGPs Abubakar Sama’ila and Muhammad Dahiru Abubakar.

    Traditional rulers led by the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumin Kabir Usman; Emir of Daura, Alhaji Faruk Umar Faruk; and Sultan of Maradi, Niger Republic, Sultan Ahmed Ali Zaki Maremawa, graced the ceremony alongside kingmakers and district heads from the Katsina and Daura Emirates.

    Leading the prayer session were renowned Islamic scholars including Sheikh Abdullahi Bala Lau, Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir, Sheikh Kabir Muhammad Haruna, Sheikh Ahmad Sulaiman Ibrahim, and Sheikh Ibrahim Ahmad Maqary.

    Shettima, governors head to Daura for Buhari’s third-day prayer

    Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed for Daura, Katsina State, to attend prayers marking the third day since the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who was laid to rest in his hometown on Tuesday.

    Acting on the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Shettima is leading a high-level delegation of government officials and sympathizers to the former President’s residence in Daura for the religious observance.

    Accompanying the Vice President are the Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, and the Governor of Katsina State, Dikko Umar Radda. 

    Several ministers and dignitaries are also part of the entourage heading to Daura.

    The third-day prayer session is scheduled to hold on Thursday at the late President Buhari’s family compound and is expected to draw a large gathering of mourners, political associates, and members of the public.

    A brief alert on the schedule was made available on Wednesday by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), Stanley Nkwocha. 

    The visit underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to honouring his predecessor and showing continued support to the bereaved family.

    “A day after the burial of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, as directed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, Vice President Kashim Shettima, in company with the Governors of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, and Katsina State, Dikko Umar Radda, is leading some ministers and mourners to Daura for prayers at the late former President’s residence in Daura, Katsina State.

    “The third-day prayer is expected to take place tomorrow with the Vice President leading other mourners at the prayers”, Nkwocha said.

    Former President Buhari died on Sunday, July 13, in London after a prolonged illness. 

    His body was flown back to Nigeria on Tuesday and was interred same day in Daura following a series of funeral rites attended by President Tinubu, African leaders, and other dignitaries.

    The third-day prayer is a solemn tradition in Islamic funeral rites, held to pray for the repose of the soul of the departed.

    A cross-section of residents who used to pray with the late former President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura have extolled his high moral behaviours.

    They testified that Buhari was a man who never missed prayers in congregation whenever he was in Daura.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that praying in congregation at the mosque is considered a high spiritual example expected of devoted Muslims of all ages.

    In an interview with NAN on Monday in Daura, Katsina State, they said Buhari was steadfast in his faith.

    They said he celebrated both Eid-el-Fitr and Eid-el-Kabir consistently with the people of his immediate community.

    One of the residents, Malam Ashiru Yusuf, said that Buhari was trustworthy, honest, and showed concern for people.

    “Most of the time, we visited him at home for issues like politics, whenever it was time for prayers, the meeting must be stopped until after the prayer.

    “People are eyewitnesses that whenever he was in Daura, he also observed Friday prayer in congregation every week throughout his stay in the town.”

    On his part, the ward head of Dumurkul, Buhari’s birthplace, Malam Nazir Ahmad, who is also the Sarkin-Fulani of Dumurkul, said the late President lived with their fathers in peace and respect in spite of his social standing.

    “He visits our fathers here in Dumurkul, and they also visit him in his home. Whenever he arrived in Daura, they would go and welcome him, and they also bid him farewell after his stay.

    “We had been together for the past 12 years, since the death of our father. Whatever he used to give to our father, he has extended it to us; he is now dead. May Allah have mercy on his soul.

    “He observed Juma’at prayer every week here, he was generous, no human being is one hundred per cent complete, may Allah forgive him and receive his soul with mercy,” he prayed.

    The people of Daura have expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Nigerian President Alhaji Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away at the ripe age of 82 in London.

    Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the residents described his death as a great loss not only to the people of Daura but to the entire nation.

    “We are heartbroken. Baba Buhari was not only a leader but a symbol of integrity and humility.

    “He represented Daura on the global stage with dignity,” said Alhaji Mustapha Sani, Chairman, Hamdala Transportation said.

    The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) report that many people gathered in public squares and Mosques to offer special prayers for the repose of the departed noble, pious, patriotic and humble soul ofa son of the soil.

    Politicians, youths leaders, elders, and women in Daura have paid tributes, highlighting his legacy of public service, discipline, and love for the country.

    In a condolence message, the community extended heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family, particularly Hajiya Aisha Buhari and the children.

    They prayed that Almighty Allah grant him eternal rest and give his family the strength to bear the loss.

    “Daura will never forget him. He was our pride,” Malam Salihu Usman added.

    NAN reports the funeral prayers and other arrangements are being anticipated as the community prepares to receive his body for final rites.

  • Katsina Commissioner of Police relocates to Daura

    The Commissioner of Police in charge of Katsina State Command, CP Sanusi Buba has relocated to Daura.

