Beckham signs sports partnership deal with Bank of America

Former England soccer captain David Beckham signed a multi-year partnership with Bank of America (BAC.N), opens new tab to promote global sports programs ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, he and the bank said about the deal, which was first reported by Reuters.

The British champion, who co-owns Major League Soccer team Inter Miami, boosted soccer’s popularity in the U.S. during his playing career and later as an owner by bringing Argentine great Lionel Messi to Miami in 2023. Beckham expects the World Cup to stoke more soccer interest in the U.S., where viewership has lagged other sports.

“It is the biggest sporting competition in the world,” Beckham told Reuters. “I’ve seen a huge uplift in the support for the game … we know that there’s a huge market there, it’s kind of a sleeping giant.”

The World Cup begins in June and is sponsored by BofA. The deals with FIFA and Beckham fit with the second-largest U.S. bank’s investment in global sports events and programs as a way to burnish its brand, market services and engage with local communities, said David Tyrie, its president of global marketing and digital.

“It’ll be an access point for clients and prospects across the board, but what this really does for us is it opens Bank of America’s branding to go far beyond traditional financial categories, and hopefully create emotional connections that are going to drive loyalty.”

The parties did not disclose financial details about the partnership.

Beckham cited the rising number of MLS soccer teams, stadiums and training academies, combined with the rising number of Premier League fans, as evidence that the sport was gaining ground in the U.S.

“The majority of owners within the MLS see that opportunity (from the World Cup) … to then push on to the next level and to achieve even more, and make this game more popular in their country,” said Beckham, who was knighted by King Charles this month.

  • Beckham could face ban over phone use while driving

David Beckham could face a driving ban after admitting using his phone while driving in London.

The former England captain will appear at Bromley Magistrates’ Court next month to learn what punishment he faces after being caught on his mobile in a £100,000 Bentley in central London last November.

The father-of-four pleaded guilty to the charge by post and was set to be dealt with at Lavender Hill Magistrates’ Court this morning.

MailOnline understands the hearing was moved after Beckham, who is currently in the US, confirmed he would attend his sentencing to accept responsibility for the incident.

His case was previously set to be resolved via a single justice procedure, a hearing behind closed doors where one magistrate can choose to impose points or a fine as punishment.

Court officials said it was now listed as a ‘disqualification hearing’, but they admitted they did not have his driving record yet and were unaware how many points were on his licence.

Driving while using a mobile phone can carry a disqualification penalty as well as a maximum fine of £1,000. The offence usually results in six points on a licence.

A court official said Wednesday: ‘Although it is listed as “to attend for disqualification” we don’t know if he has enough points for disqualification.’

She added the court would only have an up-to-date version of his driving record a few days before the sentencing

A single justice procedure is used to deal with minor offences without the need for a defendant to go to court.

Defendants are given notices of the charges they face and asked for their plea, which can be made by post.

Defendants have 21 days to respond to notices and if they do not, a magistrate can make a decision without their involvement.

  • Beckham to Zidane: Please Beat Liverpool very well!

David Beckham may have left Manchester United in 2003 but it appears his hatred for bitter rivals Liverpool still runs deep.

The former England captain views Saturday’s Champions league final in Kiev as an opportunity to teach Liverpool lesson and has begged ex-Real Madrid team-mate Zinedine Zidane to beat the Reds for good.

Beckham, who left Old Trafford for Los Blancos in a deal worth £25 million, sat down for an interview with Zidane ahead of the showpiece final in Kiev implored him to lift the trophy at Liverpool’s expense.

‘To have been successful as a player and now to be successful as the boss, the big boss, is incredible,’ Beckham said to Zidane.

‘I just want to wish Zizou, the boss, the president, the club good luck in the Champions League final.

    ‘And please beat Liverpool, please!’

Real Madrid are seeking to win a third consecutive Champions League title in Kiev and insisted his team have worked tirelessly to get there.

Zidane added: ‘We suffered and worked a lot to make it to the final.

‘There has been a lot of sacrifices, a lot of work, a lot of personal investment from everyone.

‘Once I decided to become a coach I thought nothing is impossible. Being a coach of Real Madrid I knew we could achieve great things.’

Beckham played for Real Madrid between 2003 and 2007 making 116 appearances and scoring 16 goals for the side. The former

Manchester United midfielder who claimed numerous team and individual award in the course of his playing career, was voted UEFA Club Footballer of the Year: 1998–99, UEFA Club Midfielder of the Year: 1998–99 and UEFA Team of the Year: 2001, 2003 among others.

He captained England 59 times, the fourth highest after Bobby Moore and Billy Wright both with 90, and Bryan Robson with 65.

All eyes will be on Liverpool’s Mohammed Salah as the Reds throw in every arsenal in their armory all aimed at stopping Madrid from a back-back-back cruise control on the title.  The Egypt international finished the season in a flourish scoring 32 goals for the Liverpool.

Giggs celebrates divorce with night out

His 10-year marriage to Stacey Cook was finally settled on Thursday, after months of going back and forth in court.

And Ryan Giggs marked the occasion with a reunion meal with David Beckham and a number of his Class of 92 Manchester United teammates later that evening.

In an image uploaded to Instagram, the legendary sportsmen are seen beaming as they sit with the likes of Nicky Butt, Gary Neville and his brother Phil, who snapped a selfie of the gang hanging out together at his sibling’s Manchester hot-spot Mahiki.

Sitting next to David at a long table draped in white linen, Ryan cut a stylish figure in a crisp white shirt under a black blazer as he revelled with a group that included business magnate Peter Lim.

And it seems Gary might have had one too many at the mini reunion as Phil shared an update on Instagram the morning after the night before.

Phil pulled no punches in revealing Gary’s fragile state, posting a picture of the former right back with his eyes closed in the back of a taxi.

He mercilessly added the caption: ‘Don’t go out with the big boys if you can’t handle it, just off for a run, me.’

Hours earlier the former Valencia boss looked to be having the time of his life, grinning broadly during an Instagram story.

Butt stuck out his tongue to the camera whilst Giggs frowned with his old team-mates clowning around behind.

The class of 92 were a key member short, with Paul Scholes conspicuous by his absence.

The players have a long association with Lim, with Butt, the Neville brothers, Scholes and Giggs forging a business partnership with the Singapore billionaire.

Giggs was out after settling his £40m High Court divorce battle with estranged wife Stacey this week, the couple who separated last April, calling an end to their seven-year marriage but remaining ‘firm friends’.

Beckham’s son Romeo sticking  to daddy’s  style

He recently spent some quality time with his grandmother at day five of the NITTO ATP World Tour.

And Romeo Beckham, 15, continued to showcase his interest in tennis as he was pictured with his

father, David, 42, at the finals in London’s O2 Arena on Sunday.

The pair struck a similar appearance in chic attire as they both rocked up to the singles final between Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria and David Goffin of Belgium during day eight of the star-studded sporting event.

Donning a wool felt trilby hat, the second eldest child of David paired his headgear with a simple baby pink tee, which was contrasted with a trendy red strapped watch.

Corresponding well with his son, the football legend wore a fern-coloured ribbed beanie, as he still managed to flaunt his loosely tousled golden mane.

David wore a fitted pocket jumper, which was embellished with a printed rose.

The pair not only bore resemblance with their facial features but also cut a similar figure as they drank water simultaneously.

This appearance came shortly after Romeo watched day five of the tennis games with his grandmother Sandra West on Thursday.

Romeo looked to be in high spirits in a monochrome top, while Sandra also cut a casual figure herself.   So fascinated by the match unfolding in front of him, that he whipped out his phone to capture it on his phone.

It was recently revealed that David unwittingly became the face of a Chinese advert for Cock Grease Pomade alongside Hollywood star Bradley Cooper, 42, and 50 Shades of Grey actor Jamie Dornan, 35.

The sports star’s image is being used to promote the brand of hair gel – boring the slogan ‘Xxtra hard’ – which is manufactured in Japan.