    The relocation is aimed at rescuing the District head of Daura, Alhaji Musa Umar, who was recently kidnapped.

    The Police said the CP’s relocation would aid in the coordination and investigatiion of security operations.

    The Police, in a statement in Abuja on Sunday by the Force Spokesman, DCP Frank Mba said, efforts were on to subdue criminal gangs across the country.

    According to him: “Currently, there are massive strategic security operations, both covert and overt missions, taking place at different parts of the country, including Katsina aimed at subduing the criminal gangs and restoring sanity to the land.

    “However, because of the covert and sensitive nature of these operations, I will not discuss them for now but Nigerians should be assured that the entire Law Enforcement and Intelligence community in Nigeria will not rest until we win the battle against crimes and criminality in Nigeria.”

  • Buhari’s in-law kidnapped in Daura

    The District head of Daura in Katsina State, Musa Umar, has been kidnapped by gunmen.

    Umar, a former Customs officer, is married to the daughter of President Muhammadu Buhari’s sister.

    He is also reported to be the father of Fatima Musa, wife of Mohammed Abubakar, Buhari’s aide de camp  (ADC).

    Police officers are on the trail of the criminals.

    Witnesses told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the kidnappers stormed his home at 7p.m. and sporadically shot into the air, scaring bystanders, who scampered for safety.

    Umar had just returned from the mosque where he took part in the evening prayer when the incident happened.

    He was sitting in front of his house with some people when the gun-totting men came.

    A witness told NAN that the kidnappers came in a Peugeot 406 saloon car.

    After the gunmen left, the Daura Council Chairman Malam Abba Mato and hundreds of sympathisers came to Umar’s residence, to discuss the incident.

  • Buhari returns to Abuja

    President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday returned to Abuja after he participated in the Saturday’s Gubernatorial and State House of Assembly election in his hometown, Daura, Katsina State.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the presidential aircraft conveying the president, his wife Aisha Buhari and some of his aides landed the at presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at about 12.30p.m.

    The president was received at the airport by his Chief of Staff, Malam Abba Kyari, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam Muhammed Bello and other presidential aides as well as government officials.

    While in Daura, the president exercised his civic responsibility on March 9 at the polling unit 003, Kofar Baru III (A and B) Daura, Katsina State, where he voted for a governorship candidate and member of the state house of assembly that would represent his constituency, Daura.

    At the end of the exercise on Saturday, President Buhari successfully delivered thepolling unit to the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the state, Aminu Masari, with 370 votes.

    On March 10, President Buhari received representatives of community and development associations from Daura Emirate at his private residence in Daura, who came to congratulate him on his re-election.

    The president’s old schoolmates and Gov. Aminu Masari of Katsina State were also among those that visited the president at his residence in Daura to congratulate him on his re-election for a second term.

    Masari, who was accompanied by prominent citizens of the state including some members of his cabinet, also formally informed President Buhari of his victory at the March 9 governorship election in the state.

  • Buhari: I expect Atiku to go to court

    President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday said that he expected the main opposition People’s Democratic Party, PDP, and its presidential candidate at the February 23 election, Atiku Abubakar to go to court.

    The opposition has been challenging the result of the election declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which declared Buhari as the winner of the presidential election.

    Going to court, Buhari said was part of the democratic process.

    Buhari spoke with journalists after casting his vote for the governorship and state assembly elections at the Kofar Baru 003 polling unit, Daura, Katsina State.

    Asked to react to the decision by the PDP and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to challenge the outcome of the February 23 presidential election at the election tribunal, he simply said, “I expect that to happen.”

    According to him, security agencies especially the Police were taking care of the flashpoints in the country to make sure that there is hitch-free election in the country.

    On what would be his advice on the flashpoints and reported cases of violence across the country, this week, President Buhari said, “I will leave it to the law enforcement agencies especially the police because they have been meeting virtually on a 48-hour basis to make sure that they have identified the flashpoints, as you mentioned, wherever they are and make arrangements to counter it.”

  • Buhari arrives in Daura 

    President Muhammadu Buhari arrived his home town of Daura yesterday ahead of tomorrow’s governorship and House of Assembly elections.

    Buhari landed at the Daura Helipad in a Presidential Chopper marked NAF-541 at 6:50 p.m. in company with his aides and close family members.

    The President was received by the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Farouk Umar, his kinsmen, and hundreds of well-wishers.

    The President’s wife, Hajiya Aisha Buhari, is to host a thanksgiving dinner for women and youth organisations in Daura.

    President Muhammadu Buhari has departed his hometown of Daura to Katsina en route Abuja after participating in the presidential and National Assembly elections held on February 23, 2018.

    The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Buhari was seen off at the helipad in Daura by the Emir of Daura Alhaji Farouk Umar ,well-wishers and relations.

    Buhari left Daura at 10:am on Monday in a presidential helicopter marked NA-541.

    NAN also reports that the president was expected back in Daura by next week to enable him to participate in the Governorship and State Assembly elections scheduled for March 9.
